Team Glazer, Elusive X-Factor & The NFL Report

June 24th, 2018

Bucs co-chairmen Bryan (left) and Ed Glazer.

Joe can report with certainty that the Bucs hierarchy has been bracing for a four-game suspension of America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, for several months.

But that may be irrelevant to how they proceed when a suspension is made official.

Joe wagged a finger at the Bucs months ago for not launching and completing their own investigation of Jameis. Nothing was stopping the team from learning everything possible about what may or may not have happened with Jameis and his Uber-driver accuser on the March 2016 date in question.

Every Team Glazer resource should have been used to find the truth. But that’s a story for another day. However, it does tie to how Team Glazer and their underlings might approach the impending Jameis findings by the NFL investigative team.

If Roger Goodell chooses to paint Jameis as a guilty crotch-groper via the NFL’s public suspension report, will Team Glazer believe Goodell and the veracity of his investigation?

Suppose Team Glazer, how sang the praises of Jameis two months ago, does believe Jameis is guilty now but didn’t then? That certainly could change the game for an organization whose reputation in the community is about 10 times better than its reputation on the field.

Throw in that Goodell might publicly order Jameis to complete a series of sexual harassment and abuse classes, alcohol education courses and shame him for being reckless.

So much now hinges on how Goodell wants to portray Jameis — and whether the Bucs are willing to back “The Shield” and treat the report as gospel.

The Bucs have their own off-field image to be concerned about, too.

Team Glazer could go in many different directions. They could come down hard publicly on Jameis and set the stage for his “last chance” in 2018, maybe even take Jameis’ image off the stadium facade and all marketing — quick and easy steps to look tough before their sponsors and fans who spend big money.

Team Glazer could also be bold and publicly blast the conclusions of the NFL investigative team and Goodell in an effort to rally behind Jameis and convince fans Jameis has been railroaded.

Of course, this all goes back to the elusive x-factor known as the truth.

Joe has no idea what’s in Team Glazer’s collective heads regarding the future of Jameis, but the Bucs are a business. So follow the money. It’s the safe bet.

  1. Grt1 Says:

Glazers will bash the commish. Just like Robert Kraft and Jerry Jones lashed out against him.

  2. The Buc Realist Says:

When has the league office painted anyone in a bad light????? If anything, they leave room for players sides to put out a BS spin, like it was an “energy drink” or “a lost and/or destroyed my phone” or even ” I am being suspended for not reporting”!!!!!!!!!!!!

If anything the league office protects its players, even when in major trouble!!!!!

So not that joe has thrown out bread crumbs for doubt in every direction, except how JW3 only has himself to blame!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Like I have said, if only the o-line protected The QB like joe does jw3, then he would never be touched!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!!

  3. Greg Says:

Team glazier is not Jerry Jones and we are not the Cowboys. They have no intention regardless of the findings of going up against Roger Goodelle. If there is even a remote chance that he grabbed the girl the glaziers will not say a word publicly and they will abide by the suspension which will most likely be six games not the previously suggested three

  4. Tampabaybucfan Says:

For those of you who are familiar with my posts….you know that I have neither condemned Jameis or tried to exonerate him. I simply am interested in what needs to happen for Jameis to redeem himself and stay our QB…and eventually win back most of the fans he has lost.

I would really like to handle his PR….and he needs some good advice.

    I would not:

Use the President did it excuse.
I am young and was horny excuse.
I was drunk and unruly excuse.
Ronald and Brandon made me do it excuse.
I am black and there is racial injustice excuse.

Here is what I would advise if he did it.

I was wrong to touch her in the way I did… I sincerely apologize for that. It was and is inappropriate no matter what the circumstance.
I also apologize to the NFL, Bucs my teammates and fans for being deceptive about what I did. There is no excuse for that dishonesty. I am grateful for the opportunity the Bucs gave me and I let them down. I sincerely hope that I will be given a chance to continue to be their Quarterback.

Here is what I advise if he didn’t do it.

I maintain that I am innocent of the allegation of unwanted touching (groping) the Uber driver. Since I was alone, there was no way that I could prove that it didn’t happen so I lied about the circumstances to protect myself. I felt that because of past allegations nobody would believe my side of the story. That was the wrong way to proceed. I sincerely apologize to the NFL, Bucs, teammates and fans for that dishonesty. I sincerely hope that I will be given a chance to continue to be their Quarterback

If Winston proceeds this way….he can live to fumble another day.

  5. RustyRhinos Says:

I wonder if the Glazers have had a sit down talk with Mr. Winston. He stated that there where three people in the car and he was in the backseat. Now the reports are that there was another Uber ride with Mr. Winston alone. After a night out at a drinking establishment, where the face of our business had to be sent away because he was drunk and unruly. And this was when this incident took place. How well will it go over to the OWNERS of the business that Mr. Winston works for that he has mislead them, I am not sure as a owner of a business that I would want to invest 100+ Million dollars into a employee who has put themselves and their business in such a bright shady light.

  6. mike10 Says:

Going into this, if he got a suspension, 1 game was fair.

Every other polarizing case had some piece of overwhelming conviction.

Rothlisberger had a video showing him going into the bathroom w the girl, Ray Rice had the fight club video, Brady obstructed justice by destroying his phone, and Zeke had a beat up girl w injuries.

There isn’t a shred of evidence suggesting this happened, other than Jameis was in the car… without proof, you can’t suspend this guy for 3 games.

  7. Bird Says:

    Buc realist

That comment on oline and Joe’s his hilarious. Well I should say the one joe. And spot on.

  8. DM Says:

They can and they will – the NFL investigation is not a court of law – nor are they bound to any law.

  9. The Buc Realist Says:

    @Tampabaybucfan

Since you want to handle the “PR” and rehabilitate his image!!!! Will you also negotiate a monetary settlement to the victim?????? Or will you just use the frame work from the last settlement?????? Are you sure their is no audio evidence??????? You will have to make sure that is all destroyed!!!!!!! From what has been learned, Uber is very reluctant to cancel an account without some form of proof or evidence of wrong doing!!!!!! And more than likely if the evidence was obtained by the NFL league office, ( maybe another reason their was a report of no appeal of whatever suspension is handed down!!!!!!!!

  10. MJB Says:

Even if Bucs have done their own internal investigation, they still need to wait and see what the NFL office investigation is. NFL teams don’t place penalties on themselves like the NCAA Joe! They are at the whims of the Commissioner.

  11. JohnLynchBrokeMyBody47 Says:

Goodell has to be objective while we’re all subjective about OUR teams (AKA = Tribalism)…that’s the issue. Either way…isn’t it ironic (don’t ya think) that a “shield” needs protection considering that is exactly what a shield is intended to do…provide protection?! The “shield” has come down with a case of vaginitis, if you ask me. All apologies to those who might have been offended by that classification.

  12. destinjohnny Says:

The glazers know they can get Winston cheaper now on a long term deal.

  13. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

The Glazer Boys are so secretive…Who says they DIDN’T launch their own investigation?

  14. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @ realist

It doesn’t matter what the evidence is or not…..Jameis knows the truth and he should speak the truth either way…..

Now, as far as a monetary “gift” to the Driver…..no…..she hasn’t and can no longer file a civil suit….she is barred by the 2-year Arizona statute….I would not offer any money…..that would be an admission that you believe she was mentally harmed beyond that moment and there is no evidence of that.
That would be what a suit would resolve.

  15. Frank Pillow Says:

They will not cause waves with the league- at least not publicly. It’s not their M.O.

  16. JabooBuc Says:

Mike10: what you do have now is confirmation that JW lied about being in the car alone. Doesn’t mean he groped her but it looks bad.

  17. BigHogHaynes Says:

We now know the realist was not a fan of JW3 ….they’ve turned on you JW!!

  18. Tampabaybucfan Says:

It will be interesting to see how the Team plays it…..but it will be Jameis’ responsibility to redeem himself if warranted. Only Jameis can win back lost fans.

  19. Seminole Bill Says:

It’s time for Buc’s fans to take a deep breath and put this whole mess behind us. Our QB for training camp, the preseason and the first three games is Fitz, and it would be ridiculous for us to expect Fitz to win games on his own (as we all have expected of Jameis). The running game and the defense MUST step forward and perform. No excuses.

  20. Bobby M. Says:

I hope everything comes out….including audio/video if there happens to be any.

  21. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I am hoping that the suspension is for not reporting and deception involving the investigation……Jameis could claim that he was so drunk he has no idea if he did or didn’t grope the driver……some wouldn’t buy that….but if they have been as drunk as I have on occasion the would realize that it is possible.

Drunkenness is no excuse for the behavior but it can be an excuse for lack of memory.

  22. T REX Says:

The Glazers are worthless. They are top 3 WORST owners in the NFL. They have made a mess of the front office and OBP. Until they bring an actual football person to run the org…we will suck. They are garbage as owners. We refuse to give them another dime and we know a lot of folks not renewing their seats.

    Sell the team please.

  23. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Man, this filter is stopping 90% of my posts at this point…

  24. TpaBayFlyFisher Says:

The Bucs’ ownership and management knew what they were drafting. They showed that to them morals meant nothing. They deserve the fans’ rage, the loss of customers, loss of TV ratings. I have not watched a game since they sold their souls. I have found that Sunday afternoons are actually very pleasant fishing, playing tennis, or just spending time with friends. I no longer suffer when they lose, which they do almost as often as the league’s poorest teams. Enjoy yourselves folks, root for a bunch of thugs who think they are above the law. I choose a different path.

  25. BigMacAttack Says:

This is so much bs, that happened so long ago. Accusations and allegations is all you need to ruin someone’s career these days. Roger Goodell sucks and I can’t believe they renewed his contract. He should have been dumped long ago. Whatever

  26. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I see a lot of people creating new usernames so they won’t be held accountable for their words here, lol.

  27. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Bonzai…..happening to lots of us…

What is going to hurt Jameis going forward is the third passenger Brandon Banks.

It’s going to be difficult for him to explain hanging out with a convicted r@pist.

Banks was awaiting trial on a 2013 r@pe charge and was convicted in August of 2017…..3 months before the Buzzfeed exposure…..It’s no wonder Jameis didn’t want to expose the 3rd passenger…..and I doubt we see a “Stay away from Brandon” article from Joe….after all…..he is locked up now for 15 years.

  28. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Two PR nightmare words going forward for Jameis…..Brandon Banks

  29. The Buc Realist Says:

    @TampaBayBucFan

Not true!!!!! There are no time limits on if Jw3 and the team of lawyers reach a settlement to keep Uber Kate from doing any interviews and media!!!!!!!!

I am waiting for you to use the “woman should not be in the work place anyway ” excuse!!!!!!!!! or will you save that for the third “known” time??????

  30. jmarkbuc Says:

So far what we think we know is that he lied about who was in the car, not good. Leads you to believe what she said was true. Otherwise he would have come out in the beginning and said “yes I was in the car alone, and no I didn’t touch her.

The real kicker would be audio/video evidence… although if there was I think it would have leaked by now, and three game suspension wouldn’t be on the table.

I think the league just believes Kate, rightly so. But all they have to hang there hat on is failure to report.

  31. Trench War Says:

Who’s to say the Glazers didn’t do their own investigation? Maybe this is why they have remained silent to this point, and they’re waiting to compare notes with Goodell’s investigation before they make a public statement.

  32. jmarkbuc Says:

As this Sunday draws to a close, I find myself totally fatigued with Jameis Winston: CSI Arizona

Time to move on to who the third QB will be to start the season, and to rally around Fitz.

When the NFL report comes out hopefully we can get some clarity, and we can parse the language of it.

    Until then
    Go Fitz and Go BUCS!

  33. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @ Realist

Sure, Kate could do interviews……but I doubt she will….if there is no absolute proof of the offense she runs a huge risk. I doubt Jameis’ team will try to hush her…..
Hell, the other alleged victim did a movie….and she still got paid.

If Jameis tells the truth….the will be little interest in what she has to say….she has already made the claim….and she doesn’t appear to want any money. She certainly could have reached some sort of settlement by now if she wanted.

  34. Cobraboy Says:

I suspect the Glazers will be OK with a short suspension to save several tens of millions of dollars in future guaranteed QB salaries.

  35. Knoxville Buc Says:

Why would you care enough about a team to appear on a blog that you don’t even watch anymore? Shouldn’t you be fly fishing somewhere

  36. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    This is a re-post….many haven’t seen….Just for $hits & giggles….

Let’s try to look at some positives:

    1. No more “America’s QB” (well, actually not)
    2. Ryan Griffin becomes relevant (at least for 3 games)
    3. If we resign Winston….we get a cheaper contract (good for the cap)
    4. Fewer anti-GMC posts
    5. Jameis may have to calm down a bit (good thing)
    6. Rest of the team will need to step up.
    7. Opponents may be overconfident.
    8. They are talking about the Bucs
    9. Something interesting to discuss before camp (usually boring)
10 Fewer articles on Michael Bennett….Roberto Aguayo & Aqib Talib.
    11. This perhaps makes the VH3 pick look better.
    12. We may somehow finally get a compensatory pick from the NFL
    13. Bucs will have additional jersey sales (someone other than 3)
    14. Gator/Nole rivalry stoked.
    15. Brandon Banks has stories to tell his inmates.

  37. Cobraboy Says:

We were lucky back in The Day.

We had the Drunken One Free Grope rule.

  38. mark2001 Says:

Not disclosing it and lying to the Commish about the drivers in the car? Yeah…three games. And you think the Glazers will beef about that? I doubt it. I expect something like this…

We don’t believe the outcome of the investigation and resulting suspension is just…but in the desire to help our organization, team, and Jameis get this behind him, we will accept the decision of the commissioner and work with Jameis, who we believe will be the franchise QB of this organization for years to come.

And after that, if he plays great and gets help, it may end up being ancient history ten years from now. But if not, and Koetter an Licht are fired, all bets are off.

  39. Buccfan37 Says:

Football is more fun without the soap opera thrown in. Like sand through the Bucs hourglass, so are the Bucs days of our lives.

  40. mark2001 Says:

BF37…More like the lost and the desperate…

  41. SB Says:

Guys……..It is ALL about him lying and attempting to cover the situation. The NFL has apparently Nailed him due to forensic phone evidence. If you guys can’t see this is the real problem I don’t know how to help you. Jameis did himself in when he didn’t get ahead of the situation directly after Uber notified him why his account was suspended.
It isn’t the “Alleged” crime, it is about how he handled it. He handled it like a guilty and deceptive person. He lied to the public, the team, And the League if he was in the car alone with her.

  42. Fire the glazers Says:

    Mike10
The proof is in the LIE…
He and Ronald Darby both lied, by omitting the truth…
    Now, their word is untrustworthy.
They got caught lying… plain and simple.
That’s the reason for the suspension.
And it now brings up his past accusations into question as well…

  43. Trench War Says:

If he lied only because he had no proof then it’s the lie that will do him in.

Sometimes, like the proverbial phrase says, “honesty is the best policy”!!!

  44. Dewey Selmon Says:

Suspend him for game 4, sends a message to the fans (especially female fans) that they will not tolerate that behavior.

  45. EA Says:

Of course ownership knew about the suspension that’s why they retained the coaching staff for another season, hopefully Belicheat falls on their lap next year.

  46. Knoxville Buc Says:

I DID NOT HAVE SEXUAL RELATIONS WITH THAT WOMAN. All addicts lie, sexual addicts included. They all need some intense therapy to overcome such a problem. We can only hope JW seeks out help before is suspension is over and doesn’t come back with carpal tunnel on his throwing hand.

  47. jmarkbuc Says:

The guilt or innocence is moot now. All that remains is the clean up.

Think of all the QB’s that have come through this joint. I’d say Buc fans are uniquely prepared to deal with the lack of one. We’ve been there and done that.

We weren’t winning with JW, who knows what will happen with out him, couldn’t get a whole lot worse. I am not afraid.

    Play Fierce Defense
    Have outstanding special teams
Use a QB who is good enough to not get you beat
Hope Dirk actually coaches his ass off

Relax people, see we got plenty other things to worry about.

  48. Eric Says:

America’s dirt bag! Pro bowl groper, all before the age of 24!

  49. DalvinCookRules Says:

    Knoxville,

Are you a clinical psychologist now? How do you know Winston is a “sex addict”? How many women has he had sex with, please do tell? There is no way to prove he is or isn’t a sex addict without a larger body of evidence, but I do agree with you that he needs some kind of “therapy”. He seems to act quite impulsively at times, both on and off the field, and whether it’s blowing up crazily on the field, forcing a pass into triple coverage, jumping on a table & shouting a meme, getting crazy at a club & mischievously grabbing a random woman’s crotch, they all have a common thread.

  50. Kobe Faker Says:

The NFL and Goodell has given the Glazer boys the superbowl next year…they are pi$$ed they did…..Glazers will do whatever NFL wants them to do

Even if Jameis is still here for the rest of 2018, there will be a QB drafted high in next years draft…

“There will be a backup plan”

    Kobe Faker

  51. BrianBucs Says:

Winston isn’t going anywhere as long as Licht is the GM here. He based his entire job with the Bucs on the Winston pick and has done everything he could to make him successful and the face of this franchise. On the other hand, Licht is on the hook for all of Winston’s antics, transgressions, failures, humiliations and embarrassments both on and off of the field.
The Bucs and their PR department are in full damage control mode now and are formulating their strategy to re-sell Winston to what will be left of their fanbase, their corporate sponsors and advertisers.
It will be very interesting to see their game plan and hear what they will tell their coaches, management, their media mouthpieces and Winston himself to say. The amount of spin will make us all dizzy

  52. Defense Rules Says:

@Realist … “So not that joe has thrown out bread crumbs for doubt in every direction, except how JW3 only has himself to blame!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” Now THAT’S worthy of a re-post Realist. Spot on.

@Trench War … “Who’s to say the Glazers didn’t do their own investigation?” Concur 100%, and I’m convinced that they did in fact do their own (wouldn’t you if you had billions at stake?). Just because they didn’t share the results with Joe & the rest of the media doesn’t mean they’ve been totally passive.

@Cobraboy … “I suspect the Glazers will be OK with a short suspension to save several tens of millions of dollars in future guaranteed QB salaries.” I suspect you’re exactly right Cobraboy. When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.

@Bonzai … “Man, this filter is stopping 90% of my posts at this point.” Stopping maybe 10% of mine Bonzai, but what’s really strange is that they just flat-out disappear … no warning, nada. Sometimes though they show up several hours later IF I go back & check.

  53. Alanbucsfan Says:

    Please, perspective is needed…
Jameis is paying the penalty for using poor judgment and behaving badly, but not criminally. The Bucs can support the NFL and Jameis by supporting the penalty and providing Jameis with alcohol counseling and personal choice management. Jameis should be aware his career is in jeopardy if there are future issues…
As for the Uber driver: She took a job picking up strangers coming out of bars in the middle of the night…not excusing Jameis’ behavior- he should know better considering his public position, but what did she think was possibly going to happen with the clientele she was engaging?
    Tale of 2 dummies…

  54. Capt.Tim Says:

I’m certain the Glazers did do an investigation of their own.
And, Like the NFL, found out that Jameis and Ronald Darby were lying. That they created this entire alibi.

Thats why they are being silent

  55. BringBucsBack Says:

The Bucs better have conducted their own investigation!

If the suspension is for more than one game and anything other than failure to report, the Bucs should FORCE J-miss to appeal! If he does, he can exonerate himself and regain trust with the fan base (contract money be damned!), once again OR the results of an investigation will confirm his guilt. If he does not appeal then, he has admitted guilt and the Bucs can bring in his permanent replacement!

This incident has and will continue to alienate too many fans to keep him around if this allegation is true. There are just too many KNOWN incidences in his past, whether real or imagined. I, and others, don’t want to have to read through hundreds of pages of records and “official” reports just to justify rooting for a quarterback on my favorite team!? As fans we should not have to try that hard!

I and others on this side where jeered when we suggested that the Bucs strongly consider bringing in a new quarterback this off-season! I wish I had been wrong! I am waiting for the NFL’s report.

Where is the NFL and when are they going to talk?

  56. VeeJay24 Says:

Hmm, So the Glazers will cut their QB but hold a fundraiser for Trump. I can see the headlines now. A media member’s dream

  57. TpaBayFlyFisher Says:

Knoxville Buc, I posted here because I am friends with one of the site owners and I wanted to speak for the people of Tampa Bay who are simply voting with their money.

Oh how did today’s news strike you? JW is a punk who thinks the law does not apply to him and that every woman on Earth wants him to lay on top of her……
