Skip Bayless Responds

September 11th, 2017

Target of GM’s barbs responds.

Last week Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht may have had one of the funniest quips in the history of “Hard Knocks.”

In so many words, Licht said being stuck in a cross-country drive with FOX Sports personality Skip Bayless would be worse than being waterboarded.

Of course, Licht’s takedown of Bayless found it’s way to Bayless. And partially because of Licht’s outburst, Bayless has serious doubts about the leadership of the Bucs and wonders if America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, will ever be able to max out his talents.

“I must admit I have a slight bit of new bias,” Bayless said of picking his NFC playoff teams and omitting the Bucs.

“As much as I love Jameis — and I really love Jameis … I just don’t know about the coaching staff and I would throw the GM, Jason Licht into that group. Not impressive. A little high school-ish. After a while, I say, ‘These guys are running the show?’ I’m starting to think that the ceiling is a little lower for Jameis and company and all the new talent around him because of the coaching staff, and I will throw Jason Licht into that.”

[Joe’s note: Bayless pronounced Licht’s name in German by calling him “licked,” not “light,” which would be a correct pronunciation if Licht was from Germany]

Joe rarely — and Joe means very rarely — watches Bayless and his show on FS1. Maybe Joe saw it once for a couple of moments while surfing. That’s it. When Bayless was on BSPN with screamin’ Stephen A. Smith, that tripe was just unwatchable from all the hollering and ignorant posturing and redundant, predictable, boring subject matter (vapid non-basketball association babbling, for example).

Drafting a kicker aside, Licht has been a solid general manager. His grand slam of 2015 (Jameis, Donovan Smith, Ali Marpet and Kwon Alexander) may just go down in Bucs history as the second-best draft.

With an eye for talent like that, Joe is convinced the Bucs are in good hands.

I thought bayless comments came first Joe. Licked was responding to that mess, i thought. I could be wrong tho, heard that somewhere. Yeah I cant stand him either, not sure many can. Go Bucs

Want to say thanks for still putting stories out @Steve & Lee, my lights have been out for hours now but thanks to modern phones and technology, I can plain as day see the radar image of Irma’s eye heading str8 for my neck of the literal woods. But i can also log on to JoeBucsFan at midnight in the middle of a hurricane for some temporary distraction revolving around my favorite sports team. Appreciate it guys.

  3. Buc4lyfe79 Says:

And in the catch phrased words from the best time period in what is now called WWE history, skip bayless can suck it.

  4. Buc50 Says:

I’ve tried to watch Skip Bayless and I can assure you that Tripe is much better

You are welcome! Joe doesn’t believe in snoozing, even in a hurricane.

Already have quite a few stories written and scheduled for Monday. If Joe had to drive some place to find power and WiFi, he’d do it to post stories. 🙂

No clue what Bayless said previously and there was nothing in Licht’s classic rant to suggest he was responding in any way to whatever Bayless has said in the past.

  7. 1sparkybuc Says:

Bayless is a prime example of a person with questionable qualifications being overpaid for suspect opinions. He’s 180 degrees out on this one, and will never admit it. Licht has a great sense of humor. Bayless doesn’t.

  8. James Walker Says:

    Bayless is clueless.

  9. Defense Rules Says:

“Joe doesn’t believe in snoozing, even in a hurricane.” LOL. I must admit Joe that with winds howling outside right now even I’m having trouble sleeping. (Now know that wife was wrong when she said I could sleep like a baby through a hurricane).

Same! Hard to go to bed. So Joe broke out the Crown Royal about an hour ago.

  11. James Walker Says:

Bayless comment was from Tampa Bay Times in August 31 and posted as follows: “Bayless sold on Bucs’ Jameis Winston, not on Dirk Koetter” But you know what Joe, Skip Bayless is a moron plain and simple. He loves to hear his own voice, no matter what he’s talking about and doesn’t know much about the game of football. As always Joe another great job with your posting about our team the Tampa Bay Buccaneers!! WE’RE ALL FLORIDA STRONG TONIGHT! GO BUCS!

  12. Joe Says:

    Thanks James!

  13. Kstoges Says:

it’s bad and I know it is but honestly I’m just such a sports head I’ll watch anything sports so I do watch those shows but just from time to time they do say retarted stuff but skip doesn’t mean everything he says either he gets paid to stir the pot

  14. NFLNut Says:

**** JOE **** Are you crazy? 2nd best Bucs draft? Any draft with Jameis in it will go down as the Bucs greatest draft when all is said and done imho and the 2014 draft with Jameis/Kwon/Ali/Donovan may go down as one of the 5 greatest draft classes of any team in NFL history when all is said and done!

  15. BigHogHaynes Says:

I like Skip and Steven A. …just ranting their opinions just like the rest of the commentators of the world including Joe’s opinion! It is my opinion that D Smith is playing out of position, that should have been corrected in the off-season Jason Licke, it is also my opinion that this draft class (class of 2015) will not gain world-wide praise until they have some more winning seasons under one season winning head coach K!!

  16. matty thorsen Says:

Hey Joe you just jealous because Stephen s Smith makes 3 million a year to speak on air and you can’t get a free beer in a sleazy bar when you open your piehole.

  17. BKNYfootballhead Says:

    This story is inaccurate
Why you continue to maliciously blast Joe’s credibility is baffling. Good-bye from commenter world. All the proof of the accuracy here is in the audio link below. –Joe

  18. Defense Rules Says:

BigHogHaynes … ‘until they have some more winning seasons under one season winning head coach K!!’ Somehow it doesn’t sound like you’re totally on-board with Coach K but he is batting 1,000 (1 season as HC … 1 winning season). Admittedly EVERY coach and his coaching team need to prove themselves by winning BigHog, but Dirk Koetter seems to have set a pretty good foundation for the future. And yet you’re right … only time will tell.

  19. Piratic Says:

Get your head out of your BigHogHaynes!

  20. ClodHopper Says:

I find debate show completely and totally unwatchable. Both sports channels and political channels. 100% Brain cancer. These shows get some of the highest ratings on these channels tho. Ain’t that crazy? Just like porn, no one admits to watching but their success proves otherwise!!

  21. BuccaneEric75 Says:

Yea Joe, Skip started it first by calling Koetter and his staff high schoolish and will limit how far this team can go, then Licht had his epic hard knocks rant, firing back at Bayless. Now Skip is firing back, including Licht in the mix this time. Skip is just looking from afar. Is Licht a little goofy and dorky? Yes. Is Licht doing a good job getting players? Yes. Is Koetter hard on Winston? Yes. Is that a bad thing? No. Koetter knows how good Winston can become, and he won’t settle for anything less. Go Licht/Koetter and F Skip! And: you go, Joe. You go Joe!!

  22. Bojim Says:

Guess that’s Skips way of saying neener neener.

  23. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

The Joe’s are freaking amazing! My wife and I decided Friday to head out of the state and keep our kid’s out of the possibility of harm’s way. Dreading the drive back now but still happy it wasn’t as bad as feared. While up here in Alabama I just assumed there would be very little news on this site with everything that was going on. Man was I wrong! They are still churning out good articles even in the midst of a hurricane. Trust us Joe your articles were a welcome reprieve from the gloom and doom covering the airwaves that past few days. Thank you for all your hard work!

  24. BigHogHaynes Says:

Defense Rules : Joe calls him “winning head coach Koetter”…I just added “one season”, seems more accurate to me!

  25. @Hand2theface Says:

Bayless, Nick Wright, Steve A Smith, (I’m sure there’s more), are nothing more than click baiting, argument enablers. That’s their job. All they do. Nothing more. They know it and do it well. True analysts work hard to provide factual info based off of studying tape and history.

  26. Joe Says:

Hey Joe you just jealous because Stephen s Smith makes 3 million a year to speak on air and you can’t get a free beer in a sleazy bar when you open your piehole.

    LOL!!!

    Hold on there, partner.

When you select Warren Sapp and Derrick Brooks back-to-back in the same first round, that’s awfully tough to beat. Two Hall of Famers in the same draft is damned good.

  28. stpetebucsfan Says:

    BigHog

It’s hard to not get the feeling that you simply cannot get past your hurt fee fees over all the Lovie hate here and the fact that he was fired.

I fought with Realist supporting Lovie through the first year…saying give him more time. Then they started the second year “Tennessee ready”. I hve NEVER in my long life seen a more poorly coached team than those Bucs. It still hurts me to hear or read “Tennessee ready”.

Lovie sucked as the Bucs coach! He had full control over the roster…Licht worked for him not the other way around.

Koetter has won one more game than Lovie in a single season compared to Lovies’ two! Lovie is a career .506 coach even with that SB year tossed in.
Koetter is already a .562 coach.

Koetter will have to mess up badly to descend to Lovie like horror.

  29. stpetebucsfan Says:

BTW Since Bayless likes to make things ugly and personal…is there an uglier dude on TV. He has a face made for a newspaper reporter where he started.

Where are his teeth. I suspect he simply has two fangs curled up like most snakes.

  30. NFLNut Says:

JOE, you stated, “Hold on there, partner. When you select Warren Sapp and Derrick Brooks back-to-back in the same first round, that’s awfully tough to beat. Two Hall of Famers in the same draft is damned good.”

Believe me, I do understand the Brooks/Sapp draft will be tough to beat, however not only do I think that Jameis/Kwon/Marpet could all be in the HOF one day … I also think that just drafting Jameis alone will assure the Bucs at least two SB rings before it’s all said and done.

The above said, I’ll ask YOU a question: If the Jameis/Kwon/Marpet/Smith foursome leads the Bucs to TWO SB rings but only Jameis makes the HOF, wouldn’t you still consider it a better draft than the Brooks/Sapp draft? I would.

Have a great day JOE and keep up the great work!

  31. Joe Says:

If the Jameis/Kwon/Marpet/Smith foursome leads the Bucs to TWO SB rings but only Jameis makes the HOF, wouldn’t you still consider it a better draft than the Brooks/Sapp draft? I would.

Depends how the foursome play. Two Hall of Famers is a helluva class. Currently, NFL Network has that rated as one of the 10 bests drafts in history.

Joe just hopes to be alive to see Jameis retire (which may not be until 2035!) with (at least) a Super Bowl ring.

  32. passthebuc Says:

    This is Tampa Bay

Why would we listen to someone that is Bay-Less

  33. darin Says:

    Joe
I dont mean what Skip previously said, i mean what he is saying in your story. You said skip bayless responds, i assumed to lichts comments. What i was saying is this skip bayless nonsense in your story came first, then lichts comments about bayless. All i meant. Either way i could care less about bayless comments. Go Bucs

  34. Sapp, STFU Says:

Maybe his name is pronounced “Brainless,” but I might be a little biased.

  35. unbelievable Says:

Bayless was sh*tting on our coaching staff a few weeks back before that episode of Hard Knocks came out.

Good thing he’s completely clueless on every single subject ever.

  36. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

Lol, Fluck Bayless. And his show on FS1 is horrible, hence the horrible ratings.

That was Lovie Smiths draft! Along with Mike Evans!
