“Brutal” 2019 Could Help Bucs

April 25th, 2018

Jason Licht’s grin might be on full display before the Bucs even pick tomorrow night.

An ex-Jets quarterback heard breaking down all kinds of college film on Sirius XM Radio delivered excellent news for Bucs fans today.

The good news is that the 2019 draft class of quarterbacks is “brutal,” says Greg McElroy, who played his college ball at Alabama and was drafted in 2011.

McElroy was talking about how he expects four QBs to go in the first six picks of this year’s draft, in part, because of that crappy ’19 class. The message was clear, as McElroy delivered it on WDAE-AM 620 today, get your QB this week if you’re one of the teams in need.

With the No. 7 overall pick, the Bucs are sitting pretty, if you buy McElroy’s premise. It’s an easy one for dreamy Bucs fans to latch on to. If four QBs go in the first six picks, then that means one of the “Big 3” will be sitting there for Tampa Bay: running back Saquon Barkley, guard Quenton Nelson and defensive end Bradley Chubb.

Joe will believe it when Joe sees it, but it sure is a fun thought to savor. Man, if the Bucs somehow snagged Chubb, Joe’s excitement might be impossible to contain.

And if the big 3 are gone, then one of the qb’s has dropped and we can hopefully trade back and pick up another 2nd rd pick.

  2. PapaKrack Says:

Whats with all the Mock Draft Crap. Everyone I see has us taking either FSU DB or the Bama DB. The have no track record with trying to develop a DB. If one of the Big 3 are not there at 7….Trade Down……No Brainer

  3. Wausa Says:

I would select Chubb or Nelson over Barkley.

BTW. A trade I have not heard, but I think there is a solid chance of occurring is the Bucs trading their 1st to San Francisco for their 1st and 3rd so the 49ers can either select Edmunds from Virginia Tech or Smith from Georgia.

  4. Lord Cornelius Says:

I feel like a hamster in a spinning wheel.

It’s been like months it seems since settling in on the Big 3 or Trade Down being the obvious game plan…

One more sleepless night of dreaming of draft possibilities. Although if we trade back and land another 2 and 3; I’m going to be more excited for Friday night

  5. lambchop Says:

    @Wausa,

Roquon Smith will be sitting at #9 easy. They don’t have to trade up for that. 4 QBs in top 6 guarantees he’s going to be there.

  6. Pickgrin Says:

Hard to imagine a decent trade down option wouldn’t be available at #7 if Chubb, Nelson and Barkley are off the board.

Frankly – the Bucs are likely better off trading down regardless of who is on the board – but I’m sure it will be near impossible for Licht to not draft a true Blue Chip top 3 talent at #7 if it falls that way.

  7. The Real Tim Brown Says:

There is a ZERO percent chance the Bucs take Chubb #7. ZERO. They already used their 3rd round pick on a DE in JPP. They still need to fill starting holes at RB, CB, S, and maybe G…with only TWO picks before the 4th round.

I would love the draft to play out where they could trade back to get more picks so they could fill those need with talent, not late-round reaches.

  8. Tampabaybucfan Says:

If one of the big three are there…..especially Chubb….it will be very difficult for Licht to trade down….but that’a a good thing….that means he will hold out for a very good trade.

  9. Tackleblockwin Says:

What if Bucs were able to trade back twice in 1st rd? Can you imagine that?

  10. 813bucboi Says:

    wausa

I agree…..chubb over nelson…nelson over barkley….and that san fran trade your talking about could happen….ruben foster seems like he has 1foot out the door with his current legal situation…..

    lambchop

colts have been linked to taking r.smith at #6…..might be smoke screen but who knows…..

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!!

  11. Tom S. Says:

I think it’s there’s a solid chance 4 QB’s go in the top 7 (if the Bucs get a good trade offer and the top 3 are off the board) as teams without QB’s know that the cavalry isn’t going to be coming to save them and, at minimum, a rookie QB usually buys a GM a few years to see if they pan out in addition to getting a fan base excited.

  12. Joseph Mamma Says:

A guard at pick #7, are you kidding me? We should be so lucky.

  13. Eric Says:

    They can develop a db.

You can’t eliminate an entire position because you cant coach supposedly.

    Geez.

Brees, Wentz, Big Ben, we better get some help.

  14. rrsrq Says:

Hopefully, the Browns pick two QB’s at #1 and #4, Bradley Chubb falls because the colts want the Georgia linebacker, and Denver wants Nelson.

  15. Trench War Says:

Heck, Let’s hope 5 go in the first 6 picks!

  16. Easy Says:

    Nelson bless

  17. lambchop Says:

    @813bucboi,

If Roquon is picked #6, there’s no point for the Niners to trace with us at 7.

  18. lambchop Says:

    *trade

  19. John meeks Says:

Joseph mama ,do you know anything about Nelson or anyone else in the draft?I hear you keep saying “a guard are you kidding me”.do you even know where he played college football at?you are welcome to tell us fans about the prospect you like and why you like him!please tell us ignorant Nelson fans who you want and why!I’m waiting sir!

  20. John meeks Says:

My top three prospects in this draft in order if I had picks 1thru3 would be saquan, nelson,Chubb..

  21. passthebuc Says:

    Tomorrow, Tomorrow, it’s only a day away……………….

  22. John meeks Says:

God bless America,Jack Daniels, NFL draft, and joe!!I’m ready for the party to start!egg Goodell before you boo!

  23. Batman Wood Says:

I checked out Buffalo Wild Wings this afternoon. They said they had 24 kegs of beer ready. Is that going to be enough? Can’t wait for all the talk to end.

  24. Fsuking Says:

I’m not it’s as high on Chubb as some are. Would rather have Barkley, Nelson or Derwin James. Maybe Ward? But Chubb is a close 3rd or 4th

  25. Fsuking Says:

And I’ve never been wrong about a top 5 selection. I thought RG3 was the second coming and boy that’s worked out perfect

  26. SB Says:

    Nelson! Nelson! Nelson! Nelson! Nelson!
Fix the trenches and all else will take care of itself!!!

  27. Fred mcneil Says:

This is what I like about the Joe’s. You reew my hope.

  28. Defense Rules Says:

@McElroy … “get your QB this week if you’re one of the teams in need.” Hmmm, so maybe some teams really do draft for NEED. And the Bucs (and Licht) should be thankful if they do IF we end up with one of the Big-3.
