VIDEO: JPP/McCoy Blow Up Dotson/Cappa

August 7th, 2018

Bonding on the field and off

One observing multiple Bucs training camp practices would see that Gerald McCoy and Jason Pierre-Paul have similar taste in music, and there’s lots of beastly bonding going on between the two perennial studs.

They seem to enjoy each other’s company and guidance, and Joe sure hopes that means chemistry on the field — starting on opening day in New Orleans.

The video below is of McCoy and JPP running a pass rush game today on Demar Dotson and Alex Cappa in a pass rush/pass blocking drill. Fun and encouraging stuff — if you love defense.

The shotgun snap goes to the coach/pretend quarterback and then the games begin.

Enjoy!

  1. Pierce Says:

    Nice!!!

  2. m0j0 Says:

Dotson seems to have done his job, while Cappa needs to realize the stunt is coming but is late in reacting. He will learn, but it’s great to be going against guys like McCoy and JPP in practice, because how better to learn than by fire!

  3. DB55 Says:

Barnett and Cox should have a field day. I’d like to make a toast to Ryan Griffin – cheers.

  4. Tom Edrington Says:

In other words, they were emulating what the other team’s defensive line was doing to the Bucs offensive line so often last season…..that’s how you get to six wins.

  5. AlteredEgo Says:

One is a super hero…the other likes comic books

  6. Buccernutter Says:

I’m confused Joe. Your article you just posted said Dotson is nowhere close to being in the mix but here he is. Huh?

  7. ATrain Says:

Looks like McCoy Blew Up a few dunken doughnuts

  8. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Here is what we really don’t know……Is our Dline greatly improved? or… Has our offensive line gone straight to the $hitter?

I suspect it is a combination of the two.

  9. destinjohnny Says:

Jason is so odd, He just wont address some things, and then when he does finally address them…… He gets 167 players at that position through free agency and drafting. The guy has zero flow.

  10. Dooshlarue Says:

No more excuses this year Softie93……
Ah shucks, you’ll think of something I’m sure.

  11. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

The sad thing is that this most likely won’t transfer to anything meaningful outside of their own practices. They will most likely be silent during the preseason and regular season.

  12. reality-is-a-beotch Says:

Special Olympians can blow up Dotston and Cappa. wake me when the bucs have an nfl caliber right side of the line. dotson is pure garbage and should have been replaced a long time ago. just another mediocre feel good story that can’t help the team out of the basement and low standard buc fan loves their mediocre players. In addition, I am convinced he will be the next has been to join JBF as a contributor.

  13. BuccaneEric75 Says:

I’d be shocked if they didn’t. Two good veteran D Lineman against one coming back slowly from surgery and another a rookie D2 guy.

  14. Knoxville Buc Fan Says:

Confused as well as some others on here. Dotson? Where the hell did he come from? I sware to God I read earlier that he was still nursing his old body back to health. Heard Ira’s podcast say the same thing

  15. Knoxville Buc Fan Says:

Anyways he and the rookie got exposed. Not even close

  16. Chuckstutz Says:

Where was warhop correcting the Oline ? Never see the guy. Damn coaching. Is bugging me on this. Kudos to Buckner. But damn!

  17. HomerSimpsonRocks Says:

    This. Is awesome.

  18. Knoxville Buc Fan Says:

I’m guessing they’re easing DOTSON back in to 11 on 11 as camp meat since they have no one else to put in the grinder? Heads are gonna roll by Halloween if they don’t sure up the right side of that line. Hell I’d go ahead and put something together ASAP and see if I can pickup a solid tackle and/or guard for Djax and be done with it. That will eliminate a lot of potential problems before the real bullets start flying in September. On top of getting help over on the right side (he needs to start over there) you put Godwin in there where he needs to be as the #2. Also you have some $ to boot to maybe sign another legitimate back up on the right side of the OL.

  19. Buc believer Says:

Great to see JPP teaching the perennial loser/comic book character/ most overrated player in NFL history how to be a pro.

  20. BucaneroDorado Says:

It’s only one play… you guys need to chill out

  21. The Buc Realist Says:

And that is why a TE is lined up over DD and you have a rb that can pass protect!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  22. Defense Rules Says:

I’m with m0j0 … I thought Dotson did his job. Cappa did react late BUT … GMC & JPP pulled that stunt so quickly I had watch the video several times to really appreciate it. Most guards probably would’ve reacted just like he did, and so whether or not it resulted in a sack would’ve been determined more by how the QB reacted to that stunt than anything else IMO.

  23. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Bring back “Schiano Stunts”…..let’s do it…..lets move players all over the field……..hell….bring a punter (DB) up to the line on most every play.

  24. Dewey Selmon Says:

Good point Realist. If a slant had been called the ball would of been out. But I like what I see.

  25. SB Says:

I thought Dotson was Hurt Joe!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
What are you doing to us?
Dotson is not working in 11-on-11 and he’s the one saying he’s not ready for it. –Joe

  26. Buccernutter Says:

Okay well still confusion because Joe said he’s not even close. Looks close to me.

  27. Godeep66 Says:

The OLine will be the weak link of this team. That is until week 4 when JW returns, which will be a nightmare since JW has zero poise in the pocket.

  28. Cobraboy Says:

McCoy made that play happen. Nice…

  29. Bird Says:

    Can’t double them both!

Just need them to stay healthy

  30. SOEbuc Says:

Over GMCs entire career, the Bucs have finally put players on the line to where he won’t have to be double covered every play in every game. Only took 12 years and $100 million to figure it out.

  31. SOEbuc Says:

Looks like this Dline is very good or this Oline is very bad so far.

  32. 1Gr8Buc Says:

Just signed Jaron Jones. Not too familiar with him. Hopefully he helps the o line.

  33. stpetebucsfan Says:

This could get exciting. Instead of just having Batman and Robin life sized dolls in GMC’s hacienda…we could have Batman and Robin on our DL wreaking genuine havoc with OL’s and QB’s.

  34. 1Gr8Buc Says:

Nevermind he is a DT , story I read had him as OT instead. My bad guys.

  35. BucEmUp Says:

Once the regular season starts the stunts will stop, the coverage will be soft and weak, and Mike Smith will try and “confuse” the offense by being so vanilla it hopefully stops them dead in their tracks.

    BRILLIANT!!!

  36. AlabamaBucFan Says:

Cappa didn’t have a chance. Hopefully he picks up things quickly.

  37. Mort Says:

Dot was fine, Cappa got “blowed up” though.

  38. Ghastly Bucs Says:

You all are just racist towards GMC, no other excuse.

    *Did I do that right?*

  39. Joel Says:

WOW! Defensive players blowing up our crappy O-Line. Thanks for the preview of the season!

  40. Only1Buc Says:

some of you “BUCS FANS” are just retarded lol. GMC is one of our BEST PLAYERS overall. If you wont support our guys go root for the jaguars
