Ward: Getting Close

October 12th, 2017

Talks return timetable.

The Bucs are getting heathier on defense.

Lavonte David, Kwon Alexander and T.J. Ward returned to practice Wednesday, though they were limited.

Joe had a chance to ask Ward today what his chances are to return to the field against the Cardinals Sunday. Perhaps soon, Ward said, adding he is getting “really close” to playing. However, Ward cautioned he is still “day-to-day.”

Clearly, it won’t be a bad thing if the Bucs have Ward available to lay the wood to folks.

Long season still ahead. With Conte & Evans at 100%, and Tandy hopefully close to that, and with Josh Robinson available if need be, no need to push TJ into returning too early. I’m sure Bucs will err on the side of caution though.

“Kobe thinks its a mistake moving Beckwith out of the middle vs AP this week”

Going to need Beckwiths beef and consistency. Arians is going to give hungry motivated AP 20+ carries. Dont think matador Kwon and his flying around missing tackles is ready to play at this level yet

“Kwons half a$$ gearing up for the season has caused his hamstring tear. the loathing at training camp and lack of intensity in preseason games caused his injury. how old is Kwon? 23-24 yld. he doesnt need rest at preseason. he is still a young lion. the coaches meek approach has created his hamstring issue…WHICH WILL EFFECT HIM THE WHOLE YEAR”

maybe give these guys a few plays but I think we go easy with them and see how the game is going before we go all out. We need to keep in mind we don’t have a bye thanks to the NFL…

evans played well….just come back 100% because we cant afford to have you missing any more action…GO BUCS!!!!

You know, people have been riding Vernon Hargreaves for not being aggressive enough. I hear the Scuttlebutts say we may have to draft a CB because Vernon Hargreaves will never be elite.

The last elite CB we had was Ronde Barber, right? So let’s compare:

    Rookie years
Ronde Barber (first full season; 1999): 54 solo tackles, 70 total tackles.
Vernon Hargreaves: 68 solo tackles, 76 total tackles

Ronde Barber: 1 sack, 2 interceptions
Vernon Hargreaves: 0 sacks, 1 interception

Could not find passes defended for Ronde.

But the point is, Vernon Hargreaves is very close to Barber quality in his rookie year. Can’t really compare this year until its over.

Vernon Hargreaves had far more solo tackles than Barber.

I guess what I’m trying to say is this: Vernon Hargreaves is not doing nearly as bad as people are saying. Yes, he has messed up on a few big plays, but Ronde did also. Ronde sits in the booth now, and he points out the areas of improvement Vernon Hargreaves needs to make, but he seems to forget the same things were said of him when he started.

Remember…this is Vernon Hargreaves second year.

Ronde Barber didn’t earn a whole season of starting until his third year.

Bonzai- I would be less concerned with VHIII if after a wide-open WR drops a ball he would stop waving his finger and just move on. He’s not there yet, he needs to act like it and put in the work.
I don’t like the Ronde comparison even though it took Ronde years to crack the starting line-up. That’s my boy Blue!!!

  7. Wausa Says:

Tackles for a corner often times means a lot of passes are being completed in his area which requires a tackle to be made.

Look the vast majority on here want VH3 to play well, but so far this year his play has been awful.

I think he has it in him to play much better but he is going to have to quit playing scared. It is pretty obvious the coaches told him to trust his instincts and play aggressive but if anything he looks more timid then he did as a rookie.

  8. Capt.Tim Says:

Judging a Cb by tackles, is the same as judging a Nose tackle by how many Passes he defended.

Deon Sanders hated to tackle. Avoided them.
The best CB of his generation.

  9. SB Says:

I think you missed the boat on Bonzai’s comment Capt Tim.

  10. godzilla13 Says:

Vernon Hargreaves is a great CB. The first one or two CB taken in a draft are usually pretty good. VH3 is not a problem. QB’s have been targeting our LB’s and Safeties. The defense only gave up 19 points to the best QB in the league. Give the ball to Martin and make a couple of FG and the Bucs beat Arizona.

Why not let Robinson play a few downs , he certainly has the speed ……. Is Josh Robinson being overlooked ??? At least mix them in and out as they are two dif corners ,thus disturbing what offenses are doing to Vern. Let’s face it offensive game plans are at Vernon
