Excellent closing points Ira. Bucs have some MAJOR personnel issues, both now & in the near future. And it’s not all on Jason Licht … this has been going on for years & years.

Start with the DLine: McDonald (30 yrs old) is a UFA in 2018, as are Siliga & Clarke. Good chance none of them get re-signed. GMC is 29, Baker is 30, Ayers is 32 (Yup, we have an ineffective & OLD Dline). That’s 2 draft picks (probably 1 DE & 1 DT) PLUS 1 FA (probably a DE) right there as an absolute minimum if we expect to improve. Look at the CBs: Grimes (34 yrs old) & McClain (29) are both UFAs in 2018 (won’t even mention that VHIII is miscast as an outside corner). Even if we can talk Brent into re-signing (which I seriously doubt right now), we’ll still need to draft AT LEAST 1 CB (high pick for an outside corner) PLUS sign at least 1 FA (preferably 2). Finally the safeties: TJ Ward (30 yrs old) & Tandy (28) are both UFAs. Gut feel is that we’ll pay big $$$ to re-sign both, simply because we don’t have enough draft picks to draft their replacements.

And that’s just the defense: We’d have to hit on at least 4 draft picks next year who could either start or at least play a substantial number of snaps next year, plus 2 or more FAs who’d be taking starting slots, plus re-sign several of our own UFAs. Odds of all that happening … even assuming no injuries to any of them … pretty close to ZERO. And the next year it gets even worse, what will all the big $$$ re-signings Licht will have to make. Bottom line to me is that the product we’re seeing on the field right now may well be ‘as good as it gets’ for several years. If we expect to be competitive, Bucs’ offense better start putting up 30-35 (preferably more) points per game. And they need to start doing that QUICKLY.
