Bayless: NFL Screwed Up With Jameis

November 23rd, 2017

NFL has misstep.

One prominent national sports talking head thinks the NFL has already put the screws to Jameis Winston.

Speaking on his weekday gabfest, “Undisputed,” seen on FS1, co-host Skip Bayless took the NFL to task in the still days-early investigation into an allegation that the Bucs quarterback grabbed an Arizona Uber driver in her private area.

Last week, Buzzfeed.com broke the story that included a letter from the NFL to the Uber driver identified only as “Kate,” informing her it was aware of her complaint and will launch an investigation.

Bayless claims that’s not how the NFL is supposed to handle the beginnings of an investigation.

“I did have some concern early on when this story first broke that once again, post-Ezekiel Elliott case, the NFL reportedly [had] outlined the procedural process that was supposed to be followed here,” Bayless explained. “That Jameis was supposed to have been informed and the NFL Players Association was supposed to have been informed before this broke. And it broke. So they have been sort of backpedaling. Maybe they should be backpedaling, I don’t know?”

This is interesting to Joe in that if Bayless is correct, what would or should the NFLPA do in response to defend one of its members, Jameis? That’s a question Joe has no answer for.

But let’s remember here, the NFL makes up rules at it goes to satisfy the NFL. Just two years ago, the NFL stepped over itself and its own rules and guidelines in the debacle over Los Angeles.

So just because the NFL has guidelines in place how to inform a player of an investigation which, if Bayless is correct, were ignored here with Jameis, the NFL has a very recent past of doing whatever the hell it wants to do — when it wants to do it, the hell with guidelines or bylaws or even the advice of its own employees.

I think after Brady and Elliot, the NFL actually takes it easy on Jameis. We live in a knee jerk pendulum swinging to far to the other side society. Goodell gives Winston a slap on the wrist. Unless Uber proves there was only 1 person n the car.

  2. Hodad Says:

This isn’t a case like trying to find out if aliens are really at area 51. Jameis either was, or wasn’t in the back seat of that car with Darby. There either was, or wasn’t a third party in the front seat. It shouldn’t take this long to interview all involved, and come to some kind of conclusion. Why hasn’t it come out who that third guy in the front seat was, if there was? We should all know what really happened by now.

  3. Pickgrin Says:

I’m surprised the league doesn’t get sued by its employees a LOT more often. Under King Goodell, the NFL operates and hands down “punishments” in way too many ways that do not meet legal requirements. He has taken this power trip way too far during his tenure – and has messed up the integrity of the game with all the rule changes – allegedly in the name of player safety.

  4. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

In any state court, these allegations would be laughed at, and would never have made it into court.
This is a “she said, he said” case. The fact she reported it to UBER is no big deal.
This does not Prove Jameis did it.
IMHO, The NFL should make a statement that they do not condone this kind of behavior, and then dismiss this for lack of proof.

  5. DefenseRules Says:

If that third person was in the car, Jameis should be home free in any event. Pretty sure that’ll be one of the first questions the nfl asks him. If there was no third person, Jameis (and Darby) have some explaining to do. That’s not a pretty scenario.

  6. tmaxcon Says:

this is so much bigger than the nfl and jameis this about a society that is shredding the constitution to ensure the mentally weak pc crowd don’t get their feelings hurt. Innocent until proven guilty matters and used to mean something until obama and his pc agenda divided and destroyed this country. I am no trump guy but situations like this is exactly why Americans voted in an outsider. real people are sick and tired of the pc crowd trumping constitutional rights in the name of protecting losers feelings.

  7. adam from ny Says:

when the driver said “what’s up with that?”…

jameis retorted with: “i speak softly and carry a big mofo stick”

—> so put this on ole dirkaroonie

  8. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Call me dumb but I’m not sure I follow Bayless whine? Jameis may be the victim of false charges and that’s horrible, but he’s not the victim of bad treatment or representation from the NFL, or the Union or anybody but himself.

The NFL cannot control when a story like this breaks and when it does they are almost always thrown into a reactive mode trying to staunch any PR damage.

Jameis was ONE person we know was aware of this from the very beginning since he was the one notified by Uber and his app was cancelled.

This story is getting so complicated with so many questions. Here’s another.
So Jameis finds out from Uber shortly after the “incident”. Who DID he tell?
Did he call his father? Derrick Brooks? Did he literally tell nobody? Perhaps Darby or some buds?

What makes this story so perplexing is that Jameis who is well aware of his FSU off field baggage…would have been notified of something like this and not tell anybody? That’s virtually unbelievable! I’d love to know who he did tell and when and perhaps what advice they gave him if it’s his agent or a Buc’s contact we do not know about.

I gotta say…it’s not a boring story…it grows more intriguing by the day. LOL

I think this time the story has a far more satisfying conclusion that the Kinsman charge. This girl and her attorney are adamant there was only ONE in the car.
Prove there were three and it’s over. Jameis is either going to get busted for at minimum lying about the “incident” or he’s going to be cleared completely.

  9. Mikadeemas Says:

Sounds like typical business in the “real world”.

  10. The Anomaly Says:

I think it’s great we have such a pillar of society and classy individual representing Tampa and its fans. Winston is never in the news and holds himself to a very high standard of human being. All class, all the time. Proud.

  11. Jman Says:

LIke be put the screws rob unwillingn participants and preaches that girls should be silent?

  12. chipbuc Says:

I heard some where that the guy in the front seat is also a nfl player and on a playoff bound team. So Winston doesn’t want to out him so he’ll be able to keep playing. Don’t know if it’s true ,but it makes some sense. Obviously the nfl will find out the truth, but not right now.

  13. LifeOfABucFan Says:

Didn’t Jameis fight back against Uber and the muting of his app? Did he contact Uber and explain himself at all???????

Or did he just hope no one would ever find out…hmmm…

  14. LifeOfABucFan Says:

I know if Uber canceled my app and the right to use their service for such behavior, I would be fighting it! I would want to clear my name up!!!!!

And he never told his coaches or employers? Yeah..come on guys..think…

  15. AceofAerospace Says:

2-0 without Jameis. 5 game losing streak with Jameis. Soooo, I’m not real concerned. We’re still just playing for draft position anyway, despite the “streak”.

  16. StPeteBucsFan Says:

I can’t believe Bayliss. Here’s a FREAKING miracle when you think of it.

Uber Kate lodged her complaint with Uber when it happened, Uber notified Jameis and took his app shortly thereafter.

How the heck did this story stay hidden. Buzzfeed, TMZ, regular media…perhaps Jameis really didn’t tell anybody because it’s just amazing that this story didn’t leak last year.

    Tmax

You are an idiot for blaming obama. Your problem is social media where racist and whoever else makes someone guilty before innocense is established. No matter how much white people like you want to blame obama for everything, historians have already rated this man on avg as the 12th best president this country has seen and some have him in the top ten. That is 12 out of 44. Sorry but facts do not support your clueless narrative.

  18. Mike Johnson Says:

tmaxcon..I hope you took a laxative this weekend. because you sir are full of Sh.t! Please sir..lay off the Fox news for a while.

  19. DalvinCookRules Says:

    tmax,

your comment is way off-base. I hate PC myself and think this country is being attacked maliciously by both the extreme left and the extreme right and everybody in the middle (80% of us) is getting caught in the cross-fire, but none of that has jack to do with this situation really.

We need to see if JW’s story checks out, and if it doesn’t, then there needs to be consequences. There should also be consequences for the woman, her attorney, and Uber if it does. Now, the way things should be and the way they are is two completely different things.

Going forward, JW needs to be much MUCH more careful about not only what he does but the decisions he makes daily. He’s matured a lot, but that’s not saying much given the fact he came from just about the poorest most beaten-down area in the country.

  20. BigHogHaynes Says:

@TMAXCON: your obsession with Obama, is n the same level as Trump, what the hell is Political Correct crowd, we are all in this boat together, you don’t get to denigrate someone because their views are different than yours! TRUMP is bad for the country, he is in my humble opinion a Jack Ass Racist! And a Dumb Ass at that! TAKE A KNEE! KEEP ANERICA FREE!! WE ARE UNDER THE LEADERSHIP OF “RAT”…..TOM BRADY IS A “RAT” TOO!!!! Loving my “PC” world!!!

  23. Viejo_Sombrero19 Says:

TMAX I like it better when you do the Anti Gerald Campaign, please just stay off politics because it’s better when you just seem like a psycho obsessive nut, I don’t really come to JoeBucsFan for your Political Ideology, how the hell is Barak Obama involved in this conversation IDK. Really Brah you make yourself look even more stupid than you regular stupid

  24. Getaclue Says:

I’m starting to think this third person ends up being a prominent player and that’s why we haven’t heard and it’s been hush hush

  25. Bucs fan #7423 Says:

    Tmax

Ahhh yes, let your hatred for black people and willful ignorance be known

  26. Lamarcus Says:

Hey yall slow down on tmaxcon

Im not into politics and damn sure won’t get political advice from Tmaxcon. As a black man tmaxcon has some points and merit to he was saying. Stop pretending this “so called” racial mental game started when Obama came about.

  27. 1sparkybuc Says:

No President has ever divided our nation like Donald T rump, and no President has ever bragged about grabbing women by their genitalia on a recording. Star or not, some things should never be done without an invitation. T rump has admitted his guilt. We’ve all heard it. Winston has denied it, and that is good enough for T rump. All he needs is a denial. Jameis is innocent until proven guilty, and Kate’s word is not proof.

  28. DoNUTS Says:

I will skip the politics and ignorance of some.

The relationship between the NFL (owners) and NFLPA is not the same as the Court of law and a defendant. While there may be provisions about process in the CBA, the case will not get thrown out even if the NFLPA can prove that the NFL did not follow the process. The NFLPA are terrible CBA negotiators and to date have never been anywhere close to equal ground with ownership.

If you need proof of how the owners think, see the quote from the Texans owner who had to apologize about his owner/slave mentality remarks. We can only imagine what JJ and the boys say behind closed doors.

  29. Mike Says:

    NFL=big brother

no you mad because you just cannot run over minorities any more

  31. Bucsince78 Says:

You are what your “track record” says you are. No different with Jamies. Unfortunately, more will come out about this. Its kind like one of those infomercials you watch at 2AM after a long night out with the boys…..”but wait there’s more”…..

  32. Alanbucsfan Says:

    Tmaxcon:
You are right on the money

  33. Skipper Says:

    TMax is an idiot

  34. Scott Says:

@Hodad said “Why hasn’t it come out who that third guy in the front seat was,”

I’ll take Because He Doesn’t Exist for $500 Alex.

  35. 1sparkybuc Says:

You have to laugh at someone who’s no “trump guy” yet attacks President Obama as divisive. As for Jameis, an accusation is an accusation. It’s not proof. No police report was made. It seems suspicious to me.

  36. James Walker Says:

I agree with Bayless. Just of ahead and shoot me.
