Fun With Kickers

March 12th, 2018

Not safe

Patrick Murray better not be counting his chickens.

In what has become a fun merry-go-round tradition of the Bucs, it seems the position of kicker is very much wide open

Jenna Laine of ESPN reports Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht had his eye on a kicker in free agency, but was thwarted.

Source tells me the Bucs were trying to land former Florida State kicker Dustin Hopkins but he re-signed with the Redskins instead.

So get ready folks. Looks like we are back on the amusement ride called “kicker.”

Whee!

Keep an eye on Caleb Sturgis.

    It never ends….

  2. Baz Says:

Why shouldn’t they look to upgrade any upgradeable position? As much as I like Murray, he didn’t prove to be a future All-Pro kicker last year, so why not bring in competition.
On another note, Tamba Hali was just released by the Chiefs! Hmmm…

I wonder what other rides are at this bucs amusement park?

“Jameis can makes no mistakes haunted house”
    “Coaching carousel”
“No pressure on opposing QB experience”
    “Soft coverage snow cones”
    “2 yards per run”
“No TDs in the 1st half shuttle”

    Anymore?

  5. BetterBuccinBelieveIt Says:

    @Baz,

Umm, Tamba Hali is 34 coming off a major knee injury. If Bucs wouldn’t go after 32 year old Bennett, they certainly wouldn’t entertain a 34 year old with worse injury history…

    DE Vinny Curry..

    Go Bucs!

  6. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Bring in Kyle Brenda for kickoffs, 65 yard FGs & rushing the passer…let Murray do the rest

As long as there’s an Aguayo to be drafted, no kicker is safe!!!

At least we have a great punter! 1/2 of our kicking game is OK. The other half…not so much.

I know a lot of people in this joint like to say “letting Michael Bennett walk” was one of the dumbest moves for this club – but I have another one for you – maybe one of the worst moves in recent history – Letting Matt Bryant get away. . . dude has been money for nearly at decade now in ATL. . . 🙁

^^^ I hear you Altered. Score TDs instead of FGs! Amen.

Using the Free Agent Tracker over at Rotoworld, courtesy of Mr. Evan Silva, the Kickers section shows that Cody Parkey is also available along with Catanzaro, Sturgis, others.

Parkey had good years in Philly, but looking at his 2017 stats with Miami, his 91% success rate and decent stats from 40-50 yards, and stronger leg than Sturgis, others make him the clear option to bring in competition for Murray.

Sturgis had 2 injuries late in 2017, plus had a 83% success rate overall in 2017. No thanks!

    Go Bucs!

  17. LifeOfABucFan Says:

LOL @ you all with the Buc Amusement Park experience..love the ““I’ve run out of time playclock tilt-a-whirl” hahaha!!!!!!!!

  18. Lamarcus Says:

This team can’t even get it right with the kicker position

  19. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I already named the kicker we should go after a coupled days ago on my wishlist.

  20. Baz Says:

    @BetterBuccinBelieveIt

Umm, they DID go after Michael Bennett, they just weren’t willing to give up picks for him. And I know Hali has had injury problems, and I don’t expect Tampa to go after him, but he’s shown productivity and it wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world to sign him to a 2-year non-guaranteed contract and bring him in on passing downs… now would it?

And Vinny Curry will be 30yo this summer, only had 9 sacks one year and never more than 4 sacks any other year. Nah, pass.

  21. Baz Says:

GRIMES IS BACK FOR 1-YEAR $10M!
    Yesssssssss!!!!

  22. TrollSlayer Says:

cam brate and brent grimes re-signed at least thats some good news

  23. Jolly Bucs Fan Says:

Grimes and Glanton are signed. Cam Brate extended. All good moves

  24. JimmyJack Says:

I’ve never seen a franchise struggle at kicker as many years in a row as our Bucs. It’s almost unreal. Most teams find a way to fix the position in one offseason, even midseason sometimes. The Bucs haven’t had a kicker in at least 4 seasons now. Can’t remember how many more than that.

Our lack of kicking is more embarrassing then passrush IMO. Just because it’s so much easier to fix. What a disgrace.

  25. BetterBuccinBelieveIt Says:

@Baz….sounds like the kind of guy that comes in 2nd in your fantasy league 🙂

    It’s alright Baz….all good. 🙂 Just ankle-biter noise.

    Go Bucs!

  26. First Down Tampa Bay Says:

There are three constants in life:

Death, Taxes, and the inability of the Bucs to find a Kicker

  27. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

UF kicker could be had in 2nd round

  28. Rod Munch Says:

What is going on with Cairo Santos? I saw the Bears signed him late last season but then he got injured again, but not sure if he’s still under contract or not. He was excellent with KC, so if available he should be given a look.

Also of course is Sebastian Janikowski – he’d be on my list of guys to bring in, I’d want to see if he still has a big leg, if so he’d be my pick.

Also a little fun fact, even with all the Roberto hate he had a better rookie season than the first round pick Janikowski. The difference is in 2000 Twitter didn’t exist so Janikowski got to stick around for another year and wasn’t ran out of town. In fact Janikowski has had 3 seasons worse than Roberto’s rookie year. Just thought I’d share that.

As for everyone complaining about how the Bucs are always awful at kicker, that’s pure nonsense. Connor Barth when he left the Bucs after Roberto was drafted, he left as the 8th most accurate kicker in the HISTORY of the NFL. The Bucs have had some very good kickers, from the all-time legend Donald Igwebuike, Steve Christie, John Carney, Matt Bryant and lots of other average kickers. In fact it’s very rare when the Bucs have had poor kicking – normally they’re league average and most years better than that.

  29. AlteredEgo Says:

and Neil O’Donahue….who kicked the Buc’s into the playoffs in the deluge…when the stadium steps looked like white water rapids

  30. BigMacAttack Says:

Zero pass rush. Lousy blocking up front. And we’re worried about a kicker. Jameis should be out throwing balls to DJax and Mike every day. GMC should have his fatass in the gym. This team is a joke and I hope they can prove me wrong. They should change “Siege the day” motto to “where’s my check?”.

  31. Willy D Buc Says:

    GET CALEB!!

  32. BigMacAttack Says:

Drew Bree’s had one of the worst QB type injuries ever when the Saints signed him. Probably the best free agent signing in the history of the National Felon League.

  33. Rod Munch Says:

BigMacAttack – The kicker last year literally lost the Bucs the Pats game, the home Falcons game, and the game at Carolina. You can worry about kicker AND worry about other things at the same time you dope.

  34. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Kicker Cody Parkey is the one I named on my wishlist.

    Very good kicker. Instant upgrade.
