Koetter Calls Out His Practice Wreckers

The gruesome twosome for the Buccaneers’ offense
Dirk Koetter offered a window into the trenches after Bucs practice today — training camp Day 6.
Asked about J.R. Sweezy and the edge he brings at right guard, Koetter changed direction.
It was as if Koetter said, “You want nasty? Focus on No. 93.”
“No one ever talks about it: The guy who dominates practice every day is Gerald McCoy. You can’t block that guy,” Koetter said. “You think he’s offsides, [but] I’m sitting up there clicking the tape back 20 times, the guy’s got the best get-off. He’s tough to stop. He wrecks half of practice, and Robert Ayers is right there with him. But, yeah, we’re excited about what J.R. can bring. He’s still getting back into game shape, as well.”
Joe has a few thoughts.
- McCoy haters and bashers. Go find a nice corner to throw a tantrum in.
- If McCoy is dominating and is wrecking practice, then get him some more rest. It’s his eighth season.
- The inclusion of Robert Ayers is intriguing as it relates to Noah Spence’s playing time.
If Ayers is dominating, then he’s got to be a starter and get a big chunk of reps at defensive end. Will Gholston is a true manbeast against the run at DE, so he seems like the perfect complement to Ayers on first and second down.
Where will that leave Spence? Can he crack the starting lineup? Would he flourish as a situational pass rusher?
Joe’s pumped to see the defense performing so well. Hopefully, they’ll be able to punch Joe Mixon in the mouth repeatedly in the preseason opener at Cincinnati.

Mccoy deserves the rest, he’s the best player on the defense . We need him healthy.

This is how I know schiano can evaluate talent. A long time ago the first thing he said about McCoy is : “he has elite get-off. He has an incredible first step” schiano over did it but he knew talent when he saw it. Dominick shouldve let him draft every pick. Sorry to the haters but those that think McCoy isn’t a beast either don’t know a damn about football or expect a 290 pound man to win games by himself. Tmax:Aaron Donald wins games-which is why the rams suck every year. And there’s a guy named Robert Quinn next to him

If McCoys get off isn’t obvious to you then it doesn’t mean you are a great talent evaluator. What has he done after that? Lead the NFL DTs in sacks and tied the last couple of seasons to name a few things.

I thought the bucs were potentially looking atohave some 4 LB schemes which would make Spence a little more flexible.
