Chris Baker Kicker Maker

August 16th, 2017

Trash talks kickers.

Now we’ve finally seen what Chris Baker excels at.

Thus far through roughly three weeks of training camp and one preseason game, the biggest impression new defensive tackle Chris Baker has made has been living up to his reputation of not liking practice.

Oh, and that he’s a good dancer.

Baker, who is a really cool guy, was featured a bit in tonight’s episode of “Hard Knocks” indirectly. It was clear from early in the episode, and what we knew took place over the weekend, that Roberto Aguayo and his demise was going to be a prominent element of tonight’s second of five season episodes.

And the kicking game sure was.

In practice, Baker was shown standing behind both Nick Folk and Aguayo and trash talking, trying to throw them off on purpose. Baker, whether it was crafty editing by NFL Films producers, or based in reality, seemed to save his harshest kicker trash talk for Aguayo.

First, it was Folk’s turn to get hazed.

“Here ya’ go, here ya’ go,” Baker hollered. “He’s about to miss this one right here. Hey Folk! Miss this sh!t real quick! Real quick, real quick, real quick.”

Folk boots the ball wide right.

“What did I tell you?” Baker yelled. “What did I tell you?”

Then, up stepped Aguayo.

“He’s got to miss this one because he missed the last one,” Baker screamed. “So he’s still thinking about it. Watch this sh!t!”

Aguayo badly pulls the kick left.

“G@# dang, boy! What did I tell you?”

Then, Aguayo kicks again.

“Wide left, wide left, wide left!” Baker screams. Of course, Aguayo misses, but the opposite way.

“Wide right!” Baker exclaims. “I’ll take it!”

Then the camera shifts to Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht’s office. It appears Licht has one of his personnel people sitting in his office and Licht gets a text, presumably from a Bucs staffer on the practice field. “Today… ” Licht sighs as he reads the text. “Roberto was 3 of 7.”

Funny Joe, I was thinking the same thing about Baker. So his talent is talking sh!t? Lol,hopefully he starts turning it on in the games that count.

Saw the footage of the Stick Carriers in the beginning too, but no official mention of it by hard knocks.

You hear Jameis yell, “Thank you!”

  3. unbelievable Says:

    Sure did!

Good to see another angle of him running out so pumped up from the crowd too. (just don’t slip Jameis!)

Then he’s getting the crowd juiced for the other QBs…

“They can’t pronounce Fitzy’s last name” lol

Baker did us all a favor. If you get rattled in practice, we don’t need you come game time.

    Baker over Dontari Poe?

    Mistake of the decade!!!!

    Baker looks like a partier!

Bags under his eyes. Watch his preseason snaps!

He slides left and right to avoid contact!

    I wanted Dontari Poe!!!!!!!!

    ahhhhhhh!!!!

Baker’s trash talk segment is one of those things you’d never even know existed without Hard Knocks. It was very funny. And it must have had the coaches’ blessing.

  7. Bucn Enough Says:

If he put as much effort in to practicing as he does trash talking and B.S.ing, we will be OK…but so far he looks like another FA bust by Licht.

  8. Mike Johnson Says:

I could care less about the..Stick carriers. They are not playing and they..cannot win the games on the field. Players do that. Its fine that the crowds are juiced. But Winning and victory are the real Juices! I like Baker talkin smack to the kickers. Because it shows what kind of pressure they can handle. And during an away game, fans are gonna be yellin worst than that!!

  9. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I think Baker was out of line personally.

Teammates should be encouraging excellence, not try to wreck it.

  10. SOEbuc Says:

Haha, I didn’t even realize Baker was trying to put any pressure on them and help them in any way. I just thought he was being a total and complete jerk.

I too enjoyed the Baker “pressure.” I agree with the poster that says he did us a favor.

As far as practice – I don’t think he will be a problem when the bullets start flying, I’m stationed in VA and of course I’m surrounded by Redskins fans; I had the same concerns as you guys so I talked to some of them about him, they tell me this guy is a gamer.

From what I’ve gathered, he may be arrogant. He knows his ability and feels like he can turn it on when he wants/needs to. He just having fun in practice and saving himself.

Good thing we have depth at DT, it will take him a few more games than others to be in game shape since he not practicing well.

Anyone else notice Baker sounds like Andre the Giant?

    Let it go Teacherman

You will see Baker has been WAY more productive than Poe. Not even close, Poe’ s best accomplishment is a sub 5 40yd dash.
