Can’t #BlameJameis

October 5th, 2018

Numbers back him up.

So, we can now throw in the trash a common complaint the haters like to use.

Listening to those who want to run America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston out of town, you would think the guy just heaves jump balls for receivers, throwing them off their gait and preventing them from advancing the football. And this was one reason why backup Ryan Fitzpatrick should have remained the starter, because he throws (the commenters type) a pretty pass, an accurate ball that allows receivers to catch and race down the field.

Joe knows you have read those very same comments on this site. You know you have.

Well, NFL Films advises people convinced of this that they better drum up another fairy tale. So far this season, per NFL Films by way of BSPN NFL Matchup, the Bucs are one of the worst teams for YAC in the NFL (see below).

And you cannot #BlameJameis because he has only played two quarters of football. Only five teams have a worse YAC per catch than the Bucs, who average 4.7 yards.

see if he can hit djax in stride…he went through a whole season without that last year…if he’s that much better than fitz, the scoreboard should be lit up….no more excuses

  2. Alanbucsfan Says:

The Bears did not let DJax, Evans or Godwin beat them.
Bucs were throwing to Humphries and Brate all game-
Bucs better have an answer for this, because Falcons will be looking at Bears tape.

  3. El_Buc941 Says:

Joe I don’t get it…the Steelers want a 2nd round pick and a “good player” in exchange for Leveon Bell. I say give them the 2nd rounder and Brent Grimes. They obviously need defensive players like Grimes seeing how bad their defense is. It’s a win win and.it would boost the offense tremendously.

  4. RustyRhinos Says:

Hey here is a fun game let us look again at these numbersafter the next 2 games that Mr. Winston plays in and see if we go up or we go down. Who will be the cause of that?
    GO BUCS!

  5. adam from ny Says:

koetter definitely pulled fitzie way too early to make jameis the starter…i have heard whispers through sources that there were locker room issues with the bulk of the players – especially on the defensive side – as they thought jameis should get his job back – and essentially they stopped playing on the field in chicago to prove a point…thus jameis was reinstated to action immediately in the second half…could this be true or is everything in the lockerroom hunkydory ???

  6. SteveK Says:

    Jameis 2017: TD:Turnover Ratio

    19:18/ 1.5 TDs: 1.4 Turnovers per game.

    Jameis 2018:
1 TD: 2 INT *one half of football/garbage time*

We need Jameis to score more TDs and have less giveaways.

  7. Resurrection of Fitz Says:

I can careless about YAC WHEN WE ARE SCORING TDs ON DEEP BALLS!!!

We seen the results. I am rooting for Jameis. I’m hoping his pre-season play continues. But taking DJax deep ball TDs out of the equation for our present team will be a devastating experience for Bucs fans. Specially, if our defense does not improve and keeps allowing 35+ ppg, 28 points from Jameis and company will only keep you excited with more to write.

The SNOWBALL is building in Sunny Tampa, Florida!

  8. diggler Says:

This site was fire while Jameis was suspended now it back to this garbage. Kind of like the bucs season. I’ll be back when JW isn’t the starter. Peace.

  9. Resurrection of Fitz Says:

    YEP……the media needs garbage to survive…..its a shame…Peace

  12. DislocatedBucsFan Says:

WOmbat, correct me if I am wrong, but wasn’t that a quote of one of the Joe’s? That’s a Raheem Morris quote. –Joe Seems that stats are only provided when it supports his opinion on the matter while simultaneously disregarding adjacent stats that support alternative views.

  13. Anonymous Says:

If Fitz can throw the deep ball so much better than jameis why didn’t he do it in the three games he started last year?

  14. DBS Says:

That’s just the way they are. One day he’s average (If Fitz is playing) Next it’s pull every stat (but they don’t belive in stats) to prove he is the best in the league.

  15. BuccYa Says:

Listen I want Jameis to be great for us I really do but how much longer can we wait Joe? As far as I’ve seen going back to last year Fitz has played the position better in this offense. IMO of course.

  16. Wausa Says:

    Joe:

The crazies on here will not be satisfied until the Bucs move on from the best QB in franchise history and go back to a QB like the “throwin’ Samoan” (Jack Thompson).

  17. Jim Says:

Winston has had three years to prove he’s worth $100 Million and he hasn’t done it. OK, now he gets another year,..let’s see. Meanwhile his back up sets multiple all time records and his jersey goes to Canton…

  18. Ed Says:

The only stats that really should matter and for the next 12 games with Jameis as quarterback:

    W/L record
    Points per game
    Time Of Possession
    Offensive Plays
    Red Zone TD %
    Completion %
    Interception/Fumbles

If Jameis Winston is better than top 15 QB’s at end of season, he’s a keeper, if he’s in the 20-32 range, he has to accept a contract where he belongs, you cannot pay him what those top 10 QB’s produce.

This is THE new season for him, lets see what he does on the field. No excuses for lack of running game, other good QBs make up for that by getting the ball to their running backs, we see many RB’s getting more yardage via short passes than rushing attempts so that excuse is bogus.

Passing yards are not the important when you move the ball and turn it over or fail to score TDs in red zone attempts then those yardage numbers don’t help your team win when the other stats are lower than average.

  19. DB55 Says:

So I’m watching the game last night (again) cuz I’m a total loser with nothing better to do than prove people wrong, YEY me!

Fitz throws a bomb to Djax along the left sideline. The pass was short and Djax had to make a shoestring catch while getting hit by the safety. The pass was completed for 43 yards. After the play my only thought was -do you think Djax would have made that catch for Winston? Low inaccurate short pass while getting hit by the safety, I say no.

Case in point, Djax runs a 10 yard out for Winston, he is slow to the spot, then simply puts a hand out and the pass falls incomplete.

Djax never ever ever ever makes a play for Winston’s balls. It’s like he doesn’t like his balls, it’s like he prefers to play with Fitzpatrick’s balls instead of Winston’s. If Djax doesn’t start playing with Winston’s balls the way he plays Fitz then he’s going to have a huge problem.

I hate when people play with balls lazily. They should give it all they got, grab’em with both hands and firmly secure the balls and then score!

  20. LakeLand Says:

This Bucs offense was great for one game (New Orleans)
The other 3 games, they have been average at best
    Below average versus the Bears

  21. DB55 Says:

    Jim

Winston’s jersey and cleats have been hanging in Canton for years and it didn’t take him 13 years to make it happen but wtfdik

  22. Joe Says:

You are not the only one who has noticed this. Wouldn’t say “ever” but DJax (last year) sure never made much of an effort to adjust to too many passes last year.

Last week the pass people screamed at claiming Jameis missed DJax, how do you know? Jameis threw that pass to a spot and released it well before DJax got out of his break. How do we know the route was screwed up? It takes two to tango.

Anyone ever wonder why Jameis has no issue throwing to Godwin, to Humphries, to Brate, to O.J. or to Evans but does with DJax? Hhhmmm?

  23. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Joe Blahak Says
“see if he can hit djax in stride…he went through a whole season without that last year…”

Actually not true. I think he hit him at least once, maybe twice.

But the last thing I want to see is Jameis forcing the ball to DJax all of the time, like last year. As a result, there were more drops and the production of the other WRs went down.

DJax liked Fitz because they were homies. Fitz went to him by default constantly, and DJax knows Jameis probably won’t go to him as much.

I could care less about DJax getting the ball. I care about team production, not opportunities of a single player when all is said and done.

  24. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    oe Says:
“You are not the only one who has noticed this. Wouldn’t say “ever” but DJax (last year) sure never made much of an effort to adjust to too many passes last year.”

I was one of those people. It was as though DJax felt the ball was thrown too hard for him or he was afraid of getting hit.

I give DJax credit this year though…he at least took some hits and produced.

“Anyone ever wonder why Jameis has no issue throwing to Godwin, to Humphries, to Brate, to O.J. or to Evans but does with DJax? Hhhmmm?”

    Thank you!!!!!!

I have been making this point since last year! It is so nice to know someone else see’s it too!

  25. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    @DB55

I see what you did there, lol.

Even got Joe to repeat it, lol.

  26. DB55 Says:

    Absolutely Joe

Last yr I calculated that Djax had the worst completion percentage with Winston. While almost everyone was hovering around 70-80 percent Djax only caught around 40-50% of the passes thrown to him by Winston. I’ll see if I can find the post. If I recall correctly Hump and Brate were at the top of the list.

Oh and don’t look now but Winston has quietly helped turn Brate into one of the best TEs in the league but you won’t hear that on tv.

  27. T REX Says:

    Now…because Winston can’t throw the deep…it is DJAX’s fault?

    BUWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

The winston homers are a joke. Please sthu.

  28. Frank Says:

Joe. I hate to be the one to break it to you but, Winston is average. I want football players, not motivational speakers!

Hard to argue with your logic @Ed.
The only thing I will add is wins and losses will be massively impacted by a defense on pace to be the worst in NFL history.

  34. tickrdr Says:

    Question:
If the pass is completed to a player standing in the end zone, does that count as ZERO YAC?

    tickrdr

  35. Season Is Over Says:

How many Buccaneer receivers did you see writhing in pain on the ground last week after getting hit trying to catch an errant Winston pass? How many times did you see Fitz do that to his receivers?

  36. 813bucboi Says:

no doubt everyone seen djax give up on Winston….even the commentators…..

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!….#PRESSURESONTHECOACHES!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!

  37. LakeLand Says:

If Jameis Winston is struggling, and the Bucs are losing
Will Koetter go back to Fitz?

  38. Wausa Says:

If Wentz is struggling, and the Eagles are loosing will Pederson go back to Foles?

    I’m asking for a friend.

  39. LakeLand Says:

I believe the Bucs has to go 8-4 in their remaining games to reach the playoffs
I think 10-6 will get them into the playoffs
They don’t have much room for errors
I understand that Mike Smith is their scapegoat
But Koetter has to make wise decisions, going forward
Especially when it comes to dealing with the QB situation

  40. DB55 Says:

    Season is over

How many times did you see Fitz do that to his receivers?
    ————-
Only with O.J. Howard who is now out for 4 weeks after messing up his knee trying to catch 2 overthrown passes by Fitz.

Lol, smh, it’s almost like you guys watch the game on the radio or something.

  41. Oneilbucs Says:

Man it’s time to stop trying to be like all the other teams. We need to get back to buc ball run the ball more throw 25 to 35 times at most and try to play some defense . Quarterback is just 1 position . The national media have fooled a lot of people on this site and people that don’t know football.Back in the days it was about team not quarterback. So we need to get back to team ball not quarterback . I just think Winston gives us the better chance to win. But it’s time to run the ball run the ball ……… We need 25 to 30 carries a game to win go bucs…………

  42. LakeLand Says:

    Oneilbucs,

I have been preaching this for years
They need a balance offense, mix it up
A one dimensional offense will get you yards, but not wins
A balance offense also helps your defense

  43. LakeLand Says:

That’s why I’m a fan of the Carolina Panthers
Not because of the team, but because of their style of play
That old school, smashmouth football, run the ball, play defense
They averages 166 yards rushing per game
The Bucs averages 69.5 yards rushing per game

  44. DBS Says:

@Lakeland. The answer is most unlikely. After Smith. This fool is will go all the way down with the ship .

  45. DBS Says:

    Willing to

  46. NPRSageBoy Says:

Can’t blame Jameis. While he was absent due to his off field antics, all Fitz did was put up Hall of Fame numbers and a 2-1 record. Jameis, at best, would have been 1-2.
We should thank Jameis for his offenses, not the Bucs offense.
20M for an average QB is also offensive.

  47. Greg Says:

Again Joe is trying to shine a turd. Who is blaming Jameis for the defense? However when the sex offender leads the league every year in turnovers your giving the other teams more opportunities that doesnt help.

While were at it I also dont blame Jameis for the running game, missed field goals or the GM making bad decisions, but that doesnt explain why we are NOT starting the QB that gives us the best chance to win.

  48. Greg Says:

Seriously folks, Joe is a major Winston and Florida St fan. The only argument he is already prepping you for is the yards per catch of the opposing teams. That’s the argument? We will lose a lot of games this year that Fitz may have won and Joe is already prepping everyone for the “Its not Jameis its the defense” argument.

  49. Cgmaster Says:

Best chance to win Greg? You complain about turnovers while fitz had 5 in a game and a half. But I guess thats ok with you as it’s not Jameis. Lazy.

  50. Bucsfanman Says:

So, we’re basing the Winston to DJax connection on one play so far? That ‘out’ play was so overthrown there was no way DJax gets to the ball.
Now, if you’re making the argument for last year I cannot disagree.
Regardless, YAC, RAC, and whatever other acronyms you want to roll out there don’t mean squat if you can’t win games. Jameis has an opportunity to put all of this speculation to rest. I hope the bye week finds him and DJax getting their timing down. We need them to come out swinging, especially with this defense!

  51. Cgmaster Says:

@NPR wrong! Fitz was 2-2 as a starter ,not 2-1.

  52. Buc1987 Says:

    Greg.

    Sigh.

Would you like some cheese to go with all that…..

    Whine.

  53. Buc1987 Says:

The next 12 games belong to Jameis.

    Thee end Greg.

Cheer really loud for him Greg.

  54. Cgmaster27 Says:

@NPR. Wrong! Fitz is 2-2 as a starter, or are you just not counting the bears game? At leaste keep the facts straight.

  55. denjoe Says:

I don’t care about either QB, they are both decent. Our defense is beyond pathetic the GM and owners have no clue and our coaches are incompetent. We do not have solid fundamentals. Ryan Griffen could probably easily be a starter in today’s cream puff NFL, now lets concentrate on the real problems.

  56. small axe Says:

    nice try joe

  57. Posey99 Says:

YAC has more to do with the guy catching the ball then the guy throwing the ball. Also, Yards Per Attempt is a much more important stat… I thought Joe wasn’t a stat guy…

  58. HomerSimpsonRocks Says:

To be fair, the first 5 halves of the season (Fitz) should be comparedto the next 5 (Winston).

  59. JimmyT Says:

    Hey Joe Blahak
Uh Jameis was hurt in week 2 last year,he HAD A BUM SHOULDER! When he returned the last 5 weeks AND HEALTHY he was one of the most ACCURATE PASSERS IN THE LEAGUE. He hit Chris Godwin IN STRIDE TO BEST THE SAINTS and in the pre season THIS YEAR, HEALTHY he hit DJAX IN STRIDE ON A 55 yard pass. U guys can’t be serious. I don’t give a crap about DJAX OK, he is ONE PLAYER. We need to RUN THE BALL, Control the ball and keep this CRAP DEFENSE OFF THE FIELD. I’m glad we caught 2 teams off guard & won 2 games but this team didn’t face many 3rd downs until the PITT game & we got hammered in the first half. I remember in Jameis 2nd year, 9-7, in the road we beat KC 19-17 & Jameis was 12-14 on 3rd down conversions. This team can’t win shootouts, our D SUCKS. U WILL see a different Offense moving forward, short passing game, move the chains & control the click. Must score TDS in red zone. That’s how u mask a PATHETIC DEFENSE so ENOUGH OF BLAMING JAMEIS & enough of worrying about hitting DJAX on bombs.GEEZ U GUYS R NUTS!!

  60. SteveK Says:

Sounds like excuses to me, Jimbo!

I hope Jameis balls out and has a strong TD:Turnover ratio. That would be his best contribution towards winning football games.

  61. Eddie Wigfall III Says:

This is a team sports all eleven players, Quote from John Mckay !!!!! Block. Pass. Catch and most important Run the ball. I can see a lot of missed blocks on the line, we need some guys up front that can whip some behind on the other side of the ball!!!!
