Anthony Becht Takes A Stab

April 24th, 2018

On former Bucs TE’s board.

Former Bucs tight end and current Buccaneers Radio Network voice Anthony Becht decided to jump into the mock draft pool and take his stab at who the Bucs will select this week.

Becht, who also calls college games for the four-letter, takes a guess at every round the Bucs have a draft pick in.

It is the second and fourth rounds that intrigue Joe.

Becht expects both Georgia running back Sony Michael and Florida State cornerback Tarvarus McFadden to slip to the second and fourth rounds, respectively.

If the Bucs can somehow pull that off, it would be a haul.

McFadden is a player that impresses Joe with his coverage skills and ballhawking ways. He is not a tackler by any stretch of the imagination. In fact, McFadden seems to Joe to be allergic to contact.

For those pining to draft a tall defensive back, McFadden is 6-2.

The Bucs could do worse than McFadden in the fourth round. Then again, recent history with the Bucs suggests McFadden won’t be developed at all.

    Love me some Sony Michel

  2. Jeffbuc Says:

I like that I hope Michel is there in the second but I think he will go at the end of round one. I think Chubb is real close to being back to his pre-injury form. And if so he could end up being the best runningback in this draft.

  3. jmarkbuc Says:

So this McFadden can catch off the mark wounded duck passes?

    Impressive

  4. Pepsi Says:

I pretty much am equally hyped on Guice, Michel, and Chubb. one of them.. please be there in round 2 for us

  5. Geno712 Says:

I thought about McFadden in the 4th round and asked a friend of mine that watches every FSU snap and used to coach about him. Here is what he sent me… Google first play of game FSU vs USF 2016. Rodney Adams beat him BAD for 75 yd TD. Adams 6th round pick by Vikings, but never active and already officially retired. Then Google last play of the game 2017 Miami vs FSU. A Miami WR who only 3 plays the entire game (deep bench WR), beat him for game winning TD. We were up 3 with 9 secs left and Miami well within FG range. Took a shot at the end zone going after McFadden. .. and also sent… Those 2 WR won’t sniff an NFL field, but beat McFadden easy – the last one a game winner. NO WAY in 4th round. I wouldn’t take him in 7th actually. Can’t run and can’t cover. Had a lot ints, but mostly because he got targeted alot. Got a bunch on underthrown balls.

  6. DoSomething Says:

Noles fan here and cannot understand the hype behind McFadden. He single handedly lost games at FSU

  7. doctor_berto Says:

McFadden is not good at all, plus he is slow and gets burnt which seems like every other play for a td. Just because I am an FSU homer doesnt mean I like every player on the team! Derwin in the first!!

  8. Kingcrableggs Says:

This kid reminds me of some home grown talent we had in the past…. Juran Bolden long and fast but not reliable. FSU’s secondary has struggled as a group the past 4 years.

  9. BucEmUp Says:

Dalvin cook slipped to the second. I don’t see Sony going before the first round is over. I would like that pick but I don’t think they will incmvest high on a rb.

One big problem with Bryant is he clearly likes to play tight coverage. We all know he will lined up 12 yards deep with this coaching staff and be labeled a bust when he gets beat on slant routes. Why waste any picks on dbs when they will be ruined? At least the next coaching staff will have time to coach him up.

  10. hoover923 Says:

McFadden is a 4.67 guy. He’s not an answer. The size is intriguing, but CBs have to run. If we ran a pure zone scheme, he might be a fit…

  11. Andrew Says:

McFadden is the reincarnation of Myron Lewis.

I am a FSU grad. Watch every game. I was shocked McFadden was projected first round before the season. He had so many picks because they target him all game long! He either picked the ball or gave up a huge play. And this year, he just gave up big plays.

  12. GabeK Says:

I would be more than OK with those picks, idk about Mcfadden though, and I like the Noles sooooo

  13. Lord Cornelius Says:

+1 to all the other FSU alum that are thinking wtf with McFadden being rated highly at all.

His interceptions were fluky. Not a good CB at all. If he makes it in the NFL I will be absolutely shocked and it just means he somehow figured out how to play the position after college.

  14. BetterBuccinBelieveIt Says:

Michel isn’t going in the 2nd round. And if ths McFadden guy “can’t be coached up by the Bucs coaching staff” at all, enter (ad nauseum, etc. etc.)…then, whoops, great article. I’m thinking the former TE Becht might be better off sticking to evaluating…ya know…the TIGHT ENDS. Like Gesicki, Goedert, etc. etc.

    Go Bucs!

  15. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Clearly, anyone who wants someone else in a higher round at the position will not want him, but I like him.

    6’2″
    Over 200 lbs.

Went over to the NFL Draft page and looked him up on the tracker…the page on him says 5-6th rounder…but the end of their video highlight breakdown predicts 2nd -3rd round.

I always compare to Ronde Barber’s Pro Day stats for the 40.

    Ronde: 4.41 seconds
    McFadden: 4.67 seconds (combine)

So McFadden was a lot slower at the combine than Ronde was on his pro day. But he was much fast and lighter during his freshman year…so the question is, can he get back to that speed?

  16. El_Buc941 Says:

We either trade down with the bills or Billicheats…ONLY if none of the following are available at 7,Nelson, Chubb,or Barkley. If we trade with the bills we can get Derwin at 12 and Guice at 22 or if it’s the Billicheats we get Will Hernandez and then Guice but of course if it’s with the Billicheats I want both first rounders,1 2nd,next year’s 4th and 7th.that way we have 2 first rounders and 2 second rounders and in the second round with those 2 picks we can address the DT and CB positions.

  17. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Let me rephrase that…I like him as a very late round project. Not as a 4th rounder.

  18. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    @El_Buc941

I agree that if Nelson, Chubb,or Barkley are not there we should trade down…but we’ll have to have a good trade partner first. Any team will trade up if it is cheap…but for us to trade down to 12 or lower, we’d have to get a bit in return.

  19. Defense Rules Says:

El_Buc941 … “We either trade down with the bills or Billicheats…ONLY if none of the following are available at 7,Nelson, Chubb,or Barkley.” Possibility of trading down with the Patriots is intriguing. They have FOUR picks in Rnds 1 & 2 (#23, 31, 43 & 63), and Licht has done business with them in the past.

Pats most likely want a QB (No QB-in-Waiting behind Brady presently). IF a QB they like is available at #7 they MAY be interested in moving up to grab him. In that case, some interesting scenarios unfold for the Bucs. Even if all Licht does is swap out our #7 for Pats #23 AND #31, we’d then have 3 picks in top 2 Rnds. Good chance to get a quality CB, RB AND G in one fell swoop.

  20. Lord Cornelius Says:

    @DR

Easterling had our mock trade with the Pats giving us 21/31/43 at least I think which seems a bit absurd.

    Per the value system 21/31 & 95 (3rd rounder) would be about even (pick 7 = 1500 points and those 3 picks = 1480).

    21-Taven Bryan DT/DE
    31-Derrius Guice RB
    38-Hughes/Alexander/Jackson CB
    95-Ragnow/Teller/Smith OG
    102-Alex Cappa/? OT
    R5-R7-BPA DE/RB/CB/S

The trade down mocks are the only one’s where I can get super excited about a potential haul lol.

  21. Skoorb43 Says:

    Say yes to Sony !!!!

  22. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

    What LC said

  23. Kalind Says:

FSU fan here. Don’t do it. I’d rather have that kid for Univ Dubuque same height just as heavy and a lot faster. Likes to hit. Small school kid too, take him in rd6 and get a steal

  24. Buccaneer scotty Says:

Take Sony at #7 got to be better than James at #7

  25. JimmyJack Says:

So Becht has us going Minkah. I’d be happy with that.

  26. Defense Rules Says:

Lord C, would LOVE to see us trade-down for Pats #21 & #31 (getting #95 would be awesome but I wouldn’t hold my breath if I were Licht). Even though the TWO 1st-Rnders are a ways down, Bucs can still get the RB, CB & G that we need AND maybe add in a DT too (would be perfectly happy with Guice, Ragnow & ‘Whatever CB’ PLUS Bryan). Several decent CBs should be there in 2nd Rnd. Now that we’ve solved the mystery, can we also tell Licht to draft Bo Scarborough in say the 5th Rnd (assuming he’s still there of course)?

  27. Tampabaybucfan Says:

It’s Tuesday Joe…where is the story regarding Fitz being our QB game one…or did I miss it?

  28. unbelievable Says:

    No no no.

Maybe as an UDFA… As others have said, the majority of his INTs were not from him being a ballhawk.

  29. unbelievable Says:

@tbbf- it was posted late last night / early this morning

  30. Marine Buc Says:

If the Bucs cannot trade the #7 pick the only RB I would take is Barkley. I highly doubt he will be available. Defensive backs will be pick #1 and #2. Everything else will have to wait.

  31. Jason Mclaurin Says:

I’m with Michel if he’s out there by the time we pick in the second round. I say we should use our second round pick and talk moving up in the late first with the Steelers or Patriots. I like the Patriots though because they have two first round picks. If we can get an extra second round pick in a trade down scenario from #7 that’s not the Patriots but someone else in they’re division like the Bills then we just swap places with one of the second round picks and give away another one which would put us with four day 1 picks and the Patriots with four day 2 picks plus we move to the end of the second with New England so we still can get a premium player. I don’t understand why this can’t happen the Patriots are gonna get M. Rudolph or L. Falk to replace Brady in the second so if we trade New England our pick in the second they will be up early enough to get him at a decent pay range as well which is where they landed stud Garoppalo and they we’re trying to achieve the same thing with him as well. It burned Bellichick too when they traded him so I can see this scenario and if I see it I know the front office sees it as well on both sides. The Bills and Patriots should use Tampa Bay to do their QB bidding. The Patriots would be Kings again of the draft for drafting QB M.Rudolph and obtaining four second round picks, They get all their ppl in the process to make another run replacing their o line and D line. The Bills get their dream boy QB without no sacrifices because they will still have two day 2 picks as well. The Bucs make major moves for Winston headlining four first round picks and drafting area native talent such as D. James, T. Bryan, S. Michel and Wynn with a second round pick of their own to address CB or another edge rusher. I like getting Wynn to go along with Michel and letting Wynn play RG and have ferocious strength inside pairing in E. Smith would be great depth as well for his injury issue or durability to go along with the continuing development of C. Beneoch as well. I say we look into getting a corner at that spot maybe J. Jackson from Iowa or make a move R. Darby with a draft pick remember we gotta have a great balance at this point until we resign guys like Marpet, D. Smith and K. Alexander. I think VH3 will be a bargain at this point and so will Spence which is why I like J. Sweat as well if we can keep a late second round pick as pointed out in this scenario. Then later grab Hill from Sam Houston St. and Cappa from Humboldt St two small school guys who will be great for depth if we can’t deal a pick for R. Darby and instead draft a CB with a late as specified.

  32. feelthepewterpower Says:

Fitz! Then trade back down I to the first and pick up Isaiah oliver……might have the best secondary in the league with those two!! We can get John Kelly in the early fourth.

  33. StAugBuc Says:

Defensive backs will be pick #1 and #2. Everything else will have to wait.
    ___________________________________________________________
$20 bucks says that doesn’t happen

  34. passthebuc Says:

I don’t see Bellichick giving away picks to move up. This is a good QB draft and there are a couple of qb’s that will be in the league long after some of the prime have called it quits.
Bellichick believes he has 2-3 years with Brady to teach his successer.

  35. DanBucsFan Says:

I have a legitimate source in the “know” who actually works for the Bucs. He told me 15 mins ago that there is a strong scenario that has been discussed by both sides that if trades happen before we are on the clock we may end up trading #7 to Arizona if 3 Qb’s are taken before our pick. I just hope if we do fall back to 15 we get several picks included. I really felt good about trading back, but now I am nervous lol damn draft can’t get here quick enough.

  36. SB Says:

Dan I PRAY that the scenario you just put up is what happens!

  37. BigMacAttack Says:

Anthony Becht does such a great job calling games, reviewing plays and all things football 🏈. Love that guy.

  38. SB Says:

    @ St. Aug… I would go 10 to 1!
Nice work on the Pickem again this yr!!

  39. BigMacAttack Says:

I don’t really care what Licht does because the team will get some good players. I like the trades but whatever happens I’m okay with. He’s s pretty sharp GM and so think he’ll do well. I agree 100% with Joe on DB come coaching but it’s going to happen. Licht will draft at least 1 CB and Maybe 2 or 3. I have a lot more faith in Licht than I do Koetter and his coaches.

  40. Mike Johnson Says:

If Barkley, Chubb or Nelson are there at 7, we almost gotta take’em..I would think? Actually to be honest. Barkley and Chubb should go 1 and 2 and Nelson 3. But the QB’s will rule. Although I see 2 of the top 4 QB’s who will be just average. Sorry guys, I can’t let it go..I know I must Butt..If only we had tanked that last seasonal game. No 5..we would be sittin in high cotton right now. But heyyyy its a BucLife right?

  41. JJBucfan Says:

Noles guy here- McFadden quit on this team this year- he was playing not get hurt IMO. That does not say a lot about his character. If he falls to 5th round- my interest is peaked, though. Without a 3rd, that 4th rounder could be crucial.

I am on pins and deadles awaiting draft night. The fun part is reading the comments by fellow Bucs fans on Joebucsfan after the draft. Will be interesting as always. Go Bucs. I am a long time Bucs fan. Watched every one of the expansion Bucs 26 game loosing streak as a teenager. Go Bucs. Good things are on the way.

  44. Pa Privateer Says:

Outside of DE Chubb and RB Barkley……

    The Bucs are looking at:
Day 1 = 4 CB, 3 OG and 2 SS, plus NT Vea, DT Bryan and OT McGlinchey

The majority of these prospects are mid to late 1st round. Licht has a plan if the big 3 are gone. In fact, I think he wants out of 7 very badly. Licht is waiting for draft day pressure to mount and get multiple picks.

Day 2 = 5 CB, 4 RB, 3 WR and 2 OG, plus C Price, LB Griffin, and DE Sweat

The Majority of these prospects are RBs and CBs in Round 2. Again, I think Litch wants out of #7 and trade down to get an extra first and second round pick.

Day 3 = 2 RB, 2 FB, 2 QB, FS, SS, WR, OT, DE, DT

It looks like Litch will try for OT, RB and CB in R1 and R2.

However, I also suspect he will trade down twice in the 1st Round and try acquire 4 or 5 picks in Rounds 1-3.

For that, I suspect DT Bryan, Wynn, RB, CB and CB

Just me digging but only an opinion

  45. blind melon Says:

Chubb and Ballage will complete our backfield.

All about Oliver as the DB.
