Chris Baker: “Damn, We Can’t Be This Bad.”

November 6th, 2017

Disbelief

You have laugh — or cry.

It’s just part of the “Bucs life” when you read one of Tampa Bay’s free agent busts of the year publicly lament how bad the team is with eight games to play.

What next to further kick Bucs fans in the groin?

Perhaps Michael Bennett will have 6 1/2 sacks through eight games this season. Oh, wait, that already went down yesterday.

Maybe Jameis Winston will alter the pregame team pep talk and pretend to crap Ls instead of eating Ws? Or how bout Vegas declaring Josh McCown and the Jets a favorite on Sunday in Tampa?

Everything’s on the table at this point.

For now, the shake-your-damn-head meter is lit up with defensive tackle Chris “Swaggy” Baker taking to Twitter an hour after the Bucs’ beating in New Orleans. Even Baker, whose commitment level earned scrutiny in the spring and summer, can’t believe what he’s seeing and is apologizing to fans.

Here’s the Tweet:

Yeah, the Bucs are that bad and the film has told the story for weeks. But if the mess in Arizona a month ago didn’t shake Baker and the Bucs to their core, then Joe can’t imagine what will now.

just saw the pregame speech by Jameis. That’s our leader… no wonder we are in the toilet. What a joke. Bad enough he can hit open recievers but that speech and his actions on the sidelines look like he is a junior varsity qb.

  2. JJV Says:

Things are not so bad Swaggy. At least you got your cooking show to look forward to.

  3. JJV Says:

Speaking of cooking, I wish James comes up with a finger lickin’ turkey pep talk for Thanksgiving to help us digest the steady diet this team has fed us this season.

  4. JJV Says:

    *Jameis sorry typo

  5. tmaxcon Says:

he clearly did not do enough research of GMC Captained Defenses before signing here or he would understand completely YES they are that bad. No one leads a flat, lifeless and uninspired defensive unit week in and week better than Captain Blowut Cancer93

  6. Crispy Says:

I keep thinking back to the Hard Knocks episode when Swaggy taunted the Jags fans and said their team should be good for 3 wins.

  7. Not there yet Says:

Yeah Baker your team is that bad. The only way you can’t see that is your asleep instead of watching the film

Bro I love going into the archives. Pure geniuses the whole lot of youz

  9. Wells Purmort Says:

Jameis needs to shut up and stop saying the same ” I’ve got to do better” thing. He needs to slow down and play within himself. He does dumb things trying to make something out of nothing and each time we get burned. Eat the ball, play within yourself. SLow down and use touch and not power. Look at two of the best QB’s in our division Brady and Bledsow. It’s all about touch and playing within ones self. Why are we 2 and 6, it’s because our QB hasn’t learned what it takes to be a pro QB in the NFL. The real winners slow the game down, slow themselves down, and play within the game and themselves. If you can’t do that, take up[ golf.

  10. ColoradoBucs Says:

    Joe,

Swaggy is right to apologize to Bucs fans for the product we have to put up with on the field. Bucs fans who spend money on season tickets & remote Bucs fans who pay for NFL Sunday Ticket year after year deserve answers (albeit, they’ll be cliche answers).

Any chance during Koetter’s presser today that you could ask if Koetter has any message to the fans who invest their hard-earned money into a dismal football team; not just in play, but also in sideline behavior?

  11. D-Rome Says:

I just watched Jameis “eating a W”. Yeah, that was one of the most bizarre (but funny) things I have watched in quite some time.

  12. Destinjohnny Says:

Chris (buffet) baker would not be on my team.

  13. Jarid Says:

    Immature QB
    Makes bad decisions constantly
Cant throw a deep accurate ball to save his life
Panics when trailing in a game

Yes, we need help in other spots..but this dude is just a more vocal Josh Freeman..but sure..keep protecting him all ya want.

  14. AlteredEgo Says:

    You are WORSE….

  15. DB55 Says:

Truth is Baker out played gmc all season. And the Kamara play joe referenced as lack of effort I’d just like to point out that the ice cream man was gingerly speed walking down the field. If he would have could have followed Clinton downfield he could have help Evans with the tackle but why do that? He’s not here to win.

Yet if he can (and he will) get 1 sack in every other game from now till end of season he’ll be back to where he really wants to be – Disney World aka Pro Bowl. That’s all he cares about.

As his teammates all fall around him due to their never ending effort, their sacrifice and love for the game. Mr Ice Cream man just sits and wait for his post-season to start.

If Mickey ever starts a team rest assured gmc will be the owner and operator, face of the franchise and emotional leader of the Disney Ducks. (Sounds more apropos in Spanish)

  16. DB55 Says:

You people have zero fckn clue about what you’re talking about. ZERO

Put Jameis behind any half decent line and you have a top 10 qb. EASYYYYY

  17. Chris Says:

College allegiances are blinding 95% of JoeBuc fans.

  18. Duke Says:

    DB55,

I love the support for Winston. But what He is criticized for is not going to be remedied by playing with a different line. He has been with different lines in the past and these issues that fans are concerned about today didn’t originate from the last two years as a buc. So the solution isn’t that easy.

  19. C eh N eh D eh Says:

CUT THIS BUM BAKER TODAY!!!!!! Brings nothing to this team but cheering for camp kickers to miss, skipping practice and shooting his mouth off…ABSOLUTELY nothing to offer any further…

  20. 813bucboi Says:

2-6….that’s bad….you are what your record says you are….GO BUCS!!!!

  21. Tony from Los Angeles Says:

You rightfully keep bringing up Bennett, Joe – which I totally agree on. What about Donald Penn?

I’m watching him road grade the dolphins on both of Beast Mode’s touchdowns last night. Think we couldn’t have used him the past few years as the Bucs are about to admit another colossal mistake in the D. Smith experiment.

I’ve noticed a trend with the Bucs historically. Draft a guy high. Get rid of the incumbent vet and anoint the new rook before he’s earned anything. Watch as the rook underperforms from lack of competition and veteran savvy to lean on.

  22. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

DB55 love it when the past message board entries come up, I was called out for saying the defnse would be average at best, i was dead wrong on that

  23. Buc Fan South Tampa Says:

In business, when an employee starts crapping the bed like this – look toward the homelife. I wonder if his fiance has left town, found a boyfriend, she found some text messages that shouldnt be there, etc.
Like I said before, this time its players not coaches who are tanking. Either to get Dirk and Smith fired or some other reason. Ownership – do NOT fire the coaches, start releasing the players and start with the troublemakers.

  24. uckinator Says:

Try this. Make Mike Smith the Head Coach (At least he has a resume) and make Koetter just the offensive coordinator. This might just work as neither of them are going to be picked up next year anyway. What’s to lose ?

  25. Buc1987 Says:

    Talk talk talk.

  26. Mike Johnson Says:

Please fire Koetter and Smitty. Send them packing. Gruden should just go ahead and sneak Jameis his playbook now. Let Jameis have his surgery so he can be ready for next year. But No..Now you watch..Jameis will come back in 2 games and reinjure his already injured shoulder. What a pityful organization! But hey, its the..BUC WAY!!

  27. mike Says:

I called all of this way before any of this happened. Said cut fat swag the first time he opened his stupid mouth.
Called fro lights firing when he didn’t address the pass rush and was too good for.
I wouldn’t follow this koetter anywhere so why would these guys?
People on the site like LORD CORNEALIOUS or whatever his name is said I was negative for predicting the exact future.

  28. mike Says:

    too good for AP

  29. Mike Johnson Says:

I luved your little funny antics for a while there Swag. Hilarious. However, You will be packing your bags next season. Your play has not been anywheres up to par where we pay you. You gotta go Bro.
