DE Blues; Gholston Out & Ayers Sits Out Practice

November 8th, 2017

Starters down

The Buccaneers’ thinning and ineffective defensive line to be thinner on Sunday against the Jets and Josh McCown.

Will Gholston’s scary neck injury in New Orleans was nowhere near as bad as feared, though he will not play. Dirk Koetter said Gholston is wearing a neck brace is good but not for NFL football. Not now.

Robert Ayers, the Bucs’ leading sacker among defensive ends (two sacks), was held out of practice today.

Could the Bucs end up starting Will Clarke and Darryl Tapp at DE?

Man, this isn’t pretty. McCown is completing 70 percent of his passes this season and the Bucs run the ball well.

I agree, losing these 2 takes us from bad to worse… but does anyone believe the drop-off is really that much?… I’d rather see someone with passion, looking to make a name for themself

This sentence doesn’t make any sense.

We assume you mean the Jets run the ball well since the Bucs most certainly do not.

  12. Buc1987 Says:

From the looks of it…..it doesn’t look like ANYONE on the team practices anyways…no biggie!

  13. Eric Says:

Do we have to suffer the indignity of McCown lighting us up?

Good to hear that Will Gholston’s neck injury isn’t as bad as it first seemed in the game. Still one of my favorite Bucs, even though this season hasn’t exactly been his best.

Just looked at the Bucs schedule, and something tells me we’ll start a 4-game winning streak this Sunday against the Jets. I know … bizarre, but Jets, Dolphins, Falcons & Packers are all reeling right now (ya, so are we). Jets had lost 3 in a row before last Sunday’s win against the Bills. They beat the Bills in much the same was that the Saints beat us: with the run (a whopping 67% of the Jets’ plays were runs) and with the short pass (85% of their 20 passes were short … only 3 deep). Relatively few of the Jets’ runs were in the middle; most (28-of-40 runs) were from the Tackles & out. If ever there was a time to switch to the 3-4 in earnest IMO, this is it (our LBs & interior DLine are healthy; our DEs aren’t).

  17. unbelievable Says:

    lol Destinjohnny

They should just roll with 2 DTs and 5 LBs on the field this week….

  18. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Is it possible that Gholston actually injured his neck earlier when he turned so abruptly to witness a shocking Ayers sack.

And, perhaps Ayers injured himself by making an unusual football move for him…..the sack.

Thus…the true reason why so few sacks for our Bucs…..injury avoidance.

  19. Lamarcus Says:

Unbelievable. I was think 3-4 and force gmc to de. Oh boy gmc needs to go

  20. Conte Piscateli Says:

Of you hasn’t written this Joe, no one would have known. Can’t really say I’ve seen either of them on the field this year. Seriously, Gholstons injury was the first time I’ve seen him all year.

two losers is all I see….

  24. richbucsfan Says:

This team obviously is not physically in shape to play. Soft, easily injured, weak… maybe next year, if there is one as the fans are abandoning the NFL in droves.

  25. yrbndr Says:

We all are super frustrated obviously! The bashing is not helping other than making those doing it look weak. Pull for them like true fans and lets see what happens. If at the end of the season it is obvious that significant changes need to be made they will be made! Come on! Go Bucs!

  26. yrbndr Says:

I will add I am a season ticket holder in the expensive seats!

  28. jjbucfan Says:

So we have 3 DEs on our practice squad including Channing Ward and 2 rookies, Ummmm, I thought you kept those people on the practice squad so if there were injuries, we could bring them up. I guess they are not good enough either? Channing Ward at least has some game time experience. We bring in a Jet throw away and Daryl Tapp (not Dwight Freeney who is probably a top 15 guy of all time if not better) who is 78 years old. Genius! I’m lost with this crew!

  29. Dom is gone Says:

D line has not shown up all year…. what’s one more week matter. Yrbndr… thought I was getting ripped off for even watching this garbage… be really pissed if I had expensive seats!

  34. Defense Rules Says:

Just read a couple of interesting updates on Bucs injuries. BOTH our DLine AND our OLine are now badly beaten up. Donovan Smith & Demar Dotson both missed practice today due to injuries Sunday. Will Gholston & Robert Ayers are also both hurting apparently. Take back my prediction of winning the next 4 games … way too many injuries to play a solid game given our lack of depth.

  35. Supersam Says:

Dang Jow who’s the new girl standing behind TJ Ward in his interview today? I didn’t hear a word Ward said… I lost all focus lol

  36. Supersam Says:

    Joe

  37. FortMyersDave Says:

Right now the drop is zero, in fact it might be a plus as someone on the bench might have show a heart on the field and make a play against a probably over confident Jet team that has not been favored since a trip to Cleveland…..

IMHO, players are much like JBF posters, those who truly love the Bucs, fans of other teams who want to flame Buc fans and posters who are here for a reason other than that like certain posters who continually hope the Bucs lose (hint: Polk County), hate a player (you can guess who) or try to drive an agenda we see enough off the sports board….

My 2 cents which is worth just that, I bet some on the roster care and want to win, some have quit and some are a bit egotistical and think they are above others and blame issues of the team on the “supporting staff” (in other words coaches and non-stars)…

Have a great day Buc Fans!
