Chucky: It’s Up To Jameis

December 17th, 2017

“G@# dammit Jameis, if you fumble once on my night, I’m having my kid Deuce put you in a headlock. Have you seen his f%$#ing arms? Jiminy Christmas!”

The greatest coach in Bucs history believes the Bucs need America’s Quarterback to come through Monday night.

Speaking via phone with Scott Smith and Casey Phillips of Buccaneers.com, Chucky didn’t sound all that enthused about the Bucs when asked to break down Monday night’s game.

Joe can’t blame him.

The way Chucky sees it, there is but one hope. And that is Pro Bowler Jameis Winston to play like a Pro Bowler.

“It’s going to be a real challenge for Tampa,” Chucky said. “They have got to be prepared to win a shootout I think, and it is going to be largely on Jameis Winston’s shoulders to take care of the football and make some plays in the passing game. Hopefully they can make this thing exciting and pull it out in the end. That would be really cool.”

The memory of Julio Jones running through the Bucs defense like Usain Bolt in a track meet is all to fresh in Chucky’s memory.

“Can’t allow Julio to ruin the game like he did a few weeks ago<‘ Chucky said.

If Jones racks up 200 yards again on the Bucs and the game turns into a blowout, it won’t be that heads may roll at One Buc Palace in a couple of weeks, it will be how many.

When it happens again because the backs play soft coverage and the defensive line can’t break thru a wet Publix bag and now the lbs can’t tackle and stuff the run. Defense can’t get off the field on 3rd&15 instead give up 30yd tds and the DC makes NO adjustments then Mike Smith needs to be fired at halftime if the score is 35 to 17. Jameis will probably throw a few picks because he’s going to feel the need to force the ball and make a play. Falcons roasted Prescott for 8 sacks how many will they get when our line gave up 7 to Greenbay a few weeks back? Welcome Back Koetter only calls 7 drop passing no quick slants or seam passes so what can we expect? Koetter is a detriment to a free baller like Jameis because he has him too worried about making a mistake instead of playing instinctively.

Outside of any truly viable top tier coaching candidates I think Gruden would be a great teacher for Jameis. He has that hardness in your face style Jameis needs. Someone who’s going to constantly challenge him on the dumb throws he makes as well as coach him up on the things he does well. He would feed Jameis need to become great. He took 2 journeymen qbs in Biatch Gannon and Bull Johnson and turned them into Superbowl qbs. Plus being on BSPN as a commentator he has seen first hand all the strengths and weaknesses of most of the teams. Sure he got fired after finishing 9-7 but that happened because that so called great defense with the likes of Derrick Brooks and John Lynch and Ronde Barber quit on him and the fans when Monte Kiffen left the team with 4 games still to go. Maybe they blamed him for that. Still they are reprehensible for the obvious quit job they orchestrated. Sure I know some don’t want us to pull back from the past but sometimes a blast from the past is what you need to propel you into the future!

  2. LifeOfABucFan Says:

That’s okay kids…Chucky will be able to make Jameis a good QB for a change..

    #GrudenForCoach #BringGrudenBack

  3. LifeOfABucFan Says:

Man, David up above summed it all so perfect…

  4. MadMax Says:

Its up to so much more than JW#3. Just dont be surprised when he shows the same ole Jameis. Look, the game is already over, many of us know that. What we’ll see in JW’s performance will be Josh Freemanish staring down ME13, overthrows, underthrows, a few int’s and a fumble or two….then some kind of magical looking comeback attempt in the 4th quarter since the opposing team’s D has relaxed a little. And if we get close to tying, ONLY TO BE SQUASHED AGAIN BY OUR D IN THE FINAL FEW MINUTES!

GO SUCCANEERS! (I love em but I hate em)

  5. NFLNut Says:

    ********************

Matt Ryan played horrible, threw 3 picks and his team still WON against the Saints … Jameis played better than that against the Lions and his team LOST … the Bucs are most likely going to get spanked Monday night.
    Falcons 38 Bucs 23

Now, of course I want to see Jameis have a great game and all BUT I do NOT want the Bucs to win … if they lose-out they should get the #5 pick which should land them either Bradley Chubb or Saquon Barkley … I’d rather have one of those studs than a meaningless win and a far lesser player in the draft … remember getting Hargreaves instead of Jalen Ramsay? My point exactly!

  6. LifeOfABucFan Says:

MadMax is so spot on…opposing team knows they can chill out, not risk injury..but if the Bucs look they are coming back, they can just put their battery-packs back on and WHOOP US!!!!!

I agree, let’s lose out..unless we can ruin one of our NFC South teams from making the playoffs..

  7. NFLNut Says:

Jameis is 3-1 against Matt Ryan … but this Bucs team SUCKS and I see a blowout coming … and if that’s the case, if Jameis feels the team is completely outmanned and needs miracles to win, I could see him throw 3+ picks trying to make hero throws … I’ll love him for it, but others will kill him for it and whine about efficiency, pretending that had he checked down the team wouldn’t have got blown out … which it would have anyways

  8. onetrickpony Says:

    Well said David
Its a sad day when all we have, is hopeing to lose for picks, which is happening to frequently.

  9. Big Stinky Says:

What else is new? It’s ALWAYS on Jameis’ shoulders EVERY game. That’s why we are 4-9 and not 8-5 or better, games are too close to be turning the ball over. JW has cost us the last two games with turnovers, not willing to take a sack. Hope he plays better next year because he is the reason we have missed the Playoffs both of Dirk’s seasons as HC. Blame the defense if you want but Winston is the MAIN reason this TEAM can’t get over the hump. Good QB’s can win games on their own but Jameis needs the whole team to play well to win consistently. He has played better this year in a few games but he is STILL to blame for our record right now. I can’t wait until next year, he has to get better, right? Imagine how good we could be if he just made a few more plays each game, or a few LESS mistakes. He has 41 INT’s in 42 games and 12 fumbles on top of that. Just protect the football and we will have a chance to win, period!

  10. Bob in Valrico Says:

Blaming the collapse in Gruden’s last year on the defense is is not realistic. Chucky was in
charge of player personnel. He let Sapp and Lynch walk in 2003 ,Two key parts of
of our once great defense. His inability to fix the rift between him and Keyshawn,
led to signing of Tim Brown. Which one would you rather have 1000 yards from
the Johnson or the 200 yards that Brown contributed.? Always thought that
Keyshawn’s ego didn’t quite match up his skillset, but he was very good at moving the chains.

  11. Larry Says:

You are what your record says you are. On a good day, the Bucs are average at best. The Bucs coaches and GM are average. In his 3rd year, Winston is average. Compare Winston to Prescott, Wintz or Goff. All 2nd year players but doing a much better job than Winston. He gave the ball away in College. Doing the same in the pros. You SHOULD NOT have to be making so many excuses for your franchise QB , both on and off the field. There is a reason that Winston is not in any of the Hiesman winner’s TV commercials. Too many off the field issues. On field not much better.

  12. Dewey Selmon Says:

Up to Jameis whether Gruden coaches here next year. lol

  13. Ndog Says:

So Big stinky why did we lose to Atlanta by 2 TDs when Fitz and the rest of the team didn’t turn the ball over?

  14. TheBucsAnthem Says:

After the Bucs get smacked tomorrow night……..people will be SCREAMING for a new HC.

  15. Roy T. Buford Says:

If one uses a SB win as the criteria for “greatest coach in Bucs history” as Joe seems to be doing, then clearly the biggest prize in NFL football is the only criteria. I’m much deeper than that in my analysis, especially since Gruden is not the winningest coach in Bucs history, he never won another playoff game after the SB, and in 4 of his 7 seasons coaching the Bucs, they were eirther 3rd or LAST PLACE in their division. THIS is the greatest coach in Bucs history? Not hardly. In today’s enviroment, Gruden would have been fired after his third year…from SB to consistent bottom of the division. McKay and Dungy fare better then Gruden in so many other key categories. McKay built a team from misfits with the joke “expansion draft” or real free agency; in 4 years went the NFL championship game. Dungy took a perrenial loser and build a top D. He is also the winningest coach in Bucs history. He took the team from their own goaline to the opposing teams 1 yard line so Gruden could punch it in. And it was downhill for Gruden after his first season. People wanting Gruden back, or thinking he would be considered to be back here, are forgetting key history and key facts…that got him fired way too late as it was.

  16. Roy T. Buford Says:

    Correction…NFC championship game…

  17. bigblock690 Says:

For Winston to have missed 3 games and still have about the same amount of throws yardage drop backs as Wentz /Goff /Prescott tells me all I need to know about this offense the running game sucks. The coaching should have adjusted to a short passing game like they did when Fitzpatrick was in the game…

  18. Jim Says:

    Lesson No. 1:
Coach: And this time, don’t head butt the line backer.
    Jameis: Huh?
Coach: And don’t start any fights on the sideline.
    Jameis: Uh, why not Coach?
Coach: And when they’re pulling you down, don’t try to pass, OK?
Jameis: Uh, but even when I got an open man?
Coach: Just don’t do it, OK? And remember, you can only pass BEHIND the line.
    Jameis: Gee, that’s a lot of stuff…

  19. JMarkBuc Says:

    Roy

    Excellent post..spot on.

Davidbigbucfan99, Wasn’t John Lynch in Denver, long before Gruden got fired?

If you are gonna rip some of the greatest players we’ve ever had, at least be accurate.

  20. BrianBucs Says:

You can tell that Gruden knows that Jameis is having ball protection issues by what he said. Bucs are toast if Jameis keeps turning the ball over tomorrow

  21. tmaxcon Says:

    JMarkBuc

the bucs have only 3 great players Sapp, Selmon and Brooks because of Sapp….

  22. tmaxcon Says:

none of those defenders would have reached their potential if it was not for Nickerson and Sapp they reached greatness despite playing for an ignorant one dimensional coach who failed. jameis will have to do the same as sapp did overcome a pathetic organization void of leadership.

  23. tmaxcon Says:

and before you brooks fanboys start crying I’ll just be clear…. Brooks never won a playoff game without sapp!

  24. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Duh…it’s the NFL…the pressure is always on the QB’s shoulders which is why he is tagged as a “franchise” and gets the big bucks.

Assuming they show up on defense and perhaps double Julio with Grimes underneath and Evans over the top…if all the other pieces fall into place we could play with Atlanta.

But just when we need a stop…the Falcons will convert a 3rd and 12.

Just when #3 hits DJAX in stride for a 60 yard TD the play will come back on a really stupid penalty like leg whipping at the line…or unnecessary roughness…

Just when Sims breaks a run for 33 yards there will be an unnecessary hold on the backside of the play.

And of course I haven’t accounted for any TO’s by #3.

  25. Lakeland Says:

This franchise is just plain ole pathetic. And I don’t see any changes in the near future. Just sit back and continue to enjoy the laughs. Jon Gruden is the greatest Head coach in Bucs history with a 57-55 record? A 500 coach is great, this franchise is a joke.

  26. not there yet Says:

It doesn’t matter this team will get crushed because the coaches can’t coach so yes the players look lost half the time. Indoors are talking about trading desean and Evans because the coach is too stupid to feature them in this offense but Howard can stay because he’s a rookie even though he’s not being used enough either. They will get blown out because dirk coaches not to lose just like Lovie

  27. Big Stinky Says:

    @Ndog

The Atlanta game (and others) was on the defense mostly. If the offense could just keep up in the blowout games we could have a chance. We should have won the Patriots, Bills, Packers, and Lions games, right? That’s 8-5 and we held the Panthers to 17 points. We could be 9-4 very easily if JW played a little better, that’s all. Hope he turns the corner next year, this should have been the year though IMO. I think he is going to get Dirk fired one way or another, which is crazy. I would fire Licht ASAP to send a message to the team. He is the MAIN reason this team doesn’t COMPETE! Let a new GM get a look at this team in action and decide who stays and who goes. Otherwise, he has to look at tape to see who the quitters are. #WalkThePlank #LetLichtGo

  28. SOEbuc Says:

VISA commercial Julio making catches from his mom could beat this soft ass coverage.

  29. MadMax Says:

@not there yet, YES I hope its true!!! We’re in dire need on D, and ME and djax just aint working out…..too busy being political and taking knees….millionaires already, they dont give a jit…..those two a HUGE part of the losing culture just collecting their checks!

  30. MadMax Says:

Trade them both….thoses weapons are non mfing weapons bet!

  31. G-Money Says:

Great points DavidBigFan, But we tried the blast from the past and the Glazers fired him to; and just for the sake of conversation without giving him a full opportunity to have a defensive draft. I still believe the best continuity the Bucs ever had was with Tony Dungy, Monte, and rich McKay starters, potential starters, and great young talent not seen yet. I am not a Glazer fan at all, and until they get it right, true bucs fans will end up back to the bag on the head days with this mess they keep putting in charge.

P.S. Not completely sold on Gruden return, unless he’s just willing to coach and that’s IT!!!!

  32. Dan Says:

We have no hope. Always gonna be losers. It’s a Bucs life.

  33. Bucsace Says:

Jacksonville looking good right now……wish we had someone like Tom Coughlin running the show in Tampa

  34. Duke Says:

    Bobinvalrico,

Sapp and Lynch left in 04 and Keyshawn was traded to Dallas for Joey Galloway.
Joey Galloway became the first Buccanneer receiver to have 3 consecutive 1000 yr seasons. But if we can get past those egregious errors…your point is…

  35. Bucsfan951 Says:

Win a shootout? They average under 12 points when going into the fourth quarter of games… WAKE UP JOES AND REALIZE THAT THE OFFENSE IS JUST AS BIG OF A FAILURE AS THE DEFENSE!!! Maybe an even bigger failure since they have a 1st overall pick (winston) top 10 pick in Evans, couple of 2nd rd picks in marpet and Smith, 1st rd pick in Howard, high priced fa Jackson, Godwin and brate and high priced sweezy. I can see why the defense gives up easily. They gotta have a near perfect game to keep the game winnable

  36. satchseven Says:

951 your left tackle is garbage

  37. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Maxi pad

How many playoff games did Sapp, win without Brooks?

Oh and BTW looks like John Lynch will end up with more wins than the Bucs, in his first year as GM with a,team that was devoid of talent when he got there..

Much to your dismay, I’m sure….

    Merry Christmas wack job

  38. Jmarkbuc Says:

    P.S. Maxi

You talk a lot of crap about great people, behind the security of your keyboard…bet you wouldn’t say the same things to their faces
