Brent Grimes Returns To Full Participation; And More Injury News

Joe loves the thought of cornerback Brent Grimes staring down Josh McCown on Sunday at the Den of Depression.

The thought is one of the few things soothing Joe right now.

Grimes returned from his shoulder injury “limited” in practice yesterday. Today, Grimes was “full participation.”

Hallelujah!

When Grimes plays, the defense is measurably better most of the time. Grimes was hurt against Buffalo but gutted through the game and hasn’t played since. He also missed the Game 2 blowout in Minnesota with a shoulder injury.

The Bucs, however, remained quite beaten up. Robert Ayers (ankle/calf), Demar Dotson (hamstring), Will Gholston (neck), Donovan Smith (knee) and Jameis Winston (shoulder) haven’t practiced this week. And J.R. Sweezy (knee) and Gerald McCoy (shoulder) have been limited.

The Jets are a rather healthy bunch, though running back Matt Forte (knee) hasn’t practiced this week.

Injuries should not matter. Good teams step up. There is leadership on good teams. Camaraderie. Pats don’t care if they miss somebody. Next man up.

Don’t get me wrong – we have been Bitten by the injury Bug Badly, but such is life. Offense gets a first down or two, our D isn’t getting pummeled like they have been.

  2. AlteredEgo Says:

A drafted starting corner sure would be nice…this team has more holes than draft picks….

  3. 99.97.92.55.47.40.28.20.7 Says:

First Down Fitz is the solution to our pollution.

  4. AlteredEgo Says:

I’ve mentioned it before….but Jameis could learn a thing or two from Brad Johnson’s time in Tampa….he was criticized for too many check downs…on the way the postseason….

  5. 99.97.92.55.47.40.28.20.7 Says:

Josh McCown was the second coming of our Super Bowl Prom King. We should have know better than to let him walk.

  6. Dewey Selmon Says:

Guess he finally got permission from Miko.

  7. JimmyJack Says:

Sunday just seems like it will be the type of game where the team will decide to show up………….even if they win it won’t feel good, they choke whenever it matters just like they did last year. Now a lot of fans don’t care. When the team doesn’t care that’s what happens.

So what? You want to give us a showing Bucs…..I’ll tell you don’t bother. You have sucked the life out of your fan base already

  8. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

I am with JimmyJack. I am not even going to watch. I am done with this season. Sucks to wait all year for the season to start and 8 games in I don’t give a $%^@!. Just lose the next 8 and ensure a top pick in the draft.

  9. Not there yet Says:

Please don’t wait until after going 2-6 to wake up and win like 4 meaningless game the next half of the season. Don’t be good at losing and bad at tanking. I prefer you shut down the QB and tight end, I’m expecting these two teams to look like they are competing for the first pick in the draft

  10. HowToSpellRhonde Says:

Does Miko believe believe Brent was purposely injured by the defensive lines nonexistent pass-rush?

  11. TheDailyCoroner Says:

Unfortunately we are not a state with Mercy Killing. Otherwise we could terminate the Bucs, although they are doing a pretty good job themselves. Instead let’s have a Lovey Smith season and get the top draft pick. Perhaps Saquon Barkely or the top QB as trade bait. Again this time of year we are looking at the draft. 🙁

  12. Destinjohnny Says:

Hope he can covver for 14 Mississippi

  13. Lakeland Says:

If the Bucs give Air McCown time in the pocket. The game will be over before halftime.

  14. FortMyersDave Says:

As a fan I want to see the Bucs get a W even though it will probably push the Bucs from picking 3rd or 4th behind Cleveland and SF to a top 5 or 6 pick behind teams like the Giants and could hurt the club like in the year that the Bucs beat a bad Cleveland club only to move back in the draft and missed out on Megatron and Joe Thomas and ended up with Gaines Adams….

  15. Architek Says:

I can honestly say that I and other long time Bucs fans really don’t care who’s slated to play or sit, this is a dark franchise and a losing franchise.

The fans deserve better than this.

  16. Big Stinky Says:

Just TANK the rest of the season and get the BEST available PLAYERS in the Draft from now on (QB if he is as good as Wentz or better). Fire Licht ASAP and bring in a new GM that knows how to EVALUATE talent for a change. Give Koetter another year to turn this chitshow around. After all, we should be 4-4 or 5-3 if the offense played as well as it SHOULD have, or TEAM for that matter. #LetLichtGo

  17. Brandon Hendricks Says:

Hey numbers man! Injuries matter depending on who is injured. Making a blanket statement that injuries shouldn’t matter is bullspit . Injuries matter when it’s anyone of your starters especially your quarterback.

  18. Lamarcus Says:

I knew it. U can’t build around a aging corner cuz of things of nature of the sport (injuries)

    Big stinky

Another year to turn it around? How about yesterday?

  19. Brandon Hendricks Says:

Well said Stinky except for the tanking that definitely gets Koetter fires as well

  20. Lamarcus Says:

I love Koetter/licht/jw trio but let’s face it Koetter needs to upgrade that play book. But we ain’t going nowhere with that defense. The defense itself “INFLATED” itself in Minnesota. Week 2? We was done then. Jw is inaccurate but how can u fail him this way??? How can u not be saavy and/creative with Jw? There are Qbs way more off but it was action planned.

Every superbowl recipe starts with a run game and a good defense. There is no way to playoffs with this team playing way. Every week it gets worse. Every facet is a weakness to us. We cant tackle, run the ball, pass the ball, defend pass or run, Make fgs, punt, block, penalties, etc

  21. Duke Says:

    Lamarcus,

When you can’t run the ball, because 1 well…..because we can’t and 2 opposing team’s are scoring faster than a pack of sailors in Thailand on pay day
. If that’s not enough of a handicap, allegedly JW is a slow starter, inaccurate or fill in the blank, add those up and I think that calling plays has to be as challenging as a quadruple amputee competing for Gold in Boston Marathon.

I agree DK needs to be creative. But saying that “He needs to be more creative” is like suggesting Stephen Hawking needs to be more effective from the free throw line. They just ignore the fact that there’s additional factors to consider.

  22. Lamarcus Says:

    Duke ????

  23. Suck-a-neers SMH Says:

    Duke!!! Dropped the mic

  24. Clw JB Says:

It’s just too perfect – the tank leading QB comes back to put us completely out of our misery as his replacement sits injured on the sideline

Lovie is in the basement smiling ear to ear

This is the real Bucs life Glazers….thanks a lot

  25. Clw JB Says:

Street FA at both DE spots and two OT out – has anyone watched the Jets? They run to the edges and the DL is beast mode all day…

The tickets are paid for but probably just drown my sorrows at home – so disappointing

But it’s sports so I can dream of An 8 game winning streak until about 120 on Sunday!!!!

  26. ATrain Says:

    Good Lines make Good teams

Our DLine sucks ( except for Mr Sofie me melts)

OLine is a screen door that Flex Tape can’t fill

    Get some Beasts in Here

Let’s see what Jamie’s can do behind a Wall

How many picks does Hargraves get with a pass rush

  27. LongSeason Says:

We’ll be better if McCoy sits. He’s washed up.

  28. George Says:

    FortMyersDave Said:
“… the Bucs beat a bad Cleveland club only to move back in the draft and missed out on Megatron and Joe Thomas and ended up with Gaines Adams.”

Almost every week I still mourn the fact that we missed out on Joe Thomas.

  29. Big Stinky Says:

Nicely done Duke, BRAVO!!! (Standing Ovation)

  30. Big Stinky Says:

    @Duke

Funny thing is, that Fitz probably wants to beat the JETS as bad as McClown and ASJ want to beat us. What IF, the TEAM plays BETTER than it has with JW and we win? They WILL screw up our chances of getting a Top 5 player in the Draft. BUMMER!!! #ChitcanLicht #WalkThePlank

  31. Big Stinky Says:

Greenbay is the ONLY team that it looks like we WILL definitely beat though (w/out Rodgers)

  32. Big Stinky Says:

    @Lamarcus

Hate to say it but I kinda feel the same way

  33. Big Stinky Says:

    @Clw JB

Forgot that McClown only won 1 game that season and is the MAIN reason we have JW in the first place. Thanks a lot Josh!!! You were supposed to teach MG8 how to be a QB in the NFL. Yet another reason to get rid of Jason. #Thanks4theMemories #WalkThePlank

  34. Big Stinky Says:

    @Brandon Hendricks

The Glazers ALREADY need to EAT Mike Smith’s contract. I don’t think they should (or want to) EAT Dirk’s contract as well. Don’t forget, they SHOULD get rid of Licht ASAP!!! #WalkThePlank
