“Why Should We Give Him A Pass?”

June 30th, 2018

More outrage.

If you want to be heard, holler.

That seems to be the theory from BSPN talking head Damien Woody. The former NFL offensive lineman had a classic meltdown recently on “NFL Live” seen on BSPN weekdays.

Apparently Woody was not satisfied with his first performance. He ramped up the volume for a second act on SchlockCenter. And the rant was about — guess who? — America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston.

Joe will admit it is entertaining. Joe only hopes when Woody was in various NFL locker rooms he held his teammates to the same noble standard he holds Jameis to.

Take a gander.

    “to me it is unacceptable”

  2. Walter Says:

    America’s Sex Offender! Wooooo!!!

This is part of Bucs history forever y’all lmfao

  3. Tampabaybucfan Says:

The limited information from the NFL coupled with the minimal statements from Jameis and the Bucs have created a vacuum during a period where there is virtually no news.
This is going to be painful PR until Training Camp and perhaps beyond.

  4. JabooBuc Says:

He’s totally correct. Again, this guy was given a completely new lease on life by this franchise and he would have to be a complete moron (which apparently he is) to not understand his actions would be closely scrutinized after his history at FSU.

I have been on this site for the past couple of years defending his play. However, there is no defense for this. Especially, since JW has offered no defense. He’s been proven to be a liar, thief, idiot and sexual deviant and he’s the face of this franchise. I can no longer defend this guy.

  5. adam from ny Says:

wow he kinda mad!!!…he’s getting high blood pressure over yung jameis

  6. Roy T. Buford Says:

Some rant, some just away in disgust. I gave up two of club tickets after last year’s antics with the kneeldowns and political demonstrations. I will never take another client or family member or friend to a Bucs game. I will always go, because being a Bucs fan runs deeper in me than Winston’s sex crimes–though I hope they move so I can be proud of the character behind my team again. If the Glazers do nothing and bring Winston back with all his other perks like franchise face, team captain, etc, I will save $9K going into next year. No need to keep the payment plan. The Bucs need fans more than the fans need the Bucs right now.

  7. AlteredEgo Says:

RoyT…have you written the Glazers….I have

  8. LongSeason Says:

Jameis committed sexual assault and lied to investigators. No excuse. Woody is right. What standard will Buc fans hold Jameis to. I now believe his first accuser. We don’t need this guy as the face of our franchise. Is don’t care if he is having sex with a lot of women who are willing, but to grab, grope or force a woman into sex is where I draw the line. Bye-bye Jameis or bye-bye Bucs.

  9. Walter Says:

Let’s see all the fans with their conspiracy theories on why Jameis is innocent! hahaha it’s been quite entertaining.

  10. JMan5 Says:

I want to be proud of the Bucs doing the right thing. Looks like it will be a while.

  11. Pete I Says:

Everyone else has given him a pass and enabled him. America’s Choir Boy after all.

  12. Zwak Says:

    It’s a Bucs life..

  13. Walter Says:

If I were a defensive player on another team facing the Bucs, i’d start preparing some sweet taunts to use on him during a game lol maybe grab his crotch after a sack, or my own after a pick. The trash talking is going to be epic this year! I hope NFL films gets some of it on camera.

  14. Walter Seidel Says:

OK, Joe…so you think the dumb “America’s QB” is benign, and you defend it by saying “well, I’ve been doing it since 2014″ (guess James could say something similar…”well, I’ve been doing it since FSU”)…..It is NOT benign, and it DOES (attempt) to put this LIAR/MOLESTER on a freaking pedestal. Or……tell us……in your mind, what exactly does the “AQ” term confer upon Winston….in your eyes?

  15. adam from ny Says:

joe – it’s time to get trent dilfer’s take on this debacle

  16. Walter Seidel Says:

Oh man….Walter, you are SO RIGHT. I’m not endorsing those taunts, but they are coming!!! (if he ever plays again)

  17. Marc Says:

This is life with America’s Groper at QB.

  18. adam from ny Says:

if you see jameis shopping at publics or racking up at publics, be sure to run up on him and give him a wicked purple nurple!

  19. Dreambig Says:

What a senseless mess this all is. We all had hopes and expectations for Winston to take us to glory. Window of opportunity is rapidly shrinking. Winston has been Kinda like Schrödinger’s cat. Now the box is opening and we are not getting the results we wanted. Winston was in a place that he needed a nutrient rich environment to grow and take his game to the next level. Instead he has put himself into a storm of distractions that are going to hard to come back from. Bucs are in a horrible place now, but if Trump can walk up to women and grab them in the crotch and be the face of the United States of America, who are the Bucs to throw out Jameis? Most likely from a football perspective, this is going to be tough for Jameis to fight his way through.

  20. HomerSimpsonRocks Says:

I agree with his rant. Cut the guy. He’ll do something stupid again.

  21. The Buc Realist Says:

    @Joe

You wrote for months in the beginning of the offseason about “Accountablilty” But now you are not writing about “Accountablility”!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  22. Bobby M. Says:

Winston deserves a good bashing…..make it painful so maybe it will make a mark in his brain to remind him to stop being an a-hole. I think what this guy says is somewhat accurate, players understand the team has invested a #1 pick in Winston so they have to somewhat follow his lead but theres a point where the vets are going to say they’ve had enough. He’s not leading his teams to victory, he turns the ball over constantly…..he’s all bark and not much bite, now they have to entertain this all training camp and into the season. It gets old and these guys have egos….they want their credit when its due. Instead, if they win…is their a QB controversy….If they lose, could they have won with Winston….For the next 3 months it will be Winston….Winston….Winston.

  23. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

If not for my addiction to Ira, I would probably take a long break from this website. It seems all we get is bash Jameis stuff constantly, and frankly, the man does not deserve it.

The multiple usernames thing has made things truly chaotic.

I used to be able to just skip the comments and just read the articles, but the articles are all about dragging things down further and further. Every one of them, gives us more reason to give up than to hang in there as fans.

There are hundreds of media guys and bloggers jumping on the Hate Jameis bandwagon. Do we have to hear from them all?

Poor Ira seems to be the only voice of reason.

Joe claiming Jameis is not a leader now? Way to go…too far. PFT is going to run with that one!

I am quite sickened. Not by Jameis. By fan and media reactions to something we KNEW was coming for 9 months. Everyone is listening to these national guys and Tom Jones and letting it feed their hopelessness, and it seems as though that’s all this site is doing too.

Love this place, but it’s been hard to the last two weeks.

So how about rebuilding our hopes for a change? Instead of adding to the problem?

  24. The Buc Realist Says:

    @Buc Bonzai

Don’t confuse “Hate” with being “Exposed”!!!!!!!!!

And about the “So how about rebuilding our hopes for a change?” That is why I have been asking who will be the Hot, Upcoming GM’s that the Bucs and Team Glazer will try to entice to after the “fresh start” that we will see in January 2019!!!!!!!!!!

  25. Americas Qb Says:

Bobby is that how pats players feel like with Brady? Or saints players with Brees? Thats every team! Qb is always the one talked about whether its wins or losses. I cant wait til we are 8 and 5 and in the mix of the playoffs when all this complaining ia gone bc Winston ia tearing up the league. Bank on it! Tampa WILL go to playoffs this year!

  26. Walter Seidel Says:

In the NFL, deflating footballs (4 games) > sexual assault (3 games).

  27. meh Says:

    Cut him.

  28. JMan5 Says:

We don’t hold people accountable if we think they can throw a ball. We suck.

  29. Oxycondoms Says:

Wouldn’t have the bucs cut him when the allegations first came out? I’m sure the organization sat down with Jameis and asked for the details before all this came out this past week. They made no attempt at stregnthening the qb position in the off season

  30. JabooBuc Says:

Bonzai- how can you continue to defend this guy? We no KNOW for certain that he lied about this to everyone, including his employer. Within that lie, he essentially accused the Uber driver of lying.

While at FSU he continually put his team and coaching staff in the awkward position of having to defend his stupidity. Then, when given another chance, he does the same thing to the team that was willing to invest a 1st pick in the draft.

He clearly can’t be trusted to make good mature decisions so what makes you think he’s worth keeping?

  31. Not there yet Says:

@oxycondoms…I’m sure the organization sat down with Jameis and asked for the details before all this came out this past week

Yea you would think so only except this happened to years ago morons and they are likely to get news before you in most cases. Duh they had this conversation as soon as they found out which wasn’t last week….geez these people who easily allow the to shape their opinion.

Lol some of you really sounds pathetic and scorned….. You keep talking about but Winston or but bucs I’m saying yes he’s getting everything he deserves but the rest of you fans what are you waiting for because fans like me will keep rooting for this team we just need people like you to hurry and jump ship because Winston is on the team it’s not like you’ll come back and watch if we are in the playoffs lol because it’s not really about football so who cares if we win right…. Hurry up and get the hell on with your life

  32. JMan5 Says:

Bonzai why would you defend a guy who would clearly screw you over and ruin you. This proves he’s not a team guy he is clearly all about himself. You can’t say he’s grown up in two years or he would have owned this in November. He’s still telling friends in private he did nothing wrong. Have some respect for yourself.

  33. BFFL Says:

Does anyone else find it odd that Darby got off free of suspension for apparently lying to NFL

  34. ARGH_M8E Says:

    Idiot

  35. Roy T. Buford Says:

@BFFL, Darby perhaps didn’t lie. He WAS in the car for the first ride, not the second. Probably more accurate to say he maybe didn’t tell the whole truth. That said, perhaps he’s next under the glass. I think it depends on how cooperative he was in giving up his phone and with the investigators. He’s a dirtbag, so if doesn’t get nailed on this, probably only a matter of time for him.

  36. glen k mattingly Says:

What does this say about our community? We are okay with Winston’s actions as long as we win? The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be a losing football team until the owners start leading with integrity. Many men, much better men than Winston have been fired or had to resign over their lack of discretion and integrity. Fire Winston, hire Kaepernick. Are we saying that kneeling during the National Anthem is worse that grabbing a woman by the pu**y and lying about it?

  37. Ndog Says:

I am not defending Jameis here but does anyone find it odd that Jameis is being treated like the devil himself but yet Ben Rothisberg had two Rape issues while in the league, Ray Lewis was investigated for MURDER and they get treated like hero’s. Maybe I missed something but isn’t Rape and Murder worse than touching someone over their clothes for 8 seconds? Again all are wrong but one is getting killed when the other two which have much worst issues are loved.

  38. Fire Goodell Says:

Did the Ravens think about cutting Ray Lewis when he was charged with murder? He pled guilty to obstructing justice and the NFL fined him $250,000, but next season he won Defensive Player of the Year and Super Bowl MVP (in the Den of Depression) and is now a hall of famer.

  39. Dewey Selmon Says:

We all know what’s going to happen if we drop him. someone will take a chance and he will win a Super Bowl ala Williams, Young and Dilfer.

  40. BFFL Says:

    @Roy T
I think you’re right. Im sure Darby struck a deal with NFL.
Kate was clear the groping occurred while in a drive thru so there shouldn’t have been any doubt in which ride was in question.

  41. Kobe Faker Says:

“2018 season is all about playing JW3 and trying to get the highest draft pick value for him…

2019 season there will be a veteran free agent QB and and a high QB draft pick ….

2019 season, JW3 will be traded out of Tampa Bay….

Licht bulb and Klueless will still be here with 2 years to suceed with the new QBs”

    Kobe Faker

  42. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Many Buc fans have a dilemma…..they love their team and desperately want them to win….and they absolutely are in favor of cutting/trading Winston.

I guess I fall into the more fortunate category…..I’m in favor of giving him another (perhaps 3rd) chance.

I hope these fans can rectify the dispute within them because you can’t root for your team and against your QB.

    Very sad, sad indeed.

  43. JMan5 Says:

Well TBBF when you put it like that.. can’t root for a sex offender. Guess I’ll sell my tix to opposing fans.

  44. stpetebucsfan Says:

    @AlteredEgo

Just caught up on all the threads. You bro have nailed an excellent point that somewhat shamed me for not thinking of it until you posted it. Clearly Jameis has major issues…he’s simply not as dumb as his actions. Perhaps it’s an emotional issue. Whatever you are correct!!!

Jameis could probably use a year off, not so much as punishment but as a time to get his head together and figure life out. Because he looks like a lost dude right now.

    @Bonzai

Sorry to disappoint you if your still reading me. LOL I was a HUGE Jameis fan and it’s not even the crotch grabbing that did me in so there’s not need to trash Kate as a gold digging cleat chaser….I do not care.

But since you and Pickgrin…another poster like you who I respect greatly seem to be the most ardent defenders of Jameis perhaps you could explain this for me?

So imagine negotiations between the Bucs and Jameis and his agent. Given the atmosphere at that time with the Kinsman and FSU stuff still looming large do you suppose the Glazers/Licht had a conversation with Jameis about his behavior going forward…most importantly HIS NIGHTLIFE!

So say they explain this to Jameis and say we’ll sign you but only if you promise to stay away from the party scene! If at that point Jameis had said…oh sure except I reserve the right to be out at 3AM with RONALD DARBY and an alleged rapist hammered to the max the Bucs would have signed him?

Seriously guys…IF the Bucs knew this would happen before the draft does anybody here believe they would have selected him?

  45. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    JMan5

Each to his own and I certainly respect that…..but it is sad….in particular for long-terrm fans. I’ve been there for the very start and it would be practically impossible for me to abandon them for any reason…..I also have a fairly high moral compass….so I’m conflicted.
Part of that moral compass is forgiveness….but that, too , only goes so far.

  46. Belligerentbuc Says:

Anyone remember Joe Namath trying to make out with a reporter on MNF?

Or that picture of Jerrah Jones drunkenly groping a woman?

Or Ray Ray commiting two murders?

Oh and how bout scumbagg NFL passing of Jerry Richardsons $2.5million fine for racial & sexual abuse sandwiched in between Jameis’ news?

This NFLPA, Jameis reps, and NFL(Glazers who partly pay Goddells salary) had a meeting of the minds and decided how can we make this not sting as badly in the press and still bring a ring to Tampa. If you think the Glazers had no hand in this, you are as naieve as Melania thinking Donald is her faithful celibate companion.

  47. Grt1 Says:

A lot of people on High horses here. President did the same exact thing. Jameis is a kid and a dumb one at that. If he doesn’t straighten up he’ll run himself out of the league. The Bucs aren’t cutting him trust me. It’s a business point blank. Is anyone here boycotting the government. Stop calling for his head , you guys have mob mentality. If you don’t like don’t tune in end of story. Let’s get behind the rest of our boys and the welcome back Jameis. Go Bucs.

  48. JMan5 Says:

TBBF I can respect your stance. I’m more disappointed that their seems to be no real personal accountability displayed by Jameis.

  49. BuccaneEric75 Says:

Winston can survive the fan outrage. I live in PA and I’ve never met a Steelers fan that stopped watching them because of Roethlisberger, and he was also accused twice and it was way worse than touching someone inappropriately.

  50. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    JMan5

How about this….I will be asking all those who oppose Jameis’ presence on the team to at least watch one game when he returns….perhaps Chicago….perhaps after the bye……watch the team with him at QB…..see how you feel….see if you can still see fit to root for the Bucs…..then decide….if it’s no….fine…at least you gave them a chance.

  51. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    JabooBuc Says:
“Bonzai- how can you continue to defend this guy? We no KNOW for certain that he lied about this to everyone, including his employer. Within that lie, he essentially accused the Uber driver of lying.”

Kindly show me any proof that he has personally lied. I’ll wait.

  52. T REX Says:

The JW defenders are the worst kind of human. Disgusting. Untrustworthy and low lifes. They would rather protect a piece of human trash than women. They have probably been burnt before or grew up fatherless and soulless. The world will be a better place when they are gone with JW. I hope they follow him to his next team in Canada.

  53. CarolinaBuc Says:

Only thing I’m mad at Winston for is lowering his standard for that mutt. The reason you didn’t hear anything about this earlier is because It took time for that jackel to be coached by her friends that this could be her meal ticket out. 2 years how did she make it thru everyday with such mental anguish Damien Woody has smoked crack, cheated on his wife, smoked weed and done coke. That coon was told to say that. Listen to the sound bite….See how the audio was echoing. That wasn’t his voice that caused it. It was the studio amping it up for that crackhead. I don’t condone sexual assault. But some women or liars. If it was my daughter she wouldve told me the same night. Just remember American history were thousands among thousands white women lied on blackmen. Most of them was coherse d by their significant other. Have anyone wondered why they call Winston “America’s Quarter back”. Any sport that has mostly Brown and Black atheletes will show exactly what every player makes per game. Tell me what David Beckham, Michael. Phillips and any tennis player, any golfer..,.,….Exactly

First, you are making some assumptions there. We were not privy to the conversations, so we don’t know what was said. Just as we were not privy to the most recent conversations between Winston and the NFL. How do we know it did not go like this:

Winston: I did not do this.

Goodell (post investigation): We cannot prove you did it, but if we don’t do something, our image will take a big hit. So we need you to take the hit for us.

Winston: There’s no way I’m taking being suspended 6-12 games for something I did not do.

Goodell: Well, what if we knock it down to just 3 games?

The point is, nothing has been proven. Did the investigation letter offer any proof? Nope. They said they talked to people, looked into phone records, talked to witnesses (which, btw, if Jameis was alone, how could there be witnesses). They offered no insight into what was said or discovered, but they said he was guilty of sexual misconduct. Again, without coming out and saying he was actually guilty of the accusation.

Winston himself said that was not the type of person he is, and there have been reports that he is telling his friends and teammates that he did not do it at all. (TMZ)

The Buccaneers said they were disappointed that he put himself into such a position, but of what? Being falsely accused? Not driving drunk? Stopping for food?

Nothing, absolutely nothing, has been proven by this report.

And Kate, who claimed not to even know of him, said “Mr. Winston once said, “Girls should be silent, polite, and gentle.”

How would she know that if she knew nothing of him?

This stinks to high heaven, and it ticks me off that the media, who knew all along that he would get suspended whether he was guilty or not, are suddenly all over him like this is such a big surprise. Where was their judgement when the accusations were made? Where were all these new posters popping up here 9 months ago?

It’s a smear campaign, plain and simple.

And those very same people who want Winston cut? They’ll be blaming to Bucs if he goes on to succeed elsewhere, because they are total hypocrites.

  58. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Sticks and stones. You know nothing about us.

For example, you would not know that I am a god-faring man, a dedicated father, a husband of 24 years, and a former minister and missionary.

But of course, I am the worst kind of human…because you want to justify yourself with childish claims.

  59. csidedave Says:

I did email my rep to opt out of auto-renewal for the 12 month payment plan for the 2019 season. If you don’t do it by the renewal date which is sometime in August I believe, then you are committed to next season. This way, I can bank the money and don’t have to decide now if I want to renew.

My rep called within 15 minutes. She was very understanding and did not try to talk me out of it. She said management wanted all the feedback from the customers and that she has been doing this all day for several days.

At this point, I just want to keep my options open but renewing in 2019 seems unlikely. If you think that means that I am not a true fan, that’s fine. But I have stuck it out through a lot of rough seasons in the last 30 years.

  60. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

In the NFL, deflating footballs (4 games) > sexual assault (3 games).

    Let’s not forget:

Get caught smoking weed twice= 16 games
Sexual assault and domestic violence is wrong, but dang it the league draws the line if you’re a real sicko marijuana smoker.

  62. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Bonzai…

Jameis didn’t lie….he just stated that there were other passengers in the car…..and that the driver was confused…

He simply forgot about the second Uber ride when he stated that…

So, he has a very bad memory….but not a liar.

  63. Roy T. Buford Says:

@TBBF…I can indeed root for the team but not root for the QB, but it is not the same gusto at games. After the whole kneeling crap started I sat out one game in “protest” and told the Bucs I’d return when I saw a statement out of the organization to the effect of respecting the naitonal anthem. They did one, so I was back. I can realize some players are idiot dirtbag drug using woman beating liars, but I can’t support it when the organization as a whole acts that way. They haven’t. Yet. Just like I do with Mike Evans, I won’t buy any of #3’s gear, won’t have a good thing to say to clients and friends and family about Winston, and when is announced coming out of the tunnel I will stop applause. If he messes up on or off the field, I’ll be the first to slam him. Like I said, I can still support the team, but it’s not the same. Now, if Winston is still the team captain this year and still has his mug on my stadium, I will not buy any tix for next year until the April deadline comes and I have to decide. I go to two or three away games a year. I always get the Winston rap*st jeers, and have ignored them to now, sometimes look at the perpetrator expressionless. But hence forth, I will respond with an “I agree 100%!” and offer a thumbs up. I realize this doesn’t amount to a hill of beans to Winston, but I am true to my own principles which is all that matters to me, and the Bucs get the feedback.

  64. JabooBuc Says:

Bonzai- Really??? Well, he said “I believe the driver was confused as to the number of passengers in the car and who was sitting next to her”. We now know this to be a false statement meant to question the credibility of the driver. It infers that there is no way he could have done this because there were others in the car and that he was never next to her. We now know, based on the comments of the other passengers, that he was in the car alone at least at some point during the evening. Thus, he was the one confused and a total lie.

Also, we can infer that the NFL has additional information. They found her accusation to be both credible and consistent. Based on his suspension, we can infer they did not find his defense credible or consistent.

I would ask you this question, would you not defend yourself to the ends of the earth if you were accused of sexual misconduct in a “he said/she said” situation that would have tremendous implications to your entire life and career, potentially costing you hundreds of millions of $$$?

He has offered no defense at all since the suspension. This, to me, is an admission of guilt, which would also imply that he lied. Simple as that.

  65. Dapostman Says:

This is all part of the NFL’s marketing to keep fans talking about the NFL while it’s offseason and TV ratings are down. Once the ‘real games’ start and the 3 game suspension is done this will be a whisper in NFL circles much like the Big Bonehead Ben fiasco. NFL keeping their lemmings on a tight string. The NFL knows drama sells. Fans eat it up.

  66. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    At Roy

I understand completely…….but by not rooting for the QB, I meant more like hoping he would fail on the field…..that, I’m sure isn’t what you’re hoping for….I agree that he doesn’t deserve the respect of a beloved player unless & until he earns that back….he has lost that with me too….

But, as long as he’s a Buc, I root for him to light it up.

  67. JabooBuc Says:

TampaBayBucsFan- C’mon? Really? At the time he made the public statement about this, you don’t think he knew that at some point he was alone in the car? This is a very easy thing to get straight with your friends, even if at some point you were confused.

  68. Not there yet Says:

Like it or not this happened after his rookie season right. Everyone out there agreed he’s extremely immature even if you take out the tape allegation from college he was immature. It’s been two years that he’s probably known this will come out and everything he’s done in the community an in his homework has come after that. Either he’s easing his conscious or he realized how easily he could run his career. 2 years to wake up Get married start a family. Lol short of some type of tiger woods meltdown he’s already started a new life uuúm maybe

All of you outraged gold want the Glazer’s to dump him based on something from his rookie season which just isn’t realistic for anyone to believe should or will happen. If we had found out 2 years ago hey I’m we wouldn’t have drafted Roberto aguayo we could have gotten a quarterback and created competition or gotten in on trades this off-season but they didn’t do that. I don’t want him cut not because I believe he’s elite or believe he’s innocent

I honestly simply want to see this place out in training camp and games. He earned being heckled and made fun of so I want so see the drama play out. If the chick is such a victim Sue him make him pay be more outraged than she is and because she’s not like other women have. I don’t think the grouping was the first impulse for someone who is a talker, I bet he thought he was bringing an Uber driver home that night. Not sure why he didn’t try to bring a girl home from the club but ok

  69. EEK Says:

He’ll be bad on the field (again) and management won’t have any trouble with their decision.
I think Winston has shown us he really isn’t that good and certainly not consistent enough at winning games and to somehow become a top 10 NFL qb.
In some ways it is almost better that he implodes off the field. If he were a decent guy (not sexually assaulting women even) and similarly bad at football he may cost the franchise even more years of mediocrity from his inconsistent play before the organization has to move on – Mariota, Tanneyhill, Cutler, Bradford, Palmer, Dalton, etc.

  70. Capt.Tim Says:

    First Josh Freeman
    Now Jameis Winston

Wonder how many more picks this embarrassing excuse of a team can waste, on mentally unhinged QBs.

Im just furious at Jason Licht. He lead the investigations in to Winstons immature behavior at FSU. He interviewed him, and everyone he knew.

Licht knew this could happen. He knew it almost certainly WOULD happen.
Yet he gambled the franchises future on a sex offender. He sold allof us a reinvented version on Winston, and we bought it.
Now, we have a team that might be good enought to make the playoffs in a year or two, and we are now forced to go QB shopping.
Jameis, with his past reputation, wont survive this.
And we dont want a rookie. This team will be ready next year
Once again, a wasted first round pick. Once again, thus cursed franchise is in a terrible spot . Thanks Licht

You wrote for months in the beginning of the offseason about “Accountablilty” But now you are not writing about “Accountablility”!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just a hunch that a suspension (which cost money), an unlikely payout on his next contract and what was likely a payout to the driver is “accountability.”

  73. Bucsfan1988 Says:

This is really the first time I’ve voiced my opinion on here regarding “Grope-Gate”. BUCS brass have invested so much money, time, & effort in Jameis, they simply will not just “cut” him. However, they need to do the following for starters:
    1) Remove his face from the side of Raymond James Stadium and any marketing material that was used.
    2) Remove his captain-ship as he is completely back to square one, he has ZERO trust earned from his coaches & players.

Obviously he made a bone-headed mistake, but the mistake was magnified when he deceptively lied and had Ithers cover for him about the 2nd Uber ride.

But what we don’t know is if Jameis was soooo obliterated from booze that he doesn’t fully remember what went down after he left the club. We aren’t sure if he lied or doesn’t remember. Regardless, that doesn’t get you off the hook.

This talk about Jameis being a sexual predator is way magnified. This Uber driver never filed a police report or engaged an attorney for a lawsuit after it happened. She obviously wasn’t “threatened” by Jameis antics or his drunken aggression. Based on this in MY opinion, Jameis tried to use his “man game” to pick up th driver, and he failed miserably. She probably even felt sorry for him cuz of how drunk he was so she just let the situation go by. Total dumb play by Jameis there especially with the groping act.

If I were the Glazers, maybe they add another 3 games as well to his suspension from their end and make him sit longer. I think they will heavily monitor Jameis’s actions & demeanor thru the rest of the season as well as his overall play on the field. If the Bucs win some games with him at the helm, they will stay out and honor his 1-year option. I think they would Franchise tag him for another year as well to let him try & get back in the good graces of the team & the community as a whole.

However if he plays like crap, throws a bunch of pics and fumbles a ton, and the Bucs are in the divisional cellar again this year, they will look for a trade partner and try to draft a new QB next year.

I’ve been a Bucs fan for 30 years, and I hate the dark cloud that is over the team & community right now. Jameis’s lack of respect for himself and others had destroyed the positive image that he was trying to build since getting drafted. His career is in the NFL is on the line, so he better have removed his head from his a$$ since that situation occurred 2 years ago. Anymore screwups and he is DONE!!

Jameis, you got a TON of work to do to earn back everyone’s respect. You best get to it, and grow up. Be a good dad, and a good husband.

    Bonzai

It’s hard to take you seriously sometimes…

“And Kate, who claimed not to even know of him, said “Mr. Winston once said, “Girls should be silent, polite, and gentle.”

How would she know that if she knew nothing of him?”

It’s called Google, everybody knows that….

Pretty sure ol’ Kate Googled Jameis Winston when she got home that night. How do you think she found Kinsmans Lawyer.

I find your position that this is all a big frame up/ smear campaign laughable.. The only thing more laughable is the contention that he was blackout drunk and didn’t remember. Jameis has had enough enablers in his life.

10 months after signing his rookie contract and telling everybody to judge him on his actions, he does this..

His “apology” was a crock. He doesn’t believe he did anything wrong. The good Rev.Jameis

    Just Jameis being Jameis

  75. T REX Says:

Bonzai looking like a whack-a-doodle on here. Wow. Naive. Gullible. Scary stuff. JW fooled us all. Pat Donovan said it best. There’s two Jameis Winston’s – one that the public sees and another one with a dark side and demons. The one we see is a facade. The guy is a lying scumbag.

    Please cut his ass.

  76. tnew Says:

Bonzai, not sure that you are still on the thread, but there have been people waiting and wanting this moment since the day he was drafted. This includes much of the media, especially ESPN. (terrible decision on his part there to go with the NFL network first vs what tradition indicated which was to go to ESPN. I know he wasn’t happy with the way ESPN handled the Kinsman investigation but no matter)

I do agree with Joe that he has poor PR people, but ultimately, this is his decision as well. The people advising him have done a terrible job.

now.. I said I’d wait before putting my opinions out and I really don’t want too based on the logic, but I said I’d do this so I will.

I always wait until all of the facts that can come out do then I formulate and opinion. I believe all of the facts that actually will be out have come out at this point. Still a ton of conjecture floating around and really some lazy logic from most on this board. I know logic is dead around here on both sides of the argument but here it goes.

Winston put himself in a position that looked bad enough that it warranted a 3 game suspension. If the NFL believed they could and should get 6, that would’ve been the number. Whether he did this or not is pointless. He has shown consistent, terrible judgment (and that is truly horrific and warrants a huge question mark. Yes he is young but when you are paying these guys that much money, you can’t act like any ordinary young guy) at a minimum. Arguing true innocence or guilt is meaningless as there isn’t enough physical proof to actually know. However, the biggest flaw I see is the “He grabbed a girl’s crotch so he had to have raped the other girl too” This is a Grand Canyon jump. Examining the two incidents, Kinsman and Kate. They are two separate incidents. Most of us (myself included) believe he grabbed Kate (and I don’t believe it’s ok) due to his inconsistent accounts that he has given. Hammering Winston with Kate because his story doesn’t match up is totally appropriate. The Kinsman deal is different. His story was the consistent one in that situation. Hers was the one with holes. So, crush him for the Kate deal because his story didn’t align I agree with, but maintain some consistency. Kinsman’s story was ever-changing and does not align with the facts of the case (and I am throwing out friend testimony on Winston’s side for both incidents. Just more he said, she said) This in no way minimizes anything he has done. His judgement is deplorable to be in either of those situations. My opinion, if you are constantly putting yourself in compromised positions, you will absolutely fail, so never, ever put yourself in such a situation.

Now….Defending the position that the Bucs shouldn’t cut him is not in any way giving him a pass. From a Bucs perspective, this is a business and this should be handled like a business decision. The QB position is the position that requires the most capital to be competitive. If the franchise is constantly chasing this position, they are screwed. Most people on the board use personal feelings to evaluate Winston’s performance. Currently, Winston is solidly a middle of the pack QB but most key stats indicate that his performance is trending up. Given all of his factors, there is a very real possibility that he could be had with a discount on his next contract. Having a middle tier QB for a bottom tier salary has tremendous value in order to build a team. Remember too, he’s on an incredibly short leash. One more incident and he is a back-up for any NFL team. As far as winning over the fan base. Winning cures a ton of his problems. Ask the fans of Kobe Bryant, Ben Rothlesberger, Peyton Manning, Ray Lewis to name just a few.

As far as getting a pass, this I disagree with. Winston is now in a super deep hole. He has a three game suspension for conduct. This is totally unacceptable from the QB position. The starting QB position is way, way more valuable and has more accountability than any other player. Winston will be judged this season based on his performance and he has given up a minimum of three games for that evaluation. So, he starts with a minimum of 3 bad games. If Fitz catches fire and leads the Bucs (independent of record) then Fitz should remain the starter. If Fitz is successful, Winston could have his entire season occur as a backup. His fifth year option could either be rejected, picked up or (my favorite) a new contract similar to his rookie deal get offered. Saying that he’s getting a pass here is just crazy. My best guess is this will cost him close to $50mil plus the Bucs are likely to pick a QB in the next draft. Had he kept his nose clean and developed on the same curve that he is progressing on, his next contract would’ve pushed $25 mil a season. Now, he’s looking closer to $15mil.

His conduct on and off the field has to be perfection. There is less than zero tolerance. Its more than he just can’t screw up. He has to bend over backwards in my view. If he can’t, then the Bucs have to move on at the end of this season. Professional must be the only adjective next to his name. He must learn to have more self-control than he ever has. After all, if you can’t control yourself, what can you control..

I know most of you will say I’m a defender, some will even say I’m a hater but in the end what I truly am is a Buc fan. I want to do what puts the organization in the strongest position going forward. Marrying Winston as our long term starter now doesn’t do that. Cutting him doesn’t either. Lets see if he will learn from this or is he unteachable.

I encourage a little more forgiveness for his past and a lot less patience from his future.

  77. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

Yeah Woody wasn’t pounding the table for Ezekiel Elliott to be cut.
Zeke had multiple things happen, most in just one off-season. Including a fight with a clubs DJ (wouldn’t play his song?), domestic violence allegation, and even worse than Jameis, he without consent revealed a woman’s breast to thousands of people.
Did Woody say get him out of here? I dont recall anyone saying that. Jameis will forever have that first allegation hanging over him and its unfortunate that it has already predetermined most people’s minds.

  78. Buccfan37 Says:

Anybody with one eye one ear and half sense knew Winston had issues when the Bucs drafted him. The FSU crowd poured onto his defense early and heavy, that’s what fans do. So the latest is no great shocker but some of the fans reaction is so overblown as if a 20 years to life infraction has taken place. I accepted Jameis for who he is back when he joined the team and am still willing to wait for the turnaround with the Bucs going forward. He has not disgraced the Bucs, the owners or this fan. Time heals most all perceived wounds. I want to see him play with our improving overall Bucs team and really want that to become a reality. Hell, I was doing bad stuff past his present age by a few years. GO BUCS!

  79. stpetebucsfan Says:

    tnew

As always an excellent post glad you weighed in. I agree with much but objectively I just do no longer have the ability to trust him.

I went with all the plausible excuses for the FSU misbehavior…largely the “youthful indiscretions” argument. As for the rape charge it was investigated and as you point out there were more inconsistencies in the “she said” than the “he said”

And so I was very happy when the Bucs picked Jameis. I believed then and still believe Jameis is better than Mariota.

But Jameis has done so many stupid things and he’s not a dumb guy. So that begs the question…what is wrong with him. Just how entitled did he grow after more than a decade of hero worship and adoration?

Those who do not learn from the past are doomed to repeat it. And so I would always wonder…even if he played well in ’18…will he be there for us in ’19..’20?

From my perspective it currently says we are all judgmental, don’t consider any chance for redemption, you screw up your gone.

I agree with Buc Bonzai I’m fed up with all this nonsense talk.i hope the Glazers punish more, but until we actually hear from JW and the team, I’m not ready to cut him. But that all depends on what happens next.
