Fitz Takes The High Road

Win or lose, day or night, Bucs fans want to know:

Is it America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, or is it Ryan Fitzpatrick who will be the Bucs’ starting quarterback beginning Sunday in the Windy City?

When this question was posed to Fitz after the game in his press conference, Fitz took the classy option.

“You know, I have so much fun playing this game,” Fitz said. “I have fun playing with these guys. I’m here just to do whatever it takes to help the team win and I think that will be my mindset going forward.”

Yeah, that’s a non-answer. But yeah, that’s pretty classy of Fitz. Then again, Fitz is a class guy.

Earlier in the locker room Fitz was asked by Buccaneers Radio Network sideline reporter T.J. Rives what he expects when Jameis returns later today as his suspension is over. Fitz said the intensity of practices will pick up because Jameis is a high-energy kind of guy.

    I ride with Fitz..Period…

It’s Fitz’s job to lose, but regardless Jameis isn’t going anywhere.

JAMEIS WINSTON!!!! Clap Clap Clap Clap Clap Clap!!! JAMEIS WINSTON!!!! Clap Clap Clap Clap Clap Clap!!! #TeamJameis Fitz got us 2 wins so I am thankful for that and he did the best he could. Dude just cannot handle the blitz like Jameis can (Fitz holds the ball too long sometimes) and our offense is one dimensional. Also I get our OLINE had a bad game as did Rodgers did in pass pro. He was terrible tonight. And yeah Grimes was also terrible in coverage. He got exposed as A. Brown made him eat crow. It could’ve been worse if not for a bad pass from Big Ben. We just ain’t ready for the bright lights yet. But I believe the worst is over as we should beat CHI next week……….if Jameis starts.

with 3 minutes to go in the game and the bucs got the ball back…they proceeded to go 3 and out…that is key, and needs to be focused on…franchise qb’s move the chains…

    also conte getting straight punked…

mccoy apologizing twice in a row to ben for touching him…

    godwin’s iffy play…

grimes not really on point, or looking old…

    the rookie db’s improving…

djax killed it with that punt return…

#39 slamming into the wall and getting the flag on djax punt td…

fitzbeardrick getting flustered by the rough 2nd quarter plays…

but conte getting bitched and bodied like a wwe wrestler takes the cake

  5. adam from ny Says:

and the lack of a nasty big thumping linebacker on this team

  6. adam from ny Says:

i still have us beating the bears on sunday with fitzenfuss at the helm…

    we bounce back 30-17…

    #FuggDaBears

  7. Kansas95Buc Says:

Lmao at the Conte statement, that was terrible to watch

  8. OneBucPerson Says:

Too many self inflicted wounds, this was a game we should’ve won. I’m fine riding with Fitz for one more week but Jameis better be starting by Week 6 at the latest or we’re gonna have some problems.

  9. Bird Says:

If you think fitz was problem then you are one ☝️ f the joes

The INT was tipped. At game Saw it

  10. adam from ny Says:

we have realtime running game issues…we are promptly forced to have rojo active on sunday versus the bears – for the hell of it…it just has to happen instead of shaun wilson because the run game is starved for an injection- if our second round pick can’t do that, he should be cut and we grab a rb off the street – the team needs a spark to the running game…

teams now have a blueprint for stopping the bucs…just watch the first half tape…out tough and out muscle them…potentially play dirty and take the penalties…just play by the old rules and you’ll knock the pretty bucs passing attack out of whack

  11. Rod Munch Says:

The guy throws for over 400 yards and 3 TDs, but Dirk trusts the worst defense in football for the last 2 years to stop the best offense in football more than he trusts Fitz to get 10 yards when the game is on the line.

    Tells you everything.

  12. horse liver Says:

Fitz lost that game, with a supporting gag from Monken, and Koetter, Defense did better than expected, which means fairly awful instead of lenerdarily awful.

Bucs aren’t ready to be winners. Players or coaches. Can’t stand success. Soft as Charmin.

  13. Bigbucfan90 Says:

So Fitz throwing the ball low enough isn’t his fault…. cmon now smh I’m grateful for everything Fitz has done for us by taking us 2-1 and maybe let him start week 4 against the bears but I feel like that has to do with practice if Winston is looking as sharp as ever and beats Fitz out in practice I feel like you have to go Winston but then again it also makes since to sit him until after the by week. Again tha k you Fitz fitzmagic has been great but it’s time to B3li3v3

  14. James Says:

THE BUCS MADE ADJUSTMENTS AT HALF!!!! I don’t recall them doing that at all last season… absolutely amazed!

  15. Bird Says:

    Horse liver-

    Put the cardboard cut away

  16. Bird Says:

    Shame

    You saw the game

  17. adam from ny Says:

could ole fitzie be down to his last beard hair…just ask jameis

  18. Optimistic in CT Says:

Why mess with chemistry first half was awful The adjustments at the half offensively was the difference from the last 3-5 years Fitzs getting the time he needed was the reason they almost came back. the hold on the jacksons return was huge add that to the poor running game and the D unable to sack ben was the Killer. They had a legit chance to win that game and Fitz was the reason. Winston is a clown what’s the point of having a good QB who may or may not play due to his immaturity. Trade him to Arizona let fitz have the year and get a QB who actually cares about the game and not being a burden.

  19. adam from ny Says:

and where the hell is noah spence…hanging out at the asian buffet across the street and down the road from ray jay?

    wtf

  20. lambchop Says:

Reporters should have their credentials yanked for a game for asking such stupid questions. You’re not going to hear ANY athlete at ANY level say, “I hope the other guy takes my job cuz i like holding the clipboard and wartming the bench.”

What a waste of precious life. Ask intelligent questions like what adjustments were made in the 2nd half that changed the offense around. Or what he happened on the pick-6 if you want to be a legit sports journalist.

  21. Bird Says:

Dude. You were at the game

  22. lambchop Says:

    @adam from ny,

Spence can’t battle JPP and Curry for a starting job. He’s probably just not mentally committed or he’s gotten too undersized or he’s got a non-football injury. My bet is on that he has a hangnail.

  23. THETRUTH Says:

Kickoff return game sucked as well !!!

  24. RODNEY J ALLEN Says:

Bird one of 3 was tipped it wasnt all fitz fault just like it wasnt all fitz that won it was a team effort n lack of team effort

Dude was out their battling with a torn shoulder a number of times. Take your bs elsewhere.

  27. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Fitz throws 400 plus yards 3 games in a row and some of you guy are blaming him for the loss. Do you really think Jameis could do better? If so, look at last year’s record.

The loss should be blamed on all the mental mistakes which involved multiple players.

  28. eric Says:

everyone talking about 400 yards most of that came when the Steelers started playing soft coverages look at his stat line when the game was in doubt and they clamped down he was down right awful! Stop living in a fantasy football world last drive one completion needed did he make it no!

  29. Ndog Says:

You see people focus on the picks but there were so many other throws that were horrible by Fitz last night. He missed Evans on the final drive to win the game, he threw inside to Hump for an almost 4th pick on the second play of that drive, he missed Godwin on a deep corner route mid 4th quarter, he missed Evans wide open on the first drive forcing a punt, he threw to OJ multiple times when double teamed when Evans was one on one. He played horribly in many many ways. And anyone putting any stock on ESPNs take on Jameis needs you head examined as they have smeared Jameis since day one.

  30. Skywalker0028 Says:

Guys no one expects out team to go undefeated but you act like it after one loss. Let’s let this season play out a bit b4 we bash them to hard. I’m sure some of the players read this stuff so let’s encourage them more and be real fans. You guys don’t feel like our team is able to compete this year? Yes we have some holes but sheesh. I love my team and wearing my jersey with pride today and defend our guys against everyone who talks crap. And I’m from New England so I get hell about being a Bucs fan. At least we can support them when they come up short.

  31. Phil Says:

I’m thankful for the two wins Fitz got us but It’s now time for Jameis to take over. Jameis looked really sharp in the preseason. He only been away for three weeks so I don’t think he will be rusty.

  32. Walter Seidel Says:

FITZ for the rest of the season!!

  33. Tampabucfan88 Says:

Thankful for fitz he got us the two wins but looking back on the game and I know u fitzfranchise people are saying we should go with not looking deeper one thing fitz do not have is when the game in the 4th quarter and ur back against the wall u gotta find away to get that first Down fitz was a back up quarterback it was obvious on the field look what Ben did on third Down the pocket collapse and he find a man and finish (with some help with sum no call holding) but fitz didn’t show that and I know ur going to bash Jameis for the same reason Jameis can’t throw for 400 yards but he will do everything he can to win also here’s the question I gotta ask u and no u can’t have both would u rather a quarterback throw 400 yards or just win the game

  34. TOM Says:

Plenty of blame to go around. Team meltdown. I would have rather seen them lose to Philly or NO. Hate the stinking Steelers. Now I’ll tell you how I really feel…..

  35. BucsFanSince1976 Says:

The average per rush was 3.9 , not horrible , but there has to be a commitment to run the ball , or just admit you are quite content to be a pass first offense. The QB controversy is a non issue as the Bucs have to figure out if JW is the future of this franchise (or the future of another team as so many Buc QB’s have been). JW may not start in Chicago , but he will play if the game is not going the bucs way. JW will start in Atlanta regardless of what happens in Chicago-period. Make a move to get Leveon Bell if you have given up on Ronald Jones II , which you obviously have. Buccs are 2-1 after a really murderous schedule to start the season and any Buc fan would have said hell yeah I will take 2-1 before the season after the first three games. Go Bucs and get well soon Vita.

  36. americasenabler Says:

Fitz is just all grit man, love him. I think JW would have won that game though. I think we might see a back and forth between the 2.

I would start Fitz against the Bears and let JW take on Atlanta where he’s had some success. Atl hasn’t seen any JW tape and Bucs could capitalize on that. I see no reason swapping these guys out when one would do better than the other this season. I think both will do well. Those receivers need to step up though.

Bench Grimes. Love the dood but his day is done.

  37. sunshine Says:

the beard will hopefully keep starting !!

  38. MTM Says:

So every off season Licht cannot find a better player replace Conte? Licht is over his ski’s for GM. Fitz made some costly mistakes but if it were Jameis in the same position they would have had no chance.

  39. Gambelero Says:

Total Class, just a great answer.

  40. Bucsfanman Says:

ndog- I know where you are going with that. I’m OK with it, as I’m sure many fans are. Fitz is the back-up but he’s played like a starter. No QB in the NFL is going to be perfect all the time. It was unfortunate that it was last night because I thought the Steelers were beatable.
When Jameis returns, we will see if he can pick up that torch. 2-1, I’ll take it all day e’ry day!
