“I Can’t Be Giving Out Free Money”

August 11th, 2017

Generosity has limits.

Gerald McCoy is a charitable man but even he has his limits.

This week, the Bucs stud defensive tackle make an appearance with the creator, curator and overall guru of ProFootballTalk.com, the great Mike Florio, during his intelligent weekday morning show “PFT Live,” seen on the NBC Sports Network.

There, Florio was told by Bucs officials that GMC had a limited amount of time available for an interview and that he had to get to a meeting. So Florio asked GMC what would happen if he decided to hang with Florio and show up late to a meeting. GMC was rather direct about the ramifications.

“Money gets taken!” GMC said. “The fine system is in full effect. I can’t be giving out free money.”

GMC also spoke about the “Hard Knocks” experience, his kimono, and recounted a story about how former Bucs defensive end Adrian Clayborn nearly had to be rescued as he was in physical danger in New England.

He won’t give away free money but the guy sure likes to take free money.

  2. tmaxcon Says:

hell need that money to help invest in Glennon, Murphy and Bell insurance agency. Nice to see Glennon so successful in his preseason debut.

  3. InJameisWeTrust Says:

Strikes me as a non-story. No player likes to be fined. Even the wealthy ones.

Can’t be cutting that ice cream fund my brother…..

  5. Bucsfanman Says:

Funny! I saw that some folks had already commented and since it was GMC, just knew that like clockwork, my friend tmax would opine.
Yeah, definitely not a good showing for Glennon! Was he O-fer? I didn’t read the stat-line.

glennon was glennon — playing scared / tentative and dropping balls at receivers feet. He looked so slow and lost. He plays with so little enthusiasm I think his o-line took a nap. it’s far to say glennon made Jamarcus Russell look like a world class sprinter. He was making TickDr Proud with his performance because it looked just like when he was here going 5-13

  7. Bucsfanman Says:

    tmax-

Ouch! I was hoping that he’d do better. He’s going to make starting Trubinsky an easy decision at that rate. Oh well, moving on.
All I know is that I’m so ready for tonight. Yea, I know it’s preseason but good gawd, this has been a long off-season.
The Tito’s is in the freezer and the wings have been pre-ordered. Belly up Buc fans!

  8. ChanEpic Says:

    tmax-
Yep re:Glennon. He looked slow and was responsible for 2 turnovers in the first quarter. That brought back memories of the pre-Koetter Bucs. If that were a real game Glennon would have lost it, IN THE 1st QUARTER. Holy moly I’m glad we’re not THAT team anymore.

  9. Hawaiian Buc Says:

Watching the beginning of that video, it’s clear that Mike Smith has no clue what he’s talking about. Why would I listen to the coach when we have such amazing insight right here?

i hear you man. I have the Jameson ready. any football is better than anything else on tv. i get joe’s hatred for preseason but bad football is still better than crap tv or sequels of sequels of sequels on the move channels.

  11. Piratic Says:

@Hawaiian Buc: I know…we are so lucky, right? All we need to do is consult the current gaggle of JBF experts to understand exactly what’s happening with the Bucs! And some of them even know what the players are THINKING!!!
It’s truly amazing. I feel so grateful.

  12. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @Piratic,

Exactly. Why would I listen to the coaches and front office say that a guy is a hard worker and great leader when I can hear it from someone who knows so much more. Even though this person has never once met the player and has never even been in the building, he can give us insight based strictly off reading into the comments of a few, as well as film study based off a TV broadcast. Clearly we are all blessed.

  13. Phil Says:

If GMC changes his mind we will all be here for him.

At the risk of repeating myself I’m going to take a page out of Realist’s posting bible and, well, repeat myself (minus needless excessive punctuation), but only because it’s pertinent to this discussion:

…however some fans are delusional (characterized by beliefs or impressions that are contradicted by reality or rational argument) and some are not. When your belief is contradicted by reality or rational argument then you are delusional. When the NFL community, players, coaches (including most importantly his own – see vid), etc, cite GMC as one of the best of his position that’s reality. When you argue against that, that’s delusional. End of story. It’s just not that hard to refute nonsense.

For the McCoy haters. McCoy is an excellent player…as has been said so by everyone playing with him, every coach he ever had, and those in the know. He honestly signed a contract with our organization. He shows up and plays hard. You don’t like him? So be it, but honestly it sounds like couch potato minimum wage envy. You want him replaced with a “better player”… OK…so who is that? Give us the name and we can discuss that player and whether you are talking out your backside or if it is even feasible.

Now if you don’t like him as a person, just say you don’t like him as a person….your choice…free country. But don’t diss his game. It only makes you sound uninformed or small and green with envy….

  16. Steven007 Says:

I apologize to most for the double post. However some people probably do need to see it twice.

  17. tmaxcon Says:

when he takes over a game and dominates it will be his first in 7 years. i could careless about all the other meaningless crap he’s easily replaced. the team needs winners not carrer losers who celebrate loses. the leader of the losing culture is a me first camera hound who disappears when it matters most. simple as that.

    ————-

First of all, you are incorrect. He has taken over games before. However, a 3 technique can take over a games and not be noticed by the average fan. They don’t typically get a lot of sacks, as their job is to filter the plays to other players. If he wasn’t dominating games, why does Mike Smith say he is a tremendous player? Why did Schiano say the same? Why does he always land in the top 100? Why does everyone but Dumb and Dumber say he’s a great player? You see, that’s what makes you stupid. It’s not that you don’t realize that he dominates games. You aren’t a football coach and don’t watch the game tape. You also have no idea of his assignments on each play. However, what makes you stupid is that you don’t listen to the people that are football coaches. You don’t listen to the people that do watch game tape and know the assignments. You are a complete tool. If you are so confident in your analysis, I challenge you to go to One Buc Place and tell someone in the know to their face. Hell, I’ll meet you there. You won’t, because you’re a clown. Go ahead, prove me wrong.

  19. Hawaiian Buc Says:

McCoy has had 3 sacks in the first half against Atlanta. He should have had a 4th, but he thought Ryan released the ball so he let up. Is that not taking over a game? Oh wait, that probably doesn’t count because he was on a losing team, right? He has had several game saving plays just last year. Why does that not count as dominating? Oh wait, because he didn’t have 3 sacks? You see, that’s the problem. You seem to only count “dominating” as putting up big numbers late in a meaningful game, on a team with a winning record. Well guess what genius, that hasn’t happened around here. And before you stupidly blame McCoy for that, he’s not the one putting Myron Lewis at CB. He’s not choosing to line up next to Fat Albert Haynesworth. He’s didn’t sign Josh McClown as our QB, nor did he hire Lovie, Schiano, or Dominik. You place the blame on the wrong people. And again, what makes you stupid isn’t that you say it once, it’s that you say it over and over and over again, despite the literal hundreds of people trying to educate you. I guess it’s true what they say – you can’t fix stupid.

  20. Bucsfanman Says:

@Hawaiian- I’ve almost totally given up on trying to quantify GMC’s accomplishments on this site. I think that even if GMC does blow up, the same guys will be looking for things to criticize. Winning. Winning is what is going to mute the noise.
Get ready for it. It’s coming!
    Go Bucs!

  21. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @Bucsfanman,

Yeah, I know. I just do it for kicks. I have a feeling most of the haters are the same people anyway. He just wants attention to make up for not getting any attention in life.

  22. K-Mac Says:

Buc believer what free money is he taking your the person he is talking about

  23. SOEbuc Says:

He could be able to take care of his children’s, children’s, children’s, children’s possibly if it didn’t totally get blown away somewhere down the line. I would hope Gerald would get a good investment agent and put some of that dough in the market, also.

  24. SOEbuc Says:

    I’m sure he has one.

  25. Capt.Tim Says:

Dont blame him. I wouldnt pay the enormous fines the team charges- for being late to meeting- just to talk to some TV host

  26. Capt.Tim Says:

Oh, And Tmaxipad is an idiot
