Heave It!

October 11th, 2018

Aggressive.

Todd Monken and Dirk Koetter aren’t screwing around this year.

The offensive coordinator and head coach of the Bucs, respectively, are letting it rip when it comes to throwing the ball, which is part of the reason why the Bucs lead the NFL in passing yards at 363.2 yards a game.

In fact, no team throws fewer short passes than the Bucs. Per BSPN NFL Matchup, the Bucs are rock bottom in the NFL in short passes (five-yards or less).

Now Joe isn’t sure if this is because Koetter and or Monken don’t trust their running backs to get yards on short passes or the Bucs stink at YAC (the Bucs have the lowest YAC total on short passes in the league as well).

The way Joe sees it, if a team is leading the league in passing, why screw that up by throwing more short passes just for the sake of throwing short passes? Don’t fix something that is not broken.

Don’t care, without a running game the defense will spend more time on the field and we all know what that means.

Other teams are playing 8 in a box because of our lack of a run game. Easier to throw downfield like that. Also we don’t throw a whole lot of screen passes which could be to what Joe said about Dirk not trusting our backs in the pass game.

On third down throw the short pass to move the chains instead of longer passes that sometimes fall incomplete. Don’t give the ball to the other teams offense ’cause Smitty’s defense will let them cruise for a score!

  4. Alanbucsfan Says:

Bucs averaged 6 yds per pass and only 5 yds per play vs Bears.
Humphries and Brate had 9 combined catches for 65 yds. Not much explosion there… throw it to the WR’s!!

What this tells me I already know and that is we don’t throw nearly enough screens to our backs. That both slows down the pass rush and gets the ball out of the QBs hands towards a play setup to get good yards. Why do you think the Saints are that high on that list? They throw screens to keep teams off balance we just keep dropping back and getting our QB hit time and time again. Again poor coaching rears it’s ugly head, it’s called being predictable. Why can’t we just have coaches who aren’t blind to their own flaws?

I really believe this team has talent but with each week I see more and more just how bad this coaching staff is. With the Saints you have no idea what is coming. One play its a draw to Ingram the next it is a deep crossing route to Thomas the next it’s a screen to a tight end the next it’s a swing pass to Karma the next it’s a deep shot to Ginn the next it’s a direct snap to that QB/RB they have the next snap it’s a screen to Karma then next snap boom TD to Thomas on a high/low play with Thomas and Karma. I hate them but man it’s beautiful to watch. While do the same crap over and over. Please tell me how many RB screens we have run this year so far. I literally can’t think of one other than the one Jones dropped.

We have to pass we don’t have a running game. Barber can only do so much, Jones can’t contribute anything

They’re gonna have to change it up now they have an inaccurate down field Qb tossing the rock! Smh
