Brent Grimes: El Gato

August 15th, 2017

GM talks Bucs star CB.

Call him “The Cat.”

Or, in Spanish, Bucs corner Brent Grimes is “El Gato.”

In just plain English, Grimes is just a damn good corner.

In a scene on tonight’s “Hard Knocks,” the second of five episodes, Grimes was featured. Not just with his colorful wife Miko, but how he balls out on the field.

“Hard Knocks” focused on how well Grimes can hang with Bucs star receiver Mike Evans. Even though Evans has some eight inches on Grimes, the veteran cornerback always found a way to high point the ball and break up the pass.

Grimes hasserious hops. After showing Grimes sticking to Evans like glue, the cameras flipped to a board room where Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht and his personnel posse are breaking down film of Grimes going mano y mano with Evans. Licht’s staff is seen chuckling in the background at Grimes’ crazy skills.

Someone offers up that Grimes has the athleticism of a cat.

Licht laughs and asks, “So if we take Grimes and drop him off the balcony he will land like this?” And Licht sticks out his arms at full length and half-clenches his fists, pretending to be a cat with its claws outstretched, landing on its feet.

Grimes not only has the serious hops, but the smarts to go along with them.

Dude has got game and he is at the peak of his career in experience. Give him an extension this year.

So Grimes is 34… if he’s on the wrong side of 40 you’re saying Winston and everyone else on the team is on the wrong side of 40 as well. I’m not sure you actually know what means.
