Keyshawn: “There’s Something Wrong Mentally”

June 25th, 2018

Keyshawn talks Jameis

Outspoken ex-Bucs receiver Keyshawn Johnson coached America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, in a high school all-star game years ago and the two have had friendly dealings since.

So Joe was curious to hear what Johnson had to say about Jameis now.

Thankfully, Johnson has a sports radio show in Los Angeles.

“When I saw [the Jameis report] I thought, ‘Man, you just can’t stay out of trouble.’ And there’s something, and I’m not a doctor, nor do I plan on being, but there’s something wrong with you,” Johnson said on KSPN-AM 710. “If this is in fact true, the fact that you keep coming up with some type of sexual behavioral problems towards women, there’s something wrong mentally. I don’t care what anyone says. There’s something wrong.”

Johnson doesn’t think Jameis will be booted by the Bucs this season but he’s absolutely convinced they will open the season 0-3 without Jameis.

Johnson said he’s concerned that Jameis must avoid any kind of trouble — or perception of trouble — immediately or his career will be over because the teams will want nothing to do with him.

“Eventually, [the NFL is] going to lock him out,” Johnson fears.

Hey Joe, what happens when fitz goes 2-1 in the first three games? Do you keep the hot hand?
Absolutely! If Fitz beats the Steelers on Monday Night Football to go 2-1, then he deserves the rock in Week 4. –Joe

  2. Pete I Says:

Not sure 0-3 wasn’t a possibility with Jameis, with Fitz? Who knows. there won’t be 3 turnovers per game by Fitz. And Fitz sucks!

  3. DB55 Says:

Wow! Joe you are literally making me cry rn. Not of sadness but pure hilarity. LT AND Keyshawn? Lol, who next Big Ben, Ray Lewis and Ray Rice?!?!?

Reality is Jameis a church mouse compared to these dudes, imagine if they had cell phones and social media in their day. Oh if only the walls could talk.

But for the dumb yuks who blindly eat up all the red meat this is great! Keep up the good work my friend.

  4. DB55 Says:

You guys really are dumb! You guys really think Fitz can play? You obviously don’t watch tape. Here’s a hint he’s on his 7th team in 12 years. Joe keep going and soon these schumks will be calling for clean cut no-trouble mark Sanchez to come lead us to the promises land.

  5. SB Says:

KJ is right. It is a sense of entitlement! He has been coddled his whole life because he is a top notch athlete. He has always been able to fall into sh!t and come out smelling like a rose. Why stop now?

  6. SB Says:

No thank DB. No butt fumbles here thank you 🙂

  7. fritz50 Says:

“Oh if only the walls could talk.“

In Rice’s case the wall literally did speak, with a video from the elevator…LOL

  8. Kobe Faker Says:

How ironic but the Glazers will do a “Keyshawn Johnson”…Pay JW3 to sit home after the suspension for the rest of the 2018 season

“2018 season is finished for JW3. The extreme negative press nationwide will be too much for the NFL and the Glazers to allow JW3 on the field during the 2018 season”

Thanks for pointing out the fine backgrounds of these fools calling jameis out. Maybe joe can get Michael Irvin’s take too. Maybe Michael can demonstrate the correct use of a crack pipe while in the company of fine arse strippers after his jameis breakdown

  10. AlteredEgo Says:

In the interest of putting the best product on the field the NFL needs to do something creative with the QB position, like not counting up to 3 QB’s against the 53 and allow teams to carry and develop QB’s ready to step in for the starter. We have a really old vet back up that knows the game inside and out but is limited in ability then things drop off the cliff with a no name 3rd QB

  11. Jaywill Says:

Too say Winston grew up entitled is far from the truth and you must no nothing about his background. He comes from a great two parent home. He didn’t just excel in sports, he made good grades through out his life. He made all A’s until his first B in 10th grade. People try to make it seem like some entitled dumb jock…People cant just wait for the facts to come out before calling this dude dumb, a liar, or sexual predator. Athletes are always perceived as guilty first. Even if found innocent its perceived they just got off.

  12. Bucsfanman Says:

    I can’t stand Keyshawn!
Don’t forget the video that was erased “accidentally” in the Big Ben case, allegedly!
What gets me is the sheer ignorance of some of the “newer” generations. They take video of everything! They can’t even put their phones down to watch a concert!

  13. Jaywill Says:

Wait for facts before making assumptions.

  14. Jaywill Says:

They would suspend him for PR reasons even if things point to his innocence just like Elliott. When they went against their own investigators recommendation last year lets me know its not about truth its more about PR.

  15. BrianBucs Says:

So Winston goes to a bar with two very shady friends, gets very drunk and unruly, the bar employees ask him to leave, gets in an Uber, yells obscenities out the window, then gropes an Uber driver. This happens one week after he and his fiance get baptised. The man does really have some mental problems and bad character. He’s a total fraud and phony.
Face of a Franchise? NO WAY

  16. thegregwitul Says:

A couple quick comments regarding the last few days:

    1. I really hope the NFL confirms the suspension soon and ideally provides a little more clarity as to their findings. Normally I’d say the NFL didn’t uncover anything damning on Winston (video, etc) but who knows. This is the same NFL that had video of Ray Rice knocking his wife out, and they only gave him a couple games, however, I’m hoping with the Zeke debacle behind the league, the NFL has modified their approach. I won’t hold my breath on that, though.

    2. This is 2018, and we live in a world of quick reaction and hysteria. This isn’t excluding the scenarios that Winston has put himself into, as that falls squarely on him, but in terms of Winston not playing at all or being let go after the season, I don’t see it happening, unless new evidence comes to light proving without a shadow of a doubt that Winston sexually assulated the Uber driver. Once the NFL announces their findings, and if it doesn’t include some kind of smoking gun, the mainstream media likely moves on to something else and this becomes an issue that continues to be debated by the fan base.

    3. I love the work done on this website, even if I don’t always agree with the viewpoints by Joe(s). I also love the podcasts, it keeps the fan base connected all season and off season. I do not like Winston being referred to as America’s QB, it’s just cringe worthy and really is embarrassing, especially when viewed outside the general fan base. I’m sorry, but America’s anything would get far more positive attention and would be accessible to those outside the Tampa area on television, prime time games, advertisements, etc. He wouldn’t be mocked for ‘eating W’s’ and only mentioned to those outside of Florida when he does something stupid. That isn’t America’s QB, I’m sorry.

Right now, Jameis Winston, like it or not, is a toxic individual to many because he (not Ronald Darby) placed himself in some really stupid situations. The only plus is that this didn’t happen last November, and from what we know, Winston has been focused on his job and has kept out of trouble since. But still, I need more maturity from my team’s starting QB, and less cornball behavior.

I hope he proves the haters and doubters wrong, but as of today, he’s behind the 8-ball.

  17. 813bucboi Says:

he does need help……he has a problem….poor judgment…drinking…sexual behavior…..not a good look….you are who you hang around….hope he gets a better crowd to hang with….better yet, just hang with your wife and baby….

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!….#PRESSURESONTHECOACHES!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!

  18. Radman Says:

Either Winston is very immature, or he has a problem. Immaturity can change, problems don’t.

  19. Wausa Says:

Bucs will not go 2-1 in the first three games.
I would be surprised if the Bucs were within ten points of their opponent at the end of any of the first three games.

Even if Jamies plays well when he gets back I doubt the delicate team psyche will recover from getting blown out in the first three games to start the season.

Bet the under on win total for the Bucs this year.
On the bright side the Bucs will have a great shot at drafting Nick Bosa next year.

  20. Jff Says:

Jawill im not saying Jameis is dumb but that he is a liar and a narcissistic sociopath.

  21. Kobe Faker Says:

the accusation occurred 2 years ago HOWEVER…

the lies to Glazers, Licht bulb and all of the tampa fanbase occurred few weeks ago

On the Podium JW3 clearely lied to all that Kate was wrong and He did nothing wrong

JW3 EVEN FEW WEEKS AGO didnt tell the Glazers and Lichtbulb about the 2nd uber ride alone

Glazers, Licht bulb and the Bucs pr department is not that stupid enough to allow JW3 to make that statement on the podium if they knew about the 2nd uber ride and brandon banks. NO WAY

*Yes, JW3 needs mental help. He is so dilutional,he actually believes he can keep it a secret and not get caught with these childish lies

  22. Lamarcus Says:

I’m just sitting here waiting on the NFL report like….. 🤔🤔

  23. Bucnjim Says:

Such a fine line now as to what is acceptable when it comes to flirting and hitting on women. Did he put his hand on her leg or actually grab her? Probably not a good idea to hit on a complete stranger but there is that line. Very few guys here who haven’t used everything in their arsenal to advance with a woman.

  24. Pa Privateer Says:

    Blah Blah Blah.

If you didn’t like Winston before he was drafted you want him cut now.

I have yet to hear any evidence of anything and when the report comes out from the NFL it will be so dang slanted that people will think he should do 50 years in prison.

This is Goodell so Pete’s sake!!! He would suspend a Ham Sandwich for not being served with a pickle on the side

We have a decent QB FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!! and you idiots want to agree with the crappy wr nicknamed ME-SHAWN……

  25. SB Says:

Jaywill…………. He is Very much entitled. I followed his career and trouble at FSU very closely. Because of his position there he was allowed out of trouble that the normal student never would have gotten away with. In fact there were Several articles about how athletes were getting away with stuff where police would turn a blind eye when things would happen. If you are turning a blind eye to this then I don’t know what to say. If I were to have done the BB gun incident I would have been charged fully. If I would have stolen the crab legs I would been charged fully. If my dna was found in Erica I would be in prison right now.
Bottom line is he is used to being able to get out of trouble easier than others.
    That is entitlement.

  26. Bucnjim Says:

Also really believe this all could have been handled last year by simply admitting he was extremely drunk and it isn’t clear what exactly happened. Taken what the NFL handed him and moved on to this year. If his attorney told him to let it play out fire him immediately!

  27. LongSeason Says:

I don’t care if we go 0-16. Just say no to Jameis. He is an unstable immature cancer to the team, to the league and to the fans. Worse of all he is a threat to all women. Boot him now. Having nobody is better than having Jameis.

  28. Bucnjim Says:

Have met Winston a handful of times and does not seem to be entitled at all just the opposite kind of humble. He was completely sober every time though.

  29. Bucsfanman Says:

Oh, the life of a Bucs fan!!!

The wheels on the bus go ’round and ’round, ’round and ’round……

Jameis could very well be innocent, “could.” However, just the sheer fact that he even knows Banks makes my skin crawl a little. “You’re only as good as the company you keep.” That, my friend, is the worst company.

    I STILL hate Keyshawn!

  30. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Joe, what is happening to our posts….I know it’s not just me….they don’t go to moderation…..they don’t go anywhere….when I repost I get t duplicate post message so I know it went through partially.

Confident that will be the first step into resolving all software bugs.

  34. SC Bucs Fan Says:

While I can’t understand why it took so long to resolve this, I really can’t understand why its taking so long to release the report. And I really, really can’t believe there is no word from the JW PR machine.

  35. University of Seffner Says:

Keshawn Johnson has a bit of Warren Sapp’s attitude off the field. He was a good player, but wasn’t a great teammate when he was here in Tampa. So for him to come after Jameis Winston’s behavior, he certainly can have and speak his opinion, but Keshawn himself is not squeaky clean off the field (He was arrested for Domestic Violence). He’s a very arrogant person to say the least.

  36. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Sure…will send my resume….I’m known as “America’s Software Expert”….

  37. BucFan4Life Says:

Winston is a 23 year old. That pretty much says it all. His main problem is lack of maturity. That and he lacks a dumb dumb filter. No idea if he’ll grow out of this phase. Hope so.

Keyshawn, man I don’t care one whit what that dipstick has to say. He got his money. Now he needs to go away.

    @Kobe Faker

When was it confirmed that there was a second uber ride. An attorney who is representing someone convicted of rape who was supposedly in the car, who could be trying deflect allegations away from his client, is not an official confirmation. Secondly we shouldn’t be so hasty to judge before the official facts come out we still don’t know how many games or what the suspension is for. Obviously there is a hatred for Jameis that many where holding back but now feel emboldened to release it though we still don’t have the facts. If we find out beyond shadow of a doubt he is guilty then by all means he deserves all the ire, but what if there is no evidence of any wrong doing? Then what? Are you still going to hate him? probably. Are you gonna apologize for your hateful words? I doubt it.I actually read someone say why would a woman lie about this, well type “False rape claims” in google and you will see how many have lied. Just recently a woman got sentenced to 1 year and 3 years of probation for lying about two athletes she claimed raped her. they lost everything because of the accusation. Turns out she had consensual sex with them and was scared the guy she liked would find out so she claimed rape to protect her dirty little secret from him. She was willing to ruin 2 guys lives to get what she wanted when they in fact did nothing wrong, so don’t be so quick to paint this uber driver as a victim until we know the facts.

  40. Wausa Says:

I am a former athlete at Florida State and to say athletes at Florida State are given preferential treatment by the DA in Tallahassee is not true. The DA in Tallahassee has tried to make a name for himself by being tough on Florida State athletes and we are told that by our coaches.

If Jamies is assaulting women and it can be proven he should be gone. If he is lying then he should be suspended. The Bucs will have to make the decision on if his talent is worth the headaches he has brought the organization regarding this allegation.
However, he has never been convicted, arrested or tried in any crime.

I have no doubt he has made idiotic and immature decisions. He, for whatever reason, has never seemed to understand that everything he does is going to be micro-analyzed.

Again, if there is evidence enough to convict him of sexual assault or plain assault then I hope he never plays another down in the NFL, but as of June 25, 2018 no DA has even pressed charges against him.

Rather than be presumed guilty of a crime I would hope myself and any of you would be given the presumption of innocence unless convicted in a court of law.

  41. Lord Cornelius Says:

Given what we’re learning now it’s hard not to conclude otherwise unless some more info comes out…

If he truly lied to the organization / the NFL and hid the fact that he was drunk and was kicked out of a club and that there was another uber ride where he truly was alone with the driver then how can you defend or trust that going forward?

And also – how the hell is that only a 3 game suspension if that’s the case? Withholding info is one thing but lying is another.

And how could you do something like this knowing the baggage you already carried?

The FSU allegation never caught him in any lie. He told the same exact story every time and it lined up with every piece of physical evidence that could possibly be collected. The accuser on the other hand indisputably lied without question multiple times – as her own stories didn’t reconcile with one another and completely changed/contradicted themselves at times. She objectively was caught in multiple lies based on physical evidence or contradictory stories.

That’s why I never believed he raped anyone and wasn’t really worried about his behavior going forward. And everyone that ever knew him said he was a great person basically. Hell he has done a sh1t load of charity since joining the NFL. If not for this incident he’s basically had 3 years of being a model citizen.

Sh1t’s just f*cked up man. You don’t grab a f*cking driver’s crotch just sit in the car and go where you’re supposed to go. And wtf are you doing out partying late? Don’t you have a girlfriend and all that aforementioned baggage from FSU?

  42. Ed Kerber Says:

This just in— Rae Carruth thinks Jameis makes bad decisions off and on the field.

  43. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I don’t know Jameis Winston and I’m not a Psychologist or Psychiatrist….Keyshawn knows him but I don’t think he is either of those….

I will say this….it doesn’t take anything more than simple common sense to know that Jameis’ judgement is impaired. His choice of drinking buddies is a good example…..Darby is one thing but Brandon Banks is another matter..

    I mean….a convicted r@pist…..

Now we can expand on the saying….nothing good happens after midnight while drinking too much with a convicted r@pist.

(yes, I know he was pending trial at the time)…..but C’mon Man.

  44. Bobby M. Says:

I think the point these athletes are making…without actually saying it….is Winston can literally get all the booty he wants by just showing up. Why do you think Bucs players loved Blue Martini at International?

For a guy that shouldn’t even have to try, how is it he keeps getting into these situations of accusations when literally every pro athlete in every sport right now can bang countless females and not have the issues he’s having. News flash…Winston isn’t the biggest star in the sky folks….There’s guys with much bigger profiles, worth 100x more then Mr America’s QB. Tiger Woods had 100 affairs with anything and everything that was walking….Tiger Woods is a WAAAAY bigger target then Winston….Not a single accusation. This whole idea that all the gold diggers on earth are only going after Jameis is ridiculous.

  45. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @Bobby M

It’s not about having what you want without trying…..it’s about power over those who don’t want you.

  46. Joel Says:

You know your QB is an idiot when LT and MeShawn are chiming in. Ugh.

  47. AlteredEgo Says:

The only fact I know of….we are talking about this….it has occurred to me that if the NFL gives Jameis 3 game suspension…the G’Boyz may give another 3 games….

  48. Eric Says:

Fitz can’t play in a way that will get us anywhere.

However, that being said if that report outlines some scheme Jameis and the boys had to try and cover this up, I’m through with the guy. Sort of sounds that way from the cell phone data.

On the verge already of being through and only a very inconclusive report that states the primary reason is the lack of reporting might get me to change my thinking.

Basically, it takes all the fun out of following the team. A dark cloud just like when FSU won the Title. Wasn’t as glorious as it could have been as an FSU fan.

  49. firethecannons Says:

JW needs a bodyguard going forward to keep him out of trouble and provide witness until he is no longer a Buc. It cannot be optional-has to be 24/7, the guard reports to Bucs management.Tell me how that wouldn’t work you JW haters.

You’re tripping. 2-1 as the starter last year. All i care about is wins. Not how many teams he has played for. I’m a jameis fan but I dont mind Fitz in there one bit. And if he wins games keep him in there.

  53. BrianBucs Says:

Rather than having mental issues or problems, Winston could just have an extreme amount of arrogance and a huge sense of entitlement, you know the “I am King” syndrome. You have to remember that his favorite saying is “Lions are not concerned with the opinions of sheep”

  54. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    DB55

  55. Tampabaybucfan Says:

DB55 Google Brandon Banks Prison……takes 10 seconds not 20 min

  56. Tony LA Says:

Koetter and Licht are fighting for their jobs and careers. How many coaches have put those jobs in Fitz’ hands over the years? Where are those idiots now?

    Hint: fired long ago

I love Fitz as a back up. But this is not a situation where you rely on the backup. This is a moment well before training camp where we know the starter will be out for at least 3 games (I don’t think the NFL had the info from the 3rd rider when the news of 3 games was leaked – my bet is they are re-investigating that and we can expect MORE).

Go get one of the available starter level guys and have them do battle with Fitz. A guy who can throughly threaten Jameis’ job. Joe can mock Foles all he wants – but Foles has a damn Super Bowl MVP trophy and went toe to toe against Brady (who had his best ever Super Bowl game statistically) and beat him. That was NOT the defense that won that Super Bowl. Foles has also had a better full NFL season than Jameis has ever sniffed at.

Challenge Jameis – for REAL. Make him play for his life when he returns. Guarantee him nothing. And NEVER let someone like Ryan Griffin be one injury away from taking meaningful snaps. That’s what bottom feeder franchises do.

  57. AlteredEgo Says:

I don’t think the G’Boyz will hold Koetter and or Licht accountable for Jameis’s troubles…they have finally a roster to work with….until Jameis took himself out of the equation…need a better QB on the roster in 2018 than Fitz….I’d bring in Josh Freeman or Johnny Manziel for a look see….

  58. DBS Says:

Bucs and exBucs keep making news. So now McCants gets arrested. What highlights this team’s name always provides to the NFL.

  64. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Many are suggesting that Jameis have a bodyguard/chaperone to shadow his every move…
As a matter of fact, I suggested this in several posts during the draft debate.

It wasn’t so much to keep an eye on Jameis as it was to provide a witness to discount false accusations that may come forward…

Jameis, because of the College incident as a multi-millionaire would be an easy target if he were ever alone with a female other than his girlfriend…..

If his “friends” had any sense (don’t believe they do) they would have insisted on a male driver for the “intoxicated/unruly” Jameis.

    DB55

    Wanna bet!!!

  82. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    DB55

Chill out?……you can’t find one post where I have deemed Winston guilty of anything but poor judgement….perhaps deception…..but as to the original charges….no way.

FYI….I like you too…but not in that sort of way.

  83. Bucsfanman Says:

DP- You need to up your beer game! Mickey’s is where its at!

  84. Dave Pear Says:

  89. Not there yet Says:

It looks really bad when guys like LT and meshawn Johnson are talking about you and also really odd we’ve heard nothing from Sapp or Derrick Brooks…. Brooks wants to call himself his mentor right up until he does something stupid

  93. Dave Pear Says:

    I’ll be over later.

  94. DB55 Says:

Truth be told, the night I met Joe at the draft party I was double fisting Stella Artois IN the chalice so…… I hate the chalice but I was at a fancy event and mingling with VIPs so…..

  95. DB55 Says:

And this is why I luv jbf

  96. Dave Pear Says:

    DB55,

Truth be told, the night I met Joe at the draft party I was double fisting Stella Artois IN the chalice
    ———————————————————————–

Uh Oh. You were “double fisting Stella Artois?”
I hate to tell you Bro, but that is a heck of a lot worse than groping.

  97. Dave Pear Says:

And I don’t know where the chalice is but it don’t sound good.
    I’d lawyer up.

  98. ATrain Says:

    Ok question??

How do the Glazers now invest millions of dollars in Winston with the chance he does something like this again where he is out for 6-8 weeks or worse

Everyone talks about standing behind him or not believing

But this isn’t the first time and a lot of time was spent trying to keep him out of trouble

Fact is He did something and LIED ABOUT IT TO COVER UP

  99. Dave Pear Says:

    ATrain,
Fact is He did something and LIED ABOUT IT TO COVER UP
    ——————————————————————————

    Why is this a fact?
    Because you say it is?
Where did you get the information from?
I have not heard that he is guilty of lying.

  100. Skipper Says:

Banks attorney is going to point the finger anywhere but at his already convicted client. I will wait for judgement on Winston when all FACTS are presented and not speculation. My best guess is there is no concrete evidence against Winston, if Winston is indeed suspended I predict a civil suite filed by the Uber driver looking for a big dollar settlement. Most likely the intention from the beginning since she acquired the same attorney that the FSU woman won a civil suite with against Winston.

  101. Skipper Says:

Additionally I predict that the civil suite will be launched after Winston picks up his 20 million a year option.

  102. Buccfan37 Says:

DB55.. serious lack of critical thinking skills around these here parts and I mean Fl in general… that’s because most everybody around here is from somewhere else. Meshawn says just give Jameis the damn ball.

  103. Gambelero Says:

Lord wins POY award in my book, besting a post by Pickgrin on our salary cap situation.

  104. BoJim Says:

    ‘Here’s a hint he’s on his 7th team in 12 years’

    ————————————————————————————-

Hmmm. Must be a decent player then? He has confidence and stays calm. I’m cool with him.

  105. EEEK Says:

Winston has done just enough on the field at the right times to keep him firmly employed.

His play has been up and down and his record as a starter is just simply garbage.

As a fan, I feel like I have enough data to make an informed decision that Winston will struggle to be good and has a minuscule chance to be great. Teams have moved on from better quarterbacks with better records with less data and no off the field garbage — of course we don’t see how he practices and performs in the training facility.

I would be comfortable moving on as a fan.

  106. Owlykat Says:

The Bucs have consistently had bad Offensive Lines with the one exception of the OL that Chucky inherited and won the Super Bowl with. Great QBs can look poor behind bad OLs. So that is why we let three QBs go that went on to win Super Bowls with other teams. Behind an excellent FSU Line Jameis won a National Championship and Heisman too.

  107. Wesley Says:

    Lol he’s one to talk.
