Substitute Jameis

April 25th, 2018

Now this was a hell of an idea that, frankly, many more Buccaneers should engage in.

The Bucs have a relationship with local school systems already and perhaps could push the notion to players. Heck, Raheem Morris used to make a regular address piped in to tens of thousands of Hillsborough County students.

America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, applied to be a substitute teacher at a Tallahassee middle school and finally go the call to duty.

The video below captures a small slice of his experience, in addition to an after school trip he took with kids to Florida State University.

Great, great idea.

Couldn’t you just see Ali Marpet teaching kindergarten for a day, leading music with his ukulele and reading to kids? Or how about Keith Tandy in a middle school science class putting his forensic science degree to use? And when he’s done, maybe Tandy could lend that analytical expertise to the Bucs’ defensive backs coaches.

    Jameis loves kids and has a big heart.

  2. Tom Edrington Says:

    Shoot, I thought he’d be teaching a history or math class!
    Really don’t know, Tom. Can’t just assume all that was happening from the video. –Joe

    As a Gator fan I was against Jameis coming to Tampa, but he has made me a believer, you just want to root for this guy and you can’t fake his type of passion. He loves to win but loves kids and wants to share his lessons he has learned with them. As a believer and fellow Christian I know that if he stays on the right path great things will come, weather it is football or working with kids or something the lord calls him to do and i know he’s gonna be a great dad.

  4. AKick'nTheBucNuts Says:

    Good for him and the class!

    It’s hard to tell who was more excited, Jameis or the class.
    Call it a tie.

  5. Jolly Bucs Fan Says:

    OMG what a CANCER amiright? lol

    In all honesty tho, I wouldnt want to be on the opposing team here, Jaboo is throwing those balls likes it’s freaking mid-season.

  6. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    I like him spending time with kids…but I will be surprised if they approve him

  7. Jason Mclaurin Says:

    Great to see. No one has reached out more than Jameis. Pros don’t do that kind of stuff. I remember last season they tried to crucify the man for the way he was talking to the kids but at least he was talking to them and taking time out with them as well. When has any pro showed up like he has since he’s been in the league.

  8. gilhealy Says:

    @Bonzai…what does that mean?

  9. Pickgrin Says:

    “putting his forensic science degree to use…maybe Tandy could lend that analytical expertise to the Bucs’ defensive backs coaches.”

    The author reveals himself…

  10. Bigbucfan87 Says:

    Was it just me or did I see Hargreaves in that video? That would be good for him also

  11. Realty 43 Says:

    @Bonzai

    They already approved him and there is a video above LOL

  12. webster Says:

    @ joe

    I was wondering if you were going to write about this story. Its so interesting that when you wrote the suspension article a couple of days ago how all the jameis trolls came out to bash this guy and call him all kinds of cancers etc. Look at this thread…only 11 or so responses. This just makes me sick. This guy really loves giving back and he works extremely hard on his craft but idiot butt hurt mariotta lovers just want to bash this guy. Its pathetic and sad. And joe i got over my anger with you and the suspension article that was written a couple of days ago. I had to take a one day break from your site.

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!!

  14. grafikdetail Says:

    jaboo was out there trying to win LOL he was throwing nothing but lasers at those poor kids

  15. webster Says:

    @ grafikdetail

    I noticed that too. This guy hates losing no matter who the competition is. I remember he and his girlfriend competing against one another on hard knocks. I would rather have to tell a player to dial it back as oppose to turn it up if you know what i mean.

  16. RayJay J Says:

    Jaboo throwin flames!

  17. I'm a Tandyman Bucs Fan Says:

    Pickgrin what does that mean???? Buh-dumph-ttsssss

  18. lambchop Says:

    @webster,

    Are all the articles on Jameis supposed to be sugar-coated candy for you? Otherwise you take a break cuz your feelings are hurt? LMAO

  19. Red86 Says:

    Jaboo!! Great story.

  20. Matt Says:

    I love Jameis and am rooting for him to take a big step forward this year, as well as not be suspended. Love the stuff he does for the kids.

  21. webster Says:

    @ sheepchop

    Joe has written many articles on winston good and bad. I took issue with one. But butt hurt mariotta lovers like you are too much of an idiot so why even bother. Oh thats right because you are a jameis troll. Gtfoh

  22. webster Says:

    @ sheepchop

    You proved my point. You are such a butt hurt mariotta troll that you come to an article talking about the good this guy does in the community but instead of commending him, you want to rant at me. You cant even acknowledge the good your qb does. You are an idiot troll.

  23. webster Says:

    @ sheepchop

    You are a butt hurt mariotta lover. You have not made one positive post about jameis ever which further lets me know you are no noles fan and you are a butt hurt mariotta lover. Gtfoh liar!!!

  24. BringBucsBack Says:

    I was a Substitute teacher here in Lakeland from 2011 to 2012 and unfortunately, I was never able to throw balls at kids…and I sure would have liked to!!

    A normal day basically consists of babysitting; putting out fires, keeping kids from fighting one another AND YOU, begging them to sit down & be quite, to get off of their phones, to stop cussing & defending yourself against THEIR false accusations made against YOU, the “teacher”, with little support from faculty, all while being paid peanuts. Not quite as glamorous and as fun a day as Jameis had here but, I get it, it’s a nice PR move and he’s a celebrity.

    Yeah, he obviously loves kids, good on him for that! Little doubt that he’ll be an active dad.

  25. lambchop Says:

    @webster,

    you are a clown. If I had so much love for Mariotta, I would never say he sucks. First off, let’s get one thing straight, I wish Winston succeeds. His success is tied to the team’s success. But I will not gush over him until he matures. Let’s forget the off-field stuff since it’s on going. He is still an immature player on the field. So, you are the sheep who can’t take criticism from a Bucs fan, not a Jameis fan. I will never be a fan of any player over the team. The team remains, the players move on.

    So, when you grow up some, you might understand what I just said. Now, you can gtfoh dumbass.

  26. lambchop Says:

    @BringBucsBack,

    Exactly. PR move is right. These people gobble this crap up like it’s a true representation of him. If this dude was squeaky clean on and off the field, I’d gobble it up too. Just cuz he smiles on camera and chills out with kids does not make him untouchable to criticism. Who you are in the heat of the moment tells me more than cookie cutter TV time.

  27. webster Says:

    @ sheepchop

    You are a butt hurt mariotta lover. If all you can do is see jameis faults and cant acknowledge the things he does very well, it makes you an obvious butt hurt mariotta lovers. You see, true buc fans/winston fans knows he has things to work on but can appreciate the qb he already is and are looking forward to what he can become. Jameis has done nothing off the field but butt hurt mariotta lovers such as yourself get a woody knowing he was accused of touching a female regardless if the accusation is false. See butt hurt mariotta lovers like you say you are waiting for winston to mature, its all a lie. Because i know you loved manning and he was still throwing 24 ints in his fourth year. I also bet you were one saying he was no andrew luck when he was coming out of college. Luck had more turnovers than anybody. See butt hurt mariotta lovers are so transparent that it aint even funny. You are not fooling anyone. Again you are a bold face lie butt hurt mariota lover. Good day sheep

  28. lambchop Says:

    @webster,

    LMAO, you are a broken record worse than I am. Stop sniffing the jock strap kid. I can’t argue with stupid.

  29. webster Says:

    @ Sheepchop

    BAAAAAAAAAAAAA. BAAAAAAAAAA. Butt hurt mariotta lover. BAAAAAAAAAA. BAAAAAAAAA. BAAAAAAAAA.

  30. Nole4JabooANDdBucs Says:

    Webster I concur wholeheartedly! I also had to take a break after that article…I may have to wean off this site some though…I am a JW homer and it sickens me to see him bashed constantly…no he is not perfect and neither are anyone birthed in this world…

    I really hope he makes a lot of these naysayers wish thay could sniff his “jock strap”

    This kid has given the kids in TB a dream room, he gives back in Tally and Alabama constantly is some PR of course…but he has been extending himself since he was truly a kid.

    Wonder who does the Jameis bashers help?

  31. Nole4JabooANDdBucs Says:

    *yes some is PR

  32. BMW Says:

    Most people don’t care if he is innocent or guilty as long as their opinion of others can be buttressed. He survived a police investigation, a Florida States Attorney investigation AND a school code of conduct hearing where EVERY LEGITIMATE LAWYER SAID HE WAS CRAZY TO TESTIFY since any testimony could be used against him. Yet he did, calling the Ast. Fl States Attorney to testify about the changing versions and outright lies of his accuser, and prevailed.

    People act as if false allegations, for a myriad of reasons, never happen. Unfortunately, innocent until proven guilty only applies to some in this country. Ultimately, Jaboo will survive and thrive.

  33. lambchop Says:

    @BMW,

    I hope he succeeds. I am over his off-field issues as that will resolve itself. My issues are with his immaturity on the field. He’s in his 5th year and I’ve yet to see all the talk and pre-game speeches, coming to practice first and leaving last transpire into anything concrete with either his play or his demeanor when things get heated. For someone who talks with so much maturity, his actions (although limited) don’t match his talk.

    I am allowed to have my opinion of him because nobody forced him to present himself in such a mature way. He will be scrutinized more for the fact that he’s so vocal with his leadership. You can’t talk the talk without walking the walk. I’m not a sucker that a salesman is going to talk me into buying a $5,000 vaccum cleaner. I want proof.

  34. gilhealy Says:

    Yea, Lambchop, it’s his 4th year. And knowing you were a finished product at 24 years old, I can see your reasons for doubt. Some of us took a little more time to become fully mature. You must be the exception. Good for you. LOL

  35. Nole4JabooANDdBucs Says:

    Sure wish I knew people who personally know Lambchop in all his flawless glory😇
