Kwon Out; And An Injury-Report Correction

September 22nd, 2017

Out

The Vikings may be down starting quarterback Sam Bradford, but it appears the Bucs could be without a few starters Sunday.

That flu bug affecting some Bucs is real, but only three guys are on the Friday injury report under “illness:” defensive linemen Chris Baker and Jacquies Smith, and left guard Kevin Pamphile.

HOWEVER … Joe screwed up on an earlier report here stating Pamphile has the flu. Bad form by Joe assuming like that. Joe is embarrassed. In fact, Joe has learned there is solid hope Pamphile can be healthy Sunday.

If the Pamphile can’t go, Evan Smith is ready. In a league aching for solid offensive linemen, it’s great that the Bucs have exceptional depth.

Sadly, a red flag also went up on Kwon Alexander, who didn’t practice today, even on a limited basis. Keep in mind Friday practices are hardly grueling with a game on Sunday. Kwon, however, had insisted on social media that his hamstring is just fine and he’s ready to play. But team doctors didn’t agree and Kwon officially was ruled out.

This must be a really nasty flu to have kept guys out all week and to already determine them doubtful on Friday. No excuses though!!!

  2. Old Bill Says:

Jenna Laine tweeted that Kwon is out, I hope she’s just full of it…
Joe updated this. Kwon officially is out.–Joe

  3. BoJim Says:

The flu will put your ass down. 300 lbs or not. I got my shot two weeks ago. Feeling pretty damn good too. Seriously it’s next dude up. Depth will get us to the playoffs.

  4. Philip Says:

All the Bucs players and staff need to get their flu shots every year

  5. Supersam Says:

This will be a good test for beckwith.

  6. Capt.Tim Says:

The biggest issue, with Kwon and Baker out- is that it will make our running the 3-4 defense difficult.
We ran it successfully againt the Bears running last week, with Baker playing NT, and McCoy/Gholsten at DE

  7. NOSBOS Says:

F your circumstances,we line up and ball. Think those people in minny won’t miss bradford.

  8. 813bucboi Says:

whats up with benenoch?….e.smith scares the hell out of me…..GO BUCS!!!!

  9. unbelievable Says:

There’s a chance these guys with the flu could be feeling better by Sunday, especially Baker who should be getting over it if it’s already been 3 or 4 days..

Beckwith played good but I would damn sure rather have Keon in the at MLB and Beckwith at the SAM

  10. Ben the Ga Buc Says:

Just a PSA: getting a flu shot does not mean you won’t get the flu. You just will be vaccinated against a particular strain of flu, what is thought to be the most common strain at the time. Just want to make sure folks are aware. Still a good idea to get one.

  11. Dreambig Says:

Had this strain of flu last week. It was a bit*h. Takes a good week to get energy back to back to normal

  12. Dreambig Says:

Having said that, I didn’t have a team doctor 24/7

  13. Leighroy Says:

Concerned about Kwon’s hamstring. Why does the dude always have pulled hamstrings?

Pulling muscles should be inexcusable injuries for professional athletes. Hydrate! Stretch before you play! Do some yoga! If this is your “Achilles heal” then do something about it Kwon!

  14. Capt.Tim Says:

    813Bucboi
Benenoch played last week, I had trouble counting his snaps- but Id say 10-20 snaps
But all at tackle. Mostly right tackle. Didn’t actually see him at LT.
Evan Smith is actually a good Guard. Far better than he is at center

  15. 813bucboi Says:

good to know he has played a bit….I thought he was going to be a swing player like pamphile playing both T/G…maybe he’s not there yet….

regarding evan smith…I hope your right….GO BUCS!!!!

  16. stpetebucsfan Says:

And epidemiologist friend of mine said Flu shots are a bit of whizzing in the wind.

Sometimes they can work but they are based on last year’s strain of flu. A new mutation occurs every year and so you are basically protected against last year’s strain…this year…good luck!

  17. stpetebucsfan Says:

    Ben

Sorry just read your post and you are correct. Didn’t mean to duplicate you.
Obviously though I agree with your PSA!

  18. Oxycondoms Says:

Flu season usually doesn’t start in September it’s probably some other virus

  19. NOSBOS Says:

Boggles my mind people actually pay for that ish. Never had a flu shot never will yo. That’s crazy.

  20. Bucfanbf Says:

I only got the flu shot 2 times in my life and I got the flu both times after the shot. I will never ever get the shot again.
With us missing a couple key players on defense I betcha the Bucs offense comes to life this Sunday and torches the hell out of them Vikings!!

  21. SB Says:

I have lived up here in Montana for Five years and have only had the flu once and it was a three day deal. Funny how much worse the Flu is down in Florida. My family battles it all the time.

  22. SB Says:

I only got the flu shot 2 times in my life and I got the flu both times after the shot. I will never ever get the shot again.
    …………….
Amen to that. I never get flu shots and never get the flu. My family down in Fla get flu shots every year and get the flu every year. They claim it makes it milder. SMH

  23. Zwak Says:

We still got this one relax!

  24. stpetebucsfan Says:

    NOSBOS

I lived the same life. Never had a shot…never had the flu….but I concede that coincidence is not the same as causation.

I was talking with a physician about a drug that had some onerous side effects.

I said the research showed that the drug helped slightly less than 1 out of ten but the bad side effects hit over 70%. I’m not sure our society can make rational decisions anymore about drugs because Big Pharma owns us…our entire government lock stock and barrel. Just pay attention to the “possible” side effects after each drug commercial.

We can’t get affordable drug prices in America because Big Pharma is like the Mafia…they simply buy out Congress…and in a bipartisan fashion!!! This is not a Republican or Democratic problem…it is an AMERICAN problem. Other nations do not have this problem.

They say they need to recoup there research costs…hogwash…they could simply take the money they plow into advertising every ten minutes on TV and plow that into research.

  25. Buc4Lyfe79 Says:

Sorry to say this but look for Wrath of Kwon to be out probably half this season now. He hurt his hammy in training camp, had a month to rest it, then it flared up on him again before halftime last week. That equals the need for extensive rest which will unfortunately keep him out of being able to stay in “football shape.” Welcome to the NFL Kendall Beckwith, may the wind always be at ur back… now, go SIK EM!!!

  26. SB Says:

The ‘Flu Shot’ is a sham by the Medical industry to make money. How did they ever get people to believe that by injecting with the virus it will make them less susceptible to it?

  27. SB Says:

I hope you are wrong Buc4 but I have a bad feeling at the same time.

  28. Joe Says:

Concerned about Kwon’s hamstring. Why does the dude always have pulled hamstrings?

“Always?” This is the first time he’s missed a start due to an injury.

  29. GoBucYourself Says:

Team and family members got their flu shots today at One Buc – a bit late perhaps, but since flu shot effectiveness is south of 50% (south of 40% in some studies) it probably comes to nothing. And unless the vaccines are properly handled all through the chain of custody, effectiveness can fall to zero. This has me thinking of a former NFL trainer who, a few years back, accidentally left the team’s batch of swine flu vaccines in his car trunk overnight. Totally ruined. He kept his yap shut and dutifully delivered the vaccines to the head trainer the next morning.

Seriously? Could I take a stab at guessing your politics, and your favorite news sources?

  31. Defense Rules Says:

SB, I’ve got a bad feeling about Kwon’s hamstring too. Most everyone who’s played sports has pulled a hammy at one time or another & recovering from that is never easy. Time off & rest seems to be the only sure cure. Kwon’s the type of player though who’d beg to be on the field if he was run through all the way with a Samurai sword (much like Spawn I guess). Kendell Beckwith has impressed me though, and I think he’ll do fine anchoring our defense at MLB … he filled in there for Kwon very nicely against the Bears.

  32. Defense Rules Says:

Capt Tim, http://www.pro-football-reference.com shows Benenoch as having 9 offensive plays & 6 ST snaps against the Bears (great website BTW for getting stats on each game, but seems to take them about a day to post the detailed stuff like snaps).

  33. AceofAerospace Says:

Last year I would’ve panicked. This year, not so much. I am convinced this team is ready. Next man up. Hurry back Kwon, but come back healthy.

  34. Capt.Tim Says:

    Defense rules-
Thank you very much. Ive been looking for a site like that.
Its really difficult trying to keep track of the Offensive linemen, as the huddle breaks quickly, and cameras dont focus nearly enough on line play!

At least I Lucked up and was in the right range! Lol

  35. SB Says:

There is ABSOLUTELY no way I could agree with you more Defense. I hope he is full strength by Thur Night against the Pats. That is when we need him most.

  36. Mike Johnson Says:

batter up Beckwith! Next man up New England’s been doin it got years…No excuses. Also time for reserve linemen to step in for the FLU cases. Its the NFl and nobody gives a rats A..if you are healthy or not. All that matters is a victory! AT THE QUICK STEP….MARCH!!.

  37. SB Says:

@Capt. Tim………There is NO better site to find out about Football past than Pro Football Reference.com. College too!

  38. unbelievable Says:

    @Leighroy-

I think you’re speaking of Mike Evans, who had some hammy issues a few times in his career. This is the 1st time for Kwon.

  39. Capt.Tim Says:

    Thanks SB!
Thanks again to Defense Rules and you.

Finally – a site that tracks Oline snaps.
Im a big believer- as the Oline goes, so goes the offense!
Although I am admittedly bias! Lol

  40. Jeffbuc Says:

Forget a flu shot. I will never have one again got one and I was sick as a dog that night. Had the flu for a week. I will take my chances if not coming into contact of the flu versus injecting into so I’m sure to get it.

  41. Jeremy Says:

This is the beginning. Dude is just too small for the mike

  42. gilhealy Says:

No need to be embarrassed Joe. You got solid stuff. No harm, no foul.

  43. adam from ny Says:

flu shots are actually very unhealthy and a lot of people have been steering clear of them in recent years…do some research…

they should all these guys on iv’s and a steady dose of hookers to keep their spirits up, and they should be all good by sunday…

  44. adam from ny Says:

    typo above ^^^

they should have all these guys*

  45. frank n furter Says:

8 years in the Pharma industry. Multiple college degrees including physiology. Yes flu shots are a sham. At BEST they are effective 10-20% of the time and 2 out of 3 years they KNOW they have the wrong strain but SELL it to you (your hospital/pharmacy/insurer) anyway. AND the government CDC will recommend it even though they KNOW it won’t work that year in order to “protect” the profits of the drug co. Plus, they still preserve adult vaccines with thimerosol (mercury) and use aluminum adjuvants that are both extremely neuro-toxic. The only decent argument for selling us the useless garbage is that we don’t want the drug co (Merck?) that sells the vaccine to quit because they lose money. So the US government insures that this private corp makes a HUGE profit every year!!!!

  46. Oxycondoms Says:

Explain then why most of the people who get flu shots are older people who are on Medicare and guess who winds up picking up the tab it’s the government . So I guess they are screwing over themselves by paying for something that they know doesn’t work? Yeah you people make a lot of sense
