Noah Spence, The Bucs Need You

In the sixth game of the year, defensive end Robert Ayers got a sack.

It was the first sack from a Bucs defensive end since the opening game. Think about that for a moment.

The problem the Bucs have in their league-worst sack totals is two guys who the Bucs threw all of their chips into the middle of the table for are either on another roster or are less than 100 percent.

Now Joe isn’t putting the blame on second-year defensive end Noah Spence. The guy has the heart of a lion. He played with virtually one arm most of last year with a bum shoulder. On the first play of the game at Minneapolis this year, Spence told Joe in the locker room after that game he suffered the very same injury.

Spence was on the field today, injury and all, likely wearing a shoulder brace which limits his movements. But he was out there fighting, battling. As much as Joe feels for Spence and respects what a warrior he is for continuing to play through the unreal pain, fair or not, the Bucs need sacks from him.

Why? Because the guy on the other side of the line the team was banking on getting six-plus sacks from, Jacquies Smith, is now on the Lions’ roster.

So the Bucs, as Joe is currently typing, are expecting the vast majority of their edge rush to come from a second-year player with one arm.

Spence today had two tackles and a tackle for a loss. Unfortunately, he couldn’t get near the quarterback.

Oh, don’t worry, a 53-year old former star first baseman will ride to the rescue.

One reason why the Bucs stink on defense? The guys the Bucs hoped would bring the heat are either gone, or physically limited.

Just like winning Bucs coach Dirk Koetter told America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, in “Hard Knocks,” it might be unfair to expect him to be a playoff quarterback in his third year because the team is built to win now, but that’s just the way it is.

Same with Spence. The Bucs, fair or unfair, need Spence, a second-year player, to get sacks despite his physical limitations.

And that sucks all the way around for Spence.

get the leader of the losing culture out of the locker room and all free agents and draft picks will improve dramatically.

  2. Lamarcus Says:

    ^^^^ blahahaa

  3. Gobucs Says:

    Won’t matter. He’s overrated.

  4. Destinjohnny Says:

He doesn’t have the god given ability

  5. Lamarcus Says:

Tmaxcon gets a lot of hate but he 100 percent correct. We will never win anything special into u dispose that C off his jersey and remov him away from these young guys immediately

Whoevr told him to lose weight should be fired. He is waaayyyy too small to make any sort of impact. He tries. He tries hard. No dice. There is no position in the NFL for him. Maybe move to fullback? Before spence dies out there?

  6. Cometowin2 Says:

Just opened up a Go Fund Me campaign. Search on “purchase fire Mike Smith billboard.

  7. EA Says:

Noah Spence isn’t 100% but besides that this team is fully healthy and this is the results you get ?

  8. Joeypoppems Says:

As I posted on a different article:

Noah Spence is a bust as a 4-3 DE. He would be much better as a 34 OLB coming off the edge

  9. Lamarcus Says:

Spence needs to go wide 9 w a linebacker. We can’t put spence in position that turn out to be laughable outcomes. It’s wholly not on spence. He just goes by whoever told him to lose weight. Nice physiques get u cut. Ask Laron Landry and David Boston

  10. DB55 Says:

So joe wants to put the onus on Spence instead of the all-world, top 5, hof dt. Gotcha!

  11. Dom is gone Says:

The guys the bucs thought would bring the heat were the same guys that didn’t bring the heat last year….running the same guys out on the field an expecting a different result???? DE in first couple of rounds this draft. Y’all watch the highlights of Jags game… that’s how you rush the passer

  12. Season Is Over Says:

Why didn’t the GM bring in a pass rusher?

  13. LakeLand Says:

Calais Campbell, 10 sacks on the season. Even the other guys on the D-Line are better, because of him. Yannick Ngakoue, 6 sacks. Dante Fowler Jr, 5.5 sacks.

  14. CitruscountyBUC Says:

Hey Lamarcus….get off tmaxcon’s sack…without Gerald and other players that you idiots want out of town we would be rooting for a 5-11 or 4-12 team. Oh, we don’t have the best team every freaking year. Sounds like you bags should have not gone into manual labor jobs and went into the front office of NFL teams since you’re so intelligent. When you grab my garbage on the morning, be sure to roll my garbage can back up to the house you douche. Patience!

  15. CitruscountyBUC Says:

Don’t moderate me for these assholes!

  16. denjoe Says:

53-year old former star first baseman > Please stop saying this!

  17. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

Joe maybe shoulder got dislocated numerous times when I was young. It was awkward but popped right back into place with some maneuvering and was as good as new immediately. It is kind of annoying when you call him a warrior and have absolutely no idea it this is even an issue for him. It wasn’t for me and most likely isn’t for him either. He just sucks!

  18. tmaxcon Says:

    LakeLand

those sack numbers must be misprints because bucs have the most beastly and best pass rusher in the history of the nfl at DT and his numbers are not that good. it won’t fit the narrative if you keep pointing out numbers like that

  19. Chris Says:

The guy is small, even for limebacker if he’s 237. He is just flat manhandled. True DEs are the size of a Simeon Rice or Myles Garret, 6’5 275, that can run 4.6. Not 6’2 237 guys that run 4.7, 4.8. He is not gifted athletically to be even a average DE. The front office hopes on injures, unavailable, unproven players on defense is almost at a Browns like ineptitude. Couning on Jaques Smith is like the Browns counting on Josh Gordon to fix their wr woes.

  20. Matts17 Says:

Spence isn’t special. Zero pass rush all year, no effort from the GM or the D coordinator to address it off or on the field.

    MY TAKE-A-WAYS:

    1. Jameis is a future first ballot HOF’er, period. The guy is now on pace for 4,807 yards passing, 30 TD’s and 12 picks … and the kid played an amazing game today with a shoulder injury …

    2. The defense, the entire defense, SUCKS

    3. We need to switch to a 3-4 next year … Gholston/GMC/Baker – David/Kwon/Beckwith/Spence – that should give us much more team speed and a much better ability to get to the QB

    4. VH had a nice bounce back game and played pretty well but we need to draft and/or sign at least TWO new CBs as Grimes is old & Hargreaves is still unproven and there is no real depth behind them

    5. OJ Howard is a legit WEAPON … I hope Koetter keeps using him!

    6. If we lose at home to Carolina next week, we will not make the playoffs, period.

    7. Take the long-term view on this team for as long as JW/Mike/Brate/OJ stay together this team will have a chance to win rings *IF* Tampa can field even an “average” defense!

    ********************

  22. Matts17 Says:

Oh, and please remind me why this team signed Chris Baker. What would you say you do here?

  23. D-Rome Says:

Why isn’t Drug Martin getting nearly as much criticism as GMC? Last I checked Jameis threw over 40 passes. Molly Hamster seems to get the pass with the majority of the fans.

  24. CitruscountyBUC Says:

FINALLY!!! NFL nut know what the hell he is talking about!

  25. Capt.Tim Says:

IF you were counting on a 6’2”, 250lb DE- you were delusional to begin with.

Posted this once- but says it all
    Our Defensive Ends
Robert Ayers- 1 sack , no QB hits
Noah Spence- no sacks, No QB hits
Will Gholsten- No Sacks, No QB hits

Our Linebackers- no Sacks, No QB hits
Our Defensive backs- no sacks, No QB hits

The only person to hit the QB( other than Ayers sack)?
Gerald McCoy- 2 QB hits, 6 QB pressures.

Other Than McCoy- no one on the team has ANY PASS RUSH SKILLS!

Until we get A DE that can rush the passer, we will continue to lose.

Ive been saying it for years. So has others.
Its still true. And its that simple

  26. Lamarcus Says:

    Nfl nut

Next year. Priority #1 is not a 3 4 defense

    Needs to go list:
Gmc, spence, mcclain, conte, dsmith, dm, tj ward, djx, baker, ayers, jrogers, martino, reedy, hargarves, tandy, grimes, fitzpatrick. …….
.then we can talk about a 34 defense when this happens

  27. Lamarcus Says:

Gmc qb pressures PROVES inefficient. Still gives up the booty

  28. SB Says:

The RAMS beat the Cardinals today 33 to ZERO……………ZERO…………….ZERO
Take a minute to think about that.

  29. Lee Says:

Dwight freeney is better than anyone on the roster at pass rushing.

  30. SB Says:

    Read the Above^^^^^^^^^^^^^

  31. Season Is Over Says:

Sorry, but those McCoy stats look bogus. Anyone watching that game knew what a non-factor he was. He wasn’t hardly double-teamed at all. Everyone is watching him now. I think he hit the QB after another long pass one time that I can remember.

  32. 813bucboi Says:

    @nut…I agree….play 34!!!!…GO BUCS!!!

  33. 813bucboi Says:

    Don’t Hide!!!!

    @realist!!!!
    @LC!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!

  34. Lamarcus Says:

Gmc is mentally checked out. This has been his issue.

  35. LakeLand Says:

What do Arizona, Minnesota, Buffalo have in common? They all scored 30 points or more against the Bucs. But, they haven’t scored 30 against another team.

  36. Joe Says:

Dwight freeney is better than anyone on the roster at pass rushing.

    And DeMarcus Ware.

  37. CitruscountyBUC Says:

Lamrcus want to cut the whole team! HAHAHA why has no one asked him to run the front office of their team. Damn the guy is sharp!!!

  38. SB Says:

GUYS……………..THE RAMS just beat the Cards 33 to Z.E.R.O!!!!!!!!!!

  39. mark2001 Says:

Joe…what concerns me about your article is in the last paragraph, when Koetter said this team is built to win now. Obviously that isn’t what is going on…. so did Koetter and Licht miss the mark when evaluating the team? And if we are set up to win now, what happens in a year or two when we are rebuilding?

  40. DB55 Says:

    Lol SB

  41. NFLNut Says:

I have NEVER bashed GMC on this forum, not one time … BUT … I do think he should be traded … not because I think he sucks or is a cancer or anything like that but simply because I think he is aging, declining and everything has to be about JW’s future and building for said future … if you can trade GMC for a 1st round pick and a couple later picks, I think you do it … this team has a lot of needs including RT, CB and DE primary among them and will also need to spend mega money to keep JW/Mike/Brate around so it may be the time to move GMC’s monster contract as well …

    *************

  42. SB Says:

    Good to see you DB

  43. SB Says:

It is time to take the hype and sh!t on it. WE will be what we do each week.We are in no way a playoff team.We are CLOSE. but not there yet.

  44. Cometowin2 Says:

Close to a playoff team? Lol.

  45. Destinjohnny Says:

Good combination we can’t stop the run or rush the passer.
Once 54 got $$$$ it all changed

  46. Cometowin2 Says:

Can we please get the reporters a fooking $50 microphone so we can hear them on the press conferences?

The gang that can’t shoot straight!!!

  47. Cometowin2 Says:

Sure is no problem hearing the ads on the press conferences.

  48. Lamarcus Says:

That’s right. Those players listed are either old, declining, inconsistent and losers. We need some serious talent and stop playing around and jerking off the fans. Winners are built not assembled with Falcons trash or hold overs from losing cultures

  49. SB Says:

    Hey Cometowin2
I never see you posting unless you are laughing at someone.
    Nice fandom!

  50. bucs_365 Says:

Well, if we’re counting on Spence for the sacks, we’re in trouble. I seriously think his career is toast before it’s had a chance to get going because of the shoulder thing. Another bust at DE for the ole Yuccaneers.

Pass rush isn’t happening this year. We’re gonna suck all year and maybe finish 6-10 if we’re lucky – the defense is just that bad and I don’t see where the turnaround is coming from.

In the offseason, we need to shell out the dough for a DE in free agency if there’s anybody worth it, and then we’ve got to draft 2 more. And somehow, we’re gonna have to find a way to get CB help as well.

  51. Jeffbuc Says:

Noah the headline should read the bucs need you to take a seat on the bench and gain 40 pounds and 5 more moves and come back in a year and see if you make the team. But his shoulder is hurt well put him on injured reserve and bring in someone else they can’t be worse
