Update On Justin Evans

August 21st, 2018

Looks were deceiving.

The Bucs are being very tight-lipped about injuries today suffered by Bucs safety Justin Evans and left tackle Donovan Smith. But preliminary information on Evans suggests his injury may not be as severe as it first appeared.

Again, the Bucs are not releasing information. But Joe did some digging and found out the report that Evans was carted into the building was sort of misleading.

Yes, Evans was carted back to One Buc Palace early in practice, but it was sort of as a passenger in one of the many golf carts the Bucs use at practices. Evans walked off the field after his (unknown) injury and as a courtesy, the Bucs training staff brought him back to the building in a golf cart. It was sizzling hot out there today.

For a lot of fans, the phrase “carted off” conjures up an image of a guy being dragged off the field on a miniature flatbed truck because he is unable to get off the field under his own power, often reserved for serious injuries.

That was not the case with Evans.

He might needed an IV for fluids, who knows. Again, it wasn’t like Smith’s injury where players were standing around wondering if he was OK. Likely just a courtesy ride.

You didn’t do any digging Joe. I posted that same thing a few hours ago on another one of your articles. If you need a #2 Joe, I’m your guy.

One of the mainstream papers mentioned Marpet didn’t finish practice either.

Thanks for the update on Evans. What a garbage day

  7. SOEbuc Says:

I dunno about Evans, but there’s probably a good chance that a player used all of his body weight to put Smith on the ground. Can’t have that kinda thing in the National Flag Football League. Just lean back as far as you can and try to scratch at his eyes a bit.

  8. Lord Cornelius Says:

This is all I can find on Marpet and an injury today

“Ali Marpet was at trainers table on the sideline to get his left ankle wrapped. Looks to be alright. Thank goodness, the #Bucs can’t afford to lose another guy on the O-lline”

Not seeing anything about D Smith & ACL… other than JBF commentors talking about it and Jason Seahorn or Carson Wentz scenarios lol but nothing on twitter / from any actual source

  9. Radsy Says:

Good find Cornelius, clearly I’m not the only one scouring every site for updates from today

doesn’t really change anything could still be a significant injury if he NEEDED to be carted off or not.

Rick Stroud reported Buccs are optimistic both Evans and Smith are ready for opening day! I hope Evans doesn’t have turf-toe….as that can linger, but that is great news!!

I mentioned that earlier about the tweet and thought the same. That he was in good enough spirits to mention HB to ME13. Smith is going to be OK, and may be ready for the opening day per Stroud.

    Joe,

With MRSA in the prior medical team’s time, and a rash of injuries now, are the Bucs training and medical team on just as hot of a seat as the triumvirate of Licht, Koetter, and Winston? it just seems like there is something missing. I hope the team can be healthy for the season.
