“Complete Disconnect That I’ve Never Seen Before In My Career Around Bill Belichick”

October 4th, 2017

“Bill, looks like you got Danny Gorrer and E.J. Biggers out there.”

A trusted member of Bill Belicheat’s inner circle this decade sees an absolute mess in the current version of the New England Patriots defense.

What a beautiful thing.

Joe is talking about Mike Lombardi, who was an adviser to Belicheat from 2014 to 2016. Before that, Lombardi had a long career in the personnel departments of the Eagles, Browns, 49ers and Raiders.

Jump two minutes into this video below and you’ll hear Lombardi talk about how the Patriots defense is delivering “free-access” touchdowns, all part of “a complete disconnect that I’ve never seen before in my career around Bill Belichick.”

On Sunday, Joe spent time listening to the Patriots radio network call of their loss to the Panthers on Sunday. Man, the team analysts were in stunned disbelief by how the Pats secondary continues to repeat mistakes — big ones. Joe also watched the Panthers-Pats game this morning. The New England defense literally conjured memories of the garbage Lovie Smith served up in Tampa.

Through three games, Buccaneers receivers have played great football and the Tampa Bay pass blocking has been better than good. If nothing changes for either team, the Bucs should be able to ring up serious points tomorrow.

This is the game Djax goes off for 2+TD 100+ yards

  2. CautiousOptimism Says:

Sounds like a great opportunity for a healthy Doug Martin to hit the ground running. Oh wait, he is no longer a good football player. I forgot.

  3. DB55 Says:

As Dirk said in yesterday’s pc – they gonna fix that chit and they gonna fix it quick. Don’t count on blown coverages for Thursday.

Seriously though as dirk said they have too many good players and are to well coached to continue this disconnect.

  4. Pickgrin Says:

Evans, DJax, Cam, OJ, Hump and Godwin all liking their chances to make plays tomorrow night.

Love that the SB champs are coming into town floundering with so little time to shore up what they’ve been doing wrong.

  5. BoJim Says:

They are still the Patriots. Don’t sleep on them else Brady will make them pay.

  6. GhosofSchiano Says:

D needs to step up. Don’t want to see Brady throw for 400 yards.

  7. sorryitriggeredyou Says:

@IndyBucsFan please let this happen. DJAX GOES OFF!

  8. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Bucs have 31st ranked pass defense and Pats have 30th, bucs better score some points this week

  9. '79Defense Says:

Key words “should be” able to ring up serious points. It seems like a lot of “should be’s” never happen– especially with the Bucs. Example: They “should be” able to shut down the Vikings backup QB. They have been horrible on Thursday night football. It “would be” great if they could put it all together and get a win.

  10. Negative Jeff Says:

BB will have a plan for JW. I have a feeling they will rush 3 and drop the rest into coverage on passing downs. This will cause JW problems because he still is locking on to receivers. Bucs fans, reality check, they are not beating the Pats. Not gonna happen. The Pats will magically correct their problems this week. That’s just the Bucs’ luck.

  11. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Negative Jeff if that happens doug martin will run for 300 yards koetter isnt some slappy that just fell off the turnip truck..drop 8 and koetter will put that pats defense at 32

  12. Not there yet Says:

Defending Superbowl champions against a team that hasn’t been to the playoffs in over a decade. After the first quarter of the season the Patriots are being talked about as if we’re playing the browns. Of course I’m expecting a win that’s one thing but delusional fans in Tampa talking like we’ll stuff the stat sheets and dominate is another. When did we start acting like we have a playoff spot already locked down when we’ve only played 3 games and third in our division? Oh that’s right it started in the off-season like it does every year.

This team hasn’t earned that kind of praise to assume they’ll beat the Patriots….. Go out and do it against last year’s playoffs teams then that’ll prove they belong

  13. Pick6 Says:

it seems reasonable that if training camp and preparing for 4 games hasn’t gotten these things rectified, they won’t suddenly be better 100 hours later for the thursday night game. bucs will need to top 45 points to win tomorrow, so it’s encouraging that the pass defense is feeling generous.

  14. J 2.0 Says:

Everyone calm down. This is the defending world champions we are talking about. The greatest coach/QB ever.

Great offenses play bad on TNF and bad defenses play great on TNF. lets slo our rolls a bit.

  15. AlteredEgo Says:

Typical Buc fan trap…do you know how many times the Bucs lost to this logic/scenario……

  16. Buc1987 Says:

I don’t expect shyte anymore as a Bucs fan. I just watch the game, enjoy it for it is win or lose. Winning of course is the objective. I can go into a game thinking they might win or lose, sure, but to expect it one way or the other. Good luck with all that.

I think the Bucs have a shot tomorrow.

  17. Pick6 Says:

a big part of me is hoping for something like that Monday Night Rams game in 2000. see saw battle with lots of scoring and crazy plays that ultimately sees our bucs prevailing over the defending world champs. both teams certainly have the defensive track record this season to oblige

  18. NOSBOS Says:

Ghost if Mike Smith drops 7 or 8 in coverage he won’t throw for 400. If he doesn’t,anything is possible w/ brady.

  19. AlteredEgo Says:

I am hoping for a game like the season opener….

  20. NOSBOS Says:

This Mike Smith’s game to win or lose. All comes down to his gameplan. Hope the old man will be lucid.

  21. AlteredEgo Says:

Hoping for a screen shot of Giselle crying….

  22. Cannon Says:

It’s nice to talk about how bad the Pat’s secondary is.

Until you realize that our’s is worse.

  23. McBucs Says:

Of course Tampa can win. The Cam had not even scored a TD before Sunday’s game. Pats are beatable.

  24. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Cannon right on and the Pats have some legit players back in their secondary for them to be that bad and probably have at least 1 sack this year

  25. AlteredEgo Says:

^^^^ all this and…no NFL team likes to lose…..especially to the Bucs

  26. 813bucboi Says:

@nos…I hope that’s the game plan…stuff the run and keep 6db’s on the field…if smitty wants to be a HC again he’ll create something real special.GO BUCS!!!

  27. Defense Rules Says:

NOSBOS … “This Mike Smith’s game to win or lose. All comes down to his gameplan.” Can’t agree on that one NOSBOS. It’s Dirk Koetter’s game to win or lose. All comes down to HIS gameplan. Get ready for a shootout. Bucs will either win 42-35 or lose 45-21. All depends on our offense.

  28. NOSBOS Says:

Defense “IF” Mike Smith floods the passing lanes with extra bodies this game will be a route in our favor. Look man when I watched the pats opening night I was like “who are these replacement players on they’re defense???”. Can’t fix 456 yards given up a game in three days bro. Simply put they suck. Everyone knows Belichess attacks your weakness and stays away from your strength. We currently rank at the top of the league in run defense. I’m sure brady has already been brief they’re throwing the ball 50x. This must be countered with a heavy pass defensive scheme or gameplan.

  29. Brad Isherwood Says:

JW can exploit the Pat’s shakey D.
1st quarter is big…..Ring the bell and get Pats sideline in panic.
Tampa needs to hit on every field goal…..these are power points.
10,10,10 after 3rd quarter is good closing numbers.
JW spread it around against Giants. …
If TB can run the ball and keep the chains moving……the TD/FG will happen
Bucs can get National attention with the Big Win over Pat’s.
The lead story of NFL week 5
High 5’s as the Cannons fire : )

  30. NOSBOS Says:

The falcons were executing this to perfecto in the superbowl. This philosophy granted them a 25 point cushion. This game does not have to be a shootout.

  31. NOSBOS Says:

It’s currently in mod defense but my rebuttal will appear eventually.

  32. NOSBOS Says:

Our advantage is the short week. Belichess is at his best when he has extra time to prepare for you.

  33. gilhealy Says:

Darn right we got a shot. We’re good. We can beat anybody. It’s up to us. I’m looking for J. Evans to have a role. The kid looked good Sunday. I’d love to see a little contact from our DB’s before the route. Gotta mess up TB’s rhythm. Couple of picks should do it.

  34. Rod Munch Says:

Well for the Bucs to keep up with the Pats, Dirk is going to have to call a good game on offense, something he really hasn’t done since he became head coach. Go look at what the Pats did to New Orleans, on the road, a week after they got humiliated at home. I don’t see how the defense stops Brady as they can’t get pressure with the front four and if you blitz him he’ll kill you. Maybe the defense just goes balls out and gives up big plays in hopes creating turnovers because I can see the Pats easily not punting more than once or twice the entire night.

One thing that maybe slows down the Pats is there is a chance of rain, including a small chance of thundershowers, and it is expected to be windy. While Brady isn’t Brees in terms of needing windless conditions, a really windy wet night might slow him down a bit. Of course it might slow down the Bucs as well, but with Martin back, assuming he plays, maybe they can move the ball and keep some time of possession so the defense isn’t spent by the middle of the first half.

  35. BucEmUp Says:

Are you serious? We are talking about a team coached by arguably the best coach of all time. Dont bank on them being a bad team or one oy playing well. Remember what happened two weeks ago against a career backup. This is tom brady I dont give a rats arse about theyre defense.

  36. Defense Rules Says:

Still think our defense’s best shot is to play lots of man-to-man, rushing 3-4 and dropping 7-8. Hoping Smitty throws in a lot of 3-4 also. And yes, I can see Brady throwing 40-plus times; 50 if Pats win the TOP battle. Bucs offense HAS TO step up tomorrow night or we’re in trouble.

  37. ChiefInspectorClousseau Says:

Bucs fans — c’mon. The Bucs are the team that porous defenses turn into the Steel Curtain of the 70s, and Brady is quite capable of a greatest show on turf thing against the ailing and starstruck Bucs. Have low expectations. It will be better for the team. amraK

  38. darin Says:

You guys are nuts. The Aints shut down cam. Then the patsies turned him into case montana. There will be no magic fix in 3 days. Not for the bucs pass rush either. Should be a shootout. Bucs 38-34.
