Michael Bennett Talks Bucs Days

September 14th, 2018

A crime he was run off.

It takes a significant amount of discipline for Joe not to punch a wall when thinking how the Bucs let go of a guy who is a borderline Hall of Fame player at the most important position on the defense, especially when the Bucs before and after this guy left have been the sh!t standard of the NFL at that same position.

That guy would be defensive end and Michael Bennett.

Well, Bennett returns Sunday to Tampa Bay as a member of the Eagles. And earlier this week he appeared on something called “Pardon My Take” podcast and spoke a little bit about his Bucs days.

* On Greg Schiano:

It doesn’t appear Bennett liked Schiano as a coach but does like him as a person.

“Schiano, ugh!” Bennett said. “He was a pretty good guy, but he was Schiano, man.”

Bennett did stick up for Schiano when the hosts brought up the breaking-up-the-kneel-down play at Giants Stadium. Bennett didn’t think that was dirty at all compared to what offensive linemen do. In fact, Bennett all but called the Giants offensive line of the time of incident babies.

“I thought [Schiano] had a good point, you keep fighting to the end,” Bennett said. “If a player quits chasing a guy, fans get mad. But if a player tries to get the ball back they still get mad. It’s like, ‘What do you want?’ It is like when you are married you never know what your wife wants. ‘Oh, I thought you wanted cake?’ But it’s not the right cake.”

Bennett then mocked the Giants front line for their over-the-top reaction on the field.

The Giants offensive linemen were “super mad,” Bennett said. “‘I can’t believe you are doing this! I can’t believe you are diving at my knees’ after I just tried to cut block you three minutes ago.”

* On Raheem Morris:

“He was a really good coach.”

* On Josh Freeman:

“I was just talking about this the other night with someone,” Bennett said. “He had an arm. He never put it together.”

Looking back at Bennett being shoved out the door for no good reason, Joe has come to the conclusion the Bucs franchise identity is getting rid of good players. Just to name a few: Bennett, Darrelle Revis, Aqib Talib, Donald Penn, LeGarrette Blount. And the way some people act, the next guy on the list will be Jameis Winston. Insanity!

You can hear the full podcast episode below. Bucs talk begins at the 59:30 mark.

    Who’s Winston?

Shiano gave us a lot of things to be critical of but, I had/have absolutely no problem with that “kneel down” play. If you are down one score (which we were, their side of the field, too) it’s cool; more than one score it’s not cool. Play to the end!

Here’s to Bennett overheating on Sunday!

Talib and Blount were both major head cases! Yes they have talent but why are they always getting traded…including getting dumped by Belicheat.

Really can’t blame two idjits who can’t seem to stick with a single team on us for not being THAT single team that wanted to put up with them.

Bennett, Penn, I do not understand at all…I think Revis was a business decision…how great was he after he left us…especially for the millions required for his services. Sometimes a former great player can continue to play even after knee injuries etc…but sometimes in their final years they are still very good but no longer great…but they can earn “great” salaries when they should be earning “good” salaries.

  4. Cobraboy Says:

    Joe, oh please.

Bennett a “borderline Hall of Fame Player?”

That is an absurd attempt at hyperbole.

  5. Dooshlarue Says:

Bennett certainly knows about the art of shoving.
He has a sheety attitude Joe, that’s why he was shown the door…. that’s the reason.
    And borderline Hall of Famer?
That must be one hell of a borderline.

  6. TOM Says:

Bennett. Hall of Fame. No, but still better than any DL we’ve had since then. Also I’m probably in the minority but I think Schiano wasn’t that bad of a coach & would have been better if he had lasted longer. Better than any HC that came after except for Koetter.

  7. Pryda... sec147 Says:

Can’t wait for Jameis to come back!!!

  8. Joe Says:

He has a sheety attitude Joe, that’s why he was shown the door…. that’s the reason.

Yeah, a “sheety attitude” — says who? Joe was in the locker room back in those days and never saw or heard one thing about “sheety attitude” from Bennett. He also got results. On the field.

Thought the NFL was about results (and wins) not about guys to hang out with after work?

  9. Bucwheat Says:

Bennett is a dbag and I’m glad he isn’t on this team. Remember when he cried wolf about the police incident in Vegas? Saying he was profiled and claimed police brutality? That is the kind of person Michael Bennett is, no room for that here.

  10. Joe Says:

Just heard a pod where two guys said Matthew Stafford could be in the Hall of Fame. Really. Time does that.

For example, it’s the Don Coryell effect. No one who was an adult during Coryell’s days would ever with a straight face suggest he’s a Hall of Fame coach. In his first job, he wasn’t even the second-best coach in his division. In his second job he wasn’t the best coach in his division. His teams were garbage defensively. Had an atrocious postseason record. He was basically the Father Dungy of offensive coaches, without a Super Bowl appearance.

Yet there are people now, who never saw him coach, look at the numbers Coryell’s teams put up, and proclaim him worthy of the Hall of Fame.

Yeah. The Bucs have done so well using the Boy Scout route of “nice guys only” routine.

Bennett: Some think he’s a dirtbag, get rid of him.

Talib: Knucklehead. Get rid of him.

Blount: He mopes. Headcase. Get rid of him.

Donald Penn: talks too much. Get rid of him.

“Why hello Mr. Glazer, here is your trophy for last place finish. Again. And again. And again. But I’m glad you fill your roster with men who I can attend church with on Sunday mornings.”

Sure don’t remember anyone complaining about Warren Sapp being on the roster years ago. He’s not exactly Father Flanagan.

  12. Billy_43 Says:

And the Seahawks just signed a criminal LOL

^^^ Revis wanted out. He asked to go and thanks the Glazers for letting him go.

Revis was the sole reason bucs defense was ranked 15th that year. Even after ACL they rarely threw to his side. He was a big factor that defense success that year.

  14. DBS Says:

I don’t think we need to go back to Talib. I may be getting old but I don’t remember the stories here being that the Glazers need to keep the How many words did you use to discribe him?

  15. Fartman Says:

Winston who?? we got to worry about locking up Fitzmagic long term.

  16. ben Says:

Bennett is no way nationally thought of as bad as the face of the bucs Winston. Some fans make every excuse possible for his actions on and off the field…like ,it can’t be Winston’s fault he lied to the team and on an on. ok, ill stop and let it go now”>))may the bucs continue to play well!!

Meant Bennett this summer in the Chicago airport . Real nice, down to earth guy. Very approachable. I was pissed when we did not resign him.

    Oops

  20. RustyRhinos Says:

Yes Joe Don Coryell deserves to be in the hall of fame. Who was Jim Hart, Dan Fouts coach? Don Coryell. Hart has 34,665 yards to his credit. Fouts has 43,040 yards agai any coach who has helped to put this type of offensive output deserves to be in the hall of fame.

Back to kicking that dead horse again, hey Lee. Get over it.
Between the pod cast and articles, you must be tired of it by now. I know i sure am. Find a new bit.

  22. Joe Says:

    bucluv55:

Joe may never get over it. Really should write an article a day about it so the suits at One Buc never forget as well. It is one of the key reasons why this team is Cleveland South.

Of course, there are other sites that you can visit where they launch a full-throat campaign for the Bucs to hire/fire someone and eight months later thank the team for not making said moves.

But hey, at least you will read a different story! 🙄

  23. horse liver Says:

Revis rehabbed his injury here, was past his prime and not worth the $16 million that Duminik paid him after trading premium picks to get him when the Jets would have cut him anyway. And Duminik is also the guy who let Bennett go.

    Duminik.

  24. Joe Says:

And Duminik is also the guy who let Bennett go.

    Not what Joe heard.

Besides, GMs aren’t very motivated to get rid of good players who they picked up for nothing and oversaw them go from unknown to stud.

Bennett didn’t have any of the issues Blount and Talib displayed which gave the Bucs ammo to unload them. (Still dumb however.)

  25. Rod Munch Says:

When this piece of trash left for Seattle he left his dog at a kennel and then never picked it up, never went back to get it, never called the kennel to let them know what was going on and never answered the phone or emails or texts from the kennel who wanted to know what was going on. You have to be a special piece of garbage to abandon your dog like that. I hope he breaks both his legs, and arms and neck on Sunday.

  26. Mike Ponto Says:

[Read what you want to read. Joe is not going to start lying and making things up to make people happy. That’s what frauds like Colin Cowturd do. Again, there are other sites and radio shows (and assumingly podcasts as well) you can read/listen where opinions change every couple of weeks Viva la difference! — Joe
