The NFL Knows

April 15th, 2018

Respect in football circles.

Joe finds it both hilarious, in a perverse way, and sickening that a loud sect of Bucs fans actually want to trade America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston.

The guy has put up historic numbers and after three years is the best quarterback in the largely sorry history of this franchise — and folks want to give up on him and go back to the days of Stewart McClown? Good, grief.

While Jameis already has lost the respect of some Bucs fans,  for reasons unclear to Joe, Jameis has not lost the respect with those in the NFL.

Earlier this offseason, Joe was speaking with ESPN senior reporter Kevin Seifert and mentioned that maybe Jameis tries too hard and that results in some bonehead plays: trying to make something out of nothing.

Siefert didn’t disagree.

“People around the NFL know he still has a big ceiling to get to,” Seifert said. “People know he works hard. People know he wants to be good.”

Joe doesn’t get when some compare Jameis to a slob like JaMarcus Russell. There’s only two things the two have common.

Joe sometimes thinks Bucs fans would be happy to have another Trent Dilfer behind center who would have to hand the ball off 90 percent of the time because he was so awful throwing.

    It’s time

Dad Jameis needs to blow up this year

  2. ShutTheBucUp Says:

There’s only 2 two things the both have in common?

Lmao Joe that was soooo SLICK. Actually had me sitting here thinking for a second.

Good article nonetheless, short and sweet.

The very small but vocal faction of fans that wants Jameis gone, should actually want Koetter gone. He hasn’t done Jameis many favors with the play calling. I think Jameis needs a fresh playbook and a play caller that isn’t so stubborn and predictable. I feel like when the offense has succeeded, it’s been in spite of Koetter, not because of him. We have the talent to overcome many of his play calling deficiencies (except at RB) but when the man insists on running Drug Martin right upthe middle on every 1st and 2nd down, what are we to do? Yes Jameis shoulders a portion ofthe blame, he is responsible for his actions. But Koetter the playcaller has lost a step.

  3. Dreambig Says:

Too early to throw in the towel on young Jameis. His potential to be a good QB is still there. Now is not the time hit reset. It is time however for Jameis to earn his hype. Time to see a smart QB for whom the game slows down and he consistantly makes good decisions instead panicking into bad plays. Hope he gets there. He may never be great for us but if we trade him, he’ll take someone else to the SB. Thats a Bucs life!

  4. Easy Says:

Let’s see how effective Winston can be if we get a strong running game going to set up the PA pass. If Winston doesn’t show progress this season he’s already at his ceiling.

  5. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Jameis is fine…..give him a running game and a decent defense and he will win championships.

But….I do think it’s a stretch to call him “America’s QB”…..that, to me puts Jameis on a pedestal where he doesn’t belong and forces him to live up to a false expectation.

  6. Doctor Stroud Says:

Trade Jameis? That’s the “Mike Glennon mob” talking! Get over it!

  7. Walter Says:

I was also sitting here thinking for a second on what those two things they have in common are. lol

  8. BucEmUp Says:

It seems like every post has an opening to bring Mike Smith’s name.into the comments section. Been saying since Lovie , the worst THING a team.can do it’s young qb is start his career off with a really bad defense. It really is common sense stuff here, make the defense better, make Jameis more comfortable. Keep it the same last in the league and Jameis will have no choice but to try too hard.

Funny to me how the same people who are critical of Jameis saying this is his last year to step up are the same clowns saying its not Mike Smith it’s the players.

  9. Jim Says:

Well, OK, “the NFL knows” and have him ranked at 17…

  10. BrianBucs Says:

    Joe

The number of Bucs fans that would like to see the team have a different starting QB is much, much larger than you think it is. I would say about half. It’s vast

  11. The Buc Realist Says:

Even Joe has backed off of JW3!!!!! I have not seen a “savior” picture or comment in a long while!!!!! And did not JW3 make a reserve pro-bowl because he was handing the ball off to Drug Martin in 2015??????? I think Joe is now just “realizing” what the “trade down” crowd was talking about, because the roster was not ready, That talk show dominik left the franchise in terrible shape despite what the common opinion was of the time!!!!!!!!

The truth is that he is not the “savior” as reported wrongly, but a good QB that is developing!!!!! and the Bucs are building a roster that had many holes in the personal!!!!!!

    GO Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!

  12. OneBuC55 Says:

Is he perfect no, but the good definitely out weighs the bad…The sky is the limit for Winston; his work ethic is legendary, his god given talent is evident, and he’s a gamer on Sunday…People forget this kid is still a puppy at 24 years old, he not a finish product yet…

From my observation as far as gameday is concerned; Jameis is DieHard, his no retreat, no surrender mentality is one the attributes I love most about is game…That being said, what makes him good is also his biggest weakness…He’ll never let a play die…he tries to make something out of nothing, most of the time it works but a lot of the time it blows up in his face…He just needs to understand when to let a play die and move on to the next one…Once he figures this out (hopefully it’s this season) he’ll take his game to the next level…

  13. Tony from Los Angeles Says:

This article seems to be in response to 4 ignorant trolls who spew the same facts challenged nonsense every day in the comments.

  14. JA Says:

    “Two things in common.”
    What two things?
Is it a secret or am I missing something?

  15. Wausa Says:

    Joe:
The problem with a lot of Bucs fans is that they are idiots.

The Bucs are very lucky to have Jameis as their QB.

I remember when the Bucs had the worst defense in the NFL and an awful running game in 1986 and finished 2-14. A lot of the fans blamed it all on the starting QB and wanted him traded. The Bucs management succumbed to fan pressure and traded the starting QB to San Francisco. After throwing for 33,000 yards and having 6 passing titles and 2 MVP’s he was inducted into the Hall of Fame in August 2005. Thirty years later some Buc fans are saying the same idiotic things that got Steve Young traded to the 49ers.

  16. Waterboy Says:

I think the expectation of fans was Jameis would be a savior for this franchise and he at times tries too hard to live up to those expectations. Once he settles down and just play his game and “stop trying to impress people” he’ll be fine.

The one thing a lot of uninformed fans don’t realize is he’s not a finished product at this point in his career. So far he has proven to be an average NFL QB at ages 21, 22 and 23 which is more than likely his floor. As long as he continues to put in the work, film study and gain more experience the arrows should continue to point up from there. He also may need a new coach who’s more willing to make adjustments to his scheme to fit what his QB does best.

  17. BigHogHaynes Says:

The 2 things they have in common? Stay Black and Die!! CONTINUE TO BUILD A WALL ON BOTH SIDES OF THE BAY!!

  18. OneBuC55 Says:

2 secrets are both from Alabama and both coached by Jimbo Fisher…

  19. Jjones Says:

I want him to succeed, he has the talent…but this is the year. Whether it be good or bad there will be quite a few people eating crow this year.

  20. Jjones Says:

@BigHog…what’s your “stay black and die” comment supposed to mean?

  21. ben Says:

a qb should be accurate with so many weapons and be able to throw the long ball which Jameis so far has NOT shown. After being the 1st pick in the draft he has been passed over by other qb’s taken after him in the following years. After being rated as average by the nfl Winston does not scare another team .He has done nothing to brag about and bucs back up qb won 2 games so…..

  22. Jmcorr Says:

2 things they have in common are being black and they were both a #1 pick

  23. BucTrooper Says:

    Suscint Post of the Weekend:

“People who want to unload Jameis are reading, not watching.”

  24. SB Says:

Don’t feed Big Hog Heinous Jjones. He is the resident racist here. He and DB55

  25. ben Says:

sb.. u bring up racist to people on site.. Let Winston date your daughter but I just want an accurate qb and maybe one that does not fumble so much ..Winston may turn out great but as of now being the #1 pick in the draft ,not so much

  26. Rodney Says:

Thank u Wausa glad somebody brought up Steve young. Jws will be fine. Those same fans want GMC gone too, cuz those fans no nothing

  27. Nole4JabooANDdBucs Says:

    Love it ” Buc Trooper”

  28. ATrain Says:

    Hey Joe

Does anyone look at the fact Jamies is Young most QB are starting their first year at 23-24

    This is a high factor

    He is working
He has one of the strongest arms

He will be a Great One. HOF

By the way check the posts on Jamies Draft
    ATrain WAS a hater

  29. Dan Says:

Excuse me but Winston is worse than Freeman in most categories and mostly in wins and losses. You who love Winston will enjoy 3-13 for 2 more years till we draft another qb.

  30. BucEmUp Says:

What would you do with the worst defense in the league? Probably the same think Jameis does, try to do anything he can to win the game. This entire team is azz backward

  31. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Let’s just assume our defense doesn’t improve one bit from last year. Hard to assume given new personnel but in a worst case scenario.

Last year we lost seven games by a score or less. Defense couldn’t hold on and a kicking game may have given us a couple of wins in those three point games.

So here’s the deal…get Nelson and Guice and #3 will run a killer offense. I think Barkley is even better but he’s going to be gone.

We finally get our offense playing like it SHOULD and we lead by 2 or 3 TD’s heading into the 4th. A good running game…Nelson and Guice or Barkley…will allow our defense to survive and for us to win 10-11 games.

The end goal in any game is simply score more points than the competition. This team is getting really close to explosive. If we have to win 35-24 games I’m cool just as long as we win.

  32. Buc68 Says:

Get the D inside the top 20 statistically, that’s not asking a lot. Hopefully we have addressed the Kicker position and Jameis will get us to the playoffs. Basically don’t completely suck around him just kinda suck and he can overcome that.

  33. firethecannons Says:

we would be showing more Jaboo love if it wan’t for the bonehead plays–getting sacked and throwing it up for grabs or Mike Evans at all costs(in triple coverage)

Those plays will decrease over time Last year he had a rash of fumbles

  34. Joe Says:

Excuse me but Winston is worse than Freeman in most categories and mostly in wins and losses. You who love Winston will enjoy 3-13 for 2 more years till we draft another qb.

Joe knows folks at One Buc Palace read the comments. And Joe is confident folks over there are rolling on the floor in painful laughter reading how Josh Freeman would be an upgrade over Jameis Winston.

  35. unbelievable Says:

Nothing like waking up on a Sunday and reading the thoughts of delusional people on the internet.

  36. Buccfan37 Says:

Winston makes his mistakes but overall I believe he will get better. The uncomfortably numb results should diminish. Each new season holds the same fan enthusiasm that the Bucs will come out hot contenders. I think the Bucs produce a winning season this year.

  37. ATrain Says:

    Winston WANTS TO WIN

He forces plays and makes mistakes because of this

Get the whole team on a Winning Mind Set

GMC has to get on that ideal

Jamies kept us in games Defense failed

We will win with Winston if all on this TEAM take a Winning Attitude

  38. Jjones Says:

@ SB…So the racist version of Tmax, great.

  39. SB Says:

@Jjones……Unfortunately it is the truth. Both of those cats find a way to throw racism in their posts a great deal of the time.

  40. Buc68 Says:

I’ve never seen more focus on the QB position on a team that had the 4th rated passing offense and 32nd ranked D, 32 ranked special teams, 27th or 28th ranked rush O. Look around the NFL the last several years. Find me the great winning teams that were 32nd ranked in D. Scary part is we weren’t even that close to 31. We were the worst d in the NFL by a mile.

  41. Not there yet Says:

    Dan
Excuse me but Winston is worse than Freeman in most categories and mostly in wins and losses. You who love Winston will enjoy 3-13 for 2 more years till we draft another qb.

You are officially the biggest idiot on the planet. You might as well change your name no one could ever take anything you post seriously but making comments like that probably need to find another support to watch.

Winston is no elite quarterback yet but he’s not JM or Jay Cutler or any kind of draft bust yet. When do fans decide how long it should take for a guy to take the next step. He’s young and has enough talent to everything we need at quarterback. He’ll get a second contact so if that bothers you please go find another team. All the stupid comments about letting him date your daughter like that determines anything on a football field. Idiots just shows how so many fans think they are so much holier than athletes. Don’t be mad at Winston because your team has sucked for over a decade he hasn’t been here long enough, that honor should hi to gmc

  42. Dlavid Says:

Trent Dilfer …. man Joe you really opened a closed wound there brother ! Dam near had erased him from my memorie !

  43. Bucballbaby84 Says:

He’s my Qb. He still has all my respect.

  44. J Says:

How can you be unsure of how JAboob lost fans respect with his groping and immature behavior? Guys a sociopath

  45. Ocala Says:

    Stop using logic Buc68.
You are confusing the idiots on here

  46. Walter Seidel Says:

Joe, please state what are the two things? Otherwise, some of us will think you’re racist.

  47. jmarkbuc Says:

“and after three years is the best quarterback in the largely sorry history of this franchise”

    Not much of an endorsement
