Steelers Can Still Ring The Bell

September 23rd, 2018

Do not ignore.

Joe has no issue with a player trying to get his cash. And despite malcontent running back Le’Veon Bell jet-skiing off the coast of South Beach and trying to Pearl Harbor the Steelers, Pittsburgh’s running game is still dangerous.

That’s the word from Bucs coach Dirk Koetter. In studying the tape of the Steelers, Koetter noted backup running back Jameis Conner (“Sarah Connor?”) can do some damage.

“When I looked at the tape, it looked to me like he ran with power,” Koetter said. “He made yards after contact. I was more impressed with him than I thought as a receiver. He didn’t get a lot of chances, but he had natural hands, he’s a good route runner, good in the protection.

“I was impressed with him. I’d never really seen him since college. I didn’t know what to expect and I thought he did a really good job.”

This is a sneaky weapon with the Steelers and just about makes their offense complete (Bell, whenever he did decide to play and decided to put down the bong — allegedly — did make their offense complete).

It’s easy to forget about Conner and get distracted by the best receiver in the game, Antonio Brown, and a very underrated receiver in JuJu Smith-Schuster plus tight end Jesse James.

That’s the trap the Bucs have to avoid tomorrow night.

The good thing is that the bucs are actually stopping the run this year….

last year all teams did was run it down the defenses throat all day long for easy 3 yard gains……..not so much this year

I hope the bucs defense shows up tomorrow

James Conner was pretty high on my list of desired running back prospects of the 2017 draft class, right up there with Kareem Hunt, Tarik Cohen and Jamaal Williams. He was an animal at Pitt and regularly showed off feats of strength akin to Samson. So his recent success doesn’t really surprise me.

However, he will have a poor day against our suffocating Run defense.

put down the bong – “allegedly” – links to article written two years ago

Will be interesting to see who steps up next to McCoy at DT tomorrow. I have a prediction we will see a lot more JPP, Curry, and Gholston playing inside and Noah Spence will get his first start to try and counteract the amount of reps those three take on the outside

Going to be a very physical game this week. The Steelers are angry. I think it was one of the Bucs players who said he would rather they had a winning record.

Good read Bonzai…. I hope you’re wrong but good read altogether.

I’m not on the Bucs strong run defense bandwagon yet. Sure, the stats show that opponents aren’t running on us. But I don’t think it’s because they’re not able to, but rather they’re able to pass so well against us. We’ve been able to get big leads for a change (YEAH!), and for the other teams to stay in the game, they have to pass more. We won’t really be able to see how our run D is playing until we play a team that executes a more balanced offense.

I live in Steeler Country. Conner is not some sort of 2nd class back to Leveon Bell. As a matter of fact, after letting Conner have the #1 role, no one even cares about Bell. Conner is a legit #1.

Conner is stronger and much more of a team player. Steeler fans love him and I have watched many of his games at both Pitt and for the Steelers. Conner can do it all.

I read that two Steelers offensive line starters are not playing.

Just reported that the Steelers are listening to trade offers for Bell.

  12. Mike Johnson Says:

The key will be Big Ben. If our Defense can just rattle him a little. He is a very hard out. And the guys hard to bring down. Put pressure on Big Ben and we win.

Pittsburgh has put Bell on the trading block according to ESPN.

    Make the call Licht.

The best defense is an offense that puts up 40 points a game, and I strongly believe the Steelers will take basically anything. So give them say Ronald Jones or to offset some salary this year give them Brate (who has $7m a year, but only this year is guaranteed).

    Make the call Licht.

  14. Rod Munch Says:

Mike Johnson – The Steelers can run the ball at ease versus the Bucs and it’s how you keep the ball out of the hands of Fitz. Plus Big Ben has been awful on the road the last few years. I think it’s very likely the Steelers decide to just run the ball down the Bucs throat, wear out the defense, then even if Fitz stays on fire and gets those big plays, the defense is right back out and is totally worn out by half way through the 3rd quarter.
