O. J. Beginning To Kill It

June 15th, 2017

Turning the corner.

Bucs rookie tight end O.J. Howard is beginning to show folks why Tampa Bay coveted him so.

In the early going of underwear football, Howard really wasn’t sticking out. But in the past week he began to stick out more. When players are making plays and, more importantly, getting noticed, that’s a good thing.

When Joe caught up with Howard last week, he admitted it was much more mental than physical and that he was beginning to grasp the mental responsibilities to be an NFL tight end. And it showed in his practices.

Today, Howard seemed to have the best practice he’s had. It wasn’t perfect, far from it. Late in practice, he had a drop that was put in his breadbasket in red zone seven-on-seven drills, and on the very next play, he couldn’t come up with a pass that was thrown behind him.

Earlier, Howard very much got noticed and for all the right reasons.

One such play was red zone offense when Jameis threw over the middle a little high (Joe is certain on purpose) and Howard reached up and grabbed the ball with effortless ease where corners couldn’t defend the ball.

The play was little different from the national championship-winning touchdown pass Jameis threw to Kelvin Benjamin against Auburn. Only difference was Howard caught the pass more in stride.

Today, it was pretty clear from the plays Howard made, this is what the Bucs had envisioned from ASJackwagon. This dude, Howard, is going to be a weapon in due time.

    I will be thrilled if Howard catches 50 balls his rookie season, setting him up for 75-80 in year 2 when most stud TEs blossom.

    He will look even better when the pads come on and a little contact is allowed.

    That headline though.

    I don’t need this man to catch 60 balls or score 10 TDs. I just want him to block hard and catch the ball when it comes to him.

    @AfroBuc

    That’s hilarious.
