Koetter Doesn’t Care About Your Feelings

October 20th, 2017

No time for crying.

Although winning Bucs coach Dirk Koetter wants to move on to Buffalo, the wake of the chain-whipping at the hands of the Cardinals is too vivid and significant, and perhaps a harbinger of the season.

Koetter noted after the game how he was embarrassed by the pathetic display of his team, specifically the defense.

Yesterday, when asked if his players were equally appalled, Koetter, in a long-winded way, said he doesn’t give a crap and it doesn’t mean a hill of beans what his players think or feel. What does count, Koetter said, is practicing better and producing in games.

“All that really matters is how you play on Sunday,” Koetter said. “The rest of it doesn’t really matter. When I said [he was embarrassed], I meant it because I mean what I say and I’m speaking for myself. You’d have to poll every individual player to ask if they were [embarrassed] or not, but I was and I said it and I stand by it.

“We have to get better. We have to play better. We have to coach better and right now everything is moving towards the Bills on Sunday.”

“This whole, ‘Do I sense energy? Do I think they were embarrassed?’ I go by how we practice and how we prepare and let me just say for the one millionth time for the record, I believe in our process. If I thought there was something wrong with our process I would switch it.”

Asked if the team may have a hangover from that knee-capping last week, Koetter said time will tell.

“That question will not be answered until Sunday between one and four o’clock,” Koetter said. “I can sense whatever I want to sense. They can sense whatever they want to sense. Nothing matters until kickoff between one and four, if you are preparing right. If we stick to our process, if we prepare the right way, eventually we will be fine. I 100 percent believe in that.”

Frankly, if the Bucs plan to salvage this season, they better find a way to win Sunday. Hurt feelings or not. Jameis or no Jameis. If the Bucs lose Sunday, they will have to go 7-3 to have a realistic shot of a wild card.

After what we have witnessed the past four games, does this look anything like a team that can close a season by going 7-3? Whatever is spooking this team better be cleaned up quickly, no later than Halloween.

Koetter will get run right out of town just like Schiano if he doesn’t start careing about big softees feelings…. smiles and feelings are all that matter in bucs locker room. blowouts and loses are easily forgotten with a quick check of the bank account and a series of pathetic excuses to justify losing. It’s the gmc years in a nutshell…beware mr koetter the mentally weak feelings of career losers is far more important to glazers than accountability or winning.

  3. Phil Says:

If they lose his game get ready for Gruden.

  4. Buc believer Says:

I agree with your stand tmaxconn on Mr. Softie. The little boy girl would rather stay at home and play with his dolls than play football on Sunday. He/she just does it to collect a paycheck. If I read you correctly though I think you were throwing the Glazers in the “I don’t care” camp as well. If you were I don’t think that’s true. They do care… their just to stupid to figure it out.

  5. Reach87 Says:

Tmax, you’re a moron. Captain of the losing culture. All personal attacks on arguably our best defensive player with no (zero) football knowlege or credibility of your own. Additionally your moronic posts demonstrate a complete lack of faith or hope in this team. You are…a sad broken down joke when it comes to being a fan of football or this team.

  6. darin Says:

He’d better care about their feelings about 12:59 on sunday. N I hope dirk doesnt eat another big bowl of stupid game management for breakfast this week.

  7. tmaxcon Says:

Koetter is not the problem the career losers and locker room cancers masquerading as defensive captains are the core issue…hard for a qb to develop or a coach to call a balanced game when the soft mentally weak heartless defense spots teams double digit leads reguarly… but hell know let’s give the career losers a free pass and pile on the qb and coach… remember folks koetter worst offensive game is still much better than any offense under the one dimensional pathetic dungy…cant rewrite history folks

Results prove every statement I make… I look at win loss records you make excuses simple as thast…

There is no hope until cancer93 the leader of the losing culture and undisputed face of the basement years is gone… resdults are all that matter nothing else

  10. Wombat Says:

Just win, that’s all I need on a Sunday. Koetter is right, good guys win. I understand the passion everyone has for this team, but give it time ppl. Don’t blame Koetter for the last 14yrs. He has been HC for 21 games. We are still rebuilding sorry and are a few pieces away from being competitive. Two more years and we will be at the top of this division, which is a power house in the NFC.
I love Gruden to death as a coach, but not even he could turn this around yet…. patience grasshopper….

  11. tmaxcon Says:

Maybe if we are lucky big softees will do another “I’m fake mad tantrum / dance” for the cameras after a meaningless play well after the game was decided in 2nd qtr… Now that’s leadership what a cloiwn and your team captain… captain blowout or captain excuse have not decided my fav yet

Hard to start fast when your captains lead a flat defense

  12. BoJim Says:

I sense that things are not going to end well this season. 🙁

  13. dm4bucs Says:

tmaxcon, I think you are onto something for sure. Multiple coaches and we have this happen over and over. Team either comes out “flat” or gets mentally broken after the first series…

When the game starts, it is on the players and “Captains” to get everyone to play with a certain amount of effort and energy. The thing the Glazers and our coaches keep doing, is we are afraid to bench players that aren’t showing the correct effort. It is time to bench VH3 or anyone else that isn’t playing at a playoff team level and not worry about who is behind them. “Next man up”, not just for injuries, but for effort as well.

  15. Kenny Says:

7-3 wont do it, Joe. How did 9-7 work out for us last year? 9-7 just wont do it. IF the Bucs lose on Sunday, they have to go 8-2 for a realistic shot at making the playoffs.

Right now they have to finish the season 8-3 for a realistic chance at the playoffs… 8-3. A scary thought.

  16. The Buc Realist Says:

Really like this coach!!!!! And you can tell the difference when the team woke up in the second half!!!! The incompetent one’s team and culture was to “stay down”!!!!!!! Unfortunately the culture is still a work in progress!!!!! and the distraction of nfl reality tv show was the start of it!!!!!!!! Fixing the roster and some maturity will go a long way with this team’s success!!!!!

And as Head Coach Koetter believes in the process, so does many of the “real fans”!!!!!! This roster was no guaranteed playoff roster!!! so Joe’s 10 or bust is meaningless!!!! Getting the team competitive is the real goal in the NFC South!!!!!!

    Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  17. Jim Says:

Who was that other “Team Leader”, “Face of the Franchise” guy? I forgot…

  18. D-Rome Says:

Getting the team competitive is the real goal in the NFC South!!!!!!

No it’s not. Winning is the goal. This fan base has been beaten down so badly that they end up doing the kind of mental gymnastics you are doing to excuse a poor job by the coaching staff.

The coaching staff is not doing a good job, period. The Bucs defense under Mike Smith is worse than Lovie Smith’s 2014 defense.

  19. blind melon Says:

Lol – I sense a lot of butt hurt here. And it amazes me how people are incapable of looking at this team and the situation objectively (and how some have some ridiculous troll approaches.) I get this is an emotional subject – but damn, look in a mirror.

They’re building a team, have a ton of talent now and with some maturity, added talent and consistent coaching we’ll have a contender.

Bottom line – They’re not making it easy on themselves right now, that’s for sure. It’s entertainment, be happy about watching a pretty exciting team win or lose – and try to not get caught up in all the rhetoric from fans or fan sites.

@Realist- Cultures aren’t created or re-created overnight and ejecting coaches every 2 years is NOT going to get it done. Fans often forget how bad this team was a few short years ago.

WTF!!!!!….so you like how dirk quit on his team?….you like his poor play calling?….you like his poor clock management?….I like the way he prepares his team(or lack their of)….you like how he cant develop Winston?….WOW…

the difference in the second half was the cards playing “prevent defense”….that’s about it!!!!!….a blind man can see they let off the gas!!!especially when pat p went out of the game!!!!!had they kept the pedal to the medal, the score would’ve been 56-12!!!!!

funny how other HC’s were able to turn things around quickly unlike dirk….rams, eagles and others….its not like the previous regime was here 6years….and we have a boat load of new players that were brought in by this staff!!!!!

your full of chit!!!!!dirk doesn’t get us to the playoffs with this much talent, he’ll be outta here quick fast and in a hurry!!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!

  22. Defense Rules Says:

@Blind melon … “It’s entertainment, be happy about watching a pretty exciting team win or lose.” Totally agree with the first part of your statement (It really is entertainment, not a life & death struggle), but the second part of your statement? Meh. There was absolutely NOTHING ‘exciting’ about the first half of the Cardinals game (well, unless you were a Cards fan). You could see the ‘deer in the headlights’ look in our defense AND offense right from the git-go. The Bucs comeback may have looked ‘exciting’, but to me that Cardinals team played totally different from the one that throttled us in the first half. All that counts is the ‘L’ in the ‘W-L’ column.

I’m in total agreement with your earlier statement … “They’re building a team, have a ton of talent now and with some maturity, added talent and consistent coaching we’ll have a contender.” But do recognize that THIS is the year most fans have been waiting for since Chucky left. All the pieces were supposed to now be in-place. Heck, folks were even talking about Super Bowl … even after our 1st game against Chicago. Then all the wheels went flat. I don’t hear too many talking about the Super Bowl any more.

I share your ‘amazement’ at folks fascination with ‘the trolls’ by the way. I’m convinced that my dog has a bigger vocabulary than tmaxcon … SAME CRAP over and over and over and over and .. aah, never mind. Anything to get the focus on him and off of the Bucs. Now THAT’S a true troll.

  23. 813bucboi Says:

Fans often forget how bad this team was a few short years ago.

that’s because we had no talent!!!!we have tons of it now!!!!being unprepared is on the coaches!!!!!play calling is on the coaches!!!!bad game management is on the coaches!!!!not developing your franchise QB is on the coaches!!!!!

funny how other coaches have changed their culture around in one offseason….take the bills for example!!!!!

    hold the coaches accountable!!!!GO BUCS!!!!

  26. sorryitriggeredyou Says:

He lost this team already. They are playing like a chicken with their head cut off. No leadership will do that. Koetter is out of touch. Bucs better prepare their anuses for Buffalo, another wake up call is coming.

  27. sorryitriggeredyou Says:

@Bucsfanman they are still just as bad.

  28. Pickgrin Says:

Kenny is correct Joe. 9 wins ain’t gonna cut it without getting very lucky.

In fact – 10 wins is no guarantee for playoffs unless 10 wins takes the division which seems unlikely in the NFC South.

Historically – teams vying for a wildcard spot have about a 60% chance of getting in with 10 wins (ask the 2010 Bucs about that one).

11 wins gets a team to the playoffs just about every time. 10 wins gives a better than 50/50 chance and 9 wins only provides about a 25% chance.

The # of wins required to earn a ticket to the big dance depends largely on the record that the other teams in the South and the other teams in the NFC wind up with – as well as how the inevitable “tiebreakers” fall (division record, conference record, margins of victory, etc).

But the bottom line is that 9 wins would most likely leave us out of the playoffs – just like last year.

8-3 the rest of the way is what the Bucs need to have a realistic shot at getting into the tournament for a chance at a Super Bowl ring this year.

That seems like a pipe dream sitting at 2-3 after getting manhandled by both the Vikings and Cardinals. But a couple wins over Buffalo and division rival Carolina the next 2 weeks would put us right back into decent position to get there.

It has to start this week. This team has too much talent to be in this position 5 games into the season. Time to turn things around starting Sunday in Buffalo. Season is on the line right now! Lets see some urgency for all 60 minutes this week.

    Get-R-Done Bucs!

  29. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

Personally it looks like the wheels are falling off. I said it last year the defense was playing above thier heads. Joe became a stats guy and stated that the defense was fine. Outside of McCoy and a guy nearing the end of his career at CB, there are no studs on this defense. Kwon is decent but is hurt or out due to PED usage to be considered good yet, there is zero pass rush, Spence is looking more and more like a bust, Hargreaves is definitely looking like a complete bust and a waste of a first round draft pick. There is no real talent and when you whiff on first and second rounders and pick up guys Chris Baker rather than going all in for Calais Campbell, eventually the lack of talent will rear it’s ugly head and you will start losing. It’s not as much scheme and coaching as it is a lack of talent.

  30. pick6 Says:

thursday morning the raiders were falling apart and david carr’s contract was being questioned. friday morning the raiders are a gutsy football team with a superstar rallying them back into the playoff picture. weekly overreactions are made moot by the action between the lines sunday. the narratives are of our making, not the team’s

  31. Bucsfanman Says:

@813- It’s true we have more talent, but we still need so much more. Yea, we definitely have some issues, I won’t argue that.
If you compare us to the Rams, that team is night-and-day from what it was last year. Jared Goff is benefiting from high-percentage, tailor-made, play-calling and their defense is keeping them in manageable situations. In my mind, we’re a more talented offense than the Rams. There’s no reason for us to be struggling like we are. Yes, the numbers are there, I know. We’re not putting points on the board and finishing.
I hope we can snap back with some ferocity and turn this thing around. Watching our defense last week was as bad as I’ve seen in a while.

  32. Not there yet Says:

I love Dirk he brought us the stick carriers but damnit if he is going to be a kill them with kindness type of coach and not go for the jugular on Sunday by trying to put up 30 points a game he’s useless. It’s not enough to win if your not trying to dominate, it’s not enough to come in to another teams house with a winning record, they have to have legitimate worries about some aspect of the other team and no one fears anything about a koetter coached team…. Gruden has that kind of mentality. I’m just saying

  33. Wewantgruden Says:

I have been a Tampa Bay Buccaneers fan since 1978, when I moved to Tampa. Yes head coach is way over his head. He is not a leader of men. He is not an alpha male. The players do not respect him. The Buccaneers unfortunately will lose all six games to their division rivals, which puts them at nine losses. They will also lose another 2 to 3 games to the other scrub teams. Bounce this head coach clown now so we can plan for the future.

  34. Lord Cornelius Says:

“he Buccaneers unfortunately will lose all six games to their division rivals, which puts them at nine losses. They will also lose another 2 to 3 games to the other scrub teams. Bounce this head coach clown now so we can plan for the future”

  37. LakeLand Says:

The Bills are coming off a bye and playing at home. The Bucs don’t get a bye, it will only get harder for the Bucs. By week 10, this team will be exhausted and ready to throw in the towel.

  38. unbelievable Says:

Actually the whole league is pretty wide open still. No one can say right now how many wins will be needed, although I do think 9-7 would be unlikely.

We just need to win. And we really need wins against NFC teams. I envision lots of tiebreakers coming into play this year for the playoff spots.

  39. Capt.Tim Says:

The biggest problem this season, is that the Bar was set unrealistically high.
Expectations were pressed by both fans and the Media

Yes, very soon, our offense will find its feet- and grow into a monster!!
Everyone in OneBuc place has dedicated themselves to finding Weapons for Jameis.
I still believe that was the right thing to do.

But you will not be a playoff winning team, or meybe even a winning team,
If you cant rush the Passer!!!!

Even during the “Weapons For Jameis” Campaign, we still had to aquire a DE.
You just cannot over look DE, in a 4-3 defense.

That failure alone will probably cost us the NFC south this year. Meybe even a winning record
I said this same thing, in the preseason, and last preseason, etc.

I never expected VH3 to be better than average, but dont think anyone anticipated his complete failure. Now that has to be addressed
