Blame It On Barth

October 14th, 2017

Beginning of the nightmare.

The Bucs have been in a kicking funk for a few years now and it seems the source of the ugly rut has been found.

Jenna Laine of ESPN.com has taken on the grueling task of looking through the garish recent history of Bucs kickers. And who should the Bucs blame? Connor Barth and his basketball-playing ways.

It all started in 2013. Barth ruptured his Achilles tendon playing in a charity basketball game that July and missed the entire season. His replacement, Tynes, contracted an MRSA infection that ended not only his season, but his career; an MRSA infection also cost Pro Bowl left guard Carl Nicks of the Bucs his career. In 2015, Bucs kicker Patrick Murray, who succeeded Folk this week, tore his ACL and landed on injured reserve.

Barth, to his credit, was playing in a charity basketball game. His head may not have been in the right place as he damned near threw away his career, but his heart was in the right place trying to help his community.

Has it been a comedy of errors since? Sure, between the MRSA and the second-round pick and directionally-challenged Kyle Brindza in-between, kicking has been total nightmare for Bucs fans for three seasons.

Barth came back from injury and was fine ! He was a solid worthy kicker always for the Bucs . Still don’t know why they gave up on him , most accurate kicker in team history . Regardless hopefully Murray can get us going in the right direction .

    Oh WOW joe!!!!

I can’t believe you went there!!!!!

    LOL!!!!!

  3. TheBucsAnthem Says:

From what I understand, is that the BUCs were looking for a kicker with a stronger leg and accuracy beyond the 50 yards mark….

…..but they never found that kicker

  4. BFFL Says:

More accurate title is “Blame it on Licht”

  5. Dewey Selmon Says:

    The ghost of Bill Capece..

  6. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

Not sure where you went Joe! Maybe BucsAnthem is in on something the rest of us aren’t!

  7. Pickgrin Says:

As if we needed reminding – SMH.

Even the “best” kicker in Bucs history Gramatica was only “good” for 4 seasons before the yips got into his head and off the cliff he went…

Maybe Donald kicker (Iggy) could do a George Blanda impersonation and make a comeback….

  8. Tampabaybucfan Says:

How about lets blame it on MARK DOMINICK……for letting Matt Bryant go….for no good reason.

Mark Dominick was an absolute disaster for the Bucs….and we are just now starting to escape his incompetency.

  9. Good ole Buc's fan Says:

I believe they weren’t happy with his short kickoffs.

  10. gotbbucs Says:

Uhhhhhh……no. It started when they released Matt Bryant.

  11. Pickgrin Says:

Speaking of George Blanda – take a look at his career stats – WOOF

Man kickers sure have come a long way. Blanda never broke the 70+% accuracy mark his entire career. In 1963 – he made 9 out of 24 kicks for the Houston Oilers (37.5%) – and Kept his job!!!! Of course he rewarded the Oilers the next year by hitting 44.8% of his kicks and the following year (1965) he even broke the 50% plateau with a blistering 11 for 21 performance.

LOL – Agauyo could have been a star NFL kicker if he’d only been born 50 years earlier.

  12. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I loved Barth, but he had a weak leg while in Tampa.

  13. CautiousOptimism Says:

Blame Jason Licht for the last 4+ years. Someone has to be responsible for the personnel on the field.

lol………….and who said Roberto Flamingo would’ve made those kicks 50 years ago?!?!?!?!

Infact, he probably would’ve missed more because the NFL was rougher allowing for many gruesome hits without penalties…..he soft fragile psyshe couldn’t handle that!!!

  16. Blake_Bucsfan Says:

    uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh what?

How you figure it started with Barth when it clearly started with your beloved “Rock Star” Gm not resigning Matt Bryant.

  17. R.O. Says:

BB.. Barth did not have a weak leg. He hit 3 50+ FGs in Miami. He was a very good kicker tor is b4 he blew out his Achilles.

  18. Rayjay1122 Says:

Gotta go with Blake on this one. Never should have let Matt Bryant walk.

Well now we agree cause of the situation we’re in…..but no one cared back then.

I still remember that emotional game for Matt Bryant when he was drilling kicks and there was something going on with his daughter……that was an amazing game because he won that game for the Bucs and even the announcers were saying they didn’t know if he can make that long kick cause his leg was good up to 50 yards in terms of accuracy…….but he made it.

    Anyways……..hope Pat Murray does well.

  20. Baz Says:

Let’s ask the real question here:
Why is Barth’s fist in the above picture non-proportionally tiny compared to the rest of him? It looks like when Deadpool was regenerating his hand, and it was a baby hand at one point!!

  21. orlbucfan Says:

Can we go back to wearing the same uniforms in that picture? The new ones are beyond hideous!

  22. unbelievable Says:

    No no no.

Blame it on dummynick- the pop star. We never should have gotten rid of Matt Bryant. That’s when the problem started.

  23. Buc1987 Says:

orl…sporting my Lynch 47 while out a shopping yesterday. Those jersey’s blow these new ones out of the water. 2 peeps commented on the jersey.

  24. Pickgrin Says:

    The current Jerseys SUCK.

Fix this uniform mess you created Glazers!

  25. Buddy Says:

Barth was let go because the Bucs went cheap & didn’t want to pay him. And last time I checked he’s doing perfectly fine, hasn’t had any issues finding a job is the league. While the dumpster fire that is the Bucs org still looks clueless in personnel & coaching decisions.

  26. JonBuc Says:

Barth was becoming one of the better kickers in the league when he foolishly played some charity basketball ( not the charity part certainly…but when your livelihood is your leg(s)…playing pick up hoops is begging for trouble ). His achilles of course popped as has bounced around the league since. Signing Mike Nugent to replace Bryant was a bad move before Barth was a Buc as many have commented on as well.
