Keith Tandy Will Return

It’s not often that a drafted Buccaneer signs a third contract to stay with the teamBut Keith Tandy is a survivor, a guy Dirk Koetter calls a “glue guy.”

Of course, one could argue the Bucs need to scrape off as much old glue as they can and find new glue, but that’s a story for another day.

Today, Bucs fans can celebrate safety Tandy returning for his seventh season in Tampa.

As Joe wrote early this week, the Bucs floated offers to Tandy and Robert McClain, ones that weren’t going to wow anybody and the kind that let the players know they were wanted but not craved.

Tandy, 29, apparently likes Tampa and his ever-changing role. After four interceptions in the second half of the 2016 season, Tandy was buried on the bench last year by Bucs coaches and some of that was due to being banged up.

That’s old news now. The Bucs keep a special teams cog and a good role model for Justin Evans, and a guy who’s shown he can get the job done in this Mike Smith system, and in others.

If Tandy is your third or fourth safety, then you’re probably doing something right.

????….did we sign a safety?……I prefer tandy over conte which would make tandy 1 of our starting safeties…..

it is what it is tho……keep building depth for the next regime…..

    no urgency…no excuse

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!!

  9. I'm a Tandyman Bucs Fan Says:

What’s wrong Lamarcus when Smith and Koetter let him play he had more interceptions and tackles than any Safety in the NFL over the 5 game span he played in 2016. He played none during the 2017 season and they won 5 games. Play him again and the Bucs will win again. Not play him and TMax Rule will occur……4 & 12. Licht or someone see’s #37’s value or they would not have signed him for a 3rd Contract. Good Luck Tandy and Good Luck Bucs!!!!

  10. BuccaneEric75 Says:

    Tyrann Mathieu released!

  11. lambchop Says:

This guy is an on field coach. He got VH3 into the right position during his rookie year so many times. He’ll be coach material some day. And you can’t overlook his contribution to the Special Teams. Role player who didn’t whine like TJ Ward. Good locker room presence. He’s a good rotational player. Sometimes the best signings are the ones that don’t get away. He’s not elite, but he’s definitely a “glue guy” that plays an important role on a team that’s struggling. We’re not exactly NFL royalty that can afford to turn away players right now.

  12. I'm tired and 87 is right Says:

We have got to get Tyrann!!! Come on Bucs don’t let me down.

  13. Lamarcus Says:

    Lambchop

We don’t need infield coaches. We need wins and results.

  14. Lamarcus Says:

Tj Ward whined cuz Tandy missed a game saving tackle in Buffalo.

  15. GhostofSchiano Says:

Let me get this straight. We have re-signed most all of our players from last years team. Same coaches, same playbooks, same approach, same system etc., etc. The fan base is told over and over again “We are so close” but last year in 16 games you proved you were far away, not close.

“The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.”

I see a whole new regime in 2019.

  16. lambchop Says:

Honey Badger is damaged goods unfortunately. Not what he used to be. The Cards drafting Budda Baker last year and releasing the badger tells you everything you need to know.

  17. BlogTalkFootball Says:

Sign the Honey Badger! That would instantly upgrade the secondary!

  18. VA BUC Says:

The Honey Badger has been released GO GET HIM …PUT BUCKNER ON THE JET WITH JASON AND GO GET HIM OR HE’LL END UP IN TENNESSEE

  19. Evolvingbucfan Says:

How have we made the defense better? still waiting.

  20. Alaskabuc Says:

Tandy who couldn’t even get his starting spot back? WTF? Go get the honey badger and give up a 2nd to the cowboys for Irving and quit swinging a little stick.

  21. OneBucPerson Says:

Tyrann Mathieu is good enough to play both corner and safety, but I’d sign him as a FS and move Justin Evans over to SS.

  22. lambchop Says:

    Lamarcus,

Ward whined cuz he wasn’t starting. And we need a guy like Tandy now when we can’t even attract a fly to a light bulb. This team is going to rely heavily on draft picks past and future. There are too many good teams and money flowing for anyone to come to the Bucs right now. Gonna be a process to rebuild the franchise as a desirable destination. Every team has role players and mentors in the locker room. Compared to DE and RB, S comes in 3rd. We still need a OG if Sweezy is damaged goods.

  23. I’m a Tandyman Bucs Fan Says:

Lamarcus …Ward whined cause someone stole his Bong. He was s loser and a Cancer in the Locker Room. You need to get off Tandy and realize his importance to this team. He is a Team player, a true professional that prepares more than any player on the Bucs team. Jameis says Keith is at One Bucs place as much as he himself is. Better be thankful the Bucs resigned him. Don’t be surprised with his attitude, approach and work ethic that he doesn’t work himself back in the starting lineup and the Bucs will win agai and I will be here to remind you how wrong you were.

  24. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

    get the honey badger ASAP

  25. Bucn Enough Says:

    Get to 2019 ASAP!

  26. lambchop Says:

The guy played hurt last year. I’m hoping, when he gets his rotations, he balls out like the end of 2016. That goes for the entire defense. Smitty has to get the lion’s share of the blame for (1) not realizing his starting DL’s best years were behind them and (2) how is it possible that every defensive player missed tackles, were out of position, were unsure of their responsibility, lost containment and gap integrity, lacked confidence? That only happens when the players don’t understand the system or it changes out of their skill set. Smitty doesn’t seem to understand how to maximize the strength of his players and put them in a position to succeed. That DL left the secondary on an island giving opposing QBs and RBs too much time to pick apart the D.

  27. Mickman Says:

We continue to sign our same old players expecting a diffrent result…Insanity!

  28. Rod Munch Says:

I like Tandy and glad he’s back – but the coaches have already shown he won’t get any playing time so this doesn’t really help anyone.

  29. StPeteBucsFan Says:

The Tandy man can!!! Experience is the best teacher. I like his half dozen years in the league and I really like that it’s all been with the Bucs.

We are entering Smitty’s 3rd year. His guys should now have his defense and even the way he thinks down pat. Yeah he needs a DL. So trade the draft for Chubb and Vea…and sign Suh…the DL goes from team weakness to a strength in one off season.

As 813 likes to say….NO MORE EXCUSES! It’s there for the taking.

  30. LakeLand Says:

Honey Badger is a One Hit Wonder, who refused to take as pay cut. Why would he take less money for a new team?

  31. mike10 Says:

I’m glad Tandy is back.. but go get some playmakers in the secondary!

  32. Bucsfanman Says:

My man, Tandyman! I know you’re happy!!!!
This is a solid signing. Nothing exciting, but at least we won’t be clamoring for positions outside of our TRUE need: DE

  33. I'm a Tandyman Bucs Fan Says:

Hey Rod….I appreciate you recognizing Keith’s talent. Unless Smith is a total Dumb Ass he has to see that when #37 was on the field those 5 games in 2016 and the team was winning Tandy was “Part” of the reason. He sat him pretty much the entire 2017 season and we all seen what happened there. I Coached for 27 years and we all as Coaches put the people on the field that we know are going to GIVE US THE BEST CHANCE TO WIN!!! That IS WHAT Coaching is all about…….W I N N I N G!!!!!! Just hope Smith gives him a chance unless they sign another Pro Bowl Safety who doesn’t hit the Bong and is really a Pro Bowler and then Tandy will battle him because that is the way he is wrapped!!!!

  34. I'm a Tandyman Bucs Fan Says:

Hey Bucfanman My Man!!!! Yep pretty happy day. Keith is excited to remain in Tampa. I am glad too cause I can continue to have dialogue with good people like you!!!!! GO BUCS!!!!! We will get this Ship righted!!!!!

  35. Pickgrin Says:

Excellent to get Tandy back – for a more than fair price im quite sure.

    Glue guy indeed.

Bucs seem intent to stick it in all the naysayers faces by winning with their “their” guys in 2018. That or die trying I suppose…

  36. NFLNut Says:

    GREAT move provided he’s cheap

  37. First Down Tampa Bay Says:

    TANDYLAND

  38. Lamarcus Says:

Tandy ain’t talent enough to be a starter.

  39. Lamarcus Says:

Tandy been eating too much candy like the pizza man from Blue Streak movie.

  40. I’m a Tandyman Bucs Fan Says:

Lamarcus how did he do as a starter those 5 games he started for Conte at the end of 2016 when they won 9 and lost 6?

  41. I’m a Tandyman Bucs Fan Says:

Lamarcus….Or better yet how did the Bucs do when Koetter and Smith left him on the sidelines the entire 2017 season? I think that should tell you he is starting material and you like Smith and Koetter are very bad at evaluating talent. It is what it is Brother. You can try to make it what you want!

  42. Lamarcus Says:

Ok I do respect Tandy for that run. He close out games our own GMC can’t do.

Outside of that. Tandy ain’t nobody

  43. I’m a Tandyman Bucs Fan Says:

What you just tried to say makes no sense. Can you interpret that so I can understand what the hell your trying to say!!! Not that it really matters because you obviously don’t know what your talking about.

  44. Lamarcus Says:

He is a backup. We need a starter next to Justin Evans

  45. I’m a Tandyman Bucs Fan Says:

Oh ok Lamarcus. He will battle and probably prove you wrong and be that starter beside Evans. Rear ends are like opinions you got yours and I got mine. Just can’t figure out how you and TMax say he isn’t a starter when they win with him and lose when he isn’t playing. I may be wrong but I may not!!!

  46. Lamarcus Says:

He has been battling 6 years and only a 4 game run. Bench player following that. That’s a let down. Blame all you want but that’s on Tandy. He should be getting a 4 year 30 mil instead of what he today. He is a back up

  47. Lamarcus Says:

He will start 5th on depth chart

  48. I’m a Tandyman Bucs Fan Says:

Ok Lamarcus. Not wasting my time on someone that don’t know what they are talking about. You win. In your own mind.
