Bucs Release Week 1 Depth Chart

September 4th, 2018

Joe’s not going to overblow this since it’s often meaningless and little more than the Bucs (or any other team) complying with a league rule.

For those how like to interpret everything, the Buccaneers released their Week 1 depth chart this afternoon and there are a few points of note that could reveal the outcomes of summer position battles.

Vernon Hargreaves is listed as a starter, as is Caleb Benenoch at right guard. Also somewhat noteworthy is Ronald Jones as the third-string running back.

Rookie cornerback M.J. Stewart is behind fellow rookie Carlton Davis on the depth chart, and Chris Godwin and DeSean Jackson share the starting receiver position opposite Mike Evans.

VH 3…will get a pick in the Bucs win on Sunday !

  2. D-Rome Says:

Ronald Jones II is right where he deserves to be.

I’m curious to see where Noah Spence is on the depth chart. He’s probably where a former 2nd round pick should not be.

  3. Dan Says:

Jones is only listed because we drafted him. Honestly he doesn’t deserve to be.

  4. Dave Says:

I would love to see VH3 suddenly step it up from his rookie season. Maybe the new blood at DB will give him a kick in the ass, because those youngsters are playing well

As for Ronald Jones, I wish people would just lay off. It was one rookie preseason. The kid is explosive give him a chance.

  5. Tampa Stadium Says:

These seasons feel like one long season! I love the Bucs but it consistently feels like the off season is already among us. We have seen this S$!t show already. New DL men supposed to be QB jockstrap collectors. But in all actuality its the lone Avenger GMC show. There is one flicker of hope for me and its Buckner! I hope he turns this group into a eastern diamondback pit instead of a yard of garden snakes. Our DL and OL need to play like Buckner’s demon attitude!! Until these group prove something, our boat is still docked with a bunch of hungover Buccaneers. We all are tired of losing!

“Godwin to start over little Hump?….

Kobe is having a heart attack!!”

  7. LakeLand Says:

The WORST roster in the NFC South

    A total joke

  8. Kobe Faker Says:

“LOL! Who is running this joke of a team? Kobe just seen the depth chart and its missing Cameron Brates name completely! ”

    Klueless Koetter “Americas Jeff Fisher”

  9. Ruggyup Says:

Hey Lakeland-get over it and shut up. Being as vocally negative as Sen Chuckles Schumer doesn’t help our guys when they are giving their best effort. If that isn’t good enough the door opens both ways and the hinges are oiled.

  10. gilhealy Says:

    Uh, Kobe.

  11. gilhealy Says:

Kobe, I tried to paste the depth chart to no avail. Brate is listed quite obviously as first TE.

  12. Rod Munch Says:

Good for VH3 to have a nice camp and to be back in there, I just hope his play justifies it. I have faith in the guy, he had a nice rookie season (by rookie standards) and then fell off the face of the earth. Meanwhile the dopes on this message board literally blamed him for playing 15 yards off the LOS, saying it was VH3 freelancing, which of course is moronic since if he was the coaches would have benched him. Anyways we saw as the year went along that Mike Smith decided that having guys 15 yards off the LOS on 3rd and 5 was a great idea and VH3 wasn’t even on the field. The hatred for VH3 is insane, and the same dopes that hate him seem to think Ryan Smith isn’t that bad, in other words they have an IQ of a seagull.

  13. LakeLand Says:

    VH3 is a solid CB….unfortunately he’s playing on a CRAP team.

  14. LakeLand Says:

VH3 reminds me of the years that Aqib Talib was a member of this Sideshow.

  15. Godeep66 Says:

Makes you wonder if RJone will be a healthy scratch on Sunday.

  16. Rod Munch Says:

LakeLand – I like VH3, but to compare him in any way to Talib is pretty ridiculous. Also I wouldn’t even say he’s a solid CB. I think based on his rookie season he can become a solid CB, but he has yet to prove that, but I really hope he does step up and we just don’t notice him, that would be ideal for now.

  17. Lucious Selmon Says:

    Caption that picture!

    “Whatchu talkin’ about, Willis?”

  18. Reality-is-a-Beotch Says:

Vh3bust will embarrass himself like always. Put the kid out of his misery so he can go onto his true calling coaching pop warner and reliving his failed past.

The WORST roster in the NFC South

    A total joke

    100% accurate

  20. LakeLand Says:

    Rod Munch

You can’t really judge a CB in this piss-poor defensive scheme. VH3 has always been a solid CB, from pee-wee to UF. Up until the moment the YUCS drafted him.

  21. LakeLand Says:

And a fun fact for the record.

Aqib Talib was a part of this crapshow in Tampa for 4+ years and he never made the Pro Bowl. He made the Pro Bowl five consecutive years after leaving this pathetic franchise.

  22. SOEbuc Says:

I hope Shaun Wilson can get touches in the earlier part of the season and see what he looks like against starters. Him and PB could be what we thought PB and RoJo were gonna be.

VH3 looked great in the slot in that third game. An eventual three rotation of him-Davis-and MJ with J.Evans and Whitehead could possibly be a badass young secondary at some point.

Let me guess. Of course Conte’s starting over Whitehead. Dumbass’

  23. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Kobe Faker proves he cannot read. Godwin is NOT starting and Brate IS starting.

  24. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    LakeLand, go troll another website.

  25. Duthsty Rhothdes Says:

OJ howard not starting? cant wait for a new regime, so licht has 2 out 5 #1s starting on sunday and two #2s?

  26. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    None Bucs fans and trolls:

    Kobe Faker. LakeLand,. Reality-is-a-Beotch (Tmaxcon).

    Losers one and all.

  27. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Duthsty Rhothdes, OJ Howard is starting.

The thing I find interesting is M. J. Stewart being so low in the rotation. He must still be nursing an injury.

  28. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

This filter is killing me today.

  29. SOEbuc Says:

I hear Doug is ballin out in Oakland. Hahaha. No joke. “This is the best line I’ve ever ran behind.”

Bucs always talking about a run game but never can put together a dominant line. Need to do that before you get you target your future All-Star RB. They think Ali can do it all. Donovan Smith is not a dominant LT that has to protect what could be an up and coming franchise QB. Jensen is good I like him. Can’t have Evans starting at guard year after year. Dotson played well last year but is as old as dust and had surgery. Benenoch is waay overrated and when I say that I mean he’s second string material.

BIG OVERHAUL OF O-LINE FA AND DRAFT 2019.

  30. stpetebucsfan Says:

Yeah let’s see Doug “ball out” meaning the Muscle Turtle can now thrill Oakland fans when that “outstanding” line breaks Dougie into the secondary only to watch him consistently hauled down from behind.

  31. SchwiftyBuc Says:

    @Dusthy

O.J is listed as the starting Y Tight end ahead of Alan Cross who is more of an H-back/FB anyway.

O.J. will more than likely be on the field for 80+ percent of snaps like he was last year. The pressing question for this is whether or not he’s properly utilized as the explosive weapon he without a doubt is in the passing game.

  32. SchwiftyBuc Says:

    this *year*

  33. Bucsfanman Says:

    Good ‘ol Buc fans!
VHIII better perform sans the finger-wag. Do your job first. When you make a BIG play, please feel free to Mutombo as you wish.
Depth chart is meaningless outside of Godwin/DJax being “starters”. Godwin will make us forget DJax eventually.

  34. Back2bucball Says:

Rod munch, that’s gospel right there buddy! Preach

  35. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

So Lakeland comes out of the pit of despair to enlighten us with the wisdom that our roster is trash and the great Vernon Hargreaves is the next Talib.

Got to love this site! Bwahahaha.

  36. Issaic haggins Says:

How many times does it have to be noted Hardgraves struggles out wide !! Is he going to play more press ? Or is he just that improved or is this like watching FSu s offense last night fail at the same thing over and over and over !!! Stubborn ass coaches and GM s , sure hope he turns into Grimes but I wouldn’t hold my breath !!!

  37. unbelievable Says:

    @Lakeland,

    Your bias is showing.

VH3 routinely got manhandled when he went up against NFL-caliber receivers, especially the big ones.

I want nothing more than for him to become successful for us, but you can’t make a short guy taller or a slow guy faster.

  38. SB Says:

So CG beat out Hump who we just gave an extension to so that means we are SET at WR 1 thru 4!

  39. Kobe Faker Says:

“Omg! Kobe Haters photoshopping depth charts to put me in a bad light among the JBF readers. Shame shame shame”

    Kobe Faker

  40. Michael P Etzel Says:

Here is the big question still. (Well one of them..). If VH3 does indeed move inside on 3rd downs, who will be the outside corner? And if the answer is Ryan Smith, we’re in for a hell of a season. #HeadsWillRoll #PlaytheRooks

  41. Knoxville Bucs Fan Says:

VH3 a solid corner? Your kidding right? I’d put him down there beside Rod”toast” Jones. Definitely not up there beside Talib. How stupid

  42. THETRUTH Says:

when Ronald JOnes has big game these badwagon fans will be cheering him on.

These specialist that judge a career by preseason, if jones blows up you should be MAN or Girl enough to admit your wrong.

Learn to give people chance, like we did Rhonde Barber and John lynch who if you judge by 1st few seasons they would have been cut according to some clueless fans standards here.

  43. Tampaspicer Says:

I don’t agree with the return players listed at #1 on the depth chart.

  44. __TGH__ Says:

You know what would be great… if Kobe Faker turned out to be Lee.
    JK Lee 😉

  45. 813bucboi Says:

    VHG will step up….

    wheres whitehead?……

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!…#PRESSURESONTHECOACHES!!!!….GO BUCS!!!

  46. Broy34 Says:

Interesting Vea is listed. And sad that desean isn’t the punt returner after asking for it and us having such great wr depth.
