Jameis: Swagger Counts

June 13th, 2017

Jameis talks to Joe

America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, was talking today on the fields of One Buc Palace, following his earlier chat this week with a true American sports icon.

That was former NBA center Shaquille O’Neal, one of the most dominant and cocky athletes ever seen in a professional sport.

During a chat on O’Neal’s podcast, Jameis talked about how much he likes the swagger speedster wide receiver DeSean Jackson brings to the Buccaneers.

JoeBucsFan.com: Heard you talk the other day about the swagger of DeSean Jackson and how much you like that. Do you think that’s important to the team?

Jameis Winston: Absolutely. Absolutely. Because we play a game that’s so fierce and so competitive and, you know, a lot of [players] try to get tight. DeSean, what he brings to the game is just, he brings a pleasant mindset to this team. You know, he’s laid back. He’s going to make big plays. Like Coach Koetter [will] say, ‘We want people to make plays. That’s what we’re here for.’ … If you’re scared to make plays, you don’t need to be here. That’s from me; Coach Koetter didn’t say that (laughs).

Jameis later said the confident, comfortable-in-his-skin way Jackson carries himself is admirable and good for the Buccaneers. He added the Bucs need to emulate Jackson, always comfortable in every situation.

It’s interesting. Jameis, who is obsessed with crafting the right mindset for the Bucs, has latched on to Jackson in a big way.

Frankly, Joe hopes Jackson latches on to Jameis in similar fashion and the fierce drive of Jameis also spreads to the 30-year-old receiver.

  2. Stpetebucsfan Says:

Laid back “cool” swag can be just as compelling as the yelling fired up swag.

Swag is nothing more than today’s term for positive thinking. It’s a good thing as long as it is backed up…in fact when backed up it’s a great thing.

  3. Defense Rules Says:

Thank you StPete, I was just thinking exactly the same thing. The one Buc who embodied that more than any other to me was Lee Roy Selmon. Man, talk about ‘cool swag’ as you put it.

  4. JimmyJack Says:

Yeah the players got swag…….awww how nice. What about us fans though? How bout you freaking players give us some swag for once. I’m sick and tired of walking out of Ray Jay dejected. Start it up weeks 4-5(whatever) when we square off against the Giants and Patriots. Win those two games and give us fans some swag. Til then shut your pieholes about swag til you prove it on the field. Especially you D-Jax, you haven’t done squat in our uniform. You’ll get my praise if your capable of breaking a 80 yarder come Thursday Night. If not your dead to me.

Lee Roy spoke softly and carried a big mother%#^*&$ stick before it became a buzz word

we are on a 4 game home winning streak.

  8. alamba78 Says:

@JimmyJack, You sound like a bandwagoner. Real fans have swag even if the team loses bro. We bleed red and pewter. Players come and go, but the flag will always remain. Go Bucs!

  9. Pickgrin Says:

We need all the swagger we can get. Jameis is the King of Swagger – but not in a loud, obnoxious way like some players come off

  10. Casey Morgan Says:

JOE– Where are your afternoon camp updates? The Tampa Bay Times already started posting…

bucs need every A-hole with talent they can get to offset the soft mentally weak holdovers in gmc, martin, dotson and at times lvd. talent and driven winners win championships. choirboys embarrass themselves.

It comes with a heighten level of understanding of the scheme allowing you to thusly play fast and not be on the field over thinking. One can have all the swagg in the world,if he’s unsure in the field of play(much like D was the first half of last season)then swagg means nothing. ME mention this yesterday. 3rd year in the scheme,2nd year for the Defense. This team should appear to be alot faster next season.

  13. Bucsfanman Says:

Well said Nole. It’s confidence, not only in play but also in scheme.
Don’t “talk the talk” if you can’t “walk the walk!”

“‘We want people to make plays. That’s what we’re here for.’ … If you’re scared to make plays, you don’t need to be here.”

I think that just made Schiano punch a cute and fuzzy bunny.

Just like a good woman… She wants to feel your swag….not hear you talk about it….

The way Magic Johnson kept Kareem going, hope Tom see the same from Jameis to Djax
