“Same Thing”

March 27th, 2018

Carolina coach Ron Rivera identifies ugly Bucs pattern.

If it isn’t clear to the Bucs hierarchy, it is to the hierarchy of the NFC South.

Since Chucky was jettisoned after the 2009 season, the Bucs have finished in last place in all but two seasons, and those two seasons just happened to have been the only two seasons this team has had winning seasons in the post-Chucky era, 2010 and 2016.

This is why Joe refers to last place in the NFC South as “Buccaneers Cove.”

This nasty fact is not lost on NFC South coaches, at least not Riverboat Ron Rivera of the Stinking Panthers.

At this morning’s NFL coaches breakfast in Orlando, Joe asked Rivera what changed with the Bucs last year. In the first meeting, the Stinking Panthers had their way with the Bucs in a one-sided affair. In the rematch at Carolina it was a dogfight until Swaggy Baker did Swaggy Baker things.

So Joe wanted to know what changed with the Bucs. Rivera basically said, nothing changed.

“Same thing that always changes with them,” Rivera said. “Later in the year they play well. They did the same thing to us the year before and the same thing to us the year before that.”

Some how, some way, the Bucs need to figure out fast starts. Not just fast starts in games, but fast starts to the season.

It could mean the difference between a playoff run, or dropping anchor once again in Buccaneers Cove.

Kind of yet another….”what”?! column. All this “access” is really paying off.

First, Goodell says “these things take time” to Ira. And nothing else.

Second, Licht “talks Jameis investigation”…saying one word “frustrating”.

    Now this article above.

    Some earth-shattering revelations….wowsers!

    🙂

    Go Bucs!

Yada yada yada. He’ll tell you the same thing next year.
If they don’t trade McCoy, they are clueless and not really doing what’s best for this team.
I urge everyone, and I’m sorry for this joe- I’m a devoted jbf podcasts listener, to listen to the latest ian beckles podcast and the long discussion about gmc. You won’t find it anywhere else but it is spot on. Sorry again joe. I wish you find the time to listen to it yourself.

    @BetterBuccinBelievelt,

Yet you still took the time to comment. Do you think these guys are just going to tell you any and everything you want to know? Do you think you could do any better? Are you spending money on JBF, and thus expecting certain amounts of classified info? Geez, some people just love to b!tch about anything.

no one takes bucs seriously best answer he could give without thanking bucs for helping pad his career stats

Lets just see this coming yrs so called, New and Improved Bucs. If the..Whipping Post continues then its..firings all around. I think Koetter knows its kinda like, do or Die for him and his road dog..Pressbox Smitty. No excuses allowed though. Either win or get booted.

  6. ndog Says:

Maybe practicing harder with more physical periods during training camp to get ready for the physicality of the regular season?

  7. tmaxcon Says:

coaching, playing or running your organization scared is a proven failed philosophy. Just look at the failed dungy / mckay era and the pathetic 2 playoff wins wins in 6 years coupled with the waste of whyce’s hall of famers.

    Goddamn that is depressing Joe.

And McIceCream did what he does best, give up the booty and disappear when it counts most.

Buffalo, Green Bay, Carolina, never forget!!!

  10. Bucsfanman Says:

tmax- I agree, but I’ll go a step further: it’s an organizational thing. This franchise has no identity. The coaches and players merely reflect a lost franchise that is eternally searching for itself.

I don’t think the Franchise ever found itself to begin with.

Nothing changed in that second game. Carolina’s D-Line physically manhandled us for 60 minutes.

Every time we got to the red zone their D-Line made a play. Every time there was a big moment Carolina’s D-Line tore us up and our Oline whimpered. There is also the fact that our offensive guru coach called long developing plays all day allowing it to be easy for the Panthers to exploit our weakness. It was the same thing that happened in the first meeting. Bad gameplan allowed Carolina’s D-Line destroy us for 120 mins last year. And the lone time we got the ball with a chance to drive for a win what happened? Their D-Line swarmed our backfield and forced a fumble. I was not surprized……I knew we had no shot.

BS proclamations are easy to make
Facts tell the story… since 2009-
Bucs hired and fired 3 coaches
Traded or released 5- 1st round draft picks
Had a 1st round pick (qb) flake out on them
Since Licht and Koetter have come aboard:
Offensive talent has been rebuilt including franchise qb and elite receiver
Defense is being repaired this year with draft to come
True, draft and free agent mistakes have been made, but foundation for future success is being built – GMC has 2 super bowl winning DE’s- DL should be dominant barring injuries. Cancer, shmanser… try something new for a change

  16. JimmyJack Says:

Alan Bucs that’s all fine and dandy and I do agree. But that doesn’t mean squat on game day when the Bucs come out flat game after game and get beaten badly by more intense and better prepared teams.

We do have talent to compete in this league but they have to play like it bro. There is a certain attitude and mindset that good teams play with in this league. Our team just is not on that level.

They got their shot this year. So no use worrying about it now. The results have to come. There is no more waiting. They can either get this team to start competing or they can’t. They have enough pieces to get the job done. No more room for failure.

  17. Alanbucsfan Says:

    Jimmyjack- agree
    DB55- good one

  18. RayJay J Says:

-See my comment about weak training camp on your prior article.

Weak training camp, not prepared beyond week 1 when still fresh -> everyone gets hurt -> we suck -> players get healthy again and learn how to tackle/ be more physical -> team starts playing better

Only old and experienced teams can play well with soft training camps.

  19. Rod Munch Says:

Dirk at the end of the first half in Carolina having it first and goal from what, the 3 yard line, instead of trying to get a TD he literally just runs the clock out and kicks a FG. Nothing was more indicative of Dirk’s offense than that, move the ball, get the yards, then just run the clock and play for the FG because you’re worried that the defense will give up a TD in the final 13 seconds of the half.

  20. mike10 Says:

And that’s honestly the difference between us and a good team.

Joe, take that quote to Dirk/Licht and gauge their reaction…

  21. Rrsrq Says:

Why keep blaming the game on Swaggy, who’s to say they would not have got a first down/touchdown any way. What we do know is the Special teams gave up 6 in back to back weeks, yet our ST coach still has a job

  22. unbelievable Says:

    @rsrq

The ST coach and the QB coach both still have jobs.

Now THAT would have been a good question for Joe to have asked… how in the h3ll are those same guys still employed?
