Jameis: “It Made This Atmosphere Electric And That’s What We Need In RayJay”

August 5th, 2017

Jameis speaks

The wild and historic environment at today’s rather meaningless training camp practice was a hot topic among Buccaneers, including America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, himself.

The first “Training Camp Takeover” delivered by the Stick Carriers, Bucs Uncensored & JoeBucsFan.com led to a flooded overthrow crowd that had Bucs and local fire officials working together to open up more space safely.

The chants and cheering for players started early and often.

“It made this atmosphere electric and that’s what we need in RayJay,” Jameis told Joe after practice.

Jameis spent a lot of time (20 minutes?) signing autographs after practice and thanking the Stick Carriers.

“Keep this going to opening day,” Jameis told one fan.

“It means a lot. We love our fans. I’m so happy everybody came out,” Jameis added to Joe.

But it wasn’t just Jameis. Veteran Robert Ayers said he’s never seen anything like this before a training camp. “It was pretty cool. Very cool. And a bunch of people out here flew in from different places. I’ve seen [the Stick Carriers] on Twitter. They’re into it. They brought a lot of energy to practice. For me personally, I’m in such a zone in practice, in my own world, it didn’t affect me. But a lot of players were into it. They really were.”

And J.J. Wilcox, who played in front of rabid Cowboys fans for years said he never saw anything like that in Dallas.

“I’ve never seen anything like this before. It was great. That’s what we play for and that’s what you live for, to hear the crowd and give them something to cheer for and then to keep working,” Wilcox said. “We thought it was a student section at a college game, but this was practice. It was special, to keep hearing the crowd and keep grinding and going. Oh, man! This is the dog days. These are the days that you have to dig deep and find out what kind of a man you are and keep going. It is good.”

Linebacker Devante Bond said the Stick Carriers brought a game-like atmosphere that made a difference.

“Man, that definitely helps,” Bond said. “When you see the crowd out there yelling, it definitely helps. Today, it felt like, it wasn’t like a real game. It was kind of like my JUCO games. It feels like a JUCO game. It was really loud. It felt good.”

As Joe mentioned in today’s comprehensive practice notes, Vernon Hargreaves may have been the most visibly and consistently pumped Buccaneer at practice, when it came to the crowd.

“They did bring the energy. It helped motivate us,” Hargreaves said. “Helped get us through practice. It was really cool,” he said.

Jameis was raviing, twisting, and turning, and jumping so much at the “Ja-meis Wins-ton” chant when he first came out I was afraid he was going to injure himself. Even Alan Cross got a chant, and I was sitting right behind JJ Wilcox’s parents, and they seemed to be having a good time and liked the attention for our new Safety. Right down from me was the family of Adarius Glanton…who also appreciated the support.

Hump looked solid. The fifth spot is going to be a war, not a bad problem to have. Howard is a monster, simple as that. Brate is great. I don’t know how teams are going to game plan for us, no clue. Stevie T is a wiiiiiiiiiiide load. Baker was swaggy as advertised. KWON is king. Jameis is ripped and ready, also signed my sweaty shirt somehow. He’s the truth. Though that was cool hearing the fans pumped up, the practice was pretty much an awful experience if you were unfortunate enough to not get to sit in the stands (like myself)
