Koetter Says Bucs Are Working On Not Tipping Offensive Plays

October 20th, 2017

Intriguing words about the Bucs’ offensive line

Your Tampa Bay Buccaneers have had their share of sputtering on offense this year, and a shred of the issue could be on the Bucs revealing their hand before the snap of the football.

This new insight was delivered by winning head coach Dirk Koetter himself this evening on the Buccaneers Radio Network.

(Hey Team Glazer, your radio network needs more funding so it can grow. What possibly could be better than more Bucs talk? Especially when the local sports radio station feels compelled to apologize to Bucs fans?)

Koetter was asked by a fan whether he worries that passes or runs are being tipped off by the offensive line, specifically because of tackle alignment.

Koetter dove right in.

“Yeah, there’s something to that. You know, there’s something to that,” Koetter said. “We try to do some things to break our tendencies. That’s one thing in this league, especially players study in other players. You know, all of our offensive linemen write reports every week on guys they’re going to go against to try to use it as a tip sheet. And vice versa that happens at every position, the coaches do it. By down and distance a lot of times, you know, your opponent knows what your run-pass percentage is. In the NFL, most teams, if you get past 3rd-and-2, then you know it’s a pass. So there definitely is some of that, some things where certain guys stances, you know, give tips off and we’re trying to break those tendencies whenever we can.”

Wow. Interesting. Not tipping plays certainly would be considered a major positive.

Joe can’t imagine this could be a major issue, though Koetter clearly didn’t brush off the question.

The Bucs also have a center, Ali Marpet, who is in his first year at the position on any level of football.

What ever happened to beating the guy in front of you?

  3. Chris Says:

Grasping at straws on a unmotivated, up and down team. Dunno ehats worse, wstching teams that suck, like the Browns and 49ers, or teams thst piss away their potential.

  4. Hodad Says:

Koetter tips his hand every time he goes empty backfield on 3rd, and short. The defense knows right away they don’t have to play the run. Blitz, no back to pick it up! Way to keep them guessing Dirk.

  5. Chris Says:

And is our pink haired beauty school drop lb going to.play this year or miss an entire season due to a pulled hamstring? Hell D Brooks was DPOY with gimmpy hamstrings.

  6. Lamarcus Says:

Who doesn’t know what route djx is running?

  7. Wewantgruden Says:

Coach K is lost in space. Over is head. QB coach. No backbone. Afraid of his players a defensive coach. Follower and not a leader. Spends more time on his perm than with his own coaches.

  8. SB Says:

    REALLY Chris???????
    I mean Really???????????????

  9. Blake_Bucsfan Says:

    @SB

Yeah, clueless mongoloids that say crap like that are what makes me really hate a lot of this fan base…

  10. tmaxcon Says:

tipping plays is nothing compared to the mentally weak defense surrendering the booty and double digit leads consistently…. Led by everyone’s favorite clown Captain Blowout cancer93 cant end the losing culture when the leader still reigns supreme

  11. unbelievable Says:

I mean if everyone sitting on their couch watching can guess what play is coming, I would imagine professionals can tell too….

hey tmax- don’t worry, we’re getting the gofundme started for ya!

  12. Lamarcus Says:

^^^ lol tmaxcon. Is hilarous because he is soooooo right

  13. Pickgrin Says:

Prior to this year – I imagine it was a lot easier to guess run or pass based on whether Stocker or Brate was in the game in single TE sets. That’s a tangible benefit to OJ Howard’s dual skillset.

  14. DB55 Says:

You need players like this is you plan to win. Not so much the jacking of the ref but look at this mf run in from the sidelines to fight for his qb. Idk if Jameis can even get someone to pick him up after a late hit.

Now that’s a beast! All we got is ice cream. Soft serve swirl.

  15. Blake_Bucsfan Says:

    @DB55

You clearly are unaware of what actually was happening there.

Lynch ran off the field to protect Marcus Peters, as they are boys off the field.

So, based off your comment, you want 93 to run onto the field and get ejected to protect an opponent.

    Makes a lot of sense…

  16. Pryda...sec 147 Says:

Just believe in Jameis trust the process we got a special guy at QB

  17. Mike Johnson Says:

Hodad..Now you now why the Bills coaching staff said last this past Tuesday, The Bucs are not hard to prepare for. There are no tips being given to the opponents. How about beating the snot of the man in front of You? The top 10 NFL teams do it all of the time.

  18. yrbndr Says:

Wow! i am embarrassed by some of and not all of the posters here with the coach and player hate and I dislike using that word. You have a keyboard to lash out with that venom and you are clueless! Your venom towards 93 is pathetic and if anything shows your ineptitude and lack of football IQ. Be a supporter or at least give constructive criticism and not hate! Wow!

  19. James Walker Says:

If you dominate you could hand the other team your playbook and win.

  20. cmurda Says:

Anybody can hate GMC but even the haterest hater tmax knows he is being double teamed. Forget McCoy for just a second and tell me what in the eff have the other 3 linemen done for me lately? Our D Line is pathetic. I believe in Noah but Ayers is a waste of a roster spot.

As for the offense tipping plays. Nope. The offensive alignment tips it off. Jumbo set, we run. Empty backfield? What do you think is happening? Have to keep defenses guessing. This offense has way too much talent to be wasted. Dirk is inexplicably not taking advantage of Brate, OJ passing options particularly in a jumbo set. If we passed out of a jumbo it would be a huge chunk of yardage with one of our TE’s wide open.

  21. AlteredEgo Says:

Embarrassing to even read this title….

  22. JLbucs Says:

Time to just go 5 wide on every down and chuck the pigskin all over the field. No punts or field goals. I dominate with this strategy on the ps4. Nothing else is working and our defense couldn’t stop the little sisters of the poor.

  23. Architek Says:

I don’t know what it is about this team but something is off and not there. Winston is going to be Winston – good competitor, never will be super accurate but I don’t think we are calling plays to help him. I feel these guys need to get back to the basics.

  24. Iamabuc Says:

This is beyond me. After three seasons together, after 5 games into this season; now they are working on not tiping the other defences? Idk, sometimes this coaching staff, makes us wonder if they know anything about futball. And what about Jameis staring down at his receivers? After 3 years, when are they going to try to fix that?
