George Warhop Needs To Unload

August 18th, 2018

Bucs OL coach George Warhop needs to kick some of his players in the behind.

Fun first half and frankly fun three quarters of the Bucs’ preseason win tonight at Tennessee.

Lost in the fun for Joe, however, was the fact the Bucs offensive line, to quote offensive coordinator Todd Monken, “chose to suck” in the red zone early.

Early in the second quarter the Bucs were marching and found themselves in the Tennessee red zone. On third-and-three from the Titans-15, left tackle Donovan Smith got busted for an illegal procedure penalty.

Dumb.

On the next play, the immortal Brad Seaton got nailed for holding which wiped out a 20-yard touchdown pass from America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, to Chris Godwin.

Dumber.

Two plays later, Caleb Benenoch got flagged for an illegal formation call which pulled three points off the board as
Chandler Catanzaro had a field goal erased.

Downright dumb.

Here the virtual entire offseason Bucs coach Dirk Koetter looked for ways to improve the red zone offense and just like last year penalties killed the Bucs offense.

But three penalties in four plays? That’s inexcusable and to Joe suggests there may be a discipline problem with some on the offensive line. You just know these guys were pushed this offseason to improve their mental games in the red zone. And then they pull this feces.

Fortunately, Catanzaro kicked a 44-yard field goal to save a few offensive linemen’s bacon. But dang it, that cost the Bucs four points and maybe more.

The NFL is all about close games. And crap like that will cost you games in the long wrong. Thankfully this happened in August and not later in the year.

Just no excuse for that crap. Bucs offensive line coach George Warhop needs to ream some people out.

Why is Rojo so bad? 4 carries for 2 yards. And I’m pretty sure he had the 1s in front of him.

  2. Jbeachbuc Says:

Maybe the title should read Warhop needs to be unloaded

  3. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Either Barber is our only RB that can gain yards…..or the Oline only blocks for him…..because no other RBs can even get started without having defenders all over them…..

The penalties were terrible….and need to stop.

  4. LargoBuc Says:

Garbage. Just plain garbage from our oline to end that drive.

    Comes down to talent

Hate for a next year mock but we need very established Olineman (RT in 2, and RG in 3/4) early in 2019 draft. Not D-III school. But all these Bucs dropping like 2017 Minesota, who knows. But it was certainly seen that Jameis is getting better when he has more time in the pocket.

  7. SOEbuc Says:

^^If he can now start to deliver down field now, think of how good his strong arm could do in the pocket^^

Jbeachbuc got it right. Warhop is not emphasizing discipline and learning and doing the fundamentals. That explains why we have had so many penalties from our OL the whole time Warhop has been here! And did you just happen to notice where the Titan OL Coach placed Pamphile? Was it at Guard where Warhop stuck him for years which was never his skill set? Of course not; the Titan OL Coach had the good sense to place Pamphile at Tackle where he played well tonight! I know Koetter has been swallowing all the excuses that Warhop gives him, but our Offensive Coordinator, who called another good game, needs to tell Koetter that the problem lies with Warhop!!! To stop it he needs to walk the plank.

I thought the O-line play was pretty good but the penalties will make any coach livid. Benenoch is our best option at RG and he can play but he’s got to get and stay healthy. Cappa looks overwhelmed at times and just fine on some plays. Jensen is as advertised so far and with Barber carrying the rock the negative/no gain runs turn into 3/4 yard gains. This will be the key to our offense rolling like 2015.

And it’s classic Koetter with Doug Martin still on 2nd and 10 and he puts everyone on the line and teams know he’s going to run and the RB hits a brick wall.

Joe the last time a catch phrase worked on the back of a shirt when Gruden shouted pound the rock. Even Jack Jacksonville tried to steal some of it’s magic by saying chop some wood and literally one of their players almost chopped their leg off trying to do it!

  12. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

Owlykat don’t you dare say bad things about Warhop or the offensive line! No matter what we saw and the players experienced one of the Joe’s swear up and down it was all Doug Martin’s fault he was being hit constantly in the backfield or Jameis fault because he had to side step a lineman as soon as he came out of his drop! Don’t you go there!😂🤣😂🤣

It was actually 5 penalties in 7 plays offensive plays total, and 3 – 4 of them were on the o-line. The other was on OJ Howard.

  14. DB55 Says:

Yea but you know what? It was a hell of a hold. If you’re gonna mess up do it at 1000%

Joe the last time a catch phrase worked on the back of a shirt when Gruden shouted pound the

    rock.

    Thank you!

  16. FairMinded Says:

Seaton looked flat footed a couple times. One block and his feet stopped moving on one play allowing a sack

  17. GhostofSchiano Says:

He needs to go all Brenston Buckner on their @$$3$$.

  18. TOM Says:

Never a big fan pf Warhop’s. Also D. Smith is so overrated. Mediocre at best.
