Gene Deckerhoff Is the best in the business, period. I wish I could find audio of back in the day when it was Mean Gene and Jesse The Body Ventura in the booth. As a kid I loved that combo with Gene playing the straight man to Jesse’s amped up wrestling promos he’d cut on the refs and our opponents.

Oh and Al Keck was the 3rd man in the booth and actually did OK.

To this day I still often turn down the TV broadcast and turn on the radio – I just wish the radio stations were smart enough to sync the action with TV like they used to before Janet Jackson popped out her T during the Super Bowl and they put in that delay. Using a DVR you can sync it up but it’s a pain.

I just learned that Gene Deckerhoff actually went to UF.

    Mind blown.

Hey Munch — I have to tell you, when I listen to Deckerhoff, I have no idea what is happening on the field. He might have been good once but I think he’s been on too many prop planes from Tally to Tampa.

  4. RayJameisStadium Says:

@RM I also enjoy Gene. I rather here Touchdown Tampa Bay from Gene than anybody else. He is getting rusty though. At times Dave Moore is correcting him. But I still rather listen to him.

  5. Rod Munch Says:

Hey New, maybe you should spend your Sunday’s manning interstate bathroom glory holes – it doesn’t sound like football is your thing.

    God bless.

    @ Munch or anybody knowing

Is there any relation of the two coined nicknames of Mean Gene Okerlund & Mean Gene Deckerhoff both having broadcast time with The Body?

  7. Rod Munch Says:

@BKNY – “Mean” Gene Okerlund I believe got the name while in the AWA in the early 80s (well before he was in the WWF) while Jesse Ventura worked with the Bucs in 1989 and parts of 1990 I believe so it was well after Okerlund had the name, The Body calling Deckerhoff that was just a natural since his name was also Gene.

  8. NewTampaChris Says:

Hey Munch — No apostrophe needed in “Sundays” but hey, I appreciate your witty repartee.

  9. Rod Munch Says:

    Good one.
