It Smelled From The Start

October 15th, 2017

Sputtering offense.

Joe sensed it in preseason games and sadly, it carried over into the regular season.

Now we don’t know for how long — if at all — America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, will be out. That hit he took to his shoulder today looked just like what happened to Aaron Rodgers today, and his injury was a broken collarbone. And it was the same shot that knocked out Bucs backup Ryan Griffin in the preseason.

This offense has just rarely looked sharp this year. It sputtered in August preseason games. At the time, Joe just waved it off as, well, the preseason, which is a complete and total joke. So far through five games, however, only in five quarters has the offense looked impressive. That’s not a good ratio.

An offense with this many weapons and a stout offensive line should not look this discombobulated. For whatever reason, the offense too often looks like a car running out of gas the way it jerks and twitches.

Until the offense is fixed — and it cannot be unless Jameis returns — this team is screwed.

Well I knew our secondary was suspect from the start

……..but I never could’ve imagined that Jameis and the offense would play so badly.

Now, I’m wondering as all other Bucs Fans……..do we have the right coaching in place because we all know they’re not bad.

    It’s very frustrating right now

  2. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Look at the bright side:
    1. Joe can keep calling Koetter “Winning coach Dirk Koetter” for at least one more week.
    2. Our backup scored the most points for us this year and it was in 1 half.
    3. Jameis went another game without an interception
    3. Swaggy Baker made an open field tackle of AP.
    4. Our new kicker is perfect.
    5. We didn’t quit but it looks like AZ my have.
    6. Our Punter is still our MVP

  3. NJBucsFan Says:

Stout offensive line?!?! Really? They didn’t block the player that knocked Winston to the ground…Smith had a drive killing holding call and the very next play allowed a DB to come off the edge and take down Crappatrick.

  4. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    LOL

    Good -ish TBF!!!!!!

  5. Captain Big Stick Says:

TBBF lol great silver linings. Our offense has looked good at times, never in the first half though. I would love to know what that is all about

  6. G-Money Says:

A Big Time Bucs Fan, that’s said in the past that because the Glazer’s have no loyalty, karma will take over. T-Kraz tonight said after a caller called out the fact that dirk was not this hot coordinator that teams wanted to hire as a HC, even after Mike Smith(Now suspect DC) was fired. Said “I don’t Know about That” ? and from what I’ve researched; it’s true. So hold on and hope for the best, and I hope I’m able to say I’m wrong about Dirk not being the ans. after firing a HC you never really gave a chance; I’m waiting to apologize and say I was wrong, but it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen anytime soon. “Go Bucs”

  7. BuccaneEric75 Says:

I don’t take anything from the second half of this game. If our offense actually kept the game close in the first half, Arizona would have scored 60. If our defense shut them out, our offense wouldn’t have scored 30. Arizona had the game won at halftime. They took thier foot off the gas. This was a MAJOR blowout. Anyone who thinks otherwise is just grasping at straws. Winston sucked and the Defense sucked. Nuff said.

  8. Wesley Says:

The Rams are better then the Bucs and that’s sad.

  9. ATrain Says:

There is a cancer in this locker room
It has to eat player who has been here for several years
We change coaches,Gm’s, players yet the same attitude: “OhWell we lost”

  10. ben Says:

The bucs are again in last place in their division .

  11. Waterboy Says:

The one thing that really jumped out at me during the first half (before shutting the TV off is the Bucs inability to run the ball. Not sure if it’s the line or or the RB’s but team’s don’t fear the Bucs running game.

  12. Waterboy Says:

3 drives before Winston went out:

Shoulder was injured at 9:10 in the first quarter. I didn’t see any inaccurate throws on that series. Their first pass of the game was a deep shot to Evans which was an over throw but that’s a low % throw anyway. Second play Martin for 2 yds. Third was a strike to Brate for 15 to convert the 3rd down. Fourth play was Martin for 1yd run on 1st down. Fifth play 8 yd pass to Desean to put them at 3rd and 1. Winston got a little pressure and stepped up in the pocket and rolled right and threw it in the dirt to avoid a sack which was when he came down on his shoulder.

Second series started with a run for 0 yds and second play was a strike to Howard for a 1st down. Third play another strike to Brate for a 1st down. Fourth play was another run to Martin for 0 yds. Fifth play pitch to Martin for 2yds putting them in 3rd and 8. Sixth play was a false start by Evans putting them in 3rd and 13. Seventh play a pass to Sims for 8 yds and a punt.

Third drive and already down by 21. 1st pass thrown away due to coverage. 2nd pass took another deep shot but after a replay everyone looked covered. On 3rd and 10 Winston hit Brate in the chest with the ball and it was dropped at the 1st down line.

Fourth series Fitzpatrick entered the game with the team down 24-0.

  13. jimmyjack Says:

This team just makes too many mistakes. They are also unprepared and are consistently out of position.

Our gameplanning of both sides of the ball generates nothing……it hasnent for years.

Our track record under this current regime is being badly outmatched against contending teams(the lone exception being Atl)

There is obvisous talent here in TB and all we can do is underachieve.

Buckle your seatbelts yall……We may be in for another really really ugly decade. We wont be recruiting any help in the offseason either. Good players dont wanna play for losing franchises.

One Buc Place is slipping into another comma……Was a fun ride!!! Hey at least we still have hope(BUCSBALL)

  14. jimmyjack Says:

    TBBF………..One more week….hahahahahaaha

I’m going to start puking out my kool-aid now if thats OK

  15. mark2001 Says:

    Gruden in the wings….

  16. Mr. E Nigma Says:

Winston is Jeff George minus the good years.

  17. chipbuc Says:

Lets be fair the offense didn’t lose this game the defense did. Palmer was perfect in the first half. Peterson was running wild in the first half . Arizona stormed up and down the field at will. It seemed like every play Arizona had a big gain. You can’t win games when your defense plays like that. The defense played better in the second half, but it was to little to late.

  18. Mr Ed Says:

    Joes –

Seriously? You’re penning a piece about the offense after that? Seriously?????

Mike Smith was supposed to have fixed the defense. They are worse right now than ever, and they supposedly have talent.

Glazers will be asking Smith for their money back or letting him pursue head coaching opportunities early.

  19. firethecannons Says:

Koetter needs to get a better play caller. Mike Smith needs to explain why Hargreaves is allowed to remain on the field, Jason licht needs to make some trades–we need cornerback now and pass rush now, otherwise the season is over.

  20. DalvinCookRules Says:

this is SUPER interesting. The story of the game was the DEFENSE and ONLY THE DEFENSE, yet these people were baited into talking about how bad the offense looked and they fell for it. Wow, just wow! It’s no wonder people do things like believe in curses & ghosts, just the lack of rationality from these humans will never cease to amaze.

  21. Mike Johnson Says:

I told all of yas the last few days Bruce Arians would have the Cardinals ready. They jumped on us like bees stinging a donkey’s A.. Beginning of the 2nd qtr, My wife looked at me and said, Blade Runner or American Made? I arose from my couch and off to the movies we went. Blade Runner 2045 was much better than our Bucs. I can’t wait for..Excuses Monday. You are what your record says you are. And we are not winners. We are a below 500 team. I have no pity for my Bucs. None whatsoever. 6 out 0f the next 8 are on the road. Grab some Wood Tampa Bay Bucs..Grab a big piece and hold on! My emergengy value for the..Den of Depression is the..Emergency Sunday movie with the wifey.

  22. EA Says:

This team is accustomed to changing coaches after 2 years, not finding a decent kickers and trading talent.
Sure seems like this trend is starting to take shape.

  23. EA Says:

Seems like Kwon needs to return, without him this defense has always played poorly, going back to Lovies last season when he got suspended.

  24. BigScott Says:

How does the head of an local sports station… I know everybody knows who I’m talking about J Mamola allowed to diss are team and fan base Fu$k WDAE!!!!!!!

  25. Matt B Says:

I don’t think there’s is anything “stout” about our offensive line. I think there’s potential to be a good unit but I think they’re highly overrated – last year and this year. Running backs routinely get hit in the backfield and I don’t trust our LT to pass protect. You can’t tell me if you ranked all 32 starting left tackles in the league that Donovan Smith would make the top 25.

  26. Shane Says:

Hated the playcalling once again. When Patrick Peterson left the game we took advantage of some mismatches but this game was over after 1 half.

  27. Dirty Bucs Says:

Joe, when are you going to learn that Jameis IS the problem with the offense. The inconsistency IS the problem. Stop being blind to what’s really going on here, and just admit we have a lower tier QB in the NFL. Average is a stretch for him.

  28. Lamarcus Says:

    A train

I agree. There is a cancer. A long living one. It is said that when a player experience chronic losing he will never learn to win. Never. So u have to rid of them and bring in winners. Losing and looking like trying win is 2 different things. I saw losing today.

  29. Gnawesome Says:

Biggest misconception in football is the preseason is worthless, any coach worth his salt will tell you that “you play how you practice” we’re talented af, just not a well oiled and cohesive unit. Most of it is poor execution, enough of it is on the staff on BOTH sides of the ball. After 5 games we’re obviously not a team that can “turn it on”

  30. JonBuc Says:

Koetter once again looking like a career coordinator at best ( including his unremarkable stint at ASU )…and I never really liked Mike Smith since he was the smarmy Falcons coach. The outta nowhere 5 game winning streak fooled many of us into thinking this team was/is legit. Mediocre at best…wouldn’t mind a Gruden return for nostalgia purposes if nothing else.

  31. Lev Says:

Don’t forget the defense. Can someone check and see if Lovie Smith is still running this team?

  32. Bobby Says:

If this continues I think we should all take a knee on The Buccaneers flag. Geez…..pathetic first half. And on a day Atlanta and Carolina lost.

  33. 813bucboi Says:

@gnawesome….your right….we saw this in preseason…I’ll admit, I was one of many saying, they’ll turn it on when they matter but boy was I wrong….they all matter even preseason and they haven’t turned it on yet….this coaching staff is a joke….this is worse than lovie….at least lovie was depleted with talent….dirk has all the talent in the world and he’s doing nothing with it….GO BUCS!!!

  34. John Ensch Says:

I’m beginning to wonder if we really need to get Jameis back. At least the offense was scoring TD’s in the red zone with out him. I don’t care what anyone says I don’t see where Jameis has improved. If your gonna say by not throwing interceptions then I will say you don’t throw them if your afraid to throw and just keep pulling the ball down. I not saying I want him to throw INT’s he just doesn’t look comfortable back there.

  35. Bill Byrne Says:

I don’t think any rational person can claim Winston as “America’s Quarterback” and we have to remember he backed into the pro-bowl status as a replacement and his play this season has been average at best. The pre-season was an indication to me that the BUCS were believing all the hype and they were not a serious contender for the NFC South title…I was right. This is a team without leadership…from the head coach to the players and after 10 days off how can you possible come out on Sunday, against the Cardinals, and play like that? Disgusting and they will not recover this season…it is over. Teams with winning records are ahead for them and it is going to get ugly.

  36. Jimmy T Says:

Ben McAdoo HC of the Giants decided to turn the playcalling over to someone else so he could “Focus” on both sides of the ball. The Giants beat Denver last nite. This offense doesn’t resemble last year at all. It relies on too much down field passing. Where are the 12 play drives with run and short pass mixture. Nowhere!! Koetter empties the backfield on 3rd and a short 2 from midfield after Djax caught an 8 yard pass from Jameis. It was 14-0 & we needed that first down. Instead Jameis dropped back and looked for WR & TE downfield. No one open, Jameis caught from behind and lands on his shoulder. Game Over. Get the first down, run it twice!!! What happened to Koetter. Run the F Ing ball and move the chains. Dirk is not Gruden & this team has Zero Hall of Famers on Defense so maybe Dirk should give playcalling to Monkin and motivate the entire team. With Smith in the Box maybe it will help. The season is on the line

  37. Jimmy T Says:

I also get the impression that Koetter doesn’t like Jameis. Hopefully I’m wrong but if that true Dirk u will lose. Jameis is going NO WHERE so get your act together and get your head straight. U have a great opportunity, dontbblow it Dirk.
