The Return Of Kwon?

October 19th, 2017

Bucs DC talks Bucs MLB.

So it seems all systems are “Go” for the return attempt of Bucs middle linebacker Kwon Alexander after he missed four games with a bad hamstring.

Sorry, but Joe will believe Alexander is back when he sees him on the football field.

In previous weeks, Alexander has boasted on social media he’s ready to go, only his proclamations turned into a cruel tease when Alexander was ruled out.

Simply put, Joe’s not taking the bait. When Alexander is ready he will be ready.

The prospect of Alexander returning to play sure brightened an otherwise gloomy day for Bucs defensive coordinator Mike Smith. The veteran NFL coach was getting hammered with questions about his defense’s collapse in Arizona, and about Vernon Hargreaves in particular.

When Smith was asked about Alexander, his face lit up like Joe’s does when he views a Rachel Watson video and you could see the emotional 100-pound feedbag lifted off of Smith’s shoulders.

“Any time you get a good player back it helps your chances,” Smith said. “There is no doubt about it. We’re excited that Kwon has been released to come out and practice and we’re excited to see him get out on the field. It’s been a long time. If you guys remember, he [last] played a handful of plays in the Chicago game. Hopefully there is not a whole lot of rust on him. We got a chance to work him some last week, so we are ready to put him out there and let him go.

“Kwon is a very emotional player. He is a fast player – he is probably one of the faster linebackers in the NFL. It gives you some sideline-to-sideline coverage, but also gives you a better chance to match tight ends and match running backs.”

Smith’s wide smile made Joe remember the tight bond he and Alexander have, almost like a father and a son. It’s been well-documented how the two get together first thing in the morning and have a sitdown to talk football and for Alexander to gain knowledge.

As Ira Kaufman likes to point out, the Bucs are 1-5 without Alexander in the lineup. The way the defense played last week in Arizona, the Bucs need all the help they can get.

For what it’s worth we’ve only won 1 game when he doesn’t play.

  2. Kobe Faker Says:

what kind of training camp and preseason did kwonie have? what kind of camp was the coaches running?

this loaf was chillin and was on vaca all summer then immediately tore his hammy after 3 plays? lol!…..ped kwonie was more worried about his red hair than ramping up intensity for the regular season

and the sheep fanbase isnt upset about this?

    where is the accountability?

  3. Mbfists Says:

As the saying goes…. “it starts up front”
Our saying should be “we give them the front”
NEED A DE!!! Remember the days of Rice?
Not for bad but correct me if I’m wrong wasn’t he considered a missing piece to the puzzle…. help us we need one for each side of the line
    Who can stay healthy

  4. Capt.Tim Says:

Kwon, Beckwith, and David are all great LBers.
Dying to see how they keep all 3 on the field

  5. Clodhopper Says:

I got to thinking last night, everyone just assumes Beckwith will replace Lavonte, and we’ll trade Lavonte one day since we cant pay three linebackers. I’m afraid Kwon might not even want to stay here.

IMO Kwon is the best at what he does. And knows it too. He wants to be a star. A national star. That wont happen here, unless something changes fast! He probably knows that too.

Not saying it’s a prediction he’ll leave us one day, just something I’m emotionally preparing for! He’s too big a fish for this tiny pond

  6. Bucsfanman Says:

It sure would be nice to have him in the line-up.

@Kobe- Not for nothing but you have a point. If we were talking Doug Martin, people would be screaming from the hilltops of Tampa Bay! (?) Interesting take.

  7. Bob in Valrico Says:

If i remember right Kwan tweeked the hammie in training camp.He may have tried to come back too soon.

  8. Kobe Faker Says:

kwon was goofing off all training camp and preseason

the coaches had a vaca atmoshphere this summer

we and the new nfl needs accountable hardnose head coaches and not coaches who wants to be friends and buddies with the players

  9. Pickgrin Says:

So Kobe thinks Kwon is a loafer and Clod thinks Kwon will jump ship at the 1st opportunity. SMH…

    Worst “fans” in the league.

Kwon’s absence may well be the reason our D has not looked good since the 1st game. He is the heart and soul of this defense and most definitely our D’s emotional leader.

I expect a fired up Buccaneer defense to take the field in Buffalo 3 days from now and a 3-3 record when the gameclock hits 0:00.

  10. Not there yet Says:

    @Clodhopper

How do you know Kwon wants to be a national star and won’t want to stay here and why can’t it be done here if McCoy sorry ass can do it? Sorry but that’s kinda stupid. Imagine if Sapp and Brooks thought that way. Wonder how they became national stars and Hall of famers hmm oh that’s right they won games and they MADE things change around here. If no one in this locker room can do that none of them would be considered great or hall of famers except in local media just ask simeon rice

  11. Kobe Faker Says:

kobe gureentees kwon wont finish the game this season

that hammy issue will be for the whole season

  12. Kobe Faker Says:

**wont finish this week vs bills

  13. Pickgrin Says:

Kobe Liar – is that guarantee as good as the one you made last year? Remember when you said you would never post on JBF again if the Bucs won a specific game. Well they won that game. So why is your idiot self still here?

    LIAR! Oathbreaker! IDIOT!

    GTFOH.

  14. 813bucboi Says:

he may be a little rusty but just having him on the field is HUGE!!!!…GO BUCS!!!

  15. Clw JB Says:

Heart of the D and we are markedly worse on D without him in the middle – Beckwith is a nice SAM, but the communication issues have been huge, bad run fits, blown coverages in the secondary…not to say VHIII isn’t an issue and a lack of a pass rush isn’t an issue….but he was helping us mask a lot of deficiencies

85% FAR is better than none at all

If we don’t shore up that run D, what is Shady going to run for, 250?

  16. mike10 Says:

This is an important week for him to come back.

We need an eye on Tyrod Taylor and you don’t want Shady McCoy wandering in space. I see 10+ tackles if Kwon plays.

Now, if that D line could just generate some pressure and our corners play press coverage… we may win this game

  17. Tom Says:

I still say when Kwon comes back they should play more 3-4. After all what do they have to lose?

  18. ClodHopper Says:

Oh the “you’re not like me so you’re a bad fan” crowd is out today I see. Those are the best “fans” Just ask them. They’ll tell you…. Daily.

You guys think these NFL players ain’t learning anything from lebron and the NBA? How do I know Kwon wants to be a star? Because I hear what he says. He’s not exactly being secretive about it. A true “fan” would pick up on that.

I’m sure your example from twenty years applies today though right? Just everything else in NFL is exactly same as twenty years ago. 🙄

  19. NFLNut Says:

    1-5 without Kwon
    16-15 with Kwon

    Let’s beat them Bills!

  20. Caleb Says:

Ok, so I agree with @Pick grin and @Not there yet. On the real, @Kobe (you should change your name cause the real Kobe is a Boss) and @ClodHopper you have no idea wth you’re taking about, I’m ashamed to say that you guys are a fan of the same team as I… or are you?

  21. uckinator Says:

Go to a 3 – 4 alignment with our 4 good linebackers (with Spence) and Blitz, Blitz, Blitz !

  22. ClodHopper Says:

Wtf did I say that was hating?
You’re ovary acting over a hypothetical comment. They make creams for that.
You ever heard the phrase hope for the best prepare for the worst? I heard it in the Boy Scouts. Too bad they didn’t let girls in when you were younger or you might have heard by now.
