“We Have Never Ever Told Our General Manager Who To Pick In The Draft”

March 27th, 2018

“Jason, why would anyone try to hang Roberto Aguayo on my family?”

Remember that CBS report from insider Prickly Pete Prisco claiming it was Bucs “ownership who pushed the pick” of Roberto Aguayo?

Joe asked Buccaneers co-chairman Joel Glazer about that today.

JoeBucsFan.com: CBS put out a report, it came from Pete Prisco their senior writer. He said ‘ownership who pushed the draft pick,’ referring to Roberto Aguayo, that it was a Team Glazer pick. Is that ridiculous?

Bucs Co-chairman Joel Glazer: We have never, ever, told our general manager who to pick in the draft. That’s all I can say. We know what’s happening. They explain to us why they’re doing things. But we have never done that. I will say this much; one thing we stress is the importance of all phases of the game, special teams, offense, defense. But that was an inaccurate report.

Interesting.

First, Glazer was adamant in the delivery of this message. (No, there’s no video. Use your imagination.)

Second, Glazer made it clear ownership does stress elements of team building on the football field. In this case, it’s a message to prioritize balance.

Lastly, Joe never bought the nonsense of the three Buccaneers co-chairmen sitting around deciding to order Jason Licht to trade up for a kicker in Round 2.

A kicker. C’mon.

  1. Rod Munch Says:

People that think the Glazers make every personal team never seem to give them credit for finding gems like Kwon or taking trading up to get Marpet.

  2. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

Instead you believe that Licht was a dumb enough GM to trade up to take a kicker on his own? At the very least the second part of that quote suggests that they may have been stressed to Licht that special teams needed to be looked at and gave him a wink or nod!

  3. DB55 Says:

Asked yourself what does Pete have to gain or loss and what would the glazers have to gain or loss?

Pete probably nothing. As for the glazers personal respect, the ability to hire any professional GM who doesn’t want to be told what to do?

Idk Joe wouldn’t be the first time a billionaire lied about what he said or did to save face.

There’s a stormy brewing better get some Jack Daniels. Birds of a feather and what not.

I’ve seen these guys in action and they’re total micro-managers at least the shortest one is but wtfdik?

  4. Rod Munch Says:

TouchDownTampaBay – Let me guess, you also believe that OJ is innocent, the moon landing was fake and Gruden had no choice but to get rid of Sapp and Lynch because of the salary cap…

  5. Jimbo Says:

TDTB…you have an active imagination. Try writing fiction.

  6. mike10 Says:

No sugar coating on behalf of the Glaziers!

One of the several head scratching moves on behalf of Licht, that’s clearly on the Glazier radar

  7. JJV Says:

They may not have told Licht who to draft but rumors had them in hot pursuit of the sumo wrestler figure skater from the Olympics.

  8. Alan Says:

Very excited about GMC 93 and JPP helping the rookies we draft adapt. I think the secondary picks we get in the first few rounds will see alot of opportunities to make big plays with Gerald and JPP going after quarterbacks this year

  9. Lamarcus Says:

    Aguoyo?

  10. Lamarcus Says:

Agouyo. It just seems unreal to draft a kicker that high( which I was for) to not be any good.

  11. JimmyJack Says:

I thought it was a good move at the time. It just so happens he was a 2nd round bust.

It happens move on. Tampa fans just can’t let go of it for whatever reason. It’s blown way out of proportion. Missing one pick really is not as big a deal as it’s been made out to be.

We needed a kicker and kickers are a big part of the game and our GM tried to get us the best one he could. That’s why I thought it was a good pick. If it don’t work out I can accept moving on, not sure why it’s still an issue.

  12. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

So much for blaming the Aguayo pick on ownership.

  13. tmaxcon Says:

Results for over a decade prove what the glazers are doing is 100% wrong…

Nothing matters until the career loser bad character captain blowout cancer93 is out of locker room. Team is soft as its weakest link and their is no softer player in NFL than cancer93

  14. tmaxcon Says:

Team wasted its first 3 picks that draft midget cb, useless kicker and a fragile DE. The entire draft which was glazers ultimate responsibility was flushed down the toilet with no accountability…

low standards, no accountability and soft leadership is exactly why bucs have had zero hope and have zero hope moving forward

  15. Alan Says:

Maxi pad and La Marcus if you guys hate on this team so much why root for them? Are you both the kind of people that need to bitch about something all the time? Are you both ever happy? Must be exhausting.

Signed captain of the Gerarld McCoy fan club

  16. unbelievable Says:

    Alan is now trolling tmax.

    This is great.

So glad I came back to JBF a few weeks ago. I love all you crazy fckers

  17. bucs_365 Says:

Now can we move on from Aguayo? We all know it was a mistake. Licht knows it was a mistake. Look forward.

  18. tmaxcon Says:

    Alan

I feel sorry for low standard individuals who are fanboys of career failures who have never won a single meaningful game in their pathetic career while residing comfortably in the NFC basement… whose the real fan a person who supports and accepts losing or a fan who demands and only accepts excellence from their favorite team. Keep supporting career losers and I’ll keep hoping for winners.

  19. webster Says:

    @ jimmyjack

Thats because you are logical and have watched football for a long time and realize no team hits on all their picks.

  20. Ed Kerber Says:

Those that lead the league in Homeruns usually also lead the league in strikeouts.

  21. Defense Rules Says:

@Joe … “A kicker. C’mon.” You mean Jason thought that one up all by himself? And I was just getting ready to cut him a little slack. Rats.

  22. Lamarcus Says:

    Nice point Ed Kerber

  23. JAB83 Says:

    @Joe,

Next time you run an article on JL and The Bucs drafting a kicker in the second round. Would ypu please detail THE FACTS of how we had 2 PICKS in the 2nd round. I mean normally every team only gets 1.

I mean after all. If you earn yourself a little extra 💰 why not gamble it and try to get something nice that you really want and need?

    Not like we didnt

  24. Bucsfan1988 Says:

I read these posers bad-mouthing Licht for the 2016 draft pics. C’mn gimme a break!! We lost 3-4 games in the 2015-2016 season due to our kickers choking and sucking up the joint. Licht attempted to fix that issue with the overall best kicker in college football.

How the hell was ANYONE supposed to know that Aguayo would have a meltdown once he was drafted? Yeah Licht traded up to solidify a major weakness and it didn’t work. Now, move on.

And Noah Spence….The dude didn’t have shoulder issues in college. He gets drafted and then it get dislocated. AGAIN, how the hell do you blame this on Licht??? Spence had a great skill set.

Bottom line…Stop bad-mouthing Licht for the 2016 Draft…Damn, the guy is trying to improve our deficiencies but you have to have a bit of luck as well ya know. After the last couple of years, we certainly have more talent, but we do need the cards to fall in our favor sometimes…

  25. JAB83 Says:

Not sure why that posted. I wasnt done…

Anyways, look at that draft class. We resigned Bond and Benenock. Noah and VHIII still need to produce to validate them. No reason to not think they wont and be resigned. Also remember that Ryan Smith guy. He’s gonna hang around.

I really wish we coulda hung on to Vitale. Just cause We need a FB…

To me, that was an excellent draft (at the time). Sure we need a WR but we had HOFers VJax and ME. An emerging Brate and Hump. A running back who dominated the year before…

We needed a kicker… You are dopes for calling our GM a dope!!!

Oh yeah and we had a QB that STILL HASNT STOPED BREAKING RECORDS…

“If you build it, they will come.”

  26. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

LOL, Rod, no OJ is guilty and we landed on the moon. Some of us might live near people way up in the organization that confirmed that this was absolutely what happened.

  27. Broy34ThinksBarkleyFallsto7 Says:

But but but the Glazers are terrible owners but but they’re trying to tank

  28. Pickgrin Says:

So much for Joe’s contention that Dom was told by his bosses to cut Michael Bennett – all together now – for no good reason…
Cutting a guy and drafting a guy are two very different things. –Joe

  29. Duke Says:

    Rod,

    To help you understand,

OJ’ s verdict was innocent, to believe that He was guilty is not a conspiracy.
If you think that Nicole and Ron Brown were killed by drug dealers or golfers then
you think was a conspiracy to frame OJ . Or the cops are racist.

The moon landing is the widely held belief so it can in no way be considered a conspiracy. If you think that it was faked….then you think it’s a conspiracy.

Sapp and Lynch being cut for salary cap reason is not the only reason given to explain the roster move. But assume it was. There’s no conspiracy theories involved. To believe that John Grudens ego was too big to handle anyone stealing
any attention is a conspiracy theory.

Rod if you can’t understand what a conspiracy theory is or is not, I believe that it’s not in question now because you have proven in your own words you don’t,
It’s understandable to everyone why you are so confused. If you are still confused
I believe that it’s highly probable, this should help you save face next time.
A conspiracy theory is a rejection of the reported facts of an event and the belief that the truth is being purposely concealed from the public for the reason that the truth is too damaging to the real perp if that was known by the public.

The Bucs cutting a player is not important or interesting to but a few people, there is nothing to lose by telling the truth, nor is there consequences. Only a deranged mind would consider the cutting of two old and one injured on ir players
anything out of the ordinary. No body really cares about the team nationwide or
    even locally .

If there is a great disinformation campaign in place
Then riddle me this NUT job……….why would the truth be so necessary to conceal. Especially when the coach and GM are way gone. Why is the truth so dangerous if known…..

  30. Duke Says:

    Rod,

All in all your perspective is solid. With this topic your a flat earther

  31. derrickbrooksforGM Says:

noooooooo shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit-aki. The stupid spin that the Glazers pushed the pick I knew was BS the minute I heard it.

  32. Bob Higginbotham Says:

Very enlightening Joe. Always wondered about that!
