Cardinals Applaud Buckner Hire

February 20th, 2018

Cardinals players offer props.

The Cardinals seem impressed.

If one is to take the word of some Cardinals players, the Bucs made a helluva coaching hire yesterday.

Upon hearing the news that the Bucs signed Brentson Buckner to take over the defensive line, players who played for him and with him in Phoenix are giving Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht and coach Dirk Koetter a thumbs-up with the move.

Also, Cardinals corner Patrick Peterson retweeted Powers’ tweet about how Buckner is a future defensive coordinator.

Did anyone notice any Bucs players on social media bemoaning Jay Hayes leaving the Bucs?

Based on the headline I would say “who cares?”- we hear this sorts thing all the time when we sign players.

HOWEVER- reading those things from players actually gives me some hope and excitement.

Hope he’s the real deal, and we give him more talent to work with!

  2. Maze Says:

JL may have landed another stud coach to rival Monken! Now somehow, someway the Bucs need Robert Quinn

  3. Buccaneer scotty Says:

    Next head coach?

  4. pewterpirate99 Says:

Wow, I’m actually impressed with the hire! Good job Licht! Finally a move I’m excited about. Now go find him the right D-linemen to coach and we’ll have something here to look forward to as far as the D-line goes. I’m all for bringing in Julius Peppers if he wants to come in. And yes I know he’s 38, but at 38 yrs old he’s still better than anything we have on our D-line…..including Geraldine. Eleven sacks at 38 years old is pretty damn good, so if we’re willing to pay old guys that don’t produce then lets pay a guy that is still producing….that is if he wants to come here. He may want to retire with the Panthers where it all began for him.

    GO BUCS!!!!!!!!

  5. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Amazed that Licht pulled his off, since basically him and his coaches are all dead men walking after this year, if we don’t turn this ship around.
I remember when Brentson Buckner was a Panther, and terrorized us.
    Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. tmaxcon Says:

I’ll give Buckner credit he is a brave man coming to the career killing glazer organization and taking on cancer93. There have been no known previous survivors. good luck mr Buckner. I salute your courage. Hard nose coaches that demand results have very short careers in the soft and weak dline room.

  7. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    All these Cardinals huh?

Tell me. Why isn’t he still oaching with them?

  8. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

What the man did as a player? Does not matter. He’s a coach now, not a player.

I think it is a good hire. Should make things interesting. But I don’t buy into hype. If he was that god he would not have been available.

But I do like his aggressive nature.

  9. Bird Says:

Means players respect Him a lot.

And players with each other whether they talk about going somewhere depending on a coach they may or may not have concerns about.

Maybe a free agent will come to Tampa to get no income tax , great field, great weather and the gulf coast to go with a beloved position coach. Just saying. We need all the help we can get cause we will be overpaying for guys.

  10. Bang4 YaBuc Says:

Cancer 93 lol. This isn’t Suh we’re talking about. It’s funny how fans on the outside want him gone and says he sucks and he’s lazy but the people who actually fight in the trenches OL and DL lineman know he’s the real deal. I don’t think Aaron Donald would look up to someone who isn’t “great”

  11. Bird Says:

Tyreian mathieu to bucs? I know he has injury issues. Still young though. Don’t let him practice during week. But he is a thumper /player in box safety and could be a cut casualty. Would go great with Evans.

One less player off the long checklist of defensive ends and dbs once we draft vita vea.

Don’t even stroke tmaxwearsathong ‘s repeated same post that he has been posting for the last few years . Not worth it.

What’s funny is he claims he just sold his businesses and lives happily retired in Colorado.

Yah right. I can smell the bs in Orlando. He Is only a troll who is likely a saints fan that lives in his moms basement and sometimes pays rent. “Mom bring the meatloaf”.

Didn’t we hear similar stories 2 years ago when Jay Hayes was hired?

  14. University of Seffner Says:

The hire sounds nice, but I ain’t believing anything until I see it on the field.

  15. Jim Says:

Waterboy – here is the exact quote from Joebucsfan: “On hiring assistants, these same NFL people believe grabbing Mike Smith as defensive coordinator was smart but the real heist was getting Bengals defensive line coach Jay Hayes.”

  16. D-Rome Says:

Jay Hayes was supposed to be an excellent D-Line coach. It seems when supposedly good players or coaches come to the Bucs they get sucked into this vortex that strips away any semblance of good decision making or fierce competitiveness.

Let’s not forget that nearly a year ago Chris Baker was a great signing and that retaining Mike Smith was arguably the best off-season move the Bucs made.

  17. AC Says:

guys like bucanner bonzai piss me off.. maybe he’s not coaching there because they just had their coach retire/step down so like most new coaches in the NFL they bring in their own guys. Always looking to talk spit instead of just being a fan.. why are you on the couch commentating instead of working for a NFL team since you know it all big guy? GIVE ME A BREAK

  18. Ball Head Says:

I DON’T GET IT,WHY THESE DUDES KEEPS CALLING GMC SOFT!!! I BET NONE OF U COULD BLOCK HIM. WHEN HAS HE EVER HAD ANY HEIP ON THE D LINE.WHAT 6STRAIGHT PRO BOWLS, DOESN’T GET INTO OFF SEASON TROUBLE, HE’S NOT TRICKING WITH SLUTT IN MOTELS AND NOT PAYING THEN, WARREN SAPP😂😁😀. IT’S NOT HIS FAULT THAT HE GAS HAD 4,5, DIFFERENT GEAD COACHES.

Um…get in touch with reality, buddy. It is late in the season for coach hirings. Every team that needed a DLine coach passed on him. Why?

As I said, I THINK it is a good hire (apparently you missed that). But there is a reason he was available after so many teams needed to fill the same role. If you cannot grasp that, you are the one with the problem, not me.

    ^^BINGO^^

we heard how smitty would be a HC and hayes would take over as DC….

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!

  21. Bucs Brand Says:

Interesting……did they run a 3-4 over there in Arizona?

  22. Mike Johnson Says:

Bucs got it wrong though. They probably should have given Buckner a shot at DC and demoted Mike Smith. You can hide in the pressbox Smitty but you cannot run!!

  23. Joe Says:

Tell me. Why isn’t he still oaching with them?

    Once again, Bruce Arians retired.

  24. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

No coach will succeed with the garbage DEs this team has! I assume he had no other options. Taking over that line is the equivalent of getting hired as the HC of the Browns. It will be short lived and most likely will tarnish his resume. When the Bucs hired Hayes he was considered a great DL coach. Now he is on the streets and wil have a hard time finding work.

  25. DB55 Says:

Saw some interviews he’s done and I’m thinking this guy may be a perfect fit for the Bucs. He’s low key confident, funny and a country boy. He actually does remind me of Sapp in the way the he speak and loves the game. Straight shooter with class, humor and experience.

Did licht hire this guy? I could see him moving up the ranks pretty quickly.

Best quote: you can’t teach players to play hard, you can teach technique but not heart.

Good luck brother, you might have to put a whole foot up somebodies arse before the mini camp even starts.

  26. NFLNut Says:

Man, I wish this could have happened last year as he could have brought Calais Campbell and Tony Jefferson with him … those were the two free agents I wanted more than anyone last year and they would have drastically improved our defense I believe … who knows, maybe he can bring the Honey Badger with him this year as there are rumors the Cardinals don’t want to pay him …

Regardless, YES, I think there is a realistic chance that if he can turn around the defense but the team still doesn’t make the playoffs that he could replace Smith as DC and maybe even Koetter as HC … especially if he is truly all about “family” the way Jameis is!
