It’s Preseason

August 22nd, 2017

Has proper perspective.

Yes, we all hyperventilate over a good play in training camp. Sometimes, because everyone is so eager for the season to start, some will try to make camp meat into a Pro Bowl player.

Fan favorite Chris Conte has a word of advise for Bucs fans: Chill!

While it’s nice to make plays in training camp or a preseason game, Conte told Joe today that it’s all frosting on the cake until the real bullets are flying when the Bucs square off against the Dolphins at Joe Robbie Stadium Sept. 10.

Joe initially asked Conte, given how good the defense was down the stretch last season, if it could even be better this season.

The Bucs defense can be “as good as we want it to be,” Conte said. “I think we just have to put the work in. [But] it doesn’t start until Miami. Right now it is just practicing and working together. We will see how it goes.

“We haven’t played a game yet, so who knows? Yeah, we added some players and we kept a lot of the same guys. So we will see Week 1 against Miami.”

And Conte makes a lot of sense there. These preseason games are exhibitions for a reason. Until the real games begin, it is all just an educated guess.

Remember, the toothless 0-16 Lions under Rod Marinelli were undefeated in the preseason.

I get that But the g men starting offense is yet to score a touchdown. Like last season they lack a run game and they’re O line is currently all out of whack. Yea Its pre season but you wanna see some thangs that make you as fan feel good about the approaching kill off Sunday.

I am not concerned at all about this season. So long as injuries don’t kill us, we’re going all the way.

Yes, we might start the season a little slow…might…because it may take time for things to gel. But this team is destined for big things.

  3. Defense Rules Says:

Bonzai, you might not be concerned at all about this season, but I sure am. I’m convinced that the NFC South is the toughest division & that winning the division this year will take at least an 11-5 record; maybe even a 12-4 record. Besides the Bucs, Atlanta & Carolina are both capable of doing that this year, and New Orleans always plays us tough (especially in their house). Panthers appear to have the easiest schedule, followed my the Saints, then us, with the Falcons most likely having the toughest schedule. Bucs have the starters to take the division IF we bring our A-game every week. But the wild-card in this whole thing will be not just injuries as you said, but what positions on the team get hit with the injury-bug (we’re deeper at some positions than others it appears).

@NOLE…I agree….you got to show me something in the preseason….

i’ll tell you what tho, the browns starters looked decent last night….they should go ahead and start the rookie Kizer because brock is trash…he showed flashes but also showed why he was booted from Houston…the rookie came in and put points on the board….he showed something…..brock showed nothing….

@bonzai…don’t under estimating the competition or be overly confident…..GO BUCS!!!

I’m not sure about panicking over our schedule. It seems to me it will come down to can we beat the teams we should. If we do…we should be able to jump out to a 5-2 start before we even hit our division schedule.

Miami? Really? We have a better team. Da Bears at home…a trap game for us because we seem to choke against teams that are clearly inferior to us especially at home!

Minnesota not that intimidating…the Gmen should be better but we should be able to beat them at home. So we lose to the Pats at home and split with Buffalo and Arizona on the road.

I love the way our schedule sets up. We get our bye week late…week 11 and we finish with 3 out of 4 at home including the beatable Lions and the two division games against Atlanta and New Orleans.

I mean really…I agree our division is tough but the way the schedule lines up is very favorable to us.

Defense until I see cam even throw a football I wouldn’t include them in the convo. Three are still some issues with that shoulder, that and they are suppose to be going to a more timing base offense. The pocket not cam’s strongest ability.

  7. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

He may be right in some cases but the back end look horrible friday night or the starters did and that was the weakest spot on the defense and in a division with all the wepons the South has and great QBs they better get on their A game now

I have to agree with you Defense.

Wise words of tempered and realistic expectations.

    But still……
    Go Bucs!!!

(Just don’t start buying the hype …. just yet)

Reading too much into pre-season games is always a mistake. But its nice to see so many good signs from our 1st team offense thus far. And defense hasn’t looked too bad either.

Keep working men – its a marathon – not a sprint. The sprint for the finish line comes in January if we manage to do well in the marathon.

So far so good IMO. Minimal injuries to this point. Starting Oline looked good last week vs a solid front 7 – so that’s a very good sign.
