“Body Language”

August 12th, 2018

New leadership identified.

DeSean Jackson is a leader.

That’s the word from Bucs coach Dirk Koetter. Yesterday is his post-practice presser, Koetter was asked about the Bucs’ speedy receiver and, of course Koetter said Jackson’s NFL career brings immediate street cred to his teammates.

But now, Koetter said, Jackson has an added element. He has become a leader but not so much because he is vocal (Jackson doesn’t talk a whole lot but like E.F. Hutton, when he does talk, people listen). Koetter said it is Jackson’s body language that is influencing teammates.

“What he says, his body language,” Koetter explained. “DeSean has instant street cred because of his career. The players respect the heck out of DeSean, so when DeSean has good body language – he’s talked to the team at least twice so far. He’s going to be the captain this week in Tennessee. It’s a big difference if you see a guy that you respect out there doing what he’s supposed to do versus a guy that’s out there moping around. And hats off to him, he’s doing a good job.”

Joe isn’t exactly sure what Koetter meant by body language but perhaps it is that if Jackson is frustrated, he doesn’t let his emotions get the best of himself.

Jackson is a good dude and a good teammate. Joe is happy he’s sort of taking charge. This began to happen last year when the Bucs were struggling. Same with Lavonte David.

  3. Dewey Selmon Says:

E.F. Hutton? Showing your age Joe. Half the posters think it’s a rapper or a muppet.

  4. Joel Says:

Lavonte David (and for the matter Gerald McCoy) aren’t leaders. They’re perennial losers who can’t succeed in any defense or with anyone else around them.

Has David really been worth the money he’s been paid on his 2nd contract? The resounding answer is NOPE.

  5. El Buco Realisto Says:

Sounds like their was a vacuum of leadership!!!!! Wonder what happened??????

Would Tony Dungy be considered a great leader?

    Sapp?

    Lynch?

Three different types of leaders. McCoy just did not have help around him like Sapp and Lynch…so the results are not there.

But McCoy is 100% a leader. Just not the kind you prefer.

I do agree about Lavante though. He was supposed to be elite for us, and he’s been invisible.

McCoy has always been easy to spot…he was the guy with 2-3 blockers in front of him.

We saw the results of having other threats this past game. The double teams were split and McCoy produced.

Joel I respect your opinion but I disagree…

Neither McCoy or David have a “rah rah” kind of personality but they’re both Probowl caliber players that have been underutilized by their last 2 DC’s…As much as I hated Schiano’s coaching style in general, imo he had a better understanding of how to use these guys…He just lost the team because he was a tarrant…

Lovie and Smitty on the other hand, are old school coaches…they’re so caught up in their schemes that they can’t adapt to change; wether it’s personnel changes, or in game adjustments…Good coaches find ways to play to their players strengths, not force them to do things they may not be good at because of the “scheme”…

Wasn’t Lavonte the one who had the mental breakdown on the first defensive play of the season a few years back?

I think Jackson decided to step up once he witnessed the embarrassing Winston “eating Ws”. That video is still great.

  17. Reach87 Says:

Good story about a WR turned into a negative story about a LB and DT. Daily event. Queue the “I have a right…” comments. Sad. Go Bucs!

  18. Godeep66 Says:

He actually has exhibited poor body language since being a big. He has also quit on routes on numerous occasions. We are in trouble if this cash checking cancer is one of our leaders.

  19. Dre-Day Says:

Good ol’ cancerous Bucs “fans”. Turn a positive story into a negative quicker than you can holler at your mom to bring you a snack down to your basement bedroom in her home. You will never let us down.
