VIDEO: Jason Licht’s Chubb Angle

March 20th, 2018

Bucs GM Jason Licht

Tampa Bay general manager Jason Licht made a road trip to North Carolina State University yesterday, and it wasn’t to visit the Mike Glennon statue on campus.

The Bucs’ architect was there to watch the Pro Day show put on by highly-touted defensive end prospect Bradley Chubb.

Oh what a celebration it would be if Chubb fell to the Bucs with the No. 7 overall pick in the draft next month.

In the Twitter video below, you can see Licht in the background as Bill Belicheat leads Chubb through an exercise. Dare to dream, Bucs fans. Dare to dream.

Be there for Round 1. Arrive early. Stay through Round 2 and 3 the following day.

  1. Horse Liver Says:

    “Mike Glennon statue” — LOL!!!!!!!

Chubb being there at 7 for the Bucs seems too good to be true but no one thought Howard would be there last year, so………….

  2. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

The video refuses to work for me, but I get the idea.
Your Bucs Uncensored Draft Party lacks a date and time

  3. Dooshlarue Says:

    “Chubb Angle” !!!

    One of your best Joe!!

  4. tnew Says:

Belichick already recruiting and scouting for Chubb’s second contract.

  5. MadMax Says:

Ouch, looks like he jammed his thumb or a finger in that vid.

The more I see, the more I think he’ll be there at 7. And big Vita not doing much at his combine and pro day…..eh, just dont know. I know i do like what ive seen in Harold Landry though.

  6. BucEmUp Says:

    Just draft 7 defensive ends.

  7. Tampabaybucfan Says:

We could jump Indy by trading to 5 with Denver…that would be the least costly trade up….Denver knows Indy won’t take a QB so it is a limited gamble for them.
I’m not in favor of trading up except for Barkley and only trading to 5.

For me, trading with Indy makes no sense….either they want Chubb if he’s there or they don’t and we would get him….if they want Chubb, they won’t trade with us.

  8. Baz Says:

    TBBF,
I think the exact same thing, trade up with Denver. However, Peter Kong mentioned he has heard the Colts may not be done with trading down yet and collecting picks to rebuild that team. If so, Cardinals or Bills May trade up there and allow Nelson, Barkley, or Chubb to fall to us.

  9. Bobby M. Says:

If available, my preferences in the 1st rd would be….
    1. Barkley
    2. Nelson
    3. Chubb

When you dial in on the athletic stats, Chubb isn’t as stellar as he’s made out to be….He’s not a freakish athlete like when Kearse, Peppers or Clowney came on the scene…..I think Chubb could easily end up being much like Winston, a productive starter in the league but not elite. I also believe DEs dont produce right away and we need production. Barkley and Nelson will start day one….

  10. AlteredEgo Says:

Folks better start coming up with more realistic top 3 picks….

If available, my preferences in the 1st rd would be….
    1. Barkley
    2. Nelson
    3. Chubb

  11. Wausa Says:

Obviously the Bucs have a massive need at DE/Edge and Chubb needs to be the pick if he is available at #7. However, the Bucs still have major needs at S, OG, DT, RB and CB.

If the Bucs first round pick is Barkley, Nelson, Edmunds or James I would feel confident the Bucs got much better.

  12. JimmyJack Says:

Hahahahaha………You guys keep trying to figure out how the draft will go down. You will never figure it out. Me I’m gonna have a grand ole time sitting back and watching it unfold. This one is so unpredictable with 4 QBs in play.

Just think about any mocks you saw before the Jets traded. I’d have a hard time believing you if you say you saw one with the Jets trading up to #3. Teams don’t sit around and wait for QBs to drop. We all know that position is too important.

Buffalo didn’t move up to 12 for a Corner. There not done. The picks in front of us are going to have moving parts for sure.

  13. D-Rome Says:

The video refuses to work for me, but I get the idea.
Your Bucs Uncensored Draft Party lacks a date and time

Just a guess, and don’t hold me to it, but I’m guessing the “Draft Party” is on April 26th and will officially start at 8:00 PM.

  14. JimmyJack Says:

Just for fun Im predicting Buffalo to trade with Cleveland and Denver moving up with the Giants.

Giants picking at #5 with Chubb, Barkley or Nelson.

At that point I consider moving up 2 spots for the guy you want.

  15. AlteredEgo Says:

My 3 picks if stay at 7 other than the 3 buzz names are

    in any order

    James
    Ward
    Edmunds

  16. JimmyJack Says:

But if I’m Cleveland I want Mayfield. And I’m taking the gamble he will be avialable at 4.

    I’m taking Barkley 1st and Mayfield 4th.

I don’t pass on the chance to get a franchise QB and RB in the same draft.

  17. AlteredEgo Says:

Perhaps the Bucs can work a trade with Denver reuniting DJax and Cousins
swamping picks in the first…would have to eat cap dollars 10 mil if my impression is correct

  18. JimmyJack Says:

What happened to that Mincah Fitzpatrick dude? Last month everybody was calling him a an elite prospect in same class as Chubb, Nelson, Barkley.

Sounds like his name has dropped a lot. Did he get hurt? Or get in trouble or stink up his combine? What happened?

  19. Aristotle Says:

    Imagine getting

    C Mike Pouncey (FA) (8M-yr)
    DE Robert Quinn (3rd)
    CB Marcus Peters (2nd)

Seeing as we usually miss in 2nd rd picks
    It wouldn’t be so bad
And Best player available for first
    Chubb, Barkley, Nelson

  20. Joeypoppems Says:

Imo our 1st round pick needs to be used on defense. If Chubb is gone and both Nelson and Barkley are there at 7 I would be hoping for them to trade back.

I think there is a good shot at Chubb being the one that falls to us tho. People are saying 4 QBs will go in the first 4 picks, but I dont think so.

I think the Giants take Nelson at #2. They overpaid Solder and tried to pay Norwell. They are serious about fixing there OL.

Then I will be PRAYING Barkley goes at #6. That would leave Chubb there at #7 for us.

  21. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    MadMax Says
“Ouch, looks like he jammed his thumb or a finger in that vid.”

    Wonder if that’s a red flag…

  22. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    BucEmUp Says
    “Just draft 7 defensive ends.”

You’re joking…but we would find at least two great ones out of the bunch, since Licht averages 3-4 great draft picks per draft, we’d be in like Flin.

Too bad we need a couple other positions too.

Wish they’d sign Darkwa just to fill that spot.

  23. StPeteBucsFan Says:

I’m fine with Chubb but I’m not sure he’s the BPA. I think Nelson is more of a can’t miss at his position than Chubb is at his.

If we get Nelson in the draft…imagine our OL this year and going forward. The middle three could end up being the meanest and best interior three in the league. Our tackles would improve because of the personality our OL would develop.

If we take Nelson then we can draft six DE’s lol.

  24. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

At this point, that first pick has to go on Chubb, Vea or Davenport. I don’t care if we reach for one of them. I would prefer to trade down if we cannot get Chubb, but DL is going to go fast after pick 5…because there isn’t a lot to choose from at the top. Teams will scramble for what is there.

So reach if we have to.

No one will complain when the player shows he was worth it.

  25. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    @StPeteBucsFan

Nelson would certainly be a great pick…but I’m a bit tired of playing catch up all the time in games. Our team showed it can come from behind…so if we can just limit the other team at the line, we’ll probably win twice as many games.

    10-5.

  26. SCBucsFan Says:

From what I read I’d rather Nelson but if its Chubb I’m ok. I think Nelson will be an All Pro while Chubb will be good but not elite. Then again I have a real job that isn’t a scout so I might be 100% wrong.

  27. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Besides…contrary to popular belief, I think our OL lineup will be:

    Right Tackle – Dotson
    Right Guard – Sweezy
    Center – Marpet
    Left Guard – Jensen (yup)
    Left Tackle – Smith

Marpet is turning into a great Center. Sweezy looked much better the last few games he played. Last year, Joe mentioned that it was unlikely Sweezy would have an impact in his first year back. Assuming he was right (and he clearly was), that means Sweezy will play much better this year.

That would be a beast of a OL.

Then imagine if RT Mike McGlinchey falls to us in round 3 or so. Dotson’s replacement will develop for a year.

  28. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Putting Jenson at Center does not address two spots. It ignores the one spot of need we have on the line this year. Left Guard.

And you do not want to move Sweezy over to Left side, because that would set him back. Better to keep things as they are and put Jenson at Left Guard, which is his natural position anyway.

  29. SrqBucsFan Says:

Trade GMC and our 7th pick to Denver for their 5th pick and go get Chubbs

  30. SrqBucsFan Says:

Nah keep Swerzy on the right and let Marpet take the left.

  31. JimmyJack Says:

Bonzai……Everything I hear it sounds like Jensen will be C.

You’re right about LG….I’m for keeping Sweezy or Pamphile here and use our 2nd rounder to draft another G to compete with them. I’ve seen a lot of guards worthy of that pick.

Of course Nelson could be our guy too.

But still need some depth…..I don’t mind Evan Smith if he’s still around.

  32. Joeypoppems Says:

The difference between drafting Chubb and drafting Nelson is that the OG class is deeper than the DE class.

The OGs that will be available on day 2 will be better than the DEs available on day 2.

  33. Pa Privateer Says:

I would love to move up and get Barkley or Chubb, but not by giving up premium picks. If we could offer a team a player and a low pick then so be it, but not a second rounder. We could get a RB or DE Hubbard with our second rounder.

  34. derrickbrooksforGM Says:

I thought this web site was family friendly, now were talking Chubb angles?!

  35. 813bucboi Says:

    bonzai

which “last few games” did sweezy play well?…..he missed the final 2 games of the year and looked bad on multiple occasions….

and joe also wrote about how sweezy was still hurt during the entire year so expecting him to improve his play is wishful thinking…..

and why would the bucs make Jensen the highest paid center if they plan to use him as a guard?……that doesn’t make sense if your Jensen…..norwell just got paid big money to be the highest paid guard…..

    your way off!!!!…lol….

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!!….NOPASSESIN2018!!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!!

  36. Marc Says:

Jason Licht was looking around at everything BUT Chubb. Lmao. Did anyone else notice that? Tf is wrong with this franchise.

  37. martinni Says:

I seldom try to draw pretty pictures of how a draft will turn out, but in this case I say plan to trade with Denver one just get the guy. We have spent the last 3 offseason bitching about not have a pass rush so put your money where your mouth is, trade-up and get the guy, don’t regurgitate about how many picks you might lose or how trading down will get you an extra 2nd rounder. Get a pair and go to the front of the line. You still have some cap space and enough picks to focus on shoring up a few other needs.

  38. BetterBuccinBelieveIt Says:

    @BobbyM,

100% agree with your take above. Well articulated and spot on throughout! And you take directly relates to the PRESENT circumstances of the Bucs in reality.

    Go Bucs!

  39. Chris Says:

Moving up with all the needs Bucs have is height of foolishness. When will we ever learn?

  40. Pickgrin Says:

    Bonzai says:
“Sweezy looked much better the last few games he played”

This narrative has gained some traction – but I’m pretty sure its not true. Maybe I need to go back and specifically watch Sweezy in those “last few games he played” just to be sure – but what I do remember is how much better our running game looked the last 2 games when Sweezy was out for the year.

Nelson is absolutely the better prospect at his position over Chubb. But our need is so great on defense in general and at DE in particular that Chubb falling to 7 would be the best case scenario for the Bucs.

This becomes doubly true since there are some pretty good Guard/Center prospects available in the 2nd and possibly 3rd rounds this year – but after Chubb – all other DE/pass rush specialists prospects in this draft seem to be projects to 1 degree or another and/or will be drafted way too high and/or are not ideal fits for a 4-3 front.

If we are somehow able to snag Chubb at #7 – perhaps the best way to end the “who should play center – Marpet or Jensen” question is to put Ali at RG, Jensen at LG and draft a true Center like Price, Ragnow or James Daniels from Iowa in either the 2nd or 3rd round.

  41. AlteredEgo Says:

Sweezy is one tweek away from life after the NFL….I really hope we find a better option for his guard spot and send him on his way….that and it would be idiotic not to play Ali Marpet at
    guard
    and not play Jensen at
    center

  42. DB55 Says:

I told ya last yr you don’t mess with athletes who have back problems. If a back problem took out Jordan there ain’t no athlete in the world who can overcome a back problem. It doesn’t take an educated man to figure that out.

  43. Mike Johnson Says:

DB..I called it also. I knew Sweez was damaged goods. Teams like the Seahawks saw that and dumped him. We..hopin and prayin..picked him up. Licht like him and Easy Sweez is still on the roster. What a franchise…..

  44. SOEbuc Says:

Taking DEs in the first round kinda scares me. Especially in the top ten and especially for the Bucs. Taking RBs are scary also but if Barkley is available that’s a no brainer. I would love to get Nelson. He’s the most sure player in the draft.

  45. martinni Says:

    Chris

Bitching for the next three years why we didn’t take a top edge rusher is stupidity. All I read about is Bennett, Calias Campbell, and how bad Buc’s management is because they let this player go or didn’t want to pay for this guy. I really don’t think most of you guys want to improve our pass rush, I think you just like getting on here everyday and crying about how bad the Buc’s are, Get a Life and on the way Trade up and get Bradley Chubb if he is still there at 5.

  46. DBS Says:

Somebody will probably guess it right. But that is all it will be is a wild guess. Not some word on the street or people in the know garbage. Because they can’t make a move until draft day and everything begins to happen. So this is really as much fun as watching Golf.

  47. 813bucboi Says:

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!!….NOPASSESIN2018!!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!!

  48. John meeks Says:

Madmax, big vita vea isn’t doing much at his pro day?well, being he doesn’t have any pass rush moves and he won’t be over powering the NFL men why would anyone be surprised ? I hear people on here acting like he is gonna be the next great defensive tackle and I think to myself have you watched tape of the guy or looked at his stats? He doesn’t even fit our defense,he needs to be in a 34 defense.he is a nose tackle in a 3-4 defense but you can’t tell some people on here that!smh

  49. John meeks Says:

SOEbuc, yea it scares me to about taking a defensive end (chubb)I’m scared the bucs won’t run like hell to the podium!

  50. Jeffbuc Says:

I love how the talking heads say Davenport is to much of a reach for the bucs at 7 but have him going anywhere from 11-18 to others teams. How is it a reach if he is the second best prospect at his position and the first is taken. I don’t get why that is a reach. So we shouldn’t draft him at 7 and get best player available then wait until the second round and get the 6-7 best defense end. Makes no sense if you like him and he fits a need you draft him
No matter where you are drafting. At 12 he is a steal at 7 they drafted way to early. I hear every year on the lend of the 1st a guy getting drafted and they all say they reached o had him as a 3rd round grade then he ends up being a stud Like the center Frederick drafted two years ago.

Nah keep Swerzy on the right and let Marpet take the left.
    ——————–

Exactly. Marpet was a left tackle in college. I don’t understand why everyone seems to think he can only play right guard.

  52. BigMacAttack Says:

I sure wish B.B. was our coach. He’s on a different level than all the rest. Greatest coach of all time. Better than Vince.

  53. I’m a Tandyman Bucs Fan Says:

Hey I’m with Jimmy Jack on this one. I too if I were Cleveland I’m taking Barkley with the first pick and that way you get the best player in the draft that is going to be an All Pro running Back. Then with the 4th pick take the next best player whether it’s a Quarterback or Nelsen or Chubb or Lamar Jackson or Mayfield. Cleveland will be a much improved team with their Free Agent picks and 1 & 4 in the draft!!! Watch out for Dem Browns!! And yes our Bucs play them this season.

  54. Glazers Almanac Says:

All I see is Licht being passive and moving out of peoples way like a passive human. I guess McCoy is rubbing off on him too.

  55. DislocatedBucsFan Says:

Did anyone else have a problem with him quitting on a bag drill for a stubbed finger!?!?!?!?
