Better Accuracy

August 19th, 2017

Improving.

Yes, Joe is in the tank for America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston. That doesn’t mean Joe is an ostrich. If Jameis effs up, Joe’s going to call him out.

But Joe thinks too many Bucs fans just nitpick this guy to death. He overthrows balls. He underthrows balls. He can’t hit deep passes. And more.

Hell, he’s the best thing to happen to this franchise since the Bucs traded for Chucky.

One goal the Bucs had for this season was to improve Jameis’ accuracy. And per winning Bucs coach Dirk Koetter, that seems to have happened.

“Well, the percentages would say that,” Koetter said when asked Friday if Jameis’ accuracy is better. “The numbers we keep in practice are up about that same percent – about 10 percent higher than he was in training camp last year. There’s a big enough body of throws in there that if you were a stat guy, you could probably say that.”

As far as the overthrows, Joe will just say he hasn’t seen Jameis overthrow DeSean Jackson yet.

You know what Joe wants to see more than accuracy? More touchdown passes, specifically in the red zone. That’a a helluva lot more important stat than accuracy.

Better mechanics and better receivers…simple as that. As long as he doesn’t throw the ball while being on his back, we are in for a great ride this year.

  2. DoNUTS Says:

#3 does look more accurate. He has 2 areas to work upon:

He just needs to eliminate the forced plays where he is better opted to take the sack. If he does that in playoffs, we wont go far as the threshold between winning and losing is that fine a line.

He needs to be more in tune with DJAX. It still looks a little out of sync at times. DJAX makes up for that as he is a great athlete. Speed is unbelievable and #3 may take 3 weeks to really start throwing with more anticipation to DJAX.

The GOOD>> #3 play recognition and choosing the 1-2 option on each play has also jumped up and I think as a result #3 may get close to that coveted 5K mark if the team clicks for any extended period during the season.

This is the most balanced offensive team since the days of Chucky. Thats a fact.

  3. Love and Warrick Dunn Says:

If throwing the ball away is part that %, I don’t mind that dragging down his numbers. He will always be a gunslinger, but, just a handful of thowaways instead of forcing a few balls will make a positive difference.

    Has 87 been back?

Will Mr. Jamis finally have a better qb rating then M.M. this year by the nfl?

  6. The Buc Realist Says:

Not to worried about the “more tds thrown”!!!! Its the preseason, they are working on very specific things!!!! No reason to show the really good cards yet!!!!!! I think we said this yesterday….OMG its a quick “Realist Repost”

There was a lot last night that looked really good!!!! The quick short slants!!!!!! The stretching the field of the long ball!!! The accuracy of the deep ball looked very good as well!!!!!! Lots to be excited about in Buc Land!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Go BUCS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

He does look more accurate, and has a Ton of weapons this year. We saw it against Jacksonville, as we moved the ball, almost at will!
LOL, if the coming Eclipse don’t wipe us all out Monday, we have one hell of a season to look forward to this year.

  8. BigHogHaynes Says:

He is the leader of this team for years to come …and he will continue to get better with each passing year! If our O-Line can do its job, he will do his!!! Famous came here playing like a third year starting QB!!

  9. Bird Says:

Yup. To many long drives and settling for attempted field goals (didn’t say settle for 3 cause our kickers are que terrible at this point )

Playoff teams get the TD in red zone more times than not!

  10. Oxycondoms Says:

That pass to Evans which Evans dropped was beautiful.

  11. The Buc Realist Says:

    @Bird

Brandon Allen, C.J. Beathard, David Fales, Jimmy Garoppolo, Taylor Heincke, Jacke Rudock, Cooper Rush, Joe Webb, Russell Wilson

These are the top Qb’s in the preseason throwing TD’s with a whopping 2 TD’s!!!!!!!! I do not think there is anything too worry about!!!!!!!! You want a TD from JW3?????? Watch Game 3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You will get to see 1 TD pass!!!!!!!

Its the preseason sheep!!!! No need to get riled up yet!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    GO Bucs!!!!!!!!!!

  12. Richbucsfan Says:

Stupid decisions will sink this offense no matter how loud Koetter screams.

  13. Defense Rules Says:

Jameis’ accuracy is definitely better through 2 preseason games (71% … wow), but tend to think it’s for several reasons besides just Jameis throwing the ball better. OLine has looked much better thus far in terms of pass protection. Receivers have been incredible in the short passing game (their stats are amazing if you exclude Martino & Huff). The running game is working which has opened up passing opportunities. Most importantly IMO (besides Jameis himself) is that Coach Koetter is keeping opposing defenses off-balance with his play-calling. Even though it’s ‘vanilla’ his mix of runs, short passes & intermediate passes, with the occasional deep pass thrown in, has been awesome while the 1st team has been in there.

  14. Easy Denman Says:

I think Jaboo taking the check downs instead of forcing balls is his biggest improvement. That deep pass Evans dropped for a TD was perfect

  15. Dr A Says:

Seems like he has tightened up/sped up his throwing motion also, which hopefully will help with reduce turn overs.

  16. NFLNut Says:

He’s been SUPER ACCURATE … 30-42 with the hail mary and 5 drops included! Dude is in reality 35-41 … that’s almost 90%!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  17. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

Preach NFL. They’ll always find something to gripe about and he’ll always figure a way to shut them up.

  18. BuccoDav Says:

Joe says… as far as the overthrows, Joe will just say he hasn’t seen Jameis overthrow DeSean Jackson yet.
:38 left in first quarter. Too deep in the end zone…
