Swaggy Pops Off

October 23rd, 2017

Takes grievance to Twitter.

What Joe feared is now in the midst of pollinating One Buc Palace like the MRSA that helped take down former Bucs commander Greg Schiano.

Minutes after the choke job by the Bucs defense yesterday in Buffalo, Joe detailed that formerly winning head coach Dirk Koetter’s biggest immediate problem was the potential fracturing of the locker room and players starting to freelance to pad stats and ignore team goals and edicts.

Joe never dreamed as he was typing that story that safety T.J. Ward was unloading on Bucs coaches, specifically defensive coordinator Mike Smith.

And it seems after the Bucs’ plane touched down in Tampa, shy, belly shirt-wearing, practice-hating, kicker-heckling, tree-grinding , non-contact-football-loving, chicken-wings-grilling Chris “Swaggy” Baker decided to join Ward in spouting off over his discontent.

In retweeting a BSPN link about Ward firing on Bucs coaches, Swaggy added “FACTS I feel the same way Bro”

Koetter has an insurrection brewing in his locker room against a long-time, trusted colleague and friend. How does Koetter stamp out the simmering fires before the mounting frustration turns into a full-blown blaze that could, if unchecked, scald his job security?

Just for background, Ward signed a one-year contract with the Bucs last month and Swaggy signed a three-year contract in March, of which only the first season is guaranteed.

TJ Ward being upset I can understand (although he did give up a TD today..), but Baker?? Seriously?? How can you expect to be on the field every down when

    a) You’re so openly lazy that even the rookies take the p*ss out of you
    b) You get a ball wrestled out of your hands by Carson Palmer!

    F*ck off Swaggy, you d*ckhead

  2. Dewey Selmon Says:

It’s a generational/cultural problem. A grow up man would talk to Smith himself. Now they get to run to a public forum and air their grievances. Misery loves company, and character does not play a part when they look in the mirror.

  3. University of Seffner Says:

It was definitely a long flight home for the team last night.

  4. thunderchunkyPA Says:

So, a guy who IRA all told us, doesn’t like to practice, and is lazy, is bitching about playing time? Great, just GREAT. Ward has a point, a pro bowl guy with a ring, who can’t get past Conte or a rookie? But BAKER? Look, Licht has done some good things, but man he has missed the boat on some as well. We ALL knew the D line was an issue, and BAKER was the solution? Joe(s), Commish and ALL the stick carriers wanted Mr. Campbell, but good ol Licht went the cheap route and it’s costing this team. So you have Gholston and Baker for the price of the beast Campbell. And do not give me that hind-site is 20/20 BS, we ALL were asking for Campbell.

  5. Gobucs Says:

Licht and the coaches should be immediately fired for the simple fact of not signing Campbell.

Everyone knew we needed him except for the pathetic coaches. Everyone knew Baker was not the answer but they sold it to us anyway.

    Unforgivable.

  6. adam from ny Says:

the newjacks on the squad have no allegiance to this team…and are the first to start abandoning ship…

and this team acts all swaggy due to hard knocks – like they all chill and coo now…nah they’re wrong, they gotta earn it on the field…and teams are enjoying handing the “hard knocks superbowl champs” there asses every given sunday

  7. dmatt Says:

I agree with Ward he didn’t come to play part time, he’s a proven nfl pro bowler with a Super Bowl ring n an abundance of playoff experience. Y waste his valuable time? We need his leadership n experience. I’m tired of watching Conte miss tackles that leads to tds. Baker on the other hand was signed with a don’t care attitude n history of complaints n wining. We had the opportunity to get JPeppers, Campbell, n others but were fixated on garbage in garbage out JSmith n a prayer. If u wanna win now then u must take chances, then b aggressive in FA,n on the field. Koetter don’t know how to use Jameis n weapons. Give us JHarbaugh n watch us average 40 points a game.

  8. adam from ny Says:

the team needs a defensive spark…might i throw out the name joe dirt…i mean hey things can’t really get any worse now…maybe the kid can infuse something…who knows…geez

word on the streets is mike smith coaches from the booth because he thinks he’s like a judge or something…i hear he wears a toga up there with no underwear…dudes hangin’ loose like he’s an animal house holdover

  9. Gobucs Says:

Why do people on here use the letter “N” instead of just saying “and”?

Is it that hard to put two extra letters in there?

I stop reading someone’s post after the first “N” in stead of “and”

  10. richbucsfan Says:

a divided locker room loses games

  11. darin Says:

Wrong way to go about it by Saggy of course. They gota look at the bigger problem tho, tbe defense cant stop anyone. Mike smith is doing the same thing he did last year, and the same thing he did last week. It is insane. These teams that are dropping 30 on him every week cant score on anyone else. If we wanted this defense we had lovie already. Send 6 every play for crying out loud. Any qb in this league will light you up with 4 seconds to throw. It is broken smitty, fix it. Of course I think he will, of course it will be too late. Another blown season. Dirk finally changed up his plays, yet the defense didnt. Lets see the panthers put up 3 on the bears…that puts them on pace to score 33 against the bucs this week.
What happened to scheming for each opponent? Ugly ugly ugly. I hate it when guys lose their jobs too, yet it might be time for someone else to call the defensive plays. The whole coaching staff has sucked this year. All started by playing patty cake instead of playing football in training camp.

  12. passthebuc Says:

There is a solution to the problems. Have the Owners sell the team to Jeff Vinik.

  13. Destinjohnny Says:

When u don’t VET and do proper mental analysis on guys you bring in….
This is what your locker room will look like.
You couldn’t pay me to have this guy on my team.
Also getting rid of Wilcox was stupid as was drafting Evans over Kareem hunt

  14. Tom Edrington Says:

Glad I’m in Scotland. Most of the lads in the Edinburgh pubs believe that American Football is totally boring.

    Swaggy is totally boring.

  15. IsrBuc Says:

Chris Baker might be the worst pickup made by Licht. His attitude is a cancer in the lacking of winning program standarts and leadership the bucs have. We simply cannot afford to let a guy like that enter our locker room.

  16. Defense Rules Says:

It’s interesting that the first 2 guys to run to the press are those 2. Both are guys new too the Bucs ‘family’. Baker was here all during training camp, but somehow earned a rep for not wanting to practice. Hmmm, probably not the best way to make a good first impression with your new teammates. Baker missed the Vikings game but has been on the field for 110 of the 283 defensive snaps in the remaining 4 games (39%). In comparison (tmaxcon), GMC’s been on the field for roughly twice that. He’s had a total of 7 tackles & 2 assists (over half of that total came in the big loss to the Cards) this season. No sacks, no forced fumbles.

Ward didn’t even join the Bucs until right before the 1st game (he didn’t have nice things to say about the Broncos either BTW), and missed 2 games due to a hip injury. Probably still not at 100% which may be why Smitty has him rotating, don’t know. In any event, never had a great rep for being his coverage it sounds like, although he is apparently good at hitting people. He’s gotten 55% of the defensive snaps in the 3 games he played in before the Bills, but has only averaged 3 tackles per game. Our other FS (Conte) averaged over 5 tackles per game, and looks to me like he’s been doing a better job in coverage.

Squeaky wheels always seem to make the most noise. And Washington & Denver both seem to be doing OK without those two. And ya, like most, I wish Licht had signed Calais Campbell. Also wish he’d kept JJ Wilcox.

  18. Clodhopper Says:

I think this is a good thing. Nothing will change if everyone just shrugs their shoulders and says “at least we’re having fun.”

    Exercise the demons!!!

  19. Bucsfanman Says:

@Clod- Unfortunately, it’s not coming from someone that would have more impact like a Brent Grimes or Clinton McDonald.
Baker needs to keep his mouth shut and play football. Ward is starting to annoy me. He’s been here long enough for a cup of coffee and been injured most of that time.
    Our defense stinks!

  20. The Buc Realist Says:

There can be a fix for this defense!!! Most will not like it, but will have to come to fix it for next year!!!! You have to trade GMC for a draft pick, and cut everyone but NS57 and WG92 and then draft a DE and DT and sign in free agency the best DE, DT that they can!!!!! The next step is that the owners need to come out and apologize for “expanding their brand” when the Team should have been practicing Football, instead of the reality TV show that they were filming!!!!! The owners will also need to give full support to the front office and coaches!!!! Letting all know, that this is the way it is!!!!!!

The Team is close and the offense showed some flashes yesterday!!!! It is on the rise and still has a ways to go with the potential that it has!!!!!! Do not worry about anything other then fixing the D-line then figure out what is behind them!!!!! As bighogheinous says “Build the wall”!!!!!!!!!!!!

So sheep!!!!! Instead of screaming ” fire” this guy and “fire everyone” out of every lose!!!!! Why don’t we just fix it so we can finally have something nice around here!!!!!!!!!!!

    GO Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  21. Kobe Faker Says:

“The Buc Realist! I demand a apology!”

  22. GhostofSchiano Says:

    Campbell > Baker-Ward

That simple. All comes down to $$$$$

Glazers had it, Licht went cheap, they made their bed now lie in it.

  23. TheBucsAnthem Says:

Look at all these recently acquired Free Agents whining about playing time instead of promoting and winning culture and trying to fix the issues on defense……there’s alota of “Me” mentality running around this defense.

  24. GhostofSchiano Says:

I know I tease tmaxcon but starting to think he is right

    ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

ha ha ha ha……you’re totally right

Fatty Baker was a terrible Free Agent pickup and his play doesn’t match his 5th round play on the field……..what a waste.

  26. BucTrooper Says:

I really hope it blows up. I really do. Full Armageddon. This Defense has been terrible for far too long.

  27. Waterboy Says:

Should’ve signed Calais Campbell (10 sacks already).

    #1) for what??????

#2) liar’s do not receive apologies!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, i will sacrifice myself in behalf the the tampa bay bucs.

If tampa wins i will not post here ever again”

  29. WyomingBucsFan Says:

Everyone talks about poor tackling but these guys are not even in position to make a tackle. I see guys just sitting back waiting for the play to come to them. Brent grimes is a really bad player in run support. Kwon is not the player he was last year because he’s missed so much time. Nobody seems to have a plan for each play. We sometimes slant the defense the wrong direction. I don’t get it at all, seems like the defense is just mentally lost.

  30. Reach87 Says:

Got to believe we can win games this year without gutting the defense or firing the coaches. Its been done here recently. Keep the faith. We are still in it. As far as insurrection, I hope the coaching staff puts the clamps on that swiftly and quietly behind closed doors. We are close, but don’t need the distraction derailing all the things we did right against the Bills. Go Bucs!

  31. Time4Change Says:

I really like Jason Licht but too many misses with high picks and wastes on free agency. Hire the GM first and let him pick the HC. Hire Nick Cesario or the Assistant GM of the Vikings — Josh McDaniels with our 2 TEs would be killer. The Assistant GM of the Vikings has hit on mid round gems building a solid D……Leadership matters!

  32. dm4bucs Says:

Defense has not adjusted and other teams know how to beat it from off-season film. Baker was the cheaper option and has totally backfired compared to the leader and fire Campbell has brought to Jags. Ward should be playing more than 35% if healthy the last two weeks and his bad play today was a pick play by the WR and he still almost got to him, which is more than a lot of our other players are doing…

  33. EA Says:

We are going to build through the draft, we’re Lichts words when he took over, now a couple of free or more that their team didn’t want may have infected his locker room, how ironic.

  34. dooshlarue Says:

Chris “Type 2 Diabetes” Baker can get his sorry ass outta here and enjoy the rest of his short life.
You’re a joke, just like I thought you would be.

  35. Getaclue Says:

There is nothing wrong with the players we brought in. The problem is the players we have had are use to losing ,career losers, and these new guys are taking it personal. This is how culture change starts

  36. BUC MAN Says:

THE BUC’S ALWAYS SEEM TO PICK UP THE WRONG PLAYER OR TRADE A PLAY THAT GOES TO ANOTHER TEAM AND PLAYS LIKE A FIRST ROUND DRAFT PICK, WHAT THE WELL IS GOUNG ON IN TAMPA . MAYBE THEY NEED TO GET RID OF EVERYBODY ON DEFENSE AND START OVER …….

  37. Onebucdude Says:

Its really is simple no pass rush people have all day to get open. I cant even put too much on the secondary when they have to run all over the feild for what seems like 30 minutes before they give up the completion. A pass rush makes bad throws and interseptions . As long as we have no one who can get to the QB i dont care if we had a great DC deffense will atill be sorry.

  38. 813bucboi Says:

LOL….Finally!!!!!….@realist has returned!!!!…LOL….now if we can get your buddy @LC to stop hiding we mat be able to get some things accomplished around here!!!!!!

first, I actually agree with you regarding trading GMC….you’ve finally come to see the light!!!!…but your only half way correct….the BEST way to correct this defense is to fire SMITTY….im sure you’ve seen that smittys defense has been the worse since the chucky era….let that sink in for a minute!!!!….his defense is worse than the so called “incompetent one”….firing smitty is a quick easy fix!!!!simple as that!!!!….

second, the glazers need to apologize to the fans for assembling this sorry coaching staff…..that’s the problem….THE COACHING or lack their of….players aren’t being put in position to be successful….this offense has no identity….the defense sucks…and some players are regressing!!!!!….HK IS NOT THE REASON WE ARE 2-4!!!!…STOP THE NONSENSE!!!!!…the reason we are 2-4 is because of the coaches!!!!!

third, you talk about this team being close?….WTF!!!…yeah close to a top 10 pick in the draft!!!!!….and whats worst is that the coach who you said is a clear upgrade from the previous staff now has a divided locker room!!!!….players don’t believe in dirk or smitty anymore…they’ve had enough!!!!…the fans have had enough!!!!!…..NO MORE EXCUSES!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!

  39. 813bucboi Says:

and people saying cut baker…BS….him and ward are the only 2 players on defense that are sick of losing and are man enough to say something!!!!…others on that side of the ball don’t care!!!!…at least we know those 2 don’t like losing….haven’t heard anything form GMC yet…he’s still having fun being a loser!!!!….GO BUCS!!!

  40. ElioT Says:

Where’s McCoy to put a stop to this sh*t?

    Great stuff…

They need to blow up the entire older portion of the defense’s roster.

David, Kwon and the young guys are the only keepers.

Trade McCoy for whatever you can get.

Put Spence on IR and send him to the best shoulder surgeon there is.

    Cut everyone else.

    Go Sucs!!!

  41. Conte Piscateli Says:

With Ward I heard a guy that is upset he isn’t playing, like he said he didn’t come here to be a rotational player, I imagine Baker would like a larger role as well. I get the feeling these guys don’t like losing, we need more players that don’t like losing. Maybe these two guys should be the ones who start holding teammates and coaches accountable? no one else is.

  42. cmurda Says:

Mike Smith needs to go. That’s fact. Swaggy and Ward are better than anybody else on this team at their respective positions. I simply can’t blame these men for wanting to play.

  43. Richard Francis Says:

As Gen Kelly said, Empty Barrels make the most noise. I agree with the lads at the pub…..the NFL is getting boring. Swaggy is boring. Bucs are boring. My last year for season tickets.
    You guys enjoy yourselves.

  44. Mental Bucdown Says:

The defensive line is lining up too close to each other the de’s need to be on the outside shoulder of the tackles and the dt’s need to be over the guards that leaves the center to make a decision on which DT to help which leaves the a gap open for a stunt or a lb to shoot the a gap on run plays. The de’s will seal the edge and if the play is going the opposite way the De on the backside should be watching for the cut back or the bootleg not chasing the play at full speed leaving the bootleg open. The lb’s need to not line up so close the los this is causing them to get caught up in all the traffic in the middle and allowing edge runs to gash us. Lining up 3-5 yards also keeps them in position to help defend slants and playaction. The corners need to stay 5 yards off in coverage whether zone or man and bump each play to throw off timing. The safeties should mostly play cover 2 until we get better corners. Just my 2 cents

  45. Mental Bucdown Says:

Ward and Baker are right this defense does a lot of dump stuff

  46. Mike Johnson Says:

Its HARD..Being a Bucs fan, HARD!!

  47. LongSeason Says:

Baker has to go. Along with GMC (lost his ability to play at any level). I’d rather go with two one legged lepers at tackle than those two, one a never was and the other a has been. They can take Mike Smith with them. Ward can go too. I’ll take Tandy over the over rated Wart, er Ward. After this year is over the only positions I would say are safe on defense are the linebacker positions. I expect 20 new defenders and a new defensive staff. We are wasting a franchise QB and the number one passing game in terms of yards per game passing. Screw the defense. They are just playing for game checks. Run them all of to the Ottawa Rough Riders.

  48. sorryitriggeredyou Says:

Told yall, after this loss the coaches would lose the locker room. How do I know this? How did we all know this would happen? Because, sadly we’re all so used to losing we see this happening all the time with this franchise.

  49. Drew Says:

Dewey Selmon… Swaggy acts like a liberal who runs to the media with Fake News.
